Subject: REbooting Battlestar Galatica. Again.

All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again. Because literally, that’s what they’re doing, they’re rebooting Battlestar Galactica again.
Deadline reports that NBC Universal has tapped Mr. Robot’s Sam Esmail to headline a reboot of the beloved sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica for its newly unveiled streaming service. Which is called Peacock.
Yes, really.
Anyway, so far not much is known about the reboot, other than Esmail’s involvement and that it’s now happening. NBC Universal has a long history with the series—about the last remnants of humanity on the run from a sinister, overwhelmingly powerful race of robots called the Cylons—of course, having produced Glen A. Larson’s original in 1978, which ran for just one season, and then produced Ronald D. Moore’s beloved reboot, which aired on Syfy from 2004 to 2009.
But I guess, in this age of streaming wars, every company around looking to make their own platform is returning to past successes in the hopes of making it new again for streaming. In the sci-fi realm Disney has Star Wars, CBS of course has Star Trek, Apple now has Jason Momoa. And now, NBC has Battlestar again.
Peacock is set to launch in the U.S. in April 2020. We’ll bring you more on the Battlestar Galactica as we learn it.
..
.. what a time to be alive eh ?

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Maybe it will be good this time, and not an extended rape fetish, punctuated with creepy relationships that would be embarrassingly melodramatic for teens.

Umm...ok. ok hold my judgement. The remake was solid, and unlike voyager showed how desperate, how battle worn and simple things like the hull pockmarkered with nuke hits and atmosphere burns to the faded paint on the ships decks.

Can't they just make something new. The last Battlestar didn't really feel like Battlestar to me save for the names and the ship design (which I notice they were only faithful for on the human ships).
Formosa there were quite a lot of sex-threads running through the last Battlestar. Heck Baltar spends most of the season with a skimpy hot woman stuck in his head sorta kinda. Meanwhile there's quite a few sex-scenes very early on (ok quite a few might be one). I think it was a mature sexual tone that was very at odds with the original series.
Honestly I prefer fresh takes on themes rather than reboots. Because these days most of the reboots are a fresh take just slaved to a former name and set of concepts that can often feel hamfisted into the series; or it can feel like it should evolve one way, but has to aim toward a specific goal predefined by the original material.

If they just wanna redo the last couple seasons of SciFi's BSG, I'll be satisfied. That ending was...atrocious, and the slinking off into metaphysical questions instead of focusing on robots and spaceships really killed my enjoyment. The random shock stuff like killing main characters and brining them back with no real plan didn't help.

Bittorrent has always served as the solution to this particular problem. I suspect the big studios will eventually relearn this lesson.

I never made it all that far; but yeah there seems to be a fantasy/sci-fi fetish at present with making everyone REALLY grimedark. Nice up front then grimdark behind or in the background - it makes one wish for few more Miles O Brians in fantasy/scifi. Regular normal people who are not evil/nuts/bitter about the whole world.

May go too far one way bit it's better than the super happy Janeway's and so who barely are effected by the situation there in, and seem more intent on science than making it home.
The early pre seven of nine serris can get a tad annoying.

Some of the parts round Baltar, the criminal terrorist, and the whole government Vs military etc where pretty good.
The speech of pissed off Lara roslin threatening to use her own eye teeth to get the guy was memorable.

Same. Literally the only potential value this could have had was to do a modernised version of the concept that didn't devolve into vacuous pseudophilosophy and Judeo-Christian pandering. MooreBSG was decent when it was doing mil-sci-fi and political intrigues, it's a shame it couldn't just stick to that rather than sniffing its own farts so hard it vanished up its own backside. If this will be in that same version of the IP, no ta.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. Maybe because there isn't an actress alive that could do justice to Princess Ardala?

Stop giving them ideas!! Leave the 80-90s alone!!
I'd rather see Blaze Bob than Flash Gordon. Even if its a total rip-off at least it would be free to develop its own identity and themes rather than slave itself half way between and then awkwardly try to force things in like getting Brian Blessed shouting "Gordon's Alive" etc..
and Buck Rogers was cool!
