So... why would I ever choose the latter?
Maybe it is for the extra attacks mentioned in Daemons focus?
Nah, that’s listed on the weapon’s profile, and is missing from the Misercordia. Only use I can think of is in case someone is able to force your units to duff themselves up.
Possible it's just bug and extra attack supposed to be.
I mean T3 custodians? 1 mistake there, another possible.

Dg didn't have fnp in 9e to nick anyway.
And custodian one is vs mw's which isn't such game slower army wide as fnp vs everything is in 40k.

Yea it is weird that they just wouldn't make it an extra attacks weapon on this sheet. Laziness, I guess? Yea not a terrible thing if it makes people think twice about too many mortal wounds -- only if it doesn't screw psyker armies. With the spells as they are it still possible to be useful into Custodes, but we'll see. I think the big part is Custodes tanks eating railguns and harpoons and laughing. Point costs will be interesting.

That is a bit of an assumption actually. Now that vexilus praetors will likely be attached to a unit it would not surprise me at all if GW decided to consolidate the Allarus Praetor into being a model/wargear option that is now just part of an Allarus unit itself as opposed to a separate unit.

Not entirely.
If you take any axes, you're wasting your time attacking GEQ, gaunts & etc with them. Better off with the misericordia. 5 attacks hitting on 2+ with sustained hits stance will do a better job than 4 attacks on 3+ (wounding on 2 rather than 3 isn't enough of a difference, and the knife has a higher AP anyway, making that something of a wash)
It still isn't great, but this boat has definitely sailed.

Custodian terminator weapon profiles are a bit weird - quickly plugging them in vs common profiles previewed so far the axe is generally universally worse than the spear on Allarus Terminators (T8 targets seems to be about the only thing it stands out against, and even then it's not ahead by much).
I guess other units won't have slayer of tyrants built in so maybe Wardens might find a useful home for the axes.
From Golden Light looks great, Vexilla's not so much.

That OC might be crucial. Golden Light - jumping on an objective the opponent doesn't yet control on T1 sounds fun.
Something I've seen mentioned but not confirmed - there's a rumor that these datasheet abilities can't be used more than once per turn. So no jumping multiple units of Allarus or dumping out 3 land raiders. Would be interesting, if true.

Vexallia seems rather important to me. Its a low model count army. Without a way to get a respectable OC (which functions on a per-model basis), you can have enemies steal objectives without actually engaging your melee monsters.

Maybe on the not-terminator units where you can (hopefully) dual wield banner and weapon - especially Custodian Guard which presumably are battleline so have a higher base OC value. On terminators though, giving up a gun and melee weapon is too much for me to bear.

So, it's totally advantageous for the harpoon to proc on a Custodes tank. I imagine we'll probably see stuff like Haywire be anti-vehicle 3+ or 4+ ( Tau EMP was 4+ ).
Psykers don't rely on mortal wounds as much, but they're still important. I imagine Custodes will go up in points a fair bit.
The existence of the 4+++ might make it so people thinking it's a good idea to spam Onslaught / Assault Cannons with Oath would perhaps think twice. Or it could bust everyone's balls.

If the Vexilla isn't its own choice, then ok fine. But if it is, it just seems odd, as they could give the misericordia a better profile for the guy who only has that and put it as [Extra Attacks 2] or whatever for other Custodes.

Too be fair the harpoon is a weapon on a what I guess will be a 600 point Knight, so extra rules there I can imagine to represent the lethality. Plus it's a single shot on a very expensive knight.
Honestly wish GW would reveal point costs with these units. Would give us a better idea of how things scale compared to each other.

I think the issue with Devastating Wounds is that sure its only on 6s, but if you are only wounding on 4s or 5s that's a lot of the attacks that are actually successful.
But as you say - we really need the not-indexes with points to start doing some basic comparisons and what the new-normal looks like.

There are some theoretical cases. T8 and lightly armored (5+, maybe 4+) with 3, 5-7 or 9 wounds (and upwards, but basically anything not divisible by 2 unless its also a multiple of 3). I think that would math out to better.
T4 and 3 wounds isn't terrible, if, again, its lightly armored.
Dark eldar floaty 'dreads,' their people movers, or ork trukks, perhaps. Hurrah?
The fact that spears can switch over to lethal hits (autowound, with better AP) on a whim makes it worse. With 5 attacks per model, it'll proc often enough that it matters.
Sgt. Cortez wrote:Wouldn't surprise me to see a stratagem allowing an additional attack with your misericordias at the end of the fight phase, or something along these lines.
1 CP brings back a Custodian at full wounds. In your command phase, so its completely free to act normally.
3-6 guys poking with their little 1 Damage knife doesn't even vaguely compare.

Finally Orks next. I'm not even an Ork player, but leaving their preview so late seems a bit wrong to me.
So now the race to who is going to be last is between Dark Eldar and Genestealer Cults. My money is going to be on Dark Eldar being last, as GW seem to forget that they are a playable faction, and not just a plot device to use in animated shows.

Harlequins and Grey Knights haven't been shown either. Grey Knights are too different from regular Marines to have the same army bonus/detachment, so I'm sure they'll get their own article, and they didn't specify that Harlies would be in with Craftworlds like they are now. Also, Tsons also haven't been shown yet, have they?

The harlequins weren't shown as a separate faction in the warhammer fest powerpoint, and the aeldari are still called that rather than craftworlds.
So my guess is that the harlequins will get a detachment of just harlequins, and they will have the harlequin rule as a detachment rule. Strands of fate being the standard eldar rule.
I'd prefer to be wrong, given the imperium got ANOTHER separate faction (agents of the imperium...) but I doubt it.
