Those bases are sweet, they'd be perfect for those nids.

I will totally be getting those bases in the future, they are freaking gorgeous.
I finished the first 9 (I left one out of the shots D nids for my personal army, this is the basic standard for the troops, hq/specials will have much higher standard.
It was my first time doing bases that weren’t just painted sand with a bit of flock and I really wanted them to be quite green and overgrown looking, so I used static grass trimmed to different lengths when dry, rubber flock as moss, and big Army Painter jungle tufts. Lovely and green. I want to get some little twig bits and add them on too, bits of root etc. Some little stones too
They are super hard to shoot as their contrasts are so crazy, but I think the idea is getting across.
I also finished up Nazdreg
He has so many tiny details it is kinda ridiculous. I was worried for a while that he was going to end up too busy looking, but the last few focus points really helped out. I kept him very cartoony but with a lot of weathering detail to match the rest of the orks Just needs some varnish and a gloss coat on his eyepiece now.
Gits, please let me know if there is anything you would like changed. Thanks!

The nid scheme is very cool. What else you got to paint up for your own nid army?
And indeed, orks have a lot of neato tiny details. I like him! His gesture indicates that he plans on standing there while everyone else charges forward. What a bum.

Or he is about to catch a football one of his boys just threw, who knows!
My Nids so far are 20 genestealers, 20 gaunts, loads of rippers, a carnifex, and lots of spore thingies. I need to get some warriors or something else to balance it out, not decided yet Will also have some goblin spider riders arriving soon, for my spider gobbo army which is also on the way. I don't play competitively so as long as an army looks nice and is fun, I'll play a basic version of it hehehe.

AHHHHHHHHHHJASGHDhasdjjsha, thank you, I totally forgot, I wanted to run a blue wash over it to help that out and instead got all excited and took shots! Will get on it. Also noticed a little metal on his face that I need to fix up.

Nice Nids Ifalna.
How do you keep the teeth so clean and distinct?
Is it just a matter of being careful and doing one at a time with a tiny brush and not slapping on white and hoping to miss the black bits?
I'm just being lazy aren't I?

I often browse your blog to catch up with everything you do when i've got time as it grows so darn fast! but honestly your Nids are so well done and pleasing to the eye I have re-subscribed so I don't miss ANY of them coming to fruition, when the big boys hit the table I'm going to be a very happy Nerd ;-) I'm especially looking forward to a chameleon themed Lictor, would be AMAZING! and even if you don't plan on doing one, i'll have to get you to do one for me lol!

You nids look fantastic by-the-way. The gloss on the carapace really makes them jump. My recommendation is not to get warriors... they're a bad use of points (or so the nid common wisdom goes).

I'm seriously considering the jungle bases haha, these will do for now, but I could well end up buying some in the future.
I'm going to get some little brown roots from the garden to add to them to represent little logs, and maaaaybe some flower effects, not sure. The more variety (within reason) on the bases, the better they will look.

I laughed when you said on the bigger bugs youd do better detail then the smaller ones. I mean for realz?! How can you pull that level of detail off on a blob of little bugs, and STILL have left some tricks in the bag?

These Nids have got a real 'classic' 40K look to them - I remember them being this kind of colour when I first got into 2nd ed. Beautiful work. Looking forward to seeing what's next.

Oh man I have so many tricks I could make a show.
Big ones will have faded spotting, maybe some stripes, neon markings, oh god theres so much possibility I need to go lie down send help oh no.
Snrub wrote:Oh Ifalna out of interest, what gloss do you use?
It's an old pot of liquid 'Ard coat that came in my giant citadel set many many years ago, it is great stuff. Any high gloss varnish would work wonders. I use gloss all the time, in mouths, on lenses, on eyes etc, it's a super quick and very nice extra little touch to any mini, and we all know it's the little touches that make the model

OH GOD, YOU GOT IT!! YES!!
That was totally part of the inspiration, I remember when nids all stood upright with 4 curvy talons and were all terrible yellows and oranges, oh god they were horrific/fantastic.

These guys have pretty simple teeth, the closed mouths have a drybrush of bleached bone, open mounts have the teeth picked out, then I give them a heavy wash of devlin mud. I pick them out individually then with bleached bone, and once again with a tiny bit of white. It's pretty quick really, I think at this point I've just trained my hands to be able to do tiny highlights fast, which is invaluable!

The glowy bullets just kind of happened, his gun was so ridiculous I figured there is no way it shot regular shots, and I thought of the glowy rounds Hellboy used in the first movie and just went with it
Shame about the warriors then, what would you recommend? It's been so so long since I played. I just need a small army for sub 1k point games
