Wouldn't be shocked if it's GW pulling back on the number of copies allocated at the start, specifically to avoid people frontloading for box splits.

What would they care? They're selling the stock either way.

And one independent stockist has said that everything in her area has been shrunk to 45 copies. If the store ordered more, 45 is all they'll get.

Dang. Just had an email from Dark Sphere saying they've not been able to order as many copies as they hoped and I've missed out.

I should hope so, if supplies are actually pretty limited.

Haha all the people at the start of this thread furiously claiming it would never sell out and the stock would be plentiful how foolish they look now. GW have really **** the bed on this one. What an absolute travesty brand new edition and most people and stores even cant get the starter set. What an absolute joke. So anti consumer just a pure money grab. Of course GW could have produced more of these sets they simply have decided it's not worth it at the discount they are offering.

This will easily net them millions in profit but I hope the long term Ill will this generates finally has an impact and they stop these disgraceful anti consumer practices

Yea nothing like a pandemic going on coupled with really popular models in a wildly inexpensive box. Maybe GW should have charged $300. Would that make people feel better?

Go look up Dicehead on Google Maps. Go look at their actual location.

Then come back and continue this conversation like a grown-up, because there is no way, shape, or form that it is acceptable that they were realistically expecting to get $30,000 US dollars worth of product for the launch day. There is physically no way, shape, or form that a shop in Memphis Tennessee was going to sell that much physically--even if we weren't in the middle of the COVID19 nonsense.

I got a further email from DarkSphere to say they're expecting another wave sometime in August, and that I am on a list to be able to order 1 of those boxes. So I assume they're making some more?

Ah, yes. I forgot my script. It's the evil greedy company. Not the tiny stores running huge eBay operations undercutting FLGS stores who are unable to sell at a discount.

One of my local stores that orders direct from GW said yesterday that they were only being allocated 45 max and not to take more pre-orders.

30 minutes ago, they were informed by GW that now they were getting more than that.

If there aren't enough, they'll be making more. It sounds like some stores have already got indications that there'll be a second wave coming a few weeks later.

manufacturing works, GW doesn't produce *anything* continuously for 3 years, even the kits that aren't limited are produced in batch runs over a relatively short period of time and then rotated out to a different product. This is why periodically a box of intercessors or hellblasters or whatever will be seemingly sold out everywhere from time to time. GW pumps out say 100,000 boxes of those Sisters of Battle and might not produce another box for another 2-3 years before they get back to them.

And same can't be done with this box...why?

You seriously trying to claim gw has lost all means to produce box more regardless of whether they want it or not? Don"t you realize how silly that sounds?

Either they literally cannot produce more no matter what or they have limited production run to x. In first case # is matter of production capacity. How much they managed to produce before they lost cabability to produce more. Second case it's matter of gw limiting numbers on how much they want to sell discount box.

Edit: and seems gw is doing second print run. So again as i said. Gw decision, not production capability. They can keep doing more copies as long as demand is there and will is there for gw.

Eeh...this...is...not...starter...set. this was said from get go by gw to be limited launch set. Actual starter set(likely worse discount) comes later.

Again. This is not a starter set.

Its starring the new edition contains the rulebook and has two push fit brand new armies. It's some sort of set and anyone remotely Invested in 40k is looking to buy a copy. I'm going to enjoy seeing the 'starter set' that comes after it. All of GW rhetoric on the community website points to this selling out instantly. They are clearly already managing expectations. Because they know what they are doing is predatory and malicious.

That's only 150 boxes. And the GW North America Headquarters is in Memphis. It might be pretty popular around there. I don't have a problem thinking they could move that much product.

Heh, I didn't look I just noticed his comment about Memphis. Im in Nashville myself, and between the shops here I don't think it would be a problem to move large amounts of product.

Trade accounts get a discounted price for their orders. It's somewhere in the realm of 40-50% off the products.
So no. It isn't 150 boxes.

And even then, 150 boxes is not even remotely acceptable for launch weekend for a shop that is closed to foot traffic.

That's my bad. I don't know why I wrote Memphis.

Still does not change the fact that this much product is not even remotely appropriate for a single shop to be allocated. GW shops themselves will maybe get 15-20 and any preorders that are made via them are allocated from the webstore stock.

I am really curious how long copies are going to stay up on GW.

1) How the hell do you know what's an appropriate amount for this shop? Or for any other that you're not running?
What's that? You're going to complain that they sell on EBay etc? So what. Since the sun rose on this century it's been hammered home that if your in retail, you have to embrace on-line sales options. But then people like you bitch when that lesson is applied.

2) Well according to their FB page they're open right now, Noon-7pm Tue-Thur/Sat & Noon-9pm Fri. Just how sure are you that they aren't open to foot traffic?

So if this place thought they could move $30k worth of product? More power to them & Good Luck.

Exactly.

Another aspect to consider is that even now not all LGS are open everywhere. I'm still waiting to hear back from mine.

Would I like to give my local shop money? Sure.
Can I? I don't know yet.

That's why I was banking on an online shop to help. And I'm sure I'm not the only one in that boat.

GW has a clear incentive to take care of FLGS's even at the expense of online stores because if all the brick and mortars close down a lot of people don't have a place to play, at which point they stop buying models entirely. So yes, they are right from both a capitalism and a human decency perspective to limit the product online stores can sell.
