Could Thousand Sons be a good army now?

Thousand Sons - The big rules change here is that when you play the Changehost of Deceit detachment, your Daemons now benefit from the Cabal of Sorcerers army rule. This should open up a completely new playstyle for Thousand Sons players to explore. In support of this, a number of units received some points adjustments down, while the Greater Daemons have mirrored the profile and points changes seen in Chaos Daemons.

My Emperor's Champion and Castellans got more expensive. Crusade Ancient (yawn) and Execrator (on the fence) went down. Still not a great time for my Templars.

This only makes a single detachment better, not the army. The detachment itself isn't great to begin with.

So, it's not as awesome as I was lead to believe?

This certainly makes that detachment better, allowing buffs to screamers who are not terrible and using the AP buff for flamers, but I really don't see any of these changes making that detachment better, or even on par with, the Cabal.

Unfortunately it's not the old metals, it's the plastics from the Army Box / Combat Patrol.

I guess the point of it is it might save a bit of money compared to buying them individually, but a made-to-order for ordinary products you can still buy right now seems a bit of a shame. Especially as you'd save a similar amount just from buying from a non-GW shop in the first place.

I remember that the SoB had slightly different ETB sculpts in their launch Box before the full release, but this MTO are just models you can normally buy, right?

Well, the models aren't those you can buy now, but it isn't that long ago you got them in a Combat Patrol. Maybe it's something for starters or people who are new, missed them and want them for some variety. Not the most exciting MtO though.

Yes. It's at least the same design, but as you mentioned, the models are different.

The annoying thing is they even mention that ComPat box by suggesting ordering a Rhino with it instead of just, y'know, including a Rhino.

Strange - a few differences but not a huge variety compared to what's on the market now. I think if its priced cheap enough it will be popular as a "not starter set" of models to get an affordable start in Sisters with some slightly unique sculpts.

Still would have been cooler to pair it with some of the classic metals on a print-on-demand order.

I own I think 3 of that set, but if they're willing to chuck it out for less than 80USD I can always use more jumppack bodies.

It'll probably be more than the MSRP of the full kits separately, but it's absolutely not worth that.

These are the exact same models as the original launch box of 2019, sharing sprues save for the Canoness on her lonesome (weird that she never got a solo release).

Then it's actually a nice thing to have for people who joined at a later date. Alternative sculpts are always good.

Since there's likely to be a big reveal tomorrow, I'm setting the line for number of Primarchs revealed at 0.5.

I'm also setting that number at 1.5 for the remainder of the edition.

Where does everyone fall?

I felt a great disturbance in the Forums, as if hundreds of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced... as another Ultramarine was released.

Perturabo of course, to stick with the seasonal theme of cheer and merriment.

I'd say the next ones in line are Russ (that is pretty much a given, by virtue of having a line of models and a backstory that requires no major retcon/macguffin to have him like... alive and stuff) and either Perturabo or Lorgar. Both of the latter are Daemons and have some reason to be active - Lorgar would be the more iconic choice for an Undivided DP after all the god-specific ones have had their models, but has the downside of not having done much in the recent past. On the other hand, Perturabo has the better-liked legion and is more interesting (for me, personally), but i'd wager they're saving him up for whenever (if they ever) decide to advance the plot concerning Whatshisname the One-book-wonder and his (presumably) Dark Mechanicus pals.

One of the Grotmas short stories may have been hinting at Peturabo.

Lorgar would be a cool choise, but i dont get the impression he is a very popular Primach. I think for horus heresy it would be great to give him an update (because the existing one is a pretty lame model). It should not be hard to make a really cool crazed daemon preacher.
For 40k it would probably be a headace to include all basic daemons as allies. On the other hand they could take the opportunity to release more generic daemons and finally make something new and fresh for the daemon side.

If it's a Chaos Primarch, betting on Perturabo

If it's loyalist, Russ.

What I'd prefer? Vulcan, who is also alive and kicking.
