Although the schedule had us down for a 1030 start, thanks to everyone getting there on time and the good setup work done by the GW events team we were able to get cracking early and the first game kicked off just after 1000.

Game 1 was a recon mission. Primary objective was to get 2 or more units into the enemy deployment zone, while preventing any enemy units getting into yours. Secondary was to capture two objective markers in no-mans land.

The strongest starts were made by Yiawchuah with his Space Wolves and croggy's Guard army, who both won their respective games 19-1, with both players remaining on the top tables throughout the competition. Tantras had to sit out the first round due to jwhallam's withdrawal for family commitments, different players would sit out the subsequent rounds to give everyone as much game time as possible.
Each player who missed a round was retrospectively awarded a generalship score for the game they had missed (an average of their scores for the games they did play)

Leaderboard after round 1:
19: Yiawchuah (SW); croggy (IG)
15: Ketara (IG)
14: endtransmission (IG); IanSturrrock (SM)
13: ArbitorIan (DAE)
12: Arakasi (ORK)
11: Titan (SM)
10: Panic (GROTZ); Battlecannon it phil (IG)
9: notprop (IG); Tantras (CSM)
8: SilverMK2 (CSM)
7: Albatross (ORK)
6: mercer (ORK); Taloncab (ORK)
5: Corsair (SM)
1: Mattyrm (SM); ceorron (ORK)

Also during this game the painting was judged and the first Sports scores were added to the overall totals, with all prizes still up for grabs...

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

It will be interesting to see where everyone moves through the tournament... and my crash on game 3

Will this thread have the painting and total sportsmanship scores as well as the battle points?

Ah, cool - I never got to see the final rankings. I wonder where I finished..? Anyway, it doesn't matter - I'm happy with my 'Best Sportsman' and 'I Had The Most Fun' awards!

After all, I'd rather win at life than at 40K!

Feel free to sig that.

The good start was pure luck. The rest... well the rest is just feeble excuses and lack of practice

OK, round 3 results up - this time, it was ceorron who got the bye.

I've been reading the feedback with interest on the original thread and will post my responses to all the questions/comments here after I put up the final results (which will include sportsmanship and painting scores)

51: Yiawchuah (SW)
39: croggy (IG)
38: Taloncab (ORK)
36: mercer (ORK)
35: Ketara (IG); Tantras (CSM)
34: Arakasi (ORK); Panic (GROTZ)
33: ArbitorIan (DAE)
32: Battlecannon it phil (IG); IanSturrock (SM)
25: Albatross (ORK); Corsair (SM); notprop (IG)
23: Titan (SM)
21: ceorron (ORK)
20: endtransmission (IG)
16: SilverMK2 (CSM)
7: mattyrm (SM)

This was very much the decisive round, with Yiawchuah hammering Ketara 20-0. Although quite a few players were still in the hunt going into round 4 (especially Taloncab, who drew Yiawchuah as his final round opponent), all of them were relying on Yiawchuah dropping points - something he'd not done much on the day!

Thanks to all my opponents, especially ArbitorIan for the bigger 1850 pt game yesterday -- his encyclopaedic knowledge of the rules, but un-egotistical way of delivering it (even when he knew the rules about my own units better than I did... I don't usually play at more than 1500 pts, so had some less familiar units in that game!), all made for a very enjoyable crushing defeat at his hands.

Right guys, here are the final standings:

Battle Points first (croggy had the bye in this round):

71: Yiawchuah (SW)
52: croggy (IG); Battlecannon it phil (IG)
49: Ketara (IG)
48: Panic (GROTZ)
45: ArbitorIan (DAE)
44: mercer (ORK)
41: ceorron (ORK); Corsair (SM)
40: Arakasi (ORK); IanSturrock (SM)
38: Taloncab (ORK)
37: Albatross (ORK)
35: Titan (SM); Tantras (CSM)
29: notprop (IG)
28: endtransmission (IG)
22: SilverMK2 (CSM)
7: mattyrm (SM)

Overall standings including painting and sportsmanship. After the total score the 3 numbers in order are Battle Points (out of 80), Painting (out of 10) and Sportsmanship (out of 10).

86.5 (71/7/8.5) Yiawchuah (SW) - Winner, Best General
69 (52/8/9) Battlecannon it phil (IG) - Best Painted
67 (52/7/8) croggy (IG)
64 (48/7/9) Panic (GROTZ)
63 (49/7/7) Ketara (IG)
62 (45/7/10) ArbitorIan (DAE)
59 (44/7/8) mercer (ORK)
56.5 (41/7/8.5) Corsair (SM)
56 (41/7/8) ceorron (ORK)
55 (38/7/10) Taloncab (ORK)
52.5 (40/4/8.5) Arakasi (ORK)
52 (40/2/10) IanSturrock (SM)
51 (35/7/9) Titan (SM)
49 (37/2/10) Albatross (ORK) - Best Sportsman, Most Fun Award!
43.5 (35/0/8.5) Tantras (CSM)
43 (28/5/10) endtransmission (IG)
40.5 (29/2/9.5) notprop (IG)
40 (22/8/10) SilverMK2 (CSM)
23 (7/7/9) mattyrm (SM) - Wooden Spoon, I got pwned! Award

note that mattyrm and Tantras got 0's for painting because someone else had painted their forces, not because they were bare plastic!

For myself, I had a great day and met some fantastic guys. I really hope I have a chance to meet up with you all again soon.

If I was to do this again, the two things that people have mentioned that I would change are the scoring system and the timings.

There was some confusion over the scoring because I had not correctly worded the objective rules and I apologise to those who were puzzled by this - it was entirely my own fault. A couple of niggles also came about as I had not fully considered the impact of IG blob squads and SM combat squads when I wrote the missions.

As for timing, this is always a problem at tournaments. Dividing time so as to allow the maximum number of games with enough time to finish each one is always difficult. The situation was also not helped by the number of IG/ork armies present! In the future I would probably want to play fewer games at a slightly higher points value (perhaps 3x 1500 rather than 4x 1000), or look if possible at extending the tournament over two days.

Still, really enjoyed the event. Thanks again to all who took part, for Legoburner for saying hello and donating a prize for Best Painted army, for ArbitorIan who helped get the ball rolling and for Ketara for providing the inspiration with Platinum Devil.

See you all soon, Simon

Woo, 2nd best painted and 2nd from bottom overall

I think that 6x 1,000 games over 2 days may have been better for timing. As it was, on the Sunday I managed to get in 1x 1,500 and 1x 1,800 games, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, playing at a comfortable pace.

However, I did have fun in all my games even with the fast pace. The last game especially could have been quite fun if played out for all the turns to give units a chance to cycle through a couple of times

Thanks again Chimera_Calvin for organizing an excellent event, ArbitorIan and Ketara for assisting/inspiring - and everyone else who played or attended.

I will definitely take away fond memories of Warhammer World and meeting and playing, well, those I met and played!

There should be no excuse for Da Dark Angelz to not be fully painted next time - wait - 1500pts? It never ends...

Looking forward to the next one, Da Boss willing...

I was told that at the start of the day! He should have scored 7/10 for painting if that's his own work.

Can someone confirm that and I'll add it to his score? Cheers.

What an excellent, excellent day. Thanks so much for sorting Simon - it was EASILY better than many of the official tournaments I've attended. You're a legend.

Blast that i fell brutally down the rankings after taking a beating of epic proportions from Yiawchuah in the final game. Curse him! Great fun though.

Apologies that I was so busy gaming all weekend i didn't meet/play as many of you guys as I'd have liked to, but I'm sure I'll make up for this on the next one.

Chris (Taloncab)

PS - would agree that 1500 x 3 games would probably work better. Just to give more time per game. But overall it was nice to keep the points low to keep games simple. 750-1000 is probably my fave scale game anyway

Hmm only 2 points for artistic impression, that was some of my best priming on show as well

I think my getting 9.5 for sportsmanship really shows what sound group of fellers turned up considering my own half-arsed grasp of the rules.

I would never consider myself to be a Tournament gamer (as shown by my list and showing) but I would happily sign up for the next Dakka event today I enjoyed it so much.

See you all at the next one! (I suggest Silver Sorcerer 2: THIS TIME ITS PAINTED as a working title)

I quite like bigger games, but would have (this year) struggled to make a competitive list with pure Ravenwing at much over 1000 pts, just because I don't personally own enough attack bikes (would have been quite happy to ditch the speeders entirely in favour of more bikes & attack bikes, all told). That said, I'd be very happy with higher-point games next year, & will have finished my tyranid army by then I hope...

yeh raise the points to 1500 for next time and if possible, and maybe make an effort to play other armies if possible for the players. like a gentlemans agreement to try and bring a different race next time, and a beer if you have the only army/style army of people there.

you don't ask the actual player before giving him/her a zero for a tourney? it's probably a good idea to do so.

I am quite ashamed of my 2 for painting (which I only got by ensuring I had stuff primed the day before), but it was certainly well-deserved! I will have stuff painted by next year, I hope.

If you expect me to model and paint another army, especially one at 1500 points, for next time... we'd better make Silver Sorcerer 2 sometime in 2012!
