How do!

So here’s a wee thread. A wee thread for, as the title suggests, you to show off your most precious of preciousness. You’re Holy of Holies. What you consider the crown jewel in your wargaming collection.

Naturally all mine will be GW related because that’s just how I roll. But don’t feel this is a GW only thread.

Show it off. Tell us why it is your most treasured treasure.

I’ll go first. And it’s my complete set of Rogue Trader era books. All came to me from other homes, other than the Realm of Chaos Books, which are the WHW reprints.

These are so special to me, the root of where it all began, from a time shortly before I properly got stuck in. Whilst some volumes need to be handled with a bit of care, for knocking on 35 years old, the spines are in surprisingly good condition!

It’s hard to choose just one thing. I love all my FFG 40k books, for example, but have only bought second copies *just in case* for my 3rd edition Necrons codex, my WEG Star Wars RPG and Sourcebook, and my AT-43 Red Blok army book.

I have two copies of the RT rulebook and a copy of each of the Realms of Chaos Books, all original printings

a copy of The Gothic & the Eldritch, which wasn't super-rare at the time but is expensive as hell now

a free signed copy of the Infinity RPG, because I fixed the laptop of the guy who wrote it (we're friends)

The £400 Borg Cube collector's edition of Star Trek Adventures

A full 10-man squad of the "parade pose" cadians, from when I worked at GW

(also I have those same ghostbusters toys Grotsnik! I love the Egon one)

I'll grab some pics at some point but things are a bit hectic here at the moment

My Realms of Chaos books (both original editions) are buried away for their safety, so I'll have to forgo photos at this time. Once I dig them out, though, I may find myself running a little path to glory campaign for myself.

Among the rarest items in my miniatures collection is my small Melnibonean army:

I picked most of these up after GW had lost the license, but still had the molds. One used to be able to custom order any model as long as you had the serial number. I had to live of ramen noodles for a while, but I regret nothing.

The pride of my humble 40K collection is a Caestus Assault Ram.

I was on hiatus from wargaming when it was in production, so missed out on one, but when I returned to the hobby, I just knew I'd have to get one.. six months of scouring ebay and I got a reasonably built unpainted model from overseas. Still not sure how I want to tackle finishing it off, do I try to completely disassemble/reassemble it using cyanoacrylate glue remover, or should I just accept a slightly subpar build, save what can be saved with putty etc and paint it as it is..

Still holding out hope that we might see a plastic version returning one day.. I feel the Caestus Ram is the "missing link" in the Space Marine flyer range, it looks like it's designed by the same entity that created the iconic Drop Pods

He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. Nice! I don't really have a use for this model, or any place to keep it, but I sure would like to have one all the same.

That one has definitely become a bit of a hen's teeth-type item these days, I've tried for a while to get it and it's very rare.

This is a great idea for a thread!

A few of my treasures

My first ever WD. Barely in one piece now as it has been read so many times over the years, especially the Eldar bits! I need some sort of stasis technology to store it.

I don't keep hold of every rule and codex/army book I have owned, but just the ones that were special to me for one reason or another. Got my favourite version of WHFB here (6th) and favourite army book (O&Gs, although Vampire Counts and Wood Elves are about somewhere). Then my favourite 40k codex, which was Chaos 4th edition.
The Flames of War Festung Europa book, my favourite book from when I think that game was in it's 'golden zone' (I think every game has this, but for me it was early 2nd edition FoW which was just excellent, and was probably helped as my gaming club embraced it wholesale).
Rogue Trader book, this is one I picked up more recently after an original hard-back version went AWOL years ago - a shame as think that's probably would be worth a bit now!

Complete Space Marine 2nd edition boxset, the first wargame I really got into. Included the Space Marines battle book as that one is pretty rare by all accounts these days!

Some Boxtree-published 40k books. Everyone really used to take the piss out of these for some years after they became 'unfashionable' (probably early 90s onwards) and you had some really weird, borderline-mental stuff like Grimm the Squat being edited out of a re-published version. But looking back now I don't think it's possible to overstate how important these books were for helping to set the stage for the 40k universe, and they actually still read pretty well today (and you can actually get them again now I believe from print on demand, now that the perturbing anti-Watson fatwah seems to have disappated)
Days of Ascension might seem an odd choice as it's fairly new, but I absolutely love this book. I liked Adrian Tchaikovsky's other books anyway (read Children of Time!), I like BL, but it was such a bold, imaginative and fresh book, and shows that it can still be done by a skillful author without trampling any of the existing material or fundamentally altering a setting. I think a real coup that BL have got hold of his work and hopefully he'll do more.

I still remember going into a local model shop to get something else, and walked out without my birthday money and this under my arm. The guy in the shop described it as 'Aliens the board game' which was absolutely spot on, and I cannot tell you how many hours my friends and I spent playing this and the expansions (Deathwing was awesome, Genestealer took it a bit far!) - the box has now had several cellotape repair jobs, but still had an honoured space on the gaming shelf and we still get it out from time to time!

There's some great stuff here. For instance, 127 is my favorite issue of White Dwarf. Very glad to still have my copy. Seems like a lot of us value the older bits, and I am no exception. One of my crown jewels is my Zoat collection.

Love Zoats.

Also happy to have the suite of Eldar walkers from Armorcast.

Also have the Tempest and Wave Serpent, but did not like and so do not own the Falcon.

And like many of you, I held on to the old RT and 2nd Ed. books. Too much good stuff from too fun a period.

RoC are often, but not always, available at WHW.

Sadly and frankly indefensibly, the Orky Books have never been reprinted.

As someone who owns neither of those…

Could it be that much of the RoC stuff is still valid, iconic, and relevant to the current lore (if not delved as deeply) while much of the orc stuff has been retconned or swept under the rug for not matching where they want the modern lore to be?

Orky stuff hasn’t really changed that much.

Clan Structures are still there, as are Oddboyz and the general social structure.

Indeed the only thing which has been sort-of-superseded is info on their reproductive cycle. And even that is still speculative in-universe.

Probably my CSM army as a whole. Represents so many different stages of my life for various reasons.

My early White Dwarf issues from 229 onwards. No real money value to them besides my in sentimentality.

Value wise probably the second edition Chaos Codex or one of the Limited Editions of Aurelian by ADB. Ive the original Visions of Heresy artbook as well before the reprints/updates.

I stopped having any mass on the Horus Heresy novels when they changed the format of them and from Old Earth onwards I gave up trying to get the regular paperbacks and just got the ebook version instead.

Oh is that what they are? I'm sure I've got a couple somewhere (from the unit on the bottom-left of the pic, with the dual swords), but I think they're in bad condition - missing swords and so on. Thought they were just old dark elves.

In terms of pure rarity? Probably my FW Epic cathedral. I've only ever seen one for sale in over a decade in the hobby (edit: though, after looking for pictures, maybe a couple more have sold and I didn't see them) and I own it. And once I get the space for proper gaming it's going to be the centerpiece of my Epic table.

Pic is not mine, as it's currently packed away from a move:
