Still waiting lord_blackfang but I'm sure it'll show eventually. Would have like my stuff sooner especially given how heavy I went but it's not annoying yet or anything. Got to much stuff going on getting ready for adepticon

I am still waiting too... I didn't even get all that much, just a bunch of exclusives and the main set.

Well at least I'm not alone

I went in for all of every faction and 4 of all the monsters except for with Hadross as I wasn't really feeling them as a faction and just got the one so someone else could play whatever they wanted if they liked them.

I didn't get Hadross - and I now wish I did!

I went 'all in' on Teknes and Goritisi, and I like what I've seen from what I've unboxed so far - though I've only unboxed about 20%!

I got 1 of everything and this turned out to be plenty for standard sized games. Actually nearly enough for blue on blue.

Missing the Nasier starter, sadly.

Not kidding, if I get a starter out of my Adepticon VIG Swag bag before my stuff actually comes in I'm gonna be a bit annoyed.

Checked my Iron Eyes and Ancient King - both okay. They messed up my Zombicide add-ons and there's the base issue to deal with. What's this about card mis-packs? Which sets? I'm really not wanting to open more than I need to right now because I'm a bit over hugely-delayed, mis-packed Kickstarters, so I just want to ensure I get everything I paid for, get it sorted and then put it away until I can care again.

I had 2 replacement cards each for my Shae Han and Goritsi specialist boxes (not sure if those were the only ones affected)

the replacement cards were in a plastic ziplock just slid into the main shipping box by cutting a slit in the tape and then resealing it, but careful how you open the main box, and what you do with the packaging the replacement cards may well be in there

Although with the extra time they had the AUS stuff for it's possible they actually opened the boxed and actually fixed the problem before your stuff was sent....

Edit: also worth checking the Gortisi Dancing Masters, one of mine is missing a face (big airbubble) and I've seen a couple of similar reports on the comments

Everything else is quite alright. some mold lines, yes, but nothing toooo bad.

I got my stuff finally. Haven't looked over every model, but the ones I have looked very good and overall quite happy.

As expected from this thread, the Goritsi bases are terrible and do not in any way represent what was shown in the KS. I've backed around 15 kickstarters and have never complained, but I am definitely breaking my streak on that because I ordered a lot of these and quite frankly, I can't even figure out what the heck they're supposed to be. I would much rather just add some PVA glue and sand to a base than whatever these things are.

Do ask for a refund/replacement for the bases (they'll give you a refund), mine came through pretty quickly

the more of us that do so the less likely they are to do the same again in the future without properly informing backers of the change and allowing them to ask for alternatives or refunds

I doubt it'll ever be an issue again, as in future mini KSes (if there are any) they'll probably just allow the plastic MAS bases as add ons.

That would have worked for me - those bases are great!

The "Goritsi Themed" ones here?

Not so much...

Orlando (I think?) - you mentioned that you already got your refund?

I guess we don't have to wait until the 9th to send that email?

CMON Wrath of Kings - Beasts of War Week Starts...now! @ 2015/03/07 18:50:38

They treated the bases as a separate issue and dealt with it immediately as I emailed as soon as they arrived, and I got a ticket number immediately, then an actual response in 2 or 3 days (the actual refund then took a couple of weeks to come through)

but they said I needed to re-email them again about my dancing master with the missing face which I also reported in the same email once they had moved on to dealing with replacement parts

so if you want to do both at once waiting til Monday is probably smart

My Hadross Specialist replacement cards were inside the back cover of my rulebook.

Very impressed with the Hadross stuff. I got one of each everything, and no egregious mold lines, all parts accounted for.

Really like the beefyness of the Carcharadons. I got two boxes which resulted in 3 boxes worth of models with the KS bonuses.

Only letdown at all is the bases being so deep. It actually kind of works for the Hadross, by making me think of doing water effect on most of them.

I'm waiting for my Goritsi I got thru a friend's pledge, but I can't see them being any less satisfactory.

Sorry if I've missed it in this thread...

but is there any idea when the general release will be?

I saw a group near me started this game so I've been looking into it and liked pretty much everything I've seen.

Looks like a really fun skirmish game and you get a lot for your money.

I'd assume general release will probably be in April or so since they have been selling at conventions and are probably just making sure all KS stuff is sorted before going to general release.

Also as a sidenote they never shipped my stuff and are now looking into why

@Orlando

I think it'll be fine. I think mine was just open up to the last minute (i.e. like 2 days before they announced shipping) and they probably printed them all off before they announced and since mine wasn't closed it didn't get printed.

Assuming it gets taken care of (which I'm 99% sure it will) I have zero complaints. They reopened my pledge for me multiple times when I wanted to add stuff so I'm not gonna bitch to loud

I've played multiple games, and have been playing the game for around 2 years. I love it. I think for people that want something Fantasy Skirmishy ala Confrontation, it's going to scratch a lot of the same itches.

Games are quick and easy to follow with lots of really fun interactions between the models.

Awesome, just awesome. I'm going to mention it to my group. Everyone liked Infinity, but no one (other than me) seemed willing to take the extra steps to learn the rules and depth. WoK is cheaper, is fantasy, and doesn't require additional terrain. If they don't like it, I may have to finally make new friends.

Once you get off the GW bandwagon, it's overwhelming. I keep seeing new games I want to play. But what happens is I just have more models I never paint. Deadzone/Infinity/Imperial Assault/WoK all look like really fun games. I can't possibly play them all.... or can I?

Got a starter set in my VIG swag bag at AdeptiCon which I gave to Gitsplitta's son, and he swapped it at the CMON booth for the werewolves faction. He really likes them, I think! I also bought myself a pack of 2 WoK minis, one of which is ogre sized, and it was only $15 for both.

Casts look quite good on the organics. I haven't tried assembling them, but I would say it is a definite step up from previous efforts in the material (although it still won't ever be my favorite stuff due to how hard it is to convert, especially with the square pegs for separate parts).

So a solid B to B+ from me on these, at least on the nice chunky models I got to check out in-person.

Building my Nasir today. After that the Teknes or Shael-Han. Might consider getting rid of my entire Hadross line. I'm not really in love with them so if anyone is interested feel free to hit me up.

I foolishly did not get the heroes or the Sharkmen or the Orsund Cav

CMON Wrath of Kings - Beasts of War Week Starts...now! @ 2015/03/24 04:19:08

Post by: highlord tamburlaine

I dumped my Hadross and Teknes, mostly since I knew I'd never get to them. Hadross played a bit too slow and steady for my tastes. I just wanted more sharks, and I was a bit bummed about how average sized they were. I don't know why I expected something of Mierce- like proportions, or at least comparable to a GW or Mantic Ogre.

On the other hand, I've steadily been chugging through my Nasier forces. If my brother ever stops painting 40k stuff, maybe we could have a game proper. At least one side will be painted.

Or if he doesn't, he should just give me all his wolf heroes, since that's what I'm really after, and have consistently lost every auction for them I've seen.

Out of curiosity, how do the Shael Han Children stack up in size to their respective hero (the dude with the spear and bionic arm)? Thinking they might find a place in my Noh Empire/ Ogre Kingdom Kings of War Ogres if they're big enough.

I bought the entire line of Wrath of Kings Cincy so I have everything for all factions. Some more than others in the case of the Rank 2 Specialists since I bought 4 of all but the Hadross one since I knew it'd be the most likely faction I dropped after I started building and painting.

Anyone else not thrilled with the cast quality of the Twilight Knight? Also, damn, that is some fragile resin... not too optimistic about KD's resins now, at least as they serve as gaming pieces.

Yeah, KD resin models are really just paint projects, imo... their plastics should be much sturdier, though.

CMON Wrath of Kings - Beasts of War Week Starts...now! @ 2015/03/24 17:15:22

Yea, just surprised at the lack of density and strength of the model. I will probably end up making a Twilight Knight counts as to actually play with.

resin is generally fragile, there are different types of resin, some more resilient that others. The Resin used on the twilight knight and the wrath of kings preview minis were like hollow glass tubes. Very fragile. The arena rex stuff is a bit more durable but still fragile compared to HIPs plastic which is what kingdom death is being made of. Wargames factory stuff is durable, detailed and easy to clean and assemble.

CMON Wrath of Kings - Beasts of War Week Starts...now! @ 2015/03/25 22:28:37

I don't think WoK uses any HIPs plastic at all, does it?

Wehrkind actually does resin casting, so if he's saying the resin (not the normal PVC ones) is extremely fragile, he's probably right!

Post by: Wehrkind

Yea, I am just surprised that a gaming piece (I mean, the TK comes with rules cards) really is not meant to be actually touched at all. Rather a disappointment... I generally don't consider casting something into resin to make it MORE durable, but I think I would have to do that to make the TK playable on the table. I am rather wishing that I had decided to just sell it NIB instead of starting to put it together.

(The fact that I had to clean off some rough mold lines and slippage points left me a little cold too, but at least the low density resin just flew off at the touch of the file.)

So it's safe to send missing part requests?

My extra Iron Eyes with two cloaks hiding inside of the Ancient King's box is something I'd like to get rectified.

I'm hoping once my brother gets settled in his new place we get a chance to play. Seeing the online prices for some of these figures now that they're out in the wild makes me wish I had gone in even more than I did during the KS (which is really odd since I sold off the bulk of my extra factions).

I still want some of those Goritsi wolves.

I have to say, I continue to feel pretty irked about the bases they sent with my models. It was a pretty scumbag move in my opinion. To use them at all you either have to go buy their (late to deliver, big surprise) base inserts (clearly what they intended) or buy some other goop to fill in the massive well. It has put a hold on my desire to paint anything. Sending out the plain dirt inserts for the Goritsi "graveyard" bases was also a jerk move. Overall, it left me with the impression that CMON doesn't give a crap about their customers. Despite being pretty pleased with the models I don't think I'll go for another CMON KS.

You need to get over it. That's the style base they use for Dark Age as well. It's hardly a "scumbag" move.

Post by: Gallahad

Cheap trick then? It is like somebody selling you an all inclusive cruise ticket, but when you show up, you have to buy their special key card to get into the dining hall. I thought they developed these deep dish bases specifically for their bases Kickstarter? Have they been using them for a long time?

It would have certainly helped if they had just been upfront about it. Something along the lines of "these come with deep dish bases incompatible with standard basing techniques" instead of "Surprise! You need to buy our other thing to use your bases."

As for "getting over it" I see no reason why I should. Short of them sending me better bases, it will continue to be a negative mark against CMON for me. Maybe I will suddenly enjoy spending my hobby time building up bases with wood filler?

At least 5 years with dark age.

What "standard basing techniques" are those? Putting wood filler, putty, or plain old sand/ballast in the bases works just fine. Are there some "standard basing techniques" I'm missing? Additionally, the bases are perfect for using water effects with, say, the Hadross.

There's nothing wrong with the bases you were supplied with.

Apply glue to base, dip in sand or ballast. It takes me one layer of sand+PVA to cover a regular base. Just eye-balling it, It would likely take me 3-4 layers to fill up the CMON ones using the same method. I don't want the lip of the base covering the ankles of my miniatures, and I don't want to spend my time building up bases with wood filler or whatever just to have them be use-able.

I agree they are perfect for water effect bases. I hope to use some of them to that effect someday. Unfortunately, the ratio of fishmen to land based miniatures I need to base is pretty low. I don't think water effects would work well for the Goritsi or Teknes, or anything else I currently own. Maybe lizardmen? That might look cool on a couple..

 cincydooley wrote:

Your Jedi mind control won't work on me! I remain unhappy with the bases because they take senseless extra work and money to make useful. Even after I fill them with wood filler (some day), I will still have to apply sand or ballast to get a decent texture. Do you disagree that they take more work than a standard flat top base?

I appreciate the insider info you gave us from CMON during the campaign, but we will just likely have to disagree on this point. No matter how many times you tell me the bases are fine, they take extra time and money to make use-able for land based miniatures, and I can't see how that is a good thing. The only benefit to the deep dish bases is that they are compatible with CMON's very own base inserts, that I have two problems with: 1) They are not available to buy and 2) They were not included with the bases.

It is like they sent me half a base, and want me to either pay for the other half, or sculpt it myself with a goop of my choice.

I wholly understand that you're unhappy with them. I was probably a bit too brief in my previous response. I put most of my stuff on resin bases, and when I don't I actually find the deeper wells allow for more scenic and fancy things to be done with the base, which I prefer.

While this doesn't solve your problem now, the MAS plastic bases will fit perfectly in the deeper wells of the CMoN bases. So there will be that option in the future.

Cheers!

Guys, I also totally get not being happy about getting deep dish (love that name ) bases if you weren't expecting them.

But let me tell you the process I went through to deep-dish base my gator army before these existed:

1. 3D printed some master bases that Jin modeled up in SolidWorks
2. Had Wehrkind make silicone molds and cast copies of these bases
3. Realized I wanted to use a deeper scenic insert than I had planned, so lasercut a hole in the middle of every base
4. Lasercut an acrylic piece to put under the newly cut hole in each base
5. Glued in the lasercut acrylic piece and scenic insert to each base

So, while I get the dislike for receiving these by surprise, man oh man why didn't they exist before now

That said, I likely would have done some of this process anyway since Jin's base design has a nice, clear front arc (useful for Warmachine) integrated into it, which is part of why I wanted to use them. But still, that was a lot of work to get to where you guys are at naturally

CMON Wrath of Kings - Beasts of War Week Starts...now! @ 2015/04/27 19:49:28

Post by: Wehrkind

That list would make us a lot more sympathetic to your plight if it didn't include the word "lasercut" so often.

"These bases! I received no fewer than 3 naked hugs from behind from Jessica Alba during the process. It was rough!"

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I do rather agree that it would have been a classy move to at least offer standard bases instead of the deep dish bases for people in case they didn't get the inserts. I have tons of spare PP bases (and my own make) so I am fine, but still, I can see why people would be irked.

I see that some places in the States such as Miniature Market have some WOK boxes at retail already. Has there been any word from CMON about a UK/EU distributor and when we are likely to see retail over here?

Also have CMON set out any kind of release schedule?

Nothing so far,

but they've only been available at CMON itself in the US since 6th April

(I'd guess Wayland Games will end up with them at the very least as they carry most of CMONs stuff)

Oh wow, I had no idea these weren't available at retail yet - I just took it for granted seeing them for sale at AdeptiCon! The models impressed all the folks I talked to who saw them there, and I even bought one . So kudos to CMON for honing their PVC craft and overcoming some of its flaws, at least for organic models.

It is still far from my favorite material, but I have more of an appreciation for what it's useful for now. And heck, I've pledged for their latest campaign (B-sieged!). I am viewing that as board game pieces... but beautiful ones

Thanks for the information Orlando. I like the idea of WOK as a supplementary game and getting a box of miniatures and painting it up every few months and having a nice force after a year or two.

I have never really dealt with CMON, is there any real future for the game or is it a case of once everything funded by the Kickstarter is released that is it?

Not at all. If you look at how dark age has sustained, that's probably what you should be expecting. I imagine there will be quite a bit to come from wrath of kings in the future.

I'm sure we'll see more releases in the future, but my question is whether it will be straight to retail or via another KS campaign.

I'd be good either way. There was some cool stuff that was done as concept art we haven't gotten to see figures of yet!

That is good to hear. The game already has some unique and well designed factions and I have heard largely positive things about the game play. So it seems like WOK will be a good use of my hobby money and time.

Edit for backers that have raised a support ticket: This just popped up in the Kickstarter comments:

"We have had to adjust the personnel on staff for our support department recently. Because of this there may have been a lapse in support coverage. If you have submitted a support ticket for either a missing order or a parts request more than 2 weeks ago and have not had a response, we would like to ask for you to submit a new ticket to support@cmon.com. We will work to happily and quickly sort out any issue you may need resolved. Thank you for your patience."

Ohhhh.

Given that it's CMoN, a KS wouldn't surprise me, but I think they want it to be sustained through retail growth and support like Dark Age.

I can certainly ask....

I didn't get the chance to go due to a family thing that came up but I heard it went well. We had 6 people for it. Nasier apparently crushed it. Granted most of the players don't have access to their 3rd infantry choices or their rank 2 leaders yet but from what I heard we had a solid spread of all the factions with a double up on Hadross (?).

We are currently setting up a gaming day where we can kinda round robin it to get in 3+ games in an afternoon. We've got a good group of guys interested and once I get some more games in I'm going to be trying to set up demos in my area of the twin cities so we'll see

Sweet. I have been inserting the tendrils of WoK into some local brains here in NoVA, but haven't had time to roll anything serious. I am really regretting not get everything in the KS though... would I have had the Rank 2 leaders etc now if I had? Or is everyone required to wait out the summer for the full release?

CMON Wrath of Kings - Beasts of War Week Starts...now! @ 2015/05/21 16:55:28

Nope, you'd have had the entire line, including the 3rd infantry units and the Rank 2 leaders if you'd purchased them in the KS. I bought literally the entire line and am in the process of building my Teknes now. I've got my Nasier and Goritsi built and will be building the Shael-han here in a week or so. Then on to painting. I'm still looking to sell off the entire hadross line and have been selling some of my extras to locals to encourage growth of the game

Overall really excited that we seem to have a decent start on people being into it. Hopefully it takes off here.

Ahh damnit. Oh well, I am just now getting the bases for ~ 3/4 of my Nasier, Shael Han and Goritsi done, and hopefully will get to start airbrushing on some base coats this weekend. So I probably don't need too many more shiny things just yet. I might get my Teknes and Hadross done by the time I can buy more. Strange there is a delay in getting out the left over bits though, given that they were produced for the KS.

Which I'm good with. Only one store locally is stocking it and if it went KS again we'd have zero chance at getting into any other stores. As it is if we push it locally we might see some stores actually pick it up since it's not a ton of shelf space.

CMON Wrath of Kings - Beasts of War Week Starts...now! @ 2015/05/25 17:42:49

Post by: RiTides

There's a local store that stocks it here, too (Games n Stuff). It looks pretty good on the shelves, it's just always a bit of a battle to see which games get adopted locally (and thus get continued support from the store) and which don't as much.

This same store sells Deep Wars and some other interesting lines, though, so I'm hopeful they'll continue to have room for WoK, as I'd very much like to be able to pick up some models locally.

On that note, did Ephrimaki , the Deepcaller Lord, get generally released yet?

CMON Wrath of Kings - Beasts of War Week Starts...now! @ 2015/05/25 19:06:50

Post by: Wehrkind

I agree it is probably better for local stores to carry things for a game to get popular, but I wonder how much popularity a game needs before that happens, and whether WoK is likely to ever hit that point. Then again, I am not exactly blessed with lots of good game stores around, so I expect to buy pretty much everyone online no matter what happens. Different parts of the country probably have very different expectations!

CMON Wrath of Kings - Beasts of War Week Starts...now! @ 2015/05/25 19:19:20

Our will generally do a small order if people start showing interest or if they see people playing it and someone offers to run a demo day. But we have like 9 games stores in a relatively close area and a pretty big community that's willing to give new games a shot. And so far Wrath is doing pretty well in our area and if it keeps going I expect it to grow pretty well since one of our larger stores is stocking it.

Here are some not so great photos of some of the conversions I have done with WoK minis. I hate steampunk with a burning passion, so I decided to try to make the Teknes workers look more generic fantasy, and give some more variation since there are only 3 union linemen sculpts. I heated up the sculpts in front of a little room heater, and then just chopped off the offending random steampunk bits, and sculpted on little pouches and packs.
Up first is a simple sword swap and addition of a shield

On the next lady I just added a bow and a quiver. (I later turned her head so it is looking over her left shoulder as well).

When I took the pictures the men weren't really finished. But they are currently primed in black, and far to difficult for my poor photography skills to capture. I will post up some images when I finish painting them. These are just a couple of added helmets, a head swap, and a torso angle change.

And finally, since some of them simply can't be saved from steampunkery, I decided I would make a band of pulp/steampunk ancient evil/cthulhu hunters clad in the impressive (yet prone to failure in critical moments) S-450 class steam armor.
Up first is a dour old librarian known as "Mrs. Krilwich" It doesn't matter how bleak the circumstances, it is wise to watch your tongue around Mrs. Krilwich, or you may end up another stain on her enormous hammer.
(shown next to the original sculpt to show conversion)

Next up is Patty Malone,a quiet man. A buckler, a brace of pistols, and a cigar against the terrors of the night.

I've since made a couple other conversions. I'll share more if there is any interest.

When heated to very high temperatures, the material is very pleasant to work with for conversions. Just be careful not to include any of the abs/hips plastic swords or weapons when you heat them up or you will melt those pieces a little before the PVC becomes pliable and slice-able.

Here's the TGN article

Spoilers due to image size only.

CoolMiniOrNot’s miniature game news keeps rolling in from CMON Expo as the design team behind the newly launched Wrath of Kings (WoK) held a panel looking at the future of the franchise. For those of you unfamiliar with the game, it’s a miniatures game offering scalability in battle, ranging from small skirmish games to more massive battles between huge regiments and battalions. In it, five Houses — Teknes, Hadross, Nasier, Shael Han, and Goritsi — clash over the land of Arikania. Michael Shinall (Senior Designer) and Eric Kelley (Writer and Editor) took players through the changing environment and story of the game and revealed a few secrets of what’s to come.

Eric Kelley took players through the ever changing story of the WoK. One of the unique aspects of the game is the community’s impact on its future. Originally, the Houses were all warring against each other in what is called the Second Scion War (thanks to the Goritsi stirring up a bunch of trouble). To decide the winners and losers of this war, CMON has left it in the hands of the players at large events during major conventions.

At TempleCon, House Shael Han walked away with a major victory, seizing the major economic port city of Qualat Mon. But the Hadross quickly recovered at Adepticon, leaving the current story at them laying siege to Kylos, the seat of the old Empire. Going in to GenCon, Hadross players will have an in-game advantage. Whoever wins it all at GenCon will seize control of the Empyrean Throne and have a great impact on WoK’s future storylines.WoKMap

However, WoK players attending CMON Expo will also have a chance to put their mark on the game as the Houses battle over Falour, one of the smaller Free Cities, which offers strategic resources thanks to the Lord Teknes Dam. The winning player of this weekend’s tournament can decide to fortify the position, open the spillways, or blow the whole dam thing up. The last option would actually remove Falour from the map. It’s really cool to see a game that allows its community to have such an impact on its future.

Speaking of direction, Michael Shinall elaborated on the new WoK products players can look forward to. Much like their Dark Age strategy, CMON plans to release a new book every six months, each adding new troop types and specialists, along with five new characters. The deciding factor of which House gets new characters first is again entirely up to the winners of tournaments. Kicking off the new books is Wrath of Kings: Unbound (working title) in February 2016. This is the first major expansion to the game, and offers players some new choices.

For the House Nasier players, the Pelagarth Brute was teased. The trade mark masks of the House transform the males into these hulking monsters, making them glass cannons of the army. Other players will want to watch out for the Brute’s chain hooks, grabbing opponents from afar and pulling them to their death. The Hadross are bringing their big guns out too. Gar, the Gladiator calls upon the Carcharan Deepmen. These powerful units are built for combat, wading in, taking hits, growing stronger, and healing as they go. All-in-all, you don’t want to mess with these guys.
Spoiler:

Teknes, normally the guys playing a little more defensively, will be responding in force as well, bringing the Butcher to the field. He is smarter than your average Union Worker and built in a more offensive manner than previous units. The Goritsi seem to be going the opposite direction of Teknes with the introduction of the Skorza Executioners. This big guy lumbers in to battle with plate mail armor, as opposed to the lighter leather armor other Skorza wear. This means the Executioners are a bit slower, but what they lack in speed is made up by their ability to survive.
Spoiler:

Last but not least is House Shael Han. In the new book, the Chinese Zodiac plays an inspirational roll in the House’s new troops. The first of them being the tiger soldiers. Channeling the spirit of the animals they are based on, the tiger soldiers will dash around the battlefield, dealing damage and retreating before the opponent has a chance to respond.

Coming sometime after Unbound is the Campaign rule book. Campaigns will allow players to take a more vested interest in their armies. Leaders can be given names and grow as more games are played. Armies themselves will also grow and become more defined through traits and abilities acquired through choices made during a campaign. There is no hard date for this, but they hope to have it out sometime in 2016. Also mentioned was a motivation card pack coming sometime in future.

Lots of cool stuff in store here - and still sad I passed up on Hadross - that new unit looks awesome!

It should be enough to set Highlords to Highlordin' too!

There will only be Highlording if those sharks are just a tad bit bigger. I was a bit underwhelmed with the sharks and fel hammers in regards to size. A little bit more bulk would have gone a long way, especially in comparison to how large some of those Goritsi wolves are.

I actually like the new pig there the most. It's like an old aristocratic 3 eyed pig.

I love the look of the new wolfen that have been shown here. I hope they show up before too long. It is too bad the shark men, etc. are too small. The Wolfen and Pig-men are really pretty huge.

Doubt there will be a Wave 2 KS.

All of the product going forward should see normal retail release without a KS.

I wouldn't completely rule out another Kickstarter.

It would be a good way to introduce new factions quickly into the mix, and throw a bunch of new units out for the existing houses. Some more ranged units would be cool to see in a limited fashion (more specialists perhaps?).

I thought there was mention of one of the island city- states taking a stand and getting involved in the fighting.

I just want to see more, because Wrath of Kings is the closest I think I'm ever going to get to a new version (aesthetically at least) of Confrontation.

Given that retail distribution for this in the EU is almost non-existent, a new KS would be a much easier way for us to get any new stuff.

Horrific monsters. Lots and lots of horrific monsters!

We'll be previewing more upcoming items from our new wave of releases as time goes on, including sculpts, cards, and stories. Note that everything is subject to change, so go a head and tell us what you think!

So, our first preview to showcase: GORBAL THE RAMPAGER!

You make that sound like a bad thing!

As someone who missed out on Confrontation the first time around (school, work, marriage, kids) and currently gobbling up all the old stuff, I am more than happy to see the influence continue to creep in.

I would not be adverse to another Kickstarter. Doubt it will happen, but at least we can finally look forward to seeing some new releases for this game!

CMON 'owns' some form of the rights to Confrontation proper, but I don't know what they've planned for it - if anything.

Until then - Wrath of Kings is what we've got - and that's pretty good!

Ehhh. He's a rank 2 leader so he's eating up a fair amount of force allotment.

And while he can do a lot of damage, he's only an ARM 1; won't be that hard to whittle him down I wouldn't think.

Overall I like him and will add him to my Goritsi eventually. He's on par with other rank 2's and actually looks like he could be a solid boost for a primarily skorza force.

It is also not 2 guaranteed damage based on how damage works

If we were to look at His card (because it is here) Most models hit him on a 7+. If he were fighting himself (just as an example) Unstoppable 1 would have him hitting on a 6+, and if he were wounded it would be a 5+. So on each dice he would be 50% to hit. Which means with his 3 dice against himself he would have an 93.6% chance to hit at least once. Which against resiliance 1 is 1 wound. He has only 21.6% chance of hitting all 3 dice (against himself).

So he is highly likely to cause 1 wound, but not super on 2 or 3 (better than most but not a given). So for a rank 2 leader it is not bad at all.

Exactly.

And I have to say from the dozen or so battle sized games I've played the actual rules are simple and elegant. I would love for this soar but locally it's still all 40k, X-wing, and now Armada. I'm good with two of those (40k and Armada) but wish we could get one smaller skirmish game off the ground.

Yes, there are other abilities that do it for specific types of defenses etc.

I've only played a little myself. Much like you got the starter at NOVA, my wife did a demo of it and loved the simplicity (Malifaux is my current game and she finds it overwhelming). So it will likely become a secondary game for me.

These guys have Rackham proportions. The ratios may be similar to the slop that Mantic puts out but the style and execution put it in a different league.

Very nice!

The Wrath of Kings Sneak Peeks continue with a look at the new Pack Master Kozakar for House Goritsi. Kozakar is a skilled huntsman, usually deploying far in advance of allied forces. Utilizing his unique tracking and pathfinding skills, he can lead other Goritsi units across the battlefield further and faster than they ever could alone. Pack Master Kozakar is an imposing presence on the battlefield, as you can see from his art and figure on an 80mm base, which includes his three pets.

Koazakar is a Rank 1 Character Specialist for Goritsi, and while he has a fairly impressive attack in Tear Asunder, his main use is found in his Pathfinder action, which, based on your successful Will Checks, allows other Goritsi models to sprint closer to his location. This, combined with the fact Kozakar has Infiltrate, allowing him to deploy farther across the battlefield than any other model, and you have a devastating combo for speed. He also has the standard Skorza assortment of Skirmisher and Stalker, meaning Kozakar will never be tied down by the enemy, allowing him to stalk the battlefields and summon forth allies to key locations and positions.

Expect Pack Master Kozakar and the other revealed new units (Gorbal, Brutes and Warsmiths) in Q1 of 2016!

Price seems steep for what you get, but I am interested in those swordsmen guys.

The big Wolfen models are very nice for being in PVC.

I think those are basically the starter sets, minus one unit of infantry and their leaders. I got mine in the Ks though, so a lot may have changed.

The models are nice, I can attest for that. PVC sucks, but they don't need a lot of cleaning, and the detail is quite good. Not like top of the industry good, but like 80-90 percentile. Not many easy options for customization though.

It's half a troop box and a full specialist box for each side. Which is a solid start and I think is the actual intro level force. Essentially the models alone would be $70 so it's a slight discount on the models and you get the rulebook.

But the price point is great for a game when the rest of industry is generally $100+. Plus the rulebook is free for download. And you won't have a bunch of extra useless models if you pick up another faction starter which is nice too.

http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/shell-cracker-previewed-for-wrath-of-kings/

Though I don’t get to have it all that often, I do love seafood. In particular, I love shellfish. However, this is one crustacean that’s just as likely to try and eat me as I am to eat him. A new preview for Wrath of Kings has been posted. It’s the Shell Cracker for Hadross.

The Shell Cracker is sort of a “hermit crab on steroids.” I mean, except for that one video going around the internet recently, you don’t often see crabs armed with knives or swords. The Shell Cracker is a Rank 1 specialist for the faction, so you don’t get that many out on the table. But they are worth their weight out there, getting into position and then hunkering down, daring your opponent to move them.

Literally gives meaning to "when pigs can fly."

I want everything.

EVERYTHING.

Why we have to keep waiting on this stuff CMON? C'mon already!

Hadross gets clams, hermit crab men, fiddler crab men...

Teknes may have that walking chair, but it looks like we'll get two different load outs possibly for the pigbats?

Nasier gets a new character it looks like with a clawed gauntlet, and 2 different flying winged guys?

I see a new skinny Goritsi character (or at least one I don't recognize) hanging out in front of the Desolation Engine.

I know the original discussion was for this all to hit retail- is that still the case? Anyone ask?

I could do another Ancient King pledge if CMON want to go that route...

Nasier also has new big hammer girls next to the smaller winged demon. So they have a new 80mm guy (purple wings), a new commander-looking model on the ridge in the back, the new hammer girls that look like larger pelegarth, and plus the new pelegarth men are for sale at Adepticon for the first time, too. Nasier seems like a clear favorite.

Yeah, the new Hadross stuff is pretty cool.

Should have led off with more crab men than jellyfish guys. Or larger sharks for that matter.

Kind of sad that Goritsi and Shael Han have been left in the dust. At least we know Goritsi has the Packmaster and Rampager coming.

Geez, when you think about just how much stuff is in the pipeline... Nasier have at least 5 or 6 new units, Teknes has at least 3 or 4, Hadross has 4 or 5... that's a lot to let loose all at once on retail.

Somebody has to go find out if there's another Kickstarter brewing!

They keep insisting that it's going to be retail for this (and Dark Age),

although I'd like to see another KS too

but then box games are much simpler to fulfil, and people would probably expect to be able to pick their faction at least (and add on everything individually too)

Supposedly they're adamant on this not getting another Kickstarter (which honestly I'm super happy about, I have a distinct KS fatigue).

Actually... well, let me just say that when they do finally show the Shael Han and Goritsi stuff they have hiding up their sleeves, I have to imagine a lot of people are going to respond very positively. Because they're really, really cool.

While this is temporarily frustrating, and I understand it, you should know that they have also been doing a fair bit of internal restructuring of staff since 4th quarter last year, and it's affected their release schedule and release of information. While that's not a good excuse by any means, it's at least understandable. The board games for their kickstarters have their assets produced by multiple teams literally in multiple countries, but Wrath of Kings (to my understanding) is nearly all internal/central HQ except for the contracted artwork and sculpts. So their personnel changes/issues at HQ actually has had an effect on WoK and Dark Age stuff.

Of note, however, is that they just had a 2-player starter come out for WoK and have made store displays and store demo standees available, so they're just now making the push into retail now that the dust has settled from the original KS.

CMON strikes me as a patient company when it comes to these things; for some people I understand the frustration that makes them feel, but for me personally my every day life is very busy so I'm actually appreciative of a release schedule I can keep up with easily.

Thanks pug.
I don't mind show releases at all its just the lack of communication that I don't care for. The way things are now it looks like the game is dead.
Guess I'll be patient and hope for a big payoff in the end

Those are a lot of new releases for a 'dead game'!

All kidding aside, and after reading Pug's comments above, I just think this is on the same slow release schedule that Dark Age is on, unfortunately.

But I seriously want just about everything they previewed at Adepticon for Hadross and Teknes - and I don't even collect Hadross.

Yet!

I hear you alpharius.
im a teknes guy and am loving what im seeing.
it was a hard choice going teknes over nasier and now it looks like its getting even harder to stay that way.

I wish that theyd do an art book or something.
im jonesing for some official terrain ideas.

Following this thread, I hope I can help with a couple of points.

The new units are going to retail, there are no plans for future Kickstarters.

Some of the new units will be on general retail release on the 26th April. But I wouldn't be supprised if they started finding themselves on shop shelves any time in the next couple of weeks.

These are:
NASIER- ARKIZAN GREATWING BOX
NASIER- PELEGARTH BRUTES BOX
TEKNES- WARSMITHS BOX
TEKNES- WAR STOMPER BOX
GORITSI- CHARACTER BOX #3
--And the 2 player starter set.

So I kept all but Hadross from the Kickstarter for myself. I'm still happy with that decision as I don't love any of the new models except for may the shell dudes.

Out of the 4 I kept Teknes and Shael-Han became my favorites so I'm glad to see one currently getting love. Also I LOVE all the new Teknes models. I'll be keeping an eye out for MM to get them in stock so I can grab a box of each new unit for my armies.

The display was very impressive and quite nice. I do so love WoK and hope it gets bigger and bigger.

Nasier are still my favorite.

Oh hell, who am I kidding, I pretty much liked something from just about every faction.

Hope we do see some Shael Han as well. I thought they were the weakest of the factions in terms of designs. The bathrobes just didn't do it for me.

While I don't love the dragon legion models I do like them enough to overlook it because I love the big guys, characters, and specialists. Also the way they play.

Granted, with flying pigs Teknes may supplant them as my primary force. Especially once they add in the Warsmiths.

Mr. Black showed a buddy and me some really awesome renders of upcoming Shael Han stuff - an elephant, a snake, a bear (all anthropomorphized.) It was all really incredible looking and made me wish I hadn't sold off my Shael Han.

That is some tortuous teasing there my friend.

New Wrath of Kings is probably my most eagerly awaited releases besides seeing what Massive Darkness brings to the table. I have really been wanting to buy some new stuff after going whole hog in the Kickstarter, selling off stuff, and inevitably buying it back again as I impatiently await new models!

If one was to make a guess....I'd wager one could expect each faction to get between 4 to 6 new boxes with Book 2.

If one were to guess...

One could also probably expect it all going straight to retail, with future support focused on narrative campaign and league play...if one were to be in the business of expecting things.

All pure speculation, of course.

Wow, that's a pretty large follow-up. It's going to essentially double the range of every force. I'm excited but I also might actually sell off my Nasier and Goritsi because I think I'm going to want to only focus on Shael-Han and Teknes.

New stuff now available!

http://cmon.com/wok-april-releases/

The battle for the Ancient Kingdom continues in Wrath of Kings as the five Houses of Arikania struggle to be the one that guides the future. In order to secure their place in history, Houses are bringing new forces to the battlefield. At your FLGS now are five new Boxes, including: House Nasier’s Pelegarth Brutes Box and Arkazan Greatwing Box; House Teknes’ Warsmith Box and War Stompers Box; and House Goritsi’s Character Box 3.

The House Nasier Pelegarth Brutes Box includes 2 Brute Wardens and 6 Pelegarth Brutes. The Brutes are a mighty addition to your army, cleaving through your opponent’s armor, flesh and bone with equal ease.

MSRP $34.99

The Arkazan Greatwing Box includes 2 Arkazan Greatwings for your Nasier force. This unit specializes in hunting down and slaying high Resilience targets, all the while casting aside lesser foes that would stand in its way. You’re really going to want the Greatwings on your side of the table.

MSRP $24.99

The House Teknes Warsmith Box contains 1 Warsmith Captain and 8 Warsmith. These women are brilliant soldiers and combat engineers that are more than capable of holding the line alongside their fellow Linemen and Union Troops. Alone, a Warsmith can use her skills to repair or bolster line units, while an entire unit can, effectively, decimate an enemy’s line.

MSRP $34.99

The War Stompes Box contains 2 War Stompers. Capable of crossing a battlefield at great speed, the War Stompers are armed with a variety of technomatic shields and power generators and give House Teknes an extra edge in a variety of situations.

MSRP $19.99

The House Goritsi Character Box 3 contains 1 Kozakar the Packmaster and 1 Gorbal the Rampager! Kozakar is a one “man” army capable of hunting down the largest prey with his pack of vildertosks. And Gorbal is an unstoppable monster that has embraced his outcast state and should be at the forefront of any Goritsi army.

MSRP $34.99

All of these new additions to Wrath of Kings are available at your local retailer and will be coming to the CoolMiniOrNot web store soon.

Yeah, so far it looks like the only ones out are the Nasir Greatwings & Pelegarth Brutes, the Teknes Stompers & Warsmiths, and the Goritsi Characters.

So 5 sku's out of the approximately 25 they've mentioned. We know there are 2 more Hadross specialists. We know there are flying pigs for Teknes. And I'm pretty sure some Characters were noticed at Adepticon but even with that we only know what about 5 more of the sku's are. So that is a massive amount of sku's that we don't know yet what we're getting.

Like Shael-Han!

I'm waiting till everything is out right now outside of the Teknes stuff and anything Shael-Han. I'm going to be cutting 1 more army and I don't know which it'll be yet. Nasir or Goritsi (already cut and sold Hadross).

From the CMoN Expo (via TGN http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/the-future-of-dark-age-and-wrath-of-kings-panel-at-cmon-expo/)

Wrath of Kings

Starting out right quick, we’ve got a look at the cover for Book 2 for Wrath of Kings. This book (which they’re still working on the name) will have new infantry, specialists, and heroes. Not every faction will get the same spread of items, but everyone will be getting the same amount of releases. For example, one might get an extra infantry release, while another might get an extra specialist release. The book will have a reprinting of the rules with minor wording fixes (nothing major. Just a “clean up” of the rules). The book is expected for a Gen Con release (so we’ll hopefully see you at that show!).

The stat cards will also be available online when the book is released.

Also getting prepped for Gen Con is a Wrath of Kings Card Pack. It will have all the stat cards in the game, plus extra cards that will cover the basic motivations and objectives. A couple stat cards will also get a wording clean-up as well as a few “quality of life” changes for certain models.

There will be six releases for each faction (totaling 30 new releases). The first several of these releases are already available as of this month.

The next releases will be in August/September and include one box for Goritsi, and two boxes for Hadross and Shael Han.

The Pit Fighters. They’re an expansion of the Carcarians forces, but full of all sorts of “dirty tricks.”

Following Gen Con, there will be a rotating schedule of two boxes per month, so in a 3-month period, everyone will get something.

Celestials. Shael Han is summoning these fellows in. It’s a Zodiac-inspired force.

In terms of organized play, there will be a Wrath of Kings campaign coming later this year. From there on, they hope to have a Campaign each year, with possible tie-ins to what will be coming in future books. The Campaign will be giving you the chance to use character-versions of the generic specialists for the different factions. Then, as you play, that character will be able to level up, being able to become higher rank characters, gaining special, new abilities that you can choose from, so no two player’s characters will always end up the same.

There are also two Organized Play Packs that are being finalized. They will have such things as promo minis, special art postcards, pins, tokens, objective markers, and possibly other cool items like that.

Another thing in the works is expanding the environmental feel of the game. There will be more art pieces showing off various cities and the lands of Arikania. Along with that, they are looking into coming out with official terrain for the game.

Spoiler added as the images are huge!
Spoiler:

Shael Han Celestials

Hadross Pit Fighters

Don't forget this gem. He was just hanging out on top of the vendor area shelf on display this past weekend at the CMON Expo, and I could only get smiles and winks out of folks when I asked them about it. It's the size of a Warmachine Colossal / GW Knight Titan, though. Definitely needs something like a 120mm base, and my guesstimate is this is the first of the Rank 3 things we will see.

Also of note, in a conversation with the game's designer, Wrath of Kings is a game designed around purposefully not using things that are common in other games, like ranged weapon templates or blast templates. The move to create flying troops that can get across enemy lines to more sensitive targets as opposed to creating more ranged weaponry is absolutely deliberate.

Aren't all of the Goritsi wolves, werewolves? I mean not trying to be a smartass, Goritsi aren't really my thing, so I've not paid them much attention.

Honestly I adore the sharkmen, and I really love their aesthetic. To each their own! I will definitely be working on a Hadross army made up of sharks and shellfish once they're available.

Same thing could be said for CMON and Dark Age.

Both have great models with pretty unique designs, but are a pain to find other people to play.

Personally I like the line, but I've got all the original stuff from the Kickstarter and they've been very slow doling out new releases.

I couldn't agree with that statement anymore as I dig Dark Age very much. But, it is next to impossible to find people who play the game and it's just as hard to grow a community when they are already a ton of established out on the market right now.

Organized Play – Our New OP Kits!

//July 29th, 2016 admin

Back in May, at the CMON Expo, we talked about the Organized Play (or OP) kits we were planning for Wrath Of Kings. Well, we are ver happy to announce that Aaron and the lovely folks at Battle Bin are currently packing up our OP kits, and they’ll be delivered to us just after Gencon. We are very excited!

THE CONTENTS OF THE TWO WRATH OF KINGS OP KITS

We have two OP Kits for Wrath Of Kings – Kit #1 and Kit #2 – so that we can switch up a few things in the kits to add variety to your prizes in-store. Once we know the rate we’ll be going through the OP kits, we’ll be able to better plan more variety, but we think these are starting out pretty well.

IN EVERY KIT:

In both of the kits you will find:

WOK_Pins

• 10 x 1″ pins – we have 2 pins for each of the 5 factions in Wrath Of Kings.

WOK_Certificates_Flat

• 3 Certificates of Victory. These can be personalized by the Event Organizer to recognize any sort of achievement from the event.

SPECIFIC TO A KIT:

These items are found in either Kit #1 OR Kit #2

WOK_Heart_Tokens

• 12 Heart/Wound tokens – the same as those used in our Arcadia Quest boardgame (Kit #1)

WOK_Markers

• 12 Morale tokens from Battle Bin – these can be used to keep track of your army’s Morale during a game (Kit #2)

WOK_PostcardPack1_flat

• Three packets of 5 Art Cards, featuring the concept art from a few of our favorite factions (Kit #1)

WOK_PostcardPack2_Flat
[img]
• Three packets of 5 Art Cards, feathttp://wrathofkings.com/ks/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/WOK_PostcardPack2_Flat.jpg[/img]uring art of battles and characters of the world of Arikania (Kit #2)

WOK_OPCards1_Flat

• One Organized Play Card (in a pack of 12), this card is designed for use specifically in Organized Play events (Kit #1)

WOK_OPCards2_Flat

• One Organized Play Card (in a pack of 12), this card is designed for use specifically in Organized Play events (Kit #2)

So there you have it. They’ve been a long time coming, but after Gencon, they’ll be in our warehouse and ready to send out into the world. Please let your friends, gaming buddies, clubs, and local stores know about these. We’ll post again once they are available.

hopefully this will increase the presence of WoK in US game stores (and thus increase the amount of stuff CMON can make for it)

Yeah, I am loving this game. Got myself the 2-player starter, goritsi starter, core book, and have done some good trades here for this game. I love the mechanic. IT is scratching the skirmish itch greatly, I want to see more for it as well!

For an unboxing, I had hoped to see some figures.

At least I got a chance to see some of the new units!

Giant bloody gladiator pandas for me please! Especially since Marrow seems like they won't be getting around to the Journey panda any time soon...

Wrath of Kings

Our apologies, Arikanians. We've been fairly quiet of late. We've been hard at work, wrapping up projects, preparing for new projects, and trying to get things squared away. The two main things that we'd like to announce today, however, are:

1) Following some family health issues, our UK distributor (for Dark Age and Wrath of Kings) will not be able to continue in that role past October. Our sales director is working hard to find us a new distributor in the UK. We have contact details and are arranging meetings, and hope to have something sorted out and great news to announce in the next month or so. We thank all UK-based Arikanians for your patience.

2) We are returning to the Beasts of War studios! Bryan and Dave are heading over to talk with the guys next week. The bulk of their recording will be videos for a Wrath of Kings Week and following series, they'll also be filming a few new Dark Age vids (our Sci-Fi skirmish game). Should be a great time!

Have a great weekend : )

Well, it has been a bit quiet in here, but, here's some news:

The January Releases Are Here!
January 13th, 2017 admin

The Celestial Gatekeepers and Tricksters have been much anticipated, the models are wonderful, and their rules make them exciting additions to Shael Han armies across Arikania. These are the first of the Shael Han units from the Wrath of Kings: Rising Conflicts book to be released.

To find these releases in the CoolMiniOrNot webstore, simply click on their names in the post below.

Celestial Gatekeepers (2)

Stalwart and powerful, the Celestial Gatekeepers are tireless guardians of Shael Han’s holy places. They have been summoned to the battlefield to protect all of the House’s territories as a whole, sprinting forward blindingly fast to crush foes in their armor-shattering jaws.

Highly detailed plastic miniatures
This box of Rank 1 Specialists are a great addition to any Shael Han force.
The Celestial Gatekeepers are excellent guardians and will be best used escorting Leaders or important units to their targets.

Box contains: two (2) Celestial Gatekeeper models, two (2) 50mm bases, and their Wrath of Kings unit cards.

WOK03012 Celestial Tricksters (2)

The laughing children of misdirection and malicious pranks, the Celestial Tricksters of House Shael Han use magical manipulation and illusionary influences to slay their enemies with madness and frustrating lunacy.

Highly detailed plastic miniatures
This box of Rank 1 Specialists are a great addition to any Shael Han force.
The Celestial Tricksters are maliciously mischievous and use their Will-based attacks to cause opponents to strike themselves or others, and to lead enemy models around the table against their wishes.

Box contains: two (2) Celestial Trickster models, two (2) 30mm bases, and their Wrath of Kings unit cards.

Hadross looks pretty good. I hope they have a battle report with them to show them in action.

They also did one for Shael Han

I'm really intrigued by this faction, as its the more strategic army. Its built for synergy between units, as you can buff soldiers without using inspire, and they tend to work well in groups.
Looking at the rules for Legionaries, it seems that by themselves they aren't great, but they begin to shine when in range of a leader and in a combined activation.
How big are the models? Its not clear. Is it 30mm scale?

It's 32mm, I think.

I play Shael Han, and they're tons of fun working with the buffs between units. For example, I usually keep a two-deep line of Dragon Legionnaires with a Keeper and a Shield of Taelfon. Wince you get to pick Defensive Enlightenments after the results of the attack have been generated, you get to choose your buff between the leader or the specialist to suit the situation. So they're an incredibly tough defensive line, especially with their own Healing Vapors ability.

Seeing this thread reminded me that i have box full och the complete kickstarter range in my cellar.

Some of my favorites designs ever and the miniatures looks so good on the store and videos.

And it makes me sad, because i think they must be quality resin casts.

Because the plastic version you get is not this sharp and detailed and it makes it really not fun to paint for me.

Really sad about this:(

Good designs like these deserve high quality metal or resin casts! And its really sad to showcase the resin master cast in the store when its not what you are getting in my opinion.

I have a hard time getting over it still........

The restic plastics actually were pretty detailed and hold paint well. I wouldn't judge the minis too much until you slap some paint on them. I've seen several armies fully painted, and they turned out display quality (a bit cartoony, but that's the style).

Yeah, they are okey i guess..
I just had really high hopes, i was looking at this as the new confrontation by rackham.
They were miniatures with such quality that you were proud of every single one. Since wrath of kings had some of the same artists as rackham had, i thought this was it! My new thing to fall in low with.
Its probably my fault more then anything. I should have known when they said it was plastic. But it was my first kickstarter.
I have painted a few, but it is just not the same....
I cant paint them with pleasure...
Rackham miniatures used to be all over forums, coolminiornot, painting competitions etc, but these you dont see anywhere, seems like no pro painter get exited by these.

I still disagree. I feel the plastics are pretty good for what they use, what they cost, and the designs they use. Compare Relic Knights' first releases, Mantic's Deadzone 1.0, or any other similar restic figures and I think you'll find a big difference. It becomes much more apparent when you start looking at larger figures as well.

Far as I can tell, there really is NOTHING like what Wrath of Kings brings to the table design- wise. It's a very unique, very Rackham (obviously) style. I'm just happy they're continuing to support it.
I'd much rather continue purchasing unique looking figures that are reasonably priced for a material that can actually survive being played with. Especially if you have kids around.
Hadross gets a lot of love in my home. Nobody else puts out fishmen quite like what they've got!

I would suggest looking at some of the post- Kickstarter figures for a faction that interests you. There's been some very nice releases.

Oh yeah for sure they are better then relic knights and such, but when you compare them to a high quality resin cast the gap is the same in the other way.
But i am 90% painter and collector and 10% gamer so this affects my emotions alot.
It would be my dream for them to recast everything in resin or metal and i would gladly pay double the price.
As you said the design is truley unique and every faction is different. I Still check out the releases och save the images to my wrath of kings folder because i love the designs so much.
In my opinion they went for the gamer more so then the collector and painter.
It just make no sense to me when they had such great artist that are known for quality.
It reminds me when rackham went to pre painted plastics and suffered the consequences.
But i respect that you guys and others may have different opinions. If somebody keeps buying them maybe they could re-release those resin versions they had of a few miniatures pre-kickstarter.

It was not that they just went to prepainted plastics, they completely changed the game. That can do you more harm than the miniatures changing. GW used to have some of the worst models on the market in their old days (I still think that everything but their hobbit/lotr line is pure trash) I believe fully that CMON is targeting gamers over painters with WoK.

I saw this game at Adepticon this year and I was impresed by the look of the models. Very unique. However, i had already spent as much as I was willing and wanted to check the LGS. The LGS has basically every game that isn't dead on their shelves and they have been around for a long time. Wrath of Kings was on one small shelf on the back wall - this shelf was also low to the ground. To me that means that game is just about dead (at least in my area). i also asked one of the people that worked there about it. He said that he had bought a starter, but opened it up and was so disappointed with the quality of the models, that he packed it right back up and sold it in the net store auction. He said that the model quality was worse than the Reaper Bone line. This is what has prevented me from buying anything from the line. I spend most of my time painting and very little time playing the games, so I really can't make a leap into a game like this. They really missed the boat on this. Really great idea and design, but if only they made them out of metal...

Saw them too at Adepticon. Really nice looking and great paint job. Like you, much more modeling for me than game playing. Not sure about the quality of the models, but support and quantity of the fluff I a driver for me. GW and Privateer have a great universe they created. The industry is hard to crack- just look at At-43, Confrontation, a lot of the Spartan stuff, the original WarZone, etc.

i don't understand that at all personally.
I've put together a teknes starter and several special characters and found the quality to be great.
there was almost no flash at all and the models were designed in a way that hid the joints quite nicely.

i hope you take a closer look because the models that i have seen are great.

I've said it many times (in this thread even) the models really hold up pretty well.

I'm a blah painter, and if I'm able to bring out lots of little details, they can't be that bad.

Certainly far better than some of the earlier restic lines such as Relic Knights or Deadzone 1E.

Also with Wrath of Kings, the bigger the figure, the stronger the details- but that hold true for a lot of larger figures.

Newer releases have also improved on what came before, so keep that in mind. The new Shael Han animal generals look quite nice.

Are all the figures resin? Or metal? Or resin/metal?

Not a big fan of metal after many drops of metal Slaan on Palanquins, Kroxigor and Skink units.

Edit: Never mind the question above. I just read they were plastic. Shows a little homework on your own might go a long way lol.

I think the minis are good quality, but I like Bones and Finecast, so my judgement is questionable. Still, the Fulung Devourer is such a great mini I'll eventually get a second one. My only complaint about WoK minis is that they are all based on artwork by that one French artist who makes everything distorted on purpose. If you flip through the AT-43 books, he made all the ugly paintings. Because of him, the Fulung Devourer looks like it has a goiter.

the Shael Han are alot of fun, they do a lot of synergy with their folks, but the Fulung devourer is a blast to have on the table I love the single mini at a time (or order a group) mechanic, that keeps it really a skirmish in my mind. The game does scale up very easy too. AoS could have learned a lot from these guys.

They do have some neat stuff coming out as well. The starter has some good solid units. The wrath are among my favorites, especially when I back them with a fulung
