Vader looks awesome. The year-end shots a great, too. Some cool little vignettes in there. Nice to see Hellboy and the Skywalkers in the owner's box. Still love the Zoat!

Woohoo! I love year end shots! Thanks for taking the time. You really did accomplish a lot, that's a huge amount finished. No worries that you didn't do what you originally planned, there is always next year. It's good to go with what interests you.
Congratulations on a productive year! 200 miniatures is quite a feat. Looking forward to 2021. Nice to see that coliseum again, yer collection is massive!

I won't do individual responses this time, but thank you all for the nice comments !
So with 2020 finished it's time to start 2021. I won't set big resolutions, as my main one is still to get the backlog done or at least down to like 20 models. If I don't buy too much it should be doable by summer, but we'll see, best laid plans and such
Gonna start the year with Space Marines and Rohan. Assault Marines should paint up fast, gonna do them with the blue armour to set them apart from the other five (and they got MK 3 helmets, best helmets evah!!!). Sgt. got the helmet from the Indomitus captain and a little conversion in his right arm. He now sports a Sororitas power sword and a little guard over the hand, because it is a lot smaller than the normal one
Also built all the Rohan models from the starter box and am really excited to try different colors on the horses. Hope to get the first six riders and Theoden done til the end of the month. Also threw Aragorn in for good measure and too lead my warriors of the dead (I believe it makes allying them to Rohan easier, but am not well up on the rules so far).

Good start to the year, can't wait for the Rohirrim (I had to look up the denonym and learned that Rohan is a constitutional monarchy, which was news to me!). The horse lords are definitely my favorite of the Good armies, they just look so dang cool.

Really cool to see the year's haul all together in such an impressive setting. That arena is just incredible. Congrats mate and here's to more in 2021!
Heads on the assault marines look great. Rip and tear!

It’s been a while since I checked in but the toy arena sure turned out impressively! And that is a massive output for the year. You should be proud! I’m looking forward to seeing the Rohirrim get the love they deserve. I’ve always been drawn to them more than any other faction in the LotR and I’m reading the books to my kids right now and we just read about the Ride of the Rohirrim as they came to the aid of Gondor. Great stuff!

I defy anyone to read the following passage and resist the urge to go full Rohirrim in 2021.
Spoiler:
Stern now was Éomer's mood, and his mind clear again. He let blow the horns to rally all men to his banner that could come thither; for he thought to make a great shield-wall at the last, and stand, and fight there on foot till all fell, and do deeds of song on the fields of Pelennor, though no man should be left in the West to remember the last King of the Mark. So he rode to a green hillock and there set his banner, and the White Horse ran rippling in the wind.
Out of doubt, out of dark to the day's rising
I came singing in the sun, sword unsheathing.
To hope's end I rode and to heart's breaking:
Now for wrath, now for ruin and a red nightfall!
These staves he spoke, yet he laughed as he said them. For once more lust of battle was on him; and he was still unscathed, and he was young, and he was king: the lord of a fell people. And lo! even as he laughed at despair he looked out again on the black ships, and he lifted up his sword to defy them.
Sorry, just give me a minute... I've got something in my eye.
Crowe, exactly! Re-reading the books to my kids - out loud for the first time and doing all the voices with appropriate emotion - has given me another level of appreciation of Tolkien.

Reading them as a kid, I really got into the lore and action and I admit to skipping some of the longer poetry sections. Going back to it as an adult, I realize what a good writer Tolkein is. That's why the books have such lasting power, I think - plenty of good world builders who were not good writers, and vice versa (Lord Dunsany comes to mind). #TolkeinDidItBest

Rohan was always my favorite, hearing Howard Shores theme for the first time in 2002 (god, where has the time gone?) was amazing.

Thanks tzurk! Backlog clearing worked quite well in 2020 and I'm happy to get to a slower pace in 2021.

Big fan of the MKIII helms too, they really fit the space knight aesthetic when I think of space marines.
Thanks Tyranid Horde! The fight against grey is eternal, but I am slowly winning.

Thanks The Riddle of Steel and good to see you back! It'll be a bit more until I can make a soft start with the kids and The Hobbit, but I am already excited to read Tolkien to them and hope yours enjoy the stories!

I really have to read the books again, last time I read them was parallel to the movie releases. Any recommendation on a good hardcover edition that doesn't break the bank? Was eyeing Folio Society, but their price plus postage to Germany was a little rich for my blood.
In other news, very little hobbying has been done. We are in the process of reorganizing, redecorating and refurnituring our ground floor. We have now prepared everything for the new furniture (which hopefully arrives as planned next Friday), but motivation to paint was low in the evenings.
So these Intercessors only took a few hours, but spaced over a lot of days. But now they are done and I'm happy with them. The color really works with gold instead of silver trims as well. Looking at the pictures the gold is a little rough on shoulderpads and helmets, but good enough for gaming, which always is my goal.
I like how the Sgt. turned out. The black shield is a nice eyecatcher amidst the blue and the open helmet is really cool.
Didn't have the motivation to shave off the belt helmet, so I driled some holes and it is now the helmet of his first Sgt. who fell over 50 years ago, but he it is carrying to remember to be always vigilant.

It always amazes me how a simple pad/headswap to mk3's changes the entire look of an intercessor. (throw in a mk3 backpack and you can really sell the look)
is that contrast over metallics I see? not really hot on contrast and have mixed feelings about it (comes of being in this game for too many years) but this is one of the things were i think it has real application potential.

Your assault intercessors look brilliant! The gold and blue/green combo works really nicely with the added trim of the MKIII helms and I like the little nod to a fallen marine with the Sgt.
Just join in on the Tolkien discussion, I've just finished the audio book version of the Two Towers (unabridged) having never read it before. Wonderful storytelling and world building.
Great looking unit Viterbi, the mk3 helms make them look a bit more brutal than the regular helms. Sarge turned out really good too, nice job on the eyes!

Models are looking great , plus the extra bludgeoning weapon on his belt (former sgt's helmet) is very fitting.
