Yeah.... We don't take too kindly to nazi idioms. I mean I had a extermination of villagers. because they were lagging the server. But it was only called that by Shrike....

I am all for making fun of nazis. hell I love, The Producers movie . But sometimes taking something a little too far is unbearable.

Especially when you are dealing with millions of people dying from said camps....

BUT ANYWAY

I really want to be by myself on that island I am on.
http://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/3399/64/-1855/-4/0/0
So I will mark this area with signs. etc. I really like being on the by myself and no one can see the experiments I am conducting atmosphere. THAT. And I am building a massive super structure underneath it all.

You're not on an island. That's a massive landmass. I hope you're not trying to claim that entire half of the map :/

Nope. Only up to 1000 blocks. That is the limit for me. And anyone.
Just like my old home was 1000 blocks.

I'd like to "claim" this village. Close to the spawn point, in the middle of a massive desert.

By "claim", I mean be in charge of. I'd be quite happy for other players to move in and share the place, as long as they don't destroy it, obstruct my own building etc. I'm going to build walls around it and make it safe.

http://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/-530/64/893/max/0/0

I'd like to "claim" this rock spire too. Might build some kind of tower there.

Yeah, you can't place old buildings in new biomes, regardless of rarity.

Minecraft @ 2013/10/31 01:06:05

Post by: Asherian Command

You can't ask to go to "rare" biomes, such as "Mesa (Bryce)", "Ice Spikes", "Jungle", "Savanna Mountain", "Mooshroom Island", "Mega Taiga" (the one with Podzol) etc. I'm also saying no to "Mesa" requests, as although it's not "rare" it's far less common than say "Savannah" or "Roofed Forest". It's still ok to build new things in these places of course, I'm just not placing copied structures there.

You mistake me. I'm not an existing member of the server, I've not yet been whitelisted, so I'm not asking for old buildings to be ported over from the old map. Anything I build in those two locations will be 100% new and original. Or are you saying we're banned altogether from building in rare biomes? (whether its old imported structures or new original work).

Other people were talking about where they'd like to go, so I found a place that I'd like to use. Sorry for the confusion.

You killed my cats!! Noooo!!!
You are a bunch of murderers!
As the kiddies say, you are bad and should feel bad!

I'll say one more thing about the whole issue and then I'll let it drop:

The most amusing thing about this was the predictable over-reaction. It is all so predictable to the point of being cliche. The chest thumping self-righteous indignation best typified by Mellessia's first two postson the subject, the faux sensitive melodramaic posturing such as the "I have to throw up now" post by Ashererian Command, and the general wailing, gnashing of teeth, and rending of garments. It's all comedy gold.

Ah well.
I'm done talking about KZ Dakka now,

You can build in the new spots, and I don't think there is any 'claiming of land' other than, first come first served.

I'll gladly do Nether tunneling. It's nice and fast, and you can now actually use the Wrack you get. I'd say we ought to smelt it up and try to use it for Netherbrick to construct the majority of the tunnels out of. Also, regular 'safe' routes to the surface, for glowstone and Magma-Cube expeditions.

Maybe? I've never really undertaken any massive projects in minecraft before, mostly just towers, castles, etc... Have we decided where the Nether portal will be? Or is my tower far enough away that I can have my own?

You can build wherever you want, barring close to other peoples land (barring their permission) or the spawn. The other thread's just for requests to move structures over from the previous map.

Post it on the thread. If your copying something then yes. But yes you can build there don't need to ask permission . *UNless you are encrouching on someones land.

You should message people to see if it is okay. plus wait for the server to come up. At most people should only own around 1000 blocks x 600 blocks. As big as my old kingdom was. Anymore is just ridiculous.

Is everyone fine with is unofficial rulling?

If people are having an existing structure imported onto the map, does that mean they get to spawn there from the very beginning, or do they have to trek over there from the spawn zone like everyone else? I noticed that "Suburbia" has been placed across the river right next to the village and temple I'd like to use, giving them somewhat of a head start...

Uh... Do we have a jungle on the map first?

I don't think we do, I see pretty much every biome but jungles.

Jungles are alot rarer. Think of Mesa but three times rarer. But they are quite massive. So for the love of Dakka. Do not burn down jungles.... Ensure it is protected and it would be better if no one built in one. Because jungles are now the rarest biome. So it should belong to the community instead

I have no plans for a jungle, once I get the nether wrack to finish my planetarium I'll probably start doing something sort of like Dalaran from Wow, connect a few floating towers, who knows! Though I think the poster I was talking to was looking for chiseled stone from a jungle temple.

I'm going to shut down the 1.6.4 world in 55 minutes. (10pm UK time)

Take this time to say your last goodbyes (or set off your TNT chain etc)

This does NOT mean the 1.7.2 world will be starting immediately afterwards, I still need time to prepare. But it is likely to be soon-ish, maybe. Perhaps. We'll see.

Y'know, I think the first thing I'm gonna do when the server goes up is break my place down and relocate. The current place I have going is just too complex/time-consuming. I'd much rather have a simple castle keep, maybe with a spiral tower or something like that.

Don't worry Noobbomb, I'll still stay close to the Kingdom of the Great and Holy Kiip! MY faith in the might of our chicken-lords remains steadfast in the face of this new world!

Take one last look at the terrain beyond a radius of 2000 on the newdakka map, because the world I've been pasting things into is only explored out to 2000 in each direction.
http://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/

Of course the locations people have asked for outside that range will also exist and be visible on the map, but in order to allow for some nearby new terrain gen in future, I've been working from a 2000 radius world. The 4000 radius map was just so you had more choice to pore over.

The map will soon update and anywhere not selected outside a 2000 block radius will no longer be visible.

Am I making sense? :/

I won't be on till late late late tonight (so early early early morning tomorrow your time ). I'm probably going to go explore one of the other temples in the desert (I saw 3 total I believe).

I also need to figure out how to do a waterfall elevator so I can create a way into my house that doesn't require a land bridge, those pesky zombies and creepers were getting curious last night.

We're gonna be using the 0,0 portal for the Hub- it's simpler to remember- so just (Netherside) go straight to the nearest x or z 0 axis, then follow that back to the spawn portal.

Actually, if you have a surplus of Charcoal (I think you mentioned that?) you could help out immensely by smelting a ton of Netherwrack into bricks.

Just keep in mind to not make anything permanent as I'll be making the nether hub when a new modem for my interwebz comes along. Also a question, can we strip a mesa biome of its hardened clay to fund this nether hub project? I have a lot of clay as it stands but I don't have enough to manage the project.

It's going to be built as ghast-resistant. Netherbrick floor, stonebrick walls and ceiling. And my mesa needs its clay for the look I'm going for.

Also it appears taht the server crashed, or is lagging so bad I can't connect.

We probably won't need that much hardened clay for the Nether Hub, and I think, for the tunnels, that we should stick to infinitely renewable resources, simply because of how long they'll probably end up being. Also, Nether Feel- needs to be more Hellish than bright and colorful. So Netherbrick (which can be made from all the Wrack we'll be mining), and cobble, and stone and stone brick, and iron bars instead of glass.

Unless hardened clay is Ghast proof?

Anywhere outside the walls around spawn and the Dakka sign. Just be aware that the closer you are to spawn, the more likely you are to have neighbours and they might not always have the same aesthetic tastes as you :-P

Lag issues on the vanilla server should be fixed now. It was lag spilling over from the FTB Minecraft server which is now resolved.

I have spent the past ten minutes searching for the reason for this crash, and I can't seem to find it. Might be linked to Minecraft hating Linux servers is all I can tell.

I dunno, those solutions are all over the place, for Craftbukkit/1.6.4/1.7.2 etc.

I see you're online and in-game now. Have you had this problem since I fixed the lag problem? The lag in the FTB server was really bad (like "worst we've had" bad).

I haven't had that problem since you solved the lag, so hopefully the lag is what caused it.

I got "stranded" in Castle Wolfenstein after using a portal to and from the nether. To get back to my place i borrowed iron (3), coal (8) and some wood (spruce planks). I'll replace them as soon as i manage to get a safe passage between our houses.

If anyone sees an Ocelot near spawn, please trap it and tell me. I spawned one from the egg I got at the start of the previous server (Lego had a chest in his house with various spawn eggs and other stuff, and I think a limit of 3 things per person, can't remember that much of it) and it decided to glitch through the cobble wall and into the stream.

It either drowned itself, or ran off, because I can't for the life of me find it anywhere.

Seeing as no Jungles have been discovered yet, I'm pretty pissed off about it.

It will end up being a proper island again, very soon.

It's a joint project between me, Sky_Slasher, and Jambayemon, and is intended to be a sort of Viking outpost rather than a homeland -- maybe after a long sea voyage, kind of, first Viking settlers in Vinland kind of a deal.

Ladies and gentlemen I am pleased to announce that the westward nether tunnel is almost complete. It currently stretches from the 0,0 portal to x=-400, y=0

If you live in this direction and would like to be linked onto this main tunnel (Looking at Raevyen, _tikkamasala_ in particular) can you let me know your co-ordinates (in the Nether) and I'll add tunnels to you nether portals to give you easy access.

@Schellan96 and I think Weltenwolf (not sure I spelt that right) it seems you two have built part of the tunnel to spawn and added doors along it, do you have any objection to me altering and adding to your section of the tunnel to match the area I've dug, add a roof, walls etc?

Once that's done does anyone have a preference which direction (North, East, South) I should work on next? I'd like to get the Nether tunnels set up quickly to make life easier for everyone on the server

I'm out east, too. Well, north-east, if we're going to try for an eight-way structure this time, in the nether transit system. I'm very much up for building the north-east line, actually, if someone can let me know the standard template (screenshot, maybe?)

Minecraft @ 2013/11/04 19:02:21

Maybe eight way- But I think we're rather going for a 4 way main setup- then you only need a single straight branch tunnel to get to the main tunnel, to get back to the Hub.

Ok, I'll get to work finishing the West route tonight/tomorrow morning. I hope to link up as many people on that as I can, including spawn, then as the consensus seems to be east I'll begin heading out that way.

I may set up a chest at the current hub for donations of cobble and iron.

@ian sturrock: I'm not sure whats happening with the hub at the moment, it doesn't currently look like the design a few pages back, but that may be to do with people not having time or no-one wanting to start alone. I'll stick to building a 4 way system for now, but if the consensus is to build 8 ways I'll look into making that work

@thenoobbomb: you haven't been hooked up yet as you are North, which I haven't got around too yet

Yes, that was me. I started putting them where I found dark spots where creepers might have spawned, but then found loads of places on your roof and thought it best not to make too much of a mess.

Rather than covering your (rather nice) roof in torches, maybe use netherbrick slabs or stairs instead? Mobs can't spawn on slabs or stairs no matter what light level.

Yeah, I've been up in my planetarium and I've heard zombies, which is one of the reasons why I added the hatch so I can create a barrier between me and them I don't mind adding torches to my stuff, I'll probably do that here shortly.

One method is to create a sort of Mould for a portal. Pretty easy, just build a cobble frame and make sure its hollow and then fill it with lava and then strategically pour water into it.

Yep, that's the best way to do it, though you can only do it on Overworld-side, rather than Nether-side. Can even do it with a single bucket if you're patient enough.

Yeah, that works on the surface but what about in the nether? Maybe ice blocks work instead of water (that evaporates immediately)?

I will be building the northern branch of the nether transit system, by the look of things (just heading out there from my portal at the mo'), unless anyone else gets there first.

I am going to need more iron than I have, I think -- anyone care to donate some? I have plenty of cobble, but I'll be around 400 blocks out from the Spawn portal when I start heading that way... which means 800 iron bars. :( If anyone can help, either just by giving me a few stacks of iron, or coming along after I do the cobble part of the tunnel and filling in with iron, that'd be grand.

Yeah the iron quantities needed are annoying. I've burned through a large part of mine just doing West and still have South and East to do (thanks for taking on the North) I've set up a chest for anyone who wishes to donate to the tunnel building at the nether-side 0,0 portal. Any and all donations will be welcomed and make the process quicker.

For those of you in the east the tunnel is coming to you, although may take a day or two for me to complete it out the the edges of the map

The nether hub design I had in mind was only north, south, east and west. Also, I will do the hub, it's just my modem broke and I only got a new one today, so I should be able to start the nether hub tonight. Thank you Storm Lord for starting the work on the tunnels and thank you Ian Sturrock as well.
Why the need for iron though? There isn't much to see in the nether so why bother having windows?
I can take the southern tunnel to spread the workload.

Also, at Y=0 any lava pools that we run into, we could make a glass roof for the tunnel which I think is quite cool.

Post by: Storm Lord

I think the main reason for windows is both nostalgia for the old nether system, but also because a fully enclosed tunnel can feel a bit claustrophobic (in my opinion). It also seemed a few pages back a few people were talking about iron vs glass with iron seeming to be the consensus.

@Tyranid Horde: There is already the beginnings of a south tunnel (needed to link spawn) so feel free to use that. I look forward to seeing the improved hub when it is done. Nothing is at y=0 is it, I thought most things (hub, tunnel) were at y=66?

Are the tunnels a 3x3 so we can get horses down them if need be? Should the roof of the hub be spherical or just go straight to the roof as a cylinder?
Ah, okay, I was looking a few pages back and I saw you mention Y=0

The tunnel designs are 3x3 interior (was considering adding rails?) then cobble walls, roof and floor (where needed) with iron bars as the central layer in the walls

Unless we want to go really big with the tunnels. I could see us making grand hallways, big enough to have half-columns (set into the walls) and torches or braziers in little nooks. At least for the main 4 ways. Then people could design their own branches.

Maybe I'll work on a design in Creative a little.

Anyone know the smallest open space Ghasts require to spawn in? (though having them spawn in an enclosed area where they can't float away wouldn't be terrible either.)

Would rails work? You need some way of changing which track you were on, which would require some thought to make it simple enough so that everyone could use it.

Yeah, that's why I haven't done anything with the rails yet. I'm wondering what the best way (if any) would be to use them. But you might be right in thinking they wouldn't be simple enough for everyone to use easily

5x5 is the smallest space needed to spawn a ghast. They spawn on the ground so slabbing would be necessary to keep it ghast free and pigmen free.

The reasons against using glass in the nether were that:

1) Certain idiots kept running along just smashing random panes

2) People outside the tunnels would be targetted by ghasts, but ghasts are a terrible shot, and it would hit the tunnels and break the glass.

Can't ever really stop the idiots, but anything that takes more than a fraction of a second to break helps.

I never said we should use glass, I thought Storm Lord had said the tunnel was at Y=0 so rather than go straight through the lava, I suggested that we make a glass ceiling.

Some Obby, that is.

Also, rails would work if we were to do a double rail setup- like a road, with the system being all one big loop, with one side of the tunnel always going the same direction.

And Ghast stabbing, I think, wouldn't be a huge issue- give Exp and tears, as long as we make the tunnels explosion proof on the inside as well as the outside--- something to think about...

How about a mix of iron bars and cobble for the middle block?

Maybe 3 iron then 1 cobble, or even 3 then 2. Looks neat and appropriate, avoids claustrophobia, saves a small but significant amount of iron.

Kiln2001 has moved in and is sharing my village now. We also have a tunnel connecting our village to Ytoni's ranch.

In the last week, I've made...

-wheat, carrot, melon, sugarcane and pumpkin farms
-Enchantment Library
-Blacksmith
-Storage hut.
-Watchtower.
-Birch tree farm.
-.Diamond mine (branch mining in chunks).
-Zombie XP Farm (Zombie spawner dungeon).
-secureds several chasms for safe mining (we've got like 3 or 4 chasms under our village).

Future projects are...

-Stables.
-Housing for villagers.
-cow, chicken and pig farms.
-Wolf pen.
-Nether Portal.
-A tunnel to the nearest Stronghold.

You could use nether brick fencing instead of iron bars too. You can't see as much through it, but it's better than the monotony of no windows at all.

Messed around in Singleplayer a bit, and got a design for the possible Main Nether tunnels.

What do you all think? Mainly Netherbrick and Cobble slabs, with Stone Brick and Netherbrick stairs, as well as just plain Stone Brick. The floor is slabs, so Ghasts and Magma Cubes shouldn't spawn (and hopefully not Blazes.)

It'd be work, but I think it'd be worth it, especally with that Nether hub. Or we could work in the colors of the Hub using stained clay. The glowstone pattern might need to be minimized- maybe use the clay for that instead? (though that would allow stuff to spawn...)

Post by: Melissia

That's what I meant about "do it right". Aside from wanting fire resistance potions and some basic enchanted iron armor (it's cheap once you're established), you need to build a cradle and wall to catch the glowstone and prevent ghasts from hitting you. Cobblestone is an easy resource to use for this--- build it as a bowl under the glowstone, with walls high enough to block ghast shots. You can leave it there or take it down, though taking it down is better as it leaves less clutter for other people to stumble on to.

Minecraft @ 2013/11/07 20:00:51

Post by: Wyrmalla

That amount of glowstone would probably be prohibitive to collect, but the whole design in general's probably more complex than most users could be bothered to do anyway, so that's probably moot.

Minecraft @ 2013/11/07 20:34:23

Post by: Anvildude

Yeah, though the glowstone could be replaced by jack-o-lanterns or lamps fairly easily. Or even just simple glass'n'lava. Or like I said, use the glowstone just at intersections or where the wall sconces don't provide enough light.

Shouldn't be too difficult, especially on this server. Might want to simplify the alcoves a bit, but the roof and walls would be fairly simple, as would the columns. And all the materials are both Netherproof and easy to acquire.

Minecraft @ 2013/11/07 21:48:50

Yes, this is for the tunnels themslves. If they're made of netherbrick and stone rather than other, more rare materials, we don't have to worry about gathering unique resources while building our connecting tunnels. Thus, we can all try to keep it in theme.

for lighting you can also use the plentiful netherrack set on fire. on my wall i use it, with a space for the fire and then a glass block on top. it lights a very nice area and is safe to walk over.

Minecraft @ 2013/11/08 04:14:38

Post by: Anvildude

We figure make the main tunnels HUGE and fancy- They're something everyone's gonna have to look at, so why not put some effort into them? Also, makes it easier to navigate- the big fancy tunnels are main tunnels- they always go back to the Hub. The small branches are always to people's personal portals.

@ DeathKlaat- I do use Netherwrack wall sconces in the alcoves- but we'd either need to have alcoves between each pillar (way more materials, work, and clutters up the look of things) or just plop fire down everywhere to have it light enough- fire doesn't light as much as torches and glowstone, I think.

Minecraft @ 2013/11/08 04:34:26

Well, since I'm at least starting the northern tunnel (in the far north, once I get to it from my branch tunnel -- I'm around 2/3 the way there), please LMK the new design.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'd love to see all the main tunnels in Anvil's design, but it's such huge investment in materials & time. My branch tunnel will join the main tunnel more than 400 blocks from Spawn. A tunnel that is 5x5 internally will use a minimum of 20 blocks of material per block travelled, for a total of 8000 blocks for the northern tunnel alone; 32 000 if we extend all four tunnels as far. Assuming around 50% cobble, 20% netherbrick, 20% cleanstone, and 10% glowstone, that's 250 stacks of cobble, 100 of netherbrick (aka 400 stacks of netherwrack plus 50 stacks of coal), another 100 stacks of cobble and 14 stacks of coal... for, well. again, a herculean quantity of resources...

I can't remember the exact number of cases I had, but a stack of books is 21, which is likely around that number unless you want to go and total up the true amount. I can grab the wood I need to remake them myself, since I'd have had to do that in the first place if I was re-locating the shelves.

How about if we agree to the size of the main tunnels (minimum 5x5) and the materials permissible (cobble, stone, stone brick, netherbrick; slabs of all the above; glowstone, netherwrack on fire, netherbrick fence, cobblestone wall, torches, iron bars, and redstone blocks, maybe?), and specify it has to be ghast-proof, but allow whoever's building it to design it according to their preference? That way it should still be very clear that one has found a main tunnel, but there is some individual creativity allowed.

Alternatively, I do like Anvildude's design a lot, but wonder if we couldn't simplify it somewhat as we head further from the Hub? Maybe stick with the Anvildesign for the first 100 blocks out in each direction, then simplify?
