yeah, I've already started on the rough outline of it, but I'm gonna need a lot of time to do this, and some TNT wouldn't hurt either, especially to just mark out the starting crater.
Hey Alf, there was a creeper in your place when I got back from mining out underneath. It blew up your first-floor stairs but I fixed 'em. Dunno how the little bastard got in there. All the doors were shut.

That's weird as hell... I wonder if there is a dark spot in my place... I've had a few zombies spawn and catch me off guards, and I've seen endermen (though they teleported in).
am I correct to assume the 'basement' is the level from which you want things removed?

Why am I all of a sudden under assault by creepers? This seems weird. The entire construction of my tower and I had 1 creeper attack, now 2 in 1 day...
yeah, I found enough in your chests to repair the damage after posting my other message. You will see the channel I cut as soon as you hit the basement. I assume I'm doing it right

yup, I saw it, now that I have a "hole" to the sky, I'm just going to start opening things up. It's going to be a long process.

I have a server with 1GB ram and is at 47% memory usage. Do you think this will be enough to run a Minecraft server with 0-4 people? At most it will have 1-2 players at any given time, maybe three. Dondrekhan is being weird about using the Dakka server, so I'm looking into making one.
I was playing with the snapshot last night. Even if you ignore the new biomes (I actually only managed to spot two new ones in the time I had), the world generation (hills, valleys, mountains etc) just seems much more varied again.
No more, "this is a plains, so it's all flat, then - there's an extreme hills biome, bam! y=100".
I'm as of yet undecided on what to do for the server come 1.7. If we stick with the current world, all the new terrain will only be in new chunks and there will be the "cliffs of version change" at the boundaries.
The last world reset we had was for the 1.0 release and I copied a lot of people's structures over to the new world. As "fun" as all that work was, I think I would be willing to do it again if it was necessary.
However, they're also putting a lot of work into the mod api behind the scenes, so it is impossible to predict what will happen or be possible over the coming months. For all we know they could have time travel in by 1.7 :-)
This is just the very first snapshot, I think for now it's best to just "wait and see" what happens before we worry about things like world resets.
Ian Sturrock wrote: Could it be easier to generate a new world, and 'drop' a load of interesting new biomes from it into the existing server...?
That's a bit more diffcult, given that biomes have specific characteristics besides blocks. Aspects such as grass shade, water shade, "temperature", weather type, specific mob spawns (see horses, mooshrooms) and who knows what else they'll tie to biomes in the coming updates.
Ma55ter_fett wrote: I dunno dark, you'd have a hell of a time copy and pasteing my place into a new world.
Yours is actually the easiest, it's so big that it's just a chunk level copy from bedrock to skylimit, and it is (or was) pretty square and self contained. It's the small but sprawling, scattered, odd shaped buildings that are annoying.
Yes I could copy an entire biome, I didn't say it would be impossible, just a lot more work. And it would probably be difficult to keep it from having square edges, because as far as I know MCEdit doesn't have a "free/draw select" option. Either way, it would be a lot of work for something that would end up looking rather rubbish.
However, I can't stress this enough. This is the first snapshot of what will be months of development. Let's at least hold off on any rash decisions for now.
Wyrmalla wrote: I take it that any new server would be using the same dynamic map that's used on the FtB server?
Right now, I doubt it. It requires Forge to hook into to grab the live stuff. However, there's no telling how far along the mod api will be by the time 1.7 is released, so who knows if there will be a vanilla compatible Dynmap (or if Overviewer will be able to make use of a mod api to do similar magic).
Absolutionis wrote: I heard that Quartz was a thing now. I guess it's rare in the Dakka Nether because most of everything within reach has been generated long before?
You do have to travel out a bit, but not too far and when you do, it's not really rare. Add a fortune pick and it certainly seems possible to build large with Quartz.

Now, in completely unrelated news, and coming from a conversation I had in-game last night, I have decided to add a new rule to the server.
It really is a shame (and slightly ridiculous) it has come to this, but here is the new rule, taking effect immediately from the time of this post:
If you moan, whinge, whine or complain about having to gather resources and/or create or build things in this game called Minecraft, perhaps this particular game is not for you and I reserve the right to ban you without any other reason.
Now I might be blind to any downside to this rule, so if anyone has any legitimate reasons against this rule let me know.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Cross posting this addition from the FTB thread for further clarification:
There is quite a difference between "I will" and "I reserve the right to". For example, I'm not going to ban someone for saying "Oh man, I have to go to the nether again!". This is mainly about the whining, particularly the persistent offenders. Most of you are well aware just how patient I am, so if I've never told you personally to stop moaning, you probably have nothing to worry about.
Some_Call_Me_Tim? wrote: Why the heck would someone complain about having to build stuff? The whole POINT of Minecraft is building stuff!
~Tim?
The building stuff is fun... the gathering stuff I can deal with in waves. I know I did some complaining about netherrack pages back, but when I get the itch to play minecraft again, I'll be back, mining it again so I can finish my planetarium.
Admittedly, mining is a chore, but it can be fun at times. I, personally, work in nice cycles where I get in the mood to explore/mine/horde stuff and the get bored and go into a planning/building phase. I end up taking breaks from the game if I stay in the planning/building phase for too long with not enough materials.
I was wondering if Darknnit will ever implement command blocks to our server. I've played with them and find them quite entertaining. Would be quite cool to have it when I build my labyrinth with monsters and a radius to ensure mob griefing only affects a certain area. Same with keep inventory
Hmn, portal updates, but I guess the Ftb root of adding linking books to them so as one might better designate which portal goes where isn't on the dev's agenda. It would seem that they're aiming to have a decent amount of content in 1.7, though its still little steps until the game has the amount of content that some of the mod packs provide.

They are trying. I really like that they are making dyes more renewable. Now if only they could do that with string
I automatically updated to 1.6.4 and now I can't get on the server. :( Oh I heard you have to update all the chunks on you map so you don't have biome changes and stuff like that for 1.7. Does this mean we get a new map now, or shall we make a point of walking about the whole map loading chunks?

Slow down der.
This patch is mainly about structures, like nether fortresses, carrying across to 1.7 correctly when it is eventually released. I haven't heard anything about biomes. https://mojang.com/2013/09/minecraft-snapshot-13w37a/
I wouldn't bother walking about the map loading chunks. If it's necessary I can run a tool to do it when it's necessary.
I want to re-iterate this next point. 1.7 is a loooonng way off. These snapshots are just that, development snapshots. They're also only the first ones and there's been huge changes under the hood, there's going to be a load of bugs to sort out. 1.7 won't come out for months. Calm down about the world resets people and enjoy 1.6, it's still new!
P.S. You can edit your profile to go back to 1.6.2, just click Edit Profile and choose 1.6.2 from the "Use version" drop down box.

I did try this out, but sadly any attempts at "to scale" builds are difficult because the scale had to be adjusted to fit Minecraft's limits. Emphasis mine:
Each blocks represents a ground area of 50 square metres. The raw height data is stored in metres and must be scaled down to fit within the 256 block height limit in Minecraft. A maximum height of 2 500 metres was chosen, which means Ben Nevis, appears just over 128 blocks high. Although this exaggerates the real-world height, it preserves low-lying coastal features such as Bournemouth's cliffs, adding interest to the landscape.

If no one knows, any ideas how I can find out?

I don't give it out, but even if I did, you wouldn't get the same world, as different areas of the world have been generated by different versions of the game (1.0-1.6). So generating it again now would likely get different results.
I reluctantly ask, does anyone know if the XBox 360 version is going to get bigger worlds? They recently made them twice as tall. I'm sure millions of gamers will be raving about that, but I was quite put out; what does having twice as much thin air achieve?
The Pre-release is out and the full release of 1.7 is currently scheduled for this Friday. Thanks for the short notice Mojang!
However, there are always minor updates shortly after the first release (i.e. we are currently on 1.6.4) and there's also been so many major changes to the underlying code that I'd prefer to wait at least a few days for the inevitable patches before updating the server.
Now, on to the more pressing subject, "the update that changed the world". This update brings major changes to the biome generation. In order to get access to the new biomes people would either have to travel at least 2000 blocks from spawn, or, we could reset the world.
If we were to stick with the existing world, I would probably set up at least two command block "teleporters" for quick travel between the normal spawn and the new terrain. The downside to this is that it's just a bit messy, a bigger world size for backups etc and the map would still center on the original spawn. However, it would be just two minutes work for me and everyone's stuff is still there without me doing anything.
If we were to reset the world, I would copy across any structures that people want preserving, just as I did when we reset the world for Minecraft 1.0 (also allowing people to choose where they want to go). The downside to this (well, for me) is that I have to spend a lot of time doing that. The downside for you people is the short notice that Mojang have given - if some people are away for the next week or so, they might miss a chance to get their stuff copied (I might open up a "second chance", later for copying any structures that got left behind). However, the server would have a fresh new spawn and a new Nether (Quartz!), new End (Dragon!) and it would be a good fresh start.
I'm still thinking this over, but I'd like your opinions too, so...
However! I reserve the right to overrule the vote if, say, I think the server demands of maintaining the existing world to be too high (disk space, backups, map size, etc), or if I think the personal time and effort involved in copying structures in a reset would be too much, etc etc.
I say reset, if you could copy my house somewhere by wherever Noobboomb's place ends up going. If it could be on a hill surrounded by water, that'd be doubly cool.
I voted for a reset. However, because of the new end, shall I dismantle the ender grinder and keep the materials for a new one whenever there is a need for it again? I'm thinking an updated, more efficient farm than eve before!
I've stripped most of my stuff too Dark, so you won't have to copy a lot over.
I'm voting for a reset too, whilst I have fond memories of this current world I feel the new biomes, easy quartz access and various other things outweighs my personal attachment to the world as it stands. Not to mention making the Nether walkways easier to navigate...
I would love for a reset. But Alas. I will lose my villager area, and my entire cities will be gone... As long as I get my 150 diamonds and 2595 iron ignots... Unless I can just place all my stuff as blocks XD. Actually.... .
But yeah reset. I will miss my horses I spent a long time getting them together. And also I have an underground complex.... I would really like to save that.
Don't make the same mistake. never use glass in the Nether. And I think more than an overall plan for the full Nether system, if we simply figured out a single tunnel and intersection style, we'd at least be able to have it look right.
I'm partial to the 3-wide 3-tall tunnels where the center of the walls are the iron bars- it works well with the Nether Fortresses.
Automatically Appended Next Post: @ Ian
Dark'll just have to find you a new Ravine complex.
Or maybe you could re-locate Chasmholm to a Clay Mesa biome! That'd be pretty neat to have a Dwarven city carved into the multi-colored cliff faces.
Yeah, pretty much *all* the 5-6 massive ravines are now 'finished' with dressed stone galleries & so on, though, and joined with similar corridors and hallways. Dark'd need to transfer sections that in some cases go from just above bedrock to slightly above the clouds. Just sounds like a lot of extra work for him.
All items & persistent entities (i.e. any passive mobs such as horses, villagers, sheep, etc) within a structure would be copied over.
I'm not going to go emptying people's chests, it doesn't make sense and I just wouldn't have time.
Ian Sturrock, I shall do a "feasibility study" of your ravines :-P
I'm going to leave the survey running until this evening and then will let you all know my decision. Yeah it's a short time for the survey, but the update is also short notice and I need to make a decision soon
I started building all my stuff because of the lay of the land on the server. The wall blocks the only land-based entrance, there's a nice island for a castle, and a river acting as a natural border along which I can place watchtowers.
Copying my structures across is pointless unless there's an identical area on the new server, and copying an entire area over is bound to be more trouble than it's worth.
But then, generating the new terrain is going to be a PITA.
For the nether I was thinking along the lines of circles that I did for my own nether hub with branch offs from it. I have plans to NOT use quartz as it is a complete pain to gather enough of it to build what I am planning.
Having just given the Snapshot a whirl, the textures seem all a bit weird and Cartoony... Is this just for me or has anyone else tried it and noticed it?
Would there be a way to not copy over someones structures (if, say, the structures are really terrain-dependent) but also make sure that the person that built them wouldn't lose all their bricks? Or is that not doable?
Some_Call_Me_Tim? wrote: Would there be a way to not copy over someones structures (if, say, the structures are really terrain-dependent) but also make sure that the person that built them wouldn't lose all their bricks? Or is that not doable?

dismantle everything into a few chests inside a small house, then ask dark to copy that over?
Bloodhorror wrote:Having just given the Snapshot a whirl, the textures seem all a bit weird and Cartoony... Is this just for me or has anyone else tried it and noticed it?
It's probably either that you've clicked the "Super Secret settings" button in the options menu and enabled a cartoony filter, or that the new mipmapping and/or anti-aliasing render settings look strange to you. See Seth Bling's demonstration of all those things in this video here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=bnv7wI-7jGE#t=96 You can press F4 to disable the Super Secret settings quickly.
IHateNids wrote:also, as far as the Nether is concerned, what is to happen with our portals?
Portals would be copied over in structures, but wouldn't link to a corresponding portal in the nether. When someone first uses one, it would create a new portal in the new nether. The next person to use one might end up linking to that first person's portal (if they are too close), so portals would have to be linked using Minecraft's standard divide by 8 method.

That's one option, but I might consider re-imbursing those who have truly terrain dependent builds (like Ian Sturrock, Avatar, etc). I'll think about it.
Anyway, on to the results of the survey:
Looks rather decisive and I'm in agreement despite the work involved.
The world will be reset for 1.7.1 (or whatever number they're up to by the time of release )
I'll set up a separate thread for structure requests soon, I'll post in this thread with a link to it when I'm ready. I will probably also do the creative-mode-free-for-all-mayhem thing like last time, but not yet, so don't go all crazy smashing up the place just yet...
will you be providing an early map preview like you did for the FTB reset? I am not sure what the new 1.7 biomes are nor what they look like, plus i might see a cool spot on the map that i might want to be plunked down into.
As the new launcher now allows for easy swapping between Minecraft versions using profiles, I am considering setting up a temporary version of the new world, for people to join, explore and pick a spot. I'd still have the map too, for people who aren't inclined for messing about with profiles.
Once I'd finished getting copies of everyone's structures, I would then take down the 1.7 world, paste in the structures where requested (in the meantime people could switch back to 1.6 for creative mayhem on the old server) and once done, bring it up again.
This would also allow people to switch between 1.6.4 and 1.7 to double check the size/shape of their structure and their chosen spot.
I would probably have to set a deadline to prevent indecisive people taking too long to pick a spot though
I'll still also allow people to request "surprise me" choices for their locations, like "any plains biome" etc.
I worked a little bit on what my plans are for the nether hub. I threw together a few different schemes that may be nice. Feel free to say if you don't like them and tell me which one you like the best. I believe the circle is 52 blocks in diameter, which is more than big enough to make a few smaller circles around it to have rails to people's houses. EDIT: Image was broken. Great, now the image is too small.
Hopefully clay, considering it would be in the Nether and all.
That would be an awesome Nether Spawn Hub.
Something to remember- Nether portals can now be different shaped! So you can have 3 block wide portals!
Yeah, avoid circular pathways in the nether if you can, though. Straight shot tunnels, or branching tunnels, seem like they would work the best. And that way, people don't really get lost- and you can always say "Meet me at the HUB".
I think -hopefully- with more people set up for this we can make the nether neater, with say 4 primary tunnels going in the 4 main directions and people's tunnels going in straight lines from them to portals.
saves alot of getting lost and confusing directions.
Ooh, I like that idea. Keep things nice and neat. Especially if we actually mark the cardinal directions, so we can give simple instructions for movement.
We should determine a base level for the portals as well, since it's only xz coords, not y, that matter for portal matching.
Thanks Dark. Can we have a week or two's notice, at least, whatever happens? I'm assuming that even in a best-case scenario I'll lose something, so I'd quite like to have a go at recording a Let's Play of me just wandering round my stuff.
Most people are probably going to have to sort their stuff out a bit- I know I do. I hope that the Sanctuary from the pre 1.0 world makes it over again.

Consider this your week's(-ish) notice (No guarantees on dates yet).
Please try to get your requests in there ASAP. I know it's short notice, so I will probably do a "second chance" round a bit later on, but that's still no reason to slack off on it, or someone might take a good spot you want!
If people want me to, once the server starts. I will increase the roofed forest I am in, I will just need help spreading it. Taking it into deserts, plains, savanna's etc.
The wood it has is dark chocolate brown. Its quite cool.
Now for there to be a double oak tree. :/ (As should birch.)
Spruce has one... Jungle has one...
And 1.8 will be about mobs (By the way, red sand, red glass, red wood.... Maybe Red Dragons? Starting the rumor mill here but a few new mobs 'might' be added. Maybe mummies? Who knows only time will tell )
Here is a close up of the red clay quarter of the circle. I really like this one the best and I have a fair amount of quartz currently to do the job of finishing it. The portal is also nice and tall which I think is nice too. Should the hub be a cylinder, or should we make the top of it a sphere?
I want a three wide portal but I couldn't find a template for a circle with uneven numbers. I'll find one though and use that for the actual nether hub.
Thanks a lot for that picture! I think a hemisphere would be hard work and I can easily get it wrong, but if we make it a cylinder, we could put multiple tiers so nether routes to people's house don't criss-cross.
i think a sphere would be cool, have the portals on the middle level of it. the top could be crafting smelting and the lower farming. make the hub sort of a nether shelter.
Can someone get on and help me fetch my cats from Lazuli Bay? Just need someone to get them with a snowball while I'm at the place I'm going to be moving to the new map.
Melissia wrote: Can someone get on and help me fetch my cats from Lazuli Bay? Just need someone to get them with a snowball while I'm at the place I'm going to be moving to the new map.
You think that's far away? From my normal home, going through the nether, it takes the length of an extended potion of speed to reach Lazuli Bay. That's eight minutes. Multiply that by eight for the travel in realspace
Just manually updated. Annoyingly, it seems I now have two seperate versions of Minecraft on my pc. v1.5 and v1.7.
What are the most interesting things people have built?
I used to play on my university's Gaming Society server, and the very first thing I did was wander off over the horizon over 3km from the spawn point, crossed an ocean and found a large deserted island that I claimed. I then built a huge tower as high as the clouds, a large mountain base complete with crop farms and a mob farm (gave me huge quantities of TNT), and a diving board structure that extended from cloud level all the way down a hold in the ground to bed rock level.
And then I decided I wanted a shortcut back to the spawn point and the rest of civilisation, so I built a secret monorail tunnel that extended from my island underground and under the 3km of ocean at bedrock level all the way back to the spawn zone, to a hidden exit that I built in the basement of a friend's house. Sadly, the monorail depended on exploiting the old minecart collision booster glitch, and the entire monorail system was broken when it was fixed and replaced with rail booster tracks.
The new launcher supports profiles. So if you start the launcher and click to create a new profile, you can specify which version of Minecraft that profile should run.
I'd go into depth on it but I'm sure there's plenty of tutorials out there, hopefully some aren't all videos with someone wanting to spend more time showing you their fancy desktop...
How are achievements being handled? Announcing them whenever anyone receives one may be annoying considering that, at least in previous versions, they reset with every login.
Ooh, and sound packs. ...finally. Stained glass gets me all giddy too. How often do witches tend to spawn however, as the wording from that link infers they'll do so along with common mobs at night.
Also, being a picky git, who's Dav320K? As I don't remember (not the same as not) giving you permission to move into Janje2's old place. Just saying... =P

Acheivements are now stored per world, so they don't get reset every time you so much as glance sideways at the launcher. So yes, the first few days, it's gonna be reeeaal annoying seeing everyone getting "Opened Inventory" and "Got wood" etc, but once the flood has passed, they should be a lot less frequent and might even provoke "Congrats" etc. From what I've heard, you can turn them off, but I haven't yet found out if that's just server side or a personal preference client side.
Who's Dav320K? No idea? Not on the whitelist, unless it's a Dakka name or alt?
And custom ones may be added by server admins on a whim too right? Hmn, some obscure activities could randomly spark achievements if they weren't too difficult to implement...
They've plastered signs all over Janje's place, removed the railway tracks and emptied out all the chests. I did say that the chests were fair game (which every one, bar one brimming with fireworks that Darkinnit added, has been emptied), but nothing else was to be touched, so it does leave me feeling a little prissy. Still its moot now that the server's being wiped.
Still, I might take a look when I get a chance. It is tantamount to griefing if they leave no explanation. Signs with a name nobody knows are a bit redundant.
I can save some of that effort. Dav320K is my mate, who should have got minecraft aeons ago. I said he could have Janje's house after discussing with Wyrm, then placed the sign on Janje's nether Portal.
I merely did not get around to taking it down upon hearing he hasn't got Minecraft yet.
Also, I thought the Railways were fair game as well. If required they can be returned in the 1.7 server, as I still have them and as of yet no use for them.
So its basically my fault for it all, and I humbly apologise.
Ah right, forgetfulness. I read a name I didn't know and it didn't cross my mind that you said your friend was wanting to live there. Meh, just no blowing anything up was the guideline I think.=P
So wait, why has someone built three fething GIGANTIC SWASTIKAS in one of the villages Iustis and I claimed and near the other? Is this some fething troll doing this?
And there's a goddamned death camp, too?
I hope someone gets banned over this. What the actual feth is wrong with you people?
The house next to it appears to be the spawn and last known location of Trenchraider... who seems to be wearing an SS uniform...
Oh wait no. It's just Hitler.
I mean, I think, as long as people do understand just how serious tragedies like the Holocaust were, making fun and joking about horrors is the best way to help the memories of them heal.

I was waiting for someone else to notice. Dark already knows; I PMed him about it a few hours ago. Thought it best not to make it public.
But even if that were true, that's not excuse for trying to take over one of the villages we've claimed and TURNING IT IN TO A fething NAZI DEATHCAMP. Gas chamber included.
Sleitusmithr: If you need any help just ask. Though I doubt I can help much. I'm doing much the same as you, myself.

Really, can we quit with the nazi imagery (those are at least the third instance of me seeing a swastika on the server)and gratuitous German. Even if its meant as some kind of humour, its just crass.
At first i laughed then. I realized that was on our server.... And someone actually spent the time to build that... That eriely looks like the camp in band of brothers. And Now I have to throw up.
Anyone wanna join me in TNT the crap out of it?
First place to nuke.... Damn thats just.... Sick. Even in a game.....
Thats just glorification of the regime.....
Well. That makes me sick.
I'm kind of interested in what the signs say.... I kind of wanna grief it as soon as possible. (you know when we are allowed to)
Make sure you have all your inventories/chests consolidated, animals moved within requested areas etc.
I will still accept structure copy requests after that point, but they will be copied from that point in time.
I'll then be enabling creative mode for all players with the following rules:
* Don't destroy other people's stuff without their permission - some people are still doing farewell screenshots/videos etc - it's not nice to interrupt them when there's not been a lot of notice on this.
* Don't go flying off generating massive amounts of new terrain, it'll just lag the server and all that terrain is getting reset anyway.
Meanwhile, in 1.7.2, terrain generation is absolutely beautiful. Another reason to live in the Savanna. This is my Hardcore World that I made sometime last year and never really played a whole lot.
Amplified also has a warning about it being harsh on computers with lower specifications. It's not nice to penalise those that don't have uber gaming rigs.
I'm also not doing large biomes. I did try it out, but got sick of the desert after it stopped briefly after about 2500 blocks had a savannah then back to more desert.

Still, saves us from the constant falling to death messages.
Meh, falling to death is half of the fun to be had. That said, looking at my Death Statistic, I'm not really sad if we cut out as many possibilities for my imminent death as possible ...
The server is on 1.6 for now. It'll change to 1.7 after Dark finishes moving everything over from the thread where people requested to move building sover.

I am about to buy Minecraft but was wondering if i was too late to the party? Is there a better alternative or a version 2 around the corner and i should rather wait?
PSA: There is a bug in Minecraft 1.7.2 with Minecarts. When you exit a minecart you are placed 3 blocks away, whether it is a valid location or not. This can result in you being placed on the other side of a wall, or worse, inside a wall, above lava, above a void etc. Eg:
Make sure any minecart stations (or other places where you would exit a minecart) have at least 3 blocks space on both sides.
Dark: Can we have a space close to spawn (or 0,64,0) that can be dedicated to us making another Suburbia? As in, reserve a certain amount of land for that project?

It's constantly updated for free. We're currently at 1.72, and they've been some pretty major changes. This server will switch to 1.72 sometime in the next week, depending on how much free time Darkinnit has to move stuff over.

Sure.
The 1.6.4 server is now in creative mode. I'm going to be grabbing copies of structures starting tomorrow morning. I'll still be accepting requests for other structures until I'm done (no Ma55terfett yet, Shooms? hmm?).
I'll have a map and 1.7.2 server up for people to choose places once I've finished getting copies of structures. Just in case Mojang release a 1.7.3 on Monday or something
I'm stuck waiting for the new server. I hadn't used vanilla since 1.5.2, so upon DLing the new client I was given no alternative but to update straight to 1.7.2, and so I don't have a 1.6.4 version to select instead.
I prefer to spawn them amongst a crowd of passives and let them tear up the landscape. Bats make good targets since they dodge most of the projectiles, leading to more mindless destruction.
While helping place TNT for the mesa demo I accidentally put a block near a lever...needless to say, it didn't end well.
I'd like to apologize to Anvil and everyone else. I really did not mean for that to happen. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make it up to you guys.
I'm looking forward to using Large Spruce Trees as redwood stand-ins to make a literal treehouse, suspended between four trees.
Seriously, try it out in creative mode in 1.7.2. 4 spruce saplings in a square just like making a large junglewood tree. THEY ARE HUGE! Larger, even, than the large junglewood trees themselves!
I've been trying to work out a way to create an automatic snow harvester, but I'm having redstone troubles. I need to trigger inputs in the following order:
Contract Piston 1, allowing Snow Golem to move out of way of water.
Wait a few ticks
Extend piston 2, pushing snow golem out of the way of the water
Wait a few ticks
contract piston 3, releasing water which breaks snow on the floor and pushes it into a hopper.
expand piston 3
wait a few ticks for water to dissipate
contract piston 2, allowing snow golem to return to gap
expand piston 1, pusing snow golem into gap.
rinse and repeat.
I would have provided screenshots, but blew up my prototype when it wasn't working. If anyone can help, then I am grateful. I got to the point where I was either suffocating the golem in a block, or killing it with water. Anyone good enough at redstone to help?
just rigged the entirety of 1000 blocks with explosives.... If this doesn't crash the server... I don't know what will.
But considering i want the server to survive. I will increase it till I cover the entire map.... everyone we should make a giant explosion that will destroy the landscape, and have a really complicated redstone network to activate the bombs all at once.
Pretty sure all my importnat chests and whatnot would be copyed over if you copy pasted the chunks my stuff is on.
I don't have a site preference. Just place me somehwere 2000ish blocks away from the spawn and not too close to other people in an area that looks nice.
Years of work destroyed in an afternoon 0.o and we did not even have access to nukes! Oh how I fear for the future of the human race when we are too efficient at just destroying everything.
Does anyone (who can film MC stuff) fancy a guided tour of my Chasms in their pure state, before they get transferred? Others welcome to come along too, if you fancy it -- I just really fancy getting someone to film it, and ATM I don't have the software to do it myself (or, probably, a decent enough PC).
My suggestion is that we all bring TNT and arrows and swords, and murder each other en route, not in a kind of full-on PVP kind of way, just in a funny kind of way.
Haha, please focus on the 1.7.2 world, Dark! I'd feel even more selfish than I already do if I got you to do me another huge favour, and this one unrelated to getting 1.7.2 ready.
If the only reason you can't record yourself is that you don't have some pricey recording software (and it's not a lack of computer horse power etc), check out OBS:
http://obsproject.com/
Thanks Dark. Hmm. Looks like OBS won't install on an XP machine, sadly, but I may ask Jambayemon if he's up for filming a tour, as he has a Win 7 machine.
Could someone please update me as to what is happening in the End? I cant get on at the moment (my end, not server) but there was 4 Withers there last I knew, so an update would not go amiss
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, Bandicam is quite good.
the free version allows for 10 minute segments (unlimited number of) plus separate sound recording, not that that is needed.
As well as "Duck, innit", I'm also bringing the hidden villager across from the old world, but this time he's getting a slightly nicer habitat, some clean clothes and some more useful trades:
Probably should have set this up on the old world, but oh well.
I rather like pumpkin pie myself. That's why I build that egg grinder in the corner of the Mesa's one wall, and will be building a rather large-ish pumpkin and reed farm eventually.
Try harder people. The map may be being deleted, but that doesn't mean there should be a block still standing before hand.
...Which on that note: how long is the server going to be kept up for? I've a friend coming on Sunday, and I'd prefer that she be the one who blew the out of my house, rather than one of you unwashed degenerates. (Then again she doesn't see the merits of the game and probably wouldn't fully appreciate the sight of all that work being blown to bits...).
But even if that were true, that's not excuse for trying to take over one of the villages we've claimed and TURNING IT IN TO A fething NAZI DEATHCAMP. Gas chamber included.
So I've got a morbid sense of humor. Sue me.....or better yet just get over yourself
By the by, I did not try to take over "your" village. I simply borrowed (or to keep in the spirit of things, deported by railcar) a whopping four villagers. They were moved by minecart and then left to breed. I think I had close to 30 inmates at the end. Given how close the Kommandant's Haus was to "your" village, the borrowed villagers no doubt were replaced via normal breeding in short order.
Ok, so I got banned from the server. Big deal. I did what I did and paid the price for it. I've always been one to take responsibility for my actions.
So it goes.
I'm just amazed it took so long for anyone to notice!

Edit....You lot didn't kill my cats did you? Now THAT would have been just wrong.
Building Nazi things isn't a "morbid sense of humor". It's an attempt at "shock humor". There's a big difference between the two.
The famous "are we the baddies" sketch is morbid and rather funny because it doesn't rely on shock value: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hn1VxaMEjRU It also involves Nazis.
Dead Baby Jokes are morbid and cliche, but they at least have a punchline and are consistent. It's morbid humor.
What you built is just Nazi stuff and the only "humor" that would be derived from it would be shock value. Considering Nazi stuff in Minecraft is absurdly common, and Nazi "shock value" is also rather cliche, you made a joke and it fell flat.
You could have focused on any other aspect of Nazi Germany aside from concentration camps, but you chose to make only that.
It's not that other people don't get your "morbid sense of humor". It was a cliche attempt at shock value.

Spare us the lecture....
The humor was primarilly derived from the absurd over the top nature of my constructions...that and the amazingly long time (something like 5 months) it took for anyone to take note of the horror that was lurking right outside Melissia's front door.
I really do want to know what happened to my four cats. Are they ok? How about my horses?
Now that the new map is getting ever closer has a definitive plan for the nether system been made? I like the hub idea but wanted to ask who is taking responsibility for extending the tunnels outwards?
I'm happy to take charge of extending the Westward tunnel out towards the edge of the overworld map in a straight line from the Netherside spawn portal so that people in that direction can connect to it.
Does anyone object to that? If not, would anyone be willing to either help, or volunteer to take one of the other directions so we can get it up and running quickly? Also, has any decision been made as to the design for the tunnels (I seem to recall the hub design being decided but not the tunnels)

Uh, you've been banned from the server, and AFAIK, that means you aren't ever coming back. Which means that it doesn't matter if they're okay - you're never seeing them again.
