Pretty great news. I'm not sure if his style will translate to a broad variety of projects, but I think his vision for what makes comics fun will result in films I enjoy more than Snyder's style.

I agree with this. At the very least, IF Warner Brothers actually give him the freedom to control the projects (and that has traditionally been a very big if), we should get projects that have more cohesion. Not just project to project but even internally with themselves. Some of DCs offerings... oof. Directionless could be a way to describe them.

Hopefully this means we get a Blue Beetle project ::fingers crossed:: I would want a Ted Cord but I would be happy for a Jamie Reyes.

You mean the film that wrapped back in July?

Buzz around that one seems to be good also.

If it survives the 2 billion write off purge and actually releases. We have seen no promotion for it yet. Which doesn't bode well. Half of all movies budgets typically boil down to promotional materials. If they want to write it off don't spend any more promoting it.

To be fair, Blue Beetle just wrapped in July, and we're 10 months from its scheduled release date. They shouldn't be promoting it yet, especially with multiple DC films in front of it.

Also, the difference between BB and Batgirl is that BB had already become a theatrical film with a corresponding budget increase. The director stated that he was assured by the studio that BB is safe. Yes, anything can happen, but doesn't mean it's reasonable to expect everything in their pipeline is going to be axed.

They promoted the film from HBO Max to theatrical release.

And there's no rush in promoting a film this far out.

Watched it, enjoyed it.

Wish Doctor Fate would keep his dang helmet on. Took that thing off to talk every chance he could get. Doesn’t even get the benefit of a nano mask, he’s physically pulling that thing off and cradling it every other scene. And yeah, he definitely comes across as a low imagination Doctor Strange. Also he sees the future.

Hawkman is super cool. He Does get a nano helmet, but he leaves it on. Seeing his mouth was apparently enough. And yeah, him vs Adam is truly a battle of massive egos.

Atom Smasher comic relief. He was still quite useful. Cyclone is just kind of there. Almost useless. But quite pretty.

Really wish they gave Adam hair. Something so it wasn’t just The Rock in a morphsuit.

Pretty much agree - except for Atom being quite useful.

The JSA vs Adam plot was fairly weak nonsense. As was Superman showing up in the credits scene.

Decent action sequences, The JSA looked good. And my predictions were correct: I don't care about Adam & the JSA were indeed disappointing. Overall, a C-.

He got a couple big hits in on Adam still, like his blows seemed the most effective of the team when he got one in, and several good moments where he caught debris or shielded others. Obviously he was no match for Adam, but none of them were. He was still significantly better than Cyclone, who I don’t know why she even bothered to get out of the jet. Her sole contribution I recall off hand is providing medical aid to someone in the jets med bay between fight scenes.

She did that extended scene of throwing all the poles into the ground around Adam while Adam just stared at her in slow motion.

There is implied good stuff with Hawkman. Like... Nth Metal is supposed to be 1) incredibly durable (like vibranium but without any explanation for how it is forged) and 2) it's disruptive to magic. So Hawkmans Mace is actually a really good weapon against beings of magic (like Adam) and his armor sheilds him a bit (but not wholly) against the living lightning, Zatana or Fates magic, in a fight with Wonder Womans magical artifacts, It's more difficult for magic users to read Hawkmans mind or mentally control him because of his nth metal helmet, etc etc...

The issues with Hawkman in the movie isn't the look at the abilities. It's the character. He's a moron with simplistic convictions that don't hold up under even the lightest scrutiny.

There's two problems here.
Basically, the full helmet is at odds with Hollywood actors, who are in movies to be seen. Brosnan's contract most likely hammered the helmet down.

Fate is... complex as a character. For a side character in someone else's movie, explaining the whole Lord of Order and everything that entails plus possessing a host (which is most of his character), is a recipe for just bogging things straight down. Especially in a movie that doesn't seem to want moral complexity, even if general film audiences were willing to sit through a spiel about Order vs Chaos and sort-of-protagonist character that's a walking illustration of the problems with too much Order. And I'd suggest they aren't and this wasn't a good place for it anyway.

Dr. Fate is really better as a semi-antagonistic mentor figure in another spellcaster's movie.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Helmets and actors is why the MCU is full of Mighty Morphin' Nano-Helmets, never worse than the final fight between T'Challa and Killmonger in BP, where they'd fight and then lose their helmets to deliver a line of dialogue between punches. Only Captain America keeps his on (most of the time), so good on Chris Evans.

I appreciated Hawkman leaving his on a lot of the time, but with Dr. Fate is was very annoying.

I super love how they did Iron Man’s where he leaves the helmet on, and then show his face inside of it with the visible HUD. Doesn’t really work for stuff like Fate. They really just need actors who are willing to put ego aside and be willing to be a voice half the time.

It's why I respect Karl Urban so much for his portrayal of Dredd in his movie and why its criminal that we'll likely never get another Dredd movie with him.

I get why actors want face time, but damn if it isn't jarring when they take off their masks/helmets every chance they get.

And as AduroT, pointed out, what they did with Iron Man was a wonderful way of getting past that problem. We're going to see it again with Riri Williams in BP2, but I have to wonder how long until she gets her super-duper folding helmet (nano-helmet is a few movies away, surely!).

Unfortunately he eventually got vanishing helmets, and then even fething Spider-Man got a helmet/mask like that.
