Without further a do...

Gitsplitta's Stormboyz Nob (WIP, GMS)

Arakasi's Stormboyz Nob "Twin" (WIP)

Artsoldiers35's Trukk (WIP, GMS)

The Stormboyz Nobz have had their white completed and the black neatened up, ready for metallics and Power Klaw glows...

The Trukk has rivets - lots and lots of rivets! (Had to take two pictures so you could see it all!)

In answer to a previous question, and a recent PM, the red on Da Mig Bek and da Stormboyz Nobz is taken from White Dwarf (UK) 365 - May 2010 - 'Eavy Metal Masterclass "Black Orc Big Boss". It is done in 9 stages (hmmm... I seem to have missed the weathering stage on the Stormboyz Nobz - must go back and fix that!)

1. Basecoat Mechrite Red
2. 1:1 Blazing Orange/Mechrite Red thick edge highlight
3. Blazing Orange edge highlight
4. 1:2 Blazing Orange/Vomit Brown thin edge highlight
5. Vomit Brown thinnest edge highlight
6. Wash Asurmen Blue into recesses and shaded areas
7. Weathering: 1:3 Blazing Orange/Vomit Brown applied in small patches
8. Scorched Brown inside above patches
9. Chainmail inside above.

So - no longer stuck in Edinburgh trying to get down to Birmingham. I did manage last week, eventually, but due to tiredness - well - there was little work done and no updates. Still we should be back on track now - although I'm only down with da boyz 3 nights a week now, and will be away from them the week between Christmas/New Year.

@monkeytroll: Thanks! It was a fun day! I'm a little surprised yours has been the only comment here or on the report itself - I thought everyone was looking forward to Da Dark Angelz vs The Skave...

Right - so I still really need to finish da Stormboyz Nobz and Trukk (and put some serious effort into its twin). I have two more battle reports from Oz to do (I'm putting some extra effort into the fluff for these two - the second was a riot in the end, and they are connected ) And then I really need to finish *my* boyz - or at least make some progress...

Thanks everyone for keeping the blog alive whilst I was away!

The weathering on the wings (in partiocular, both right wings) is excellent. Good job with the rivets too.

Thanks everyone!

@Santobell: These rivets were actually quite easy - I just drilled shallow holes for each one, took some plasticard rod and - glue, place, snip, repeat! They aren't exactly smooth on top - haven't decided yet if I'll give them a light file or just leave them as is (Orky!)

@Artsoldier35: Cool. I had been wondering - but given I'm maybe still half way to applying paint, well, there was no reason to bring it up. Same deal with Dread whalemusic360 is doing for me Like Gitsplitta, you'll probably finish well in advance of me. (Oh - and I've seen your Waagh! in the Army Article - totally worth it! Great job!)

As you say, it's pretty orky to leave the rivets as they are.

Apologies for the delay - I'm having some difficulty uploading images to Dakka As of yesterday, *something* has changed, and my images are corrupting in some way such that Dakka rejects them and they crash GIMP... Work fine in preview, browsers, iPhoto etc still though...

Anyway - have managed to salvage one loading and saving from Preview (no luck on the others yet...)

Having realised whilst writing up the red steps that I hadn't done the weathering on the Stormboyz - in fact, they are only up to step 6 - I *wanted* to complete them, but it would mean wasting some paint (I haven't set up a wet palette yet....) So I had a look around at what else I could do at the same time. Cue my Boyz and Trukk - which I have also been meaning to get back to. They already had step 1 applied, so now for step 2 and 3!

Once I sort out my photos, there will be some more movement on Artsoldier35's Trukk, Step 4 for the above, and then a "spot the change" challenge on Artsoldier35's Trukk

I'll get it sorted eventually...

Forgot to mention - the three boyz above are the three voted by *you* (that would be all of my readers, not just monkeytroll ) for me to complete painting first - way back when... Their dark green highlighting is coming off a bit stark - especially on the non armour bits - and this was where I went a bit overboard on the red and/or ogryn wash on the skin - gotta get back and touch those up eventually... The bright red of stage 2 & 3 is okay though - it should come together once I get to step 6.

What's your plan for re-touching the skin? A green wash?

I keep meaning to add a fleshy wash to my orks, but either forget or become too worried I'll overdo it, and then not be able to recover.

Yes - planning a green wash. I did a much better job on da Big Mek and da Stormboyz Nobz with the fleshy washes. Of course, I ended up redoing the skin on da Big Mek first - so that is always an option, albeit not my preferred for regular Boyz... unfortunately - practice makes progress - I long gave up trying to get this perfect the first time - I mean - what are Boyz for if not practise? There is certainly enough of them

View image, take screenshot, crop, save - the things I do to bring you these images!

Image quality is poorer - but hopefuly you can make out the changes to the rear tray. I have two more pics from other angles to show it off better - but they will have to wait for now. This is the best pic in my view however

@Gitsplitta: They do a bit, don't they? I've been a bit heavy handed with the highlighting, and had issues with the paint staying (either too thin, or wheels too greasy) - but it does have large flat areas, and I plan to cover up any "issues" with the weathering/chipping steps, and then powders (for my first attempt at powders...)

Love that truck, though I feel the armoured flaps at the weels could be tampered with to add even more sense of movement.

Hmmm... possibly its too subtle - though more likely it is the photo (from memory) - but if you consider the tray is on an angle, the flaps are actually perpendicular to the ground - they are supposed to give a sense of gravity and/or movement. Maybe it will be more apparent in later pics, or maybe not...

But for your comment - red part 4 - stack 'o pumpkins!

Also, whilst I have been playing around with what to do next (cab, exhausts, roll-bar/searchlights) I finally dealt with something that has been annoying me for a very long time - can you spot the change?

Have you lowered the cockpit roof thingy? Only thing I can notice.

Yeah, that's my observation as well. I do like the lower roof, looks a little more hot-roddy and a little less like 'Mater from "Cars".

I agree thay they're perpendicular to the ground, but I think that a truck bouncing around wouldn't have his flaps perpendicular

And I'll add a vote to lowering the roof, which definitely improves the overall look!

I appreciate your opinion CommissarKhaine - and will mull over it further. I hate redoing stuff, but I hate taking shortcuts and not doing it right more

Lowering the roof was one of those decisions (and ended up not being that hard anyway...) - it was going to become more obvious once the driver was in place, and makes my plan for the driver side "window" look right rather than wrong...

I really like watching my vision come to fruition. I *really* need to get started on *mine*
