So the rumor mill is always turning on something new, whether we're talking 40k or Fantasy. We've all been there - read some rumor that we thought was awesome, horrible, or what have you, only for it not to come true. What are some rumors you remember that never ended up happening? I'll list some of mine to start:

- For the Imperial Guard codex (current edition) there was a rumored conscript platoon. This platoon's command squad would be a "blocking squad" of one commissar and three heavy bolters. If the conscripts failed morale, they would be shot by the heavy bolters and get a reroll.

- Blood Angels would get normal scouts as troops choices, but special "Baal Scouts" as elites. These would have a Mad Max/post apocalyptic vibe and would be more savage in close combat.

- With the most recent release of Codex: Space Marines, we would have gotten a recut Marine kit, with new bits for older marks of armor.

I know there's been tons more, but I can't recall them all right now - share some of yours!

WHFB: before the 8th ed book came out, everybody was absolutely guaranteeing that heavy cavalry wouldn't be able to march.

Also, the miscast table was supposed to be scarier. :: scoffs::

Reminds me of the rumor that the Hellhound kit would look like one of the Forgeworld ones - the new kit isn't bad, but nowhere near as cool as the Forgeworld ones!

Remember the debacle over the Hammerhead drawing a line and punching through multiple tanks for the new Tau codex. I beleived this was also discussed before the 2006 codex as well

I enjoyed the 4th edition chaos marines codex. I've got a lot of mileage out of it beyond the typical lash build. It may not have been as simple as the previous edition's demon bombs but all in all I feel it's a good codex with different builds available.

There was once a Monday last September where GW tantalized us with an "important" annoucement, which lead to hyped Dark Eldar rumour mongering.

Needless to say there was no new DE but two "meh" looking metal Fantasy minis.

Some reactions can be summed up as here -> http://nooooooooooooooo.com/

Heaven forbid that Rippers be able to do something cool and fluffy.

That's not really a rumor, that's just an assumption. Same with the Stormraven post. We just assume these kinds of things as a given, then get surprised when we're wrong. Wouldn't say it's a rumor that got debunked or anything.

A fairly recent one was that the new (hah!) Basilisk kit would also be able to make a Griffon, Colossus, etc. and that there was a possibility of a close topped option. A 'ham can dream...

The constant rumours of a new Necron codex that never come to anything :(

Looking for fun articles on painting, tactics and wargaming? Are you after a new regular blog to follow? Are you a bit bored with nothing better to do?

If the answer to any of the above is 'well, I guess' you could probably do worse than read my blog! Regular wargaming posts, painting and discussions

40K timeline would advance. Ultramarine controlled planets would rebel and be declared heretics by the Imperium. This would trigger a new civil war.

It really is now. Sadly, I've become cynical enough that whenever I hear 'Necrons will be out in 20-whatever!', I don't even get slightly excited any more, and just think, 'psh, yeah right'

The rumour that 40k was being entirely redesigned for 4th edition by Andy Chambers.

But, the company chickened out and he went to Mongoose Publishing where the rules were used for the Starship Troopers game.
