I get that some people can only suspend so much disbelief, but let's face it: making fun of Saturnine armor has turned into quite a bit of fun.
That said, N&R probably isn't the best place for it, anymore.

Hi, although I introduced myself a while ago, I don't usually write much, so hello everyone from Spain.
I wanted to ask if there are any rumors about the Custodes Army Box. It's possible they'll preview it in the next few days.
Previous Army Boxes included a transport, a Dreadnought or similar, and some troop or specialized units.
Except for a Guardian Spear, we haven't seen anything, and that leads to rumors about possibly revamping the Custodes Guard, and then including a Telemon-type Dreadnought and a transport, which isn't clear.
Besides Valrak, have you heard any rumors?
Another thing is the price. Whatever the Army Box contains, if GW releases a "Tomb World" price, I might not get into it...

For me, its enough to know that it is at least coming. The real black comedy there would have been someone who picked up the last militia list (which was only released in 2023), has spent the last two years lovingly converting some Heresy-era planetary defence force, only for that army to be wiped clean by the HH3 release. So for those people at least, I am glad they have shown the PDF lists on the road map.

Dammit, now I have an idea of using Necromunda Enforcers and GSC to convert up a new army.... being able to use Ridgerunners and Venators, cargo haulers, Goliaths and bikers is super tempting.....

Seems like another well thought out pdf, with some care given to cover the 3.0 bugbears (detachments, tactical statuses, scoring...) and the integration of GSC and Enforcer assets is a nice touch.

The Irregulars rule is interesting, with the nice benefit of still being able to score when you (pretty much inevitably) get hit with a Status but also losing the bonus rally attempt when your routed unit hits a board edge. Not sure if that’s a net gain or loss yet.

Heh, little oopsie that might or might not be important: the militia list can take infinite detachments; they mostly have Officer of the Line (3) which yeah is a lot but they also have an auxiliary detachment with a command slot. So each officer can bring three buddies who can bring a further nine auxiliary detachments… and there’s no bottom to that pyramid.
Though with levies at 4ppm you might need them…
But still, unlimited overseers actually kinda kills one of the main drawbacks of the list. Hmmm…
Oh and you also end up with ever so many medic-only support slots but who cares.

I looked at the Ogryn list and thought: You could use your WHF/ AoS Ogre kingdoms army to play that game, neat!
Honestly, these militia PDFs might be the best thing to come out from GWs rules department these days. There's so much inspiring stuff in there instead of: Buy and build two of each of our boxes and build them exactly as the manual tells you.

It’s the modern day IA:13. The greatest rulebook ever made for 40K EVER.
So many options? It’s probably best to fix your militia concept in your head first, then look at how you might realise that.

At second glance, it doesn't look like a "normal" list will be much better than in 2.0 but there are now additional deranged WAAC options besides just oops all rough riders and oops all ogryns (which both still exist but take a hit as neither can benefit from the +1 armour save Provenance) The Ash Wastes/GSC stuff seems incredibly pushed in particular, Quads are 20 pts + special weapon, can be spammed in solo units thanks to casual infinite slots (rofl at your opponent as they dedicate any Legion unit to kill one 30 pt Quad) and have access to weapons for all 4 tactical statuses.

Nice to see that Knight armies have at least a single Provenance for their Yeomanry Mesnie. In an allied detachment in other armies you need Special Assignment to get a second, but fortunately command troops have Officer of the Line (3) to get some auxiliary detachments, too.

I like the idea of the GSC stuff being incorporated. I do question in general though how cheap and devastatingly powerfull the mining stuff is in comparison. Also Artillery is still not fixed. No breaching 6+ on an earthshaker and 3 " battlecannon are not acceptable. Especially in a world were mining "weaponry" is just flat out better.

But lets be honest, the turnaround in HH3 through spammed GSC equipment whilest artillery still is wet noodle? But he we got now LD spread into 4 stats.

It's also all incredibly short range and not great at dealing with armor. The mining lasers look scary until you compare them to a dude with a meltagun, who outranges them, or just a normal marine shrugging it off on a 3+. Seismics are better with breaching, and probably have a place for hunting terminators, but you still need to survive getting within template range against targets whose bolters outrange your combined move + template.

Necromunda & GSC stuff is pushed for sure, but I don't think the artillery (of all size classes) is half bad either. And they are handing out status inflicting guns like candy here. The question is will your basic dudes hang around long enough to score any points. What's funny in a bad way are tanks and the provenances that let you take gakkier but not discounted versions of Astartes or Mechanicum tanks, in an edition where you can trivially just ally in the proper ones.

To be fair, this is a Hobbyist Dream army, and I’m sure there’ll be plenty wanting to paint proper rusty, dinged up fourth-hand battle tanks for their plucky, smelly ne’er do wells.

Can't use the transports of allies though. And the SA tanks in the list are a bit cheaper.

They're referring specifically to Arms of the Omnissiah (Krios, Triaros) and Survivors of the Dark Age (Rhino, Termite, Land Raider Carriers) that just let you take things from other lists with no price adjustment. Spot on with the transport thing, however.

Full confession, I had already seen this PDF elsewhere before I came in here (so your link showed as yellow), which made me flinch as your text looked like the same yellow the mods use when they issue warning posts.
I was like "wait, when did that poster become a mod??"
Anyway, surprisingly good PDF. I feel like there's an enthusiast on the design team who put some attention into this one. There's more flexibility here than in the actual libers, in several aspects.
