Nice to see you had a productive couple days. Looks like the Dread came together real fast!

Than have fun with the box and the Impulsor!

If 90% can be painted with Contrast paints, minis come together real fast

theCrowe wrote:Contemptible dread looks like a real tankbuster with that loadout. Assuming that's a melta weapon. Again, I have two dreads and they're both solid metal soooo I prob shouldn't assume anything.

Those hobbit bounders though, great little minis. Enjoy them, they won't take long to paint at all either.

I'm not sure, if it is some kind of Melta weapon, but it looked like it could use some heat stress, so I went with it

Yeah, Hobbits and Contrast are a match made in heaven. Once I get the little buggers primed it shouldn't take too long, to get them ready for the table.

inmygravenimage wrote:Like the dread, love the tank (especially the interior), but it's the SW that makes my heart sing (or possibly vvwing!) Is that the Legion Luke? Eyes look great, but I would say just go for it with the OSL - realism isn't necessarily a good thing lol.

Thanks Graven! Yeah, it is Legion Luke, the Operative expansion (whatever that means). I'm not sure what I did with the power fist either, I believe there is a bolter thingy in there, but I play only with two friends 40k (the third of our round only plays Mordheim atm) and we are not that big on WYSIWYG. I try to do it, but with stuff like this it doesn't matter to us.

Yorkright wrote: Tank looks fab my man! The interior is great and the dirt on the floor looks realistic. Dreads load out of multimelta makes it a great tank buster, not sure what you did with the powerclaw hand but a melta or flamer are both good options and he looks great too.

Those hobbits are some small figs, looking forward to how they turn out. Skywalker turned out good too, a little osl might be the way to go, since the model is mostly black it should be easy to fix if you dont like it.

Thanks Yorkright! Hobbits are real small, it's fun to put them next to other stuff. The plastic fellowship ones are even smaller than there metal brethren, even if only by a small margin.

amazingturtles wrote:They're some tiny little hobbitseses!

It's always neat seeing tank interiors painted up.

With nasty clubs and already itching to wallop some Orcs and Ghouls over the head with them

gobert wrote:I had no idea the impulsor was a convertible! Or is it a spider if it has no roof at all? Looks good either way, the dirt on the back looks really good, I like the idea of marines bringing snow with them.

Mighty impressive how quickly you got the dread painted, and he looks good for it too!

Good job on Luke! Black is one of those colours that’s hard to highlight and still read as black but you’ve managed that I feel. For me though his saner is a bit dull, a bit of OSL would be cool, but if not a brighter, almost white green would be goog imho

Thanks gobert! I'm not that well versed on cars, I didn't even know that something like a spider class exists

theCrowe wrote:As someone who works in the compliance team of an insurance company I have to say that Happy Recompliance Day banner is a hoot.

As Obi Wan once said, Skywalker looks good, from a certain point of view. Har har, jokes, he looks great. And I think that old Ben might has been talking about someone else anyway.

But I agree that green on the light saber could benefit from a harsh highlight.

Can't take credit for the banner, it's a design by the Warhammer Community team they did for 4th of July last year or before that.

youwashock wrote:Productivity burst! The tank and Dread look good. Luke is rad. Just figure this is from before he gets shot in hand and has to cover up the gubbins. I will echo the suggestion to punch up the saber.

Thanks youwashock!

With everyone (or at least most ) suggesting I try the OSL and a bright highlight on the lightsaber, here it is:

Not 100% happy and not sure, if the light would fall that way, but it makes the mini look more interesting, so thanks for suggesting I try it!

Mostly, on my phone.

I really like it! I would suggest two things:
1) a white "core" to the lightsaber
2) a paler, lime green edge colour as well eg Vallejo Livery Green

I think the crow and graven are right, darker surroundings and a brighter highlight and you’ll have a pretty good stab at OSL

Hey mate, OSL looking good! I can imagine lightsabers are a tricky beast as there's no real way that I can think of to emulate the core-of-white-surrounded-by-colour effect from the films. I do think that a lime green would look good on the saber if not the glow itself.

The Crimson Fists dread and Impulsor are also aces! The contrast blue comes up really nicely. Great work - thanks for sharing

Thanks you two, I tried to get a more glowy lightsabre.

Thanks youwashock! Already eyed the Vader mini, but don't want to paint so much black... again

Thanks tzurk! And the Space Marines are actually my own order, the Emperor's Fangs. A loyal Alpha Legion Successor... or so they say

Ok, this is as good as Luke will ever get (corrected the OSL on the hands and gave him the black right hand too). Mixed a brighter green and used some Hexwraith flame and tried a white core. Straight, fine lines are not my forte. But would call him done now, base is ready to and will take some glamour shots before the year ends for the challenge. Maybe I will get Vader, now that I think about it, half a month still left

Thanks aku-chan!

Finally christmas vacation has arrived and with it a small update, didn't get to posting the last few days. Looking at my numbers for 2020 I realized that I could reach 200 painted infantry sized minis (vehicles, dreads and terrain is counted separately), if only I could find some easy minis. Enter the warriors of the dead from the LotR set. They were so easy to paint up, it seems like cheating Here are the first 10 of 20:

I also managed to get the last Hobbits for Mordheim (sounds like a campaign slogan) painted up and have now all options finished and am eagerly awaiting to game with my friends (hopefully not to far off in 2021). The horse was good practice for my Rohan minis, it's just one coat of Goregrunta-Fur without any additions.

Number 199 for this year is the first Marvel Crisis Protocol mini, Iron Man. Not happy with his sculpt, the details I saw on the painting guide were much stronger than on my fig. Didn't have the feeling I made a priming mistake. Have to see, how the other minis will paint up. Nothing fancy on him, but Contrast made painting the metallic red real easy.

And last, but not least, some terrain. The console (terminal?) was standing around for nearly a year, primed and ready for more paint. So I finally got around to it when my wife was on a skype call with friends on Sunday. Quite happy with it, althoug the print for the screen needed to be smaller than I thought and is probably not recognizable at all. It is actually the security cam footage you see when you play Duke Nukem 3D. May try that again on a bigger screen sometime.

I'm also in the process of "repainting" some azyrite ruins into terrain that is more suitable for Middle-Earth. Left is the original and right after a new drybrush. Looks more Gondorian now.

The ruins of the Palace of Thorns

Very strange. I thought I had already replied to say how much I like your Army of the Dead, but I guess I must have failed to press "submit".

They are really nice. I think I can just about tell that there was some drybrushing, but mostly it looks painted on?

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Thanks Fifty! And somewhere in Hyperspace the first post still floats around And actually you are right about the drybrushing. Those ghosts are just Grey Seer spray, Coelia Greenshade wash and Celestra Grey drybrush. The only conventially painted part ist the base rim

Thanks Sherrypie! There should be some monitors on the terrain I have still in box so I keep that in mind.

Hope you are all having a great Christmas despite the current circumstances!

We have a very reduced Christmas days program, which gave me the chance for a quick paintjob on the dark lord of the Sith himself: Darth Vader (thanks again to youwashock [and I belive gobert too] for suggesting I should paint him up). He is #200 of the infantry sized minis this year (150 was the count last year).
Again too much black for my taste and I wish I could have gotten the helmet a bit smoother, but overall very happy especially the light red in his eyes.
Now to get some more pics of him and Luke for the painting comp, just need to find some fitting terrain.

Thanks JoshInJapan! Didn't you do some OSL with your ghosts some weeks back with the base? I thought that was very nice. I just drybrushed some red on Vader where the light might fall. Not brave enough yet to try it on minis I actually game with

I'm closing the painting year a few days early this year, but with the second 10 ghosts from the LotR box done it was a good time to finish. 210 infantry sized minis, two tanks, one dread, lots of terrain and with a lot more variety than last year. I'm very happy and just gonna throw some pics at you. Not included are the three ogres I painted beginning of the year (sold them with the rest of the buggers) and the three Hellboy monsters I painted up for Mordheim, they reside at my friend's house so they're always handy for our campaign.
Funnily enough I have neglected most of my painting goals I set out at the beginning of the year (finishing my Kharadron Overlords, my Stormcast and starting my Adeptucs Mechanicus), but got stuff done. I'm especially happy about the Hobbit warband for Mordheim that started spontaneously and is now completely finished with all options available.
