I'm doing yet another play through of Xcom: Enemy Unknown. This one based out of Africa. I'm trying to get the achievement for beating it from each continent and this should be the last one.
My shiny new (!) sealed (!!) copy of Ar Tonelico has arrived. It has been ripped open, that brand new PS2 game smell that is so rare nowadays has been sniffed, it's gaming time!
mega_bassist wrote: I thought the shotgun was TERRIBLY underpowered in this game. I preferred the Battle Rifle to kill the Watchers and to knock down/weaken their shields, and the Assault Rifle to finish them off. The Light Rifle does a great job too, in my opinion (but only in campaign ).
The shotgun really isn't great, but it does do wonders up close against Elites and Knights. When my wife and I were playing one of us would agitate them from afar, the other would get close with a shotgun (or if we were really lucky an assassination).
Perkustin wrote: One word, Suppressor. You can kill the knights with one mag. The suppressor is USELESS in ANY other scenario though. Killing the watchers is obvious, i just found the knights a little too bullet spongey in general. I always play with 'tough luck' on (ever since ODST) and the plasma pistol usually gets dodged, or they do that cheap teleport thing.
I never thought to try them, good tip. The Suppressor and SAW always struck me as inferior Assault Rifles that were less powerful, more inaccurate, but had a larger magazine.
Wat.
Supressor is gak in both IMO. Saw on the other hand.. one clip can kill two knights on legendary. That said, the easiest way to kill knights is assasination in my experience. SAW is better then the assault rifle in every way, if you burst fire it, the accuracy and damage are much better.

I have just never had any luck using the SAW in the campaign, the rounds just seemed to bounce off Grunts so it got relegated (along with the Suppressor) to "Use only when the last bullet of every other gun has been fired, and you've thrown the empty firearm at the enemy"

I forgot I had that, thanks to Microsoft giving it away free. I think it's Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed 2 in July
Forced myself to finish 'old world blues' on Fallout new vegas. Lets just say i'm glad i bought the ultimate edition and that the piece of trash was a freebie. If anyone is wanting to purchase Fallout New Vegas DLC do not buy Old world blues, its awful. Sure it's zany and raised a few chuckles but it is just combat combat combat, which i've always hated in the Modern Fallouts.
Just started Honest Hearts and am finding it way better. The premise and atmosphere is immediately more appealing to me.
Spoiler:
The Ambush at the beginning of it is pretty darn affecting and unexpected. Seeing all those poor caravan guys', who you think are going to play a part in the story, get cut down stopped me in my tracks.
Perkustin wrote: but it is just combat combat combat, which i've always hated in the Modern Fallouts.

It has so much fighting because the whole idea of it is that you've been taken to an area with no escape in which the bad guy controls basically everything. Of course there's going to be lots of fighting when almost everything is trying to kill you on sight, as well as it being the longest DLC anyway.
You could say that the other DLCs were all combat too... Mind that its made by the same developers as the first two games. I've wondered why nobody's made a mod that decreases enemy spawns, rather than increasing them, but that's maybe just for my linking of travelling sparsely populated locals.
I would note that Old World Blues is also meant to be a late game DLC. If you're wanting to play them in order of difficulty I would say that it goes Honest Hearts, Dead Money, Old World Blues/Lonesome Road. ...Though I found Lonesome Road to be too easy as by that point in the game I had silly SPECIAL and skills stats.

Clearly you were doing it wrong , who the hell uses the automatic weapons on grunts? xD Just headshot or melee those little bastard. SAW is one of the best weapons in the game to take down elites, knights, or just about anything that's shielded. (more reliable then plasma pistol head shot in Close quarters)
KingCracker wrote: Fable3. Its a really good game at times.......and at others....I REALLY see why it was so hated. Shame really.
Once you are about 50% through it turns into a different game(which is terrible).
Yea Im past the 50% part. I still think it has qualities that could have easily made it a really good to great game. But....the problem is, I swear every good thing it has going for it, theres a bad part right behind it that screws it up Its really odd playing a game that was made this way. How can some of it be really good, and then the others be so bad it ruins the good?!? Thats friggin weird
I got to this part in CoC Dark Corners of the Earth last night where you have to ride in the back of a truck while shooting at bad guys. Except doing so will definitely get you killed considering the bad guys are far better shots than you with much better bullets PLUS you take damage because the guy driving is gak. So your only real option is to duck the whole time ... I hate it when games don't let you play them. I understand wanting a challenge but there are parts of this game that feel like you simply MUST do them in exactly one way, which doesn't leave much room for the thousands of customers who would really like to play the game because of the interesting story and compelling atmosphere ...
Thanks. Looking it over, it wouldn't have helped this time but I'll be sure to look there first when other PC games (inevitably) won't work properly ...

Yeah but talking to one zany machine is much like talking to another, that's assuming you aren't just making a claim with no basis. As i said earlier the instances were fine but the overworld was just torturous. Actually for the record although you're right Wyrmylla that Honest hearts has no level cap and thus should be attempted first OldWorldBlues does suggest a mere 15, DeadMoney 20 and LoneRoad 25. I was only going on the recommended settings.

I remember old world blues having far more dialogue than Honest hearts or lonesome road- personal experience isn't "a claim with no basis".
Yes, it has a lot of combat in the overworld, probably more than the other two, but it is also the biggest/longest, so it's all proportional- of course a smaller DLC would have less combat.
and I've already covered their reasons behind putting lots of combat in, even if it was a disproportional amount compared to the others.
In other news, I tried getting GTA: IV to work, but I'm getting some error messages repeatedly, despite trying several "fixes".
No real problem though, I was only going to boot it up for messing around in anyway.
GTA: IV is terribly optimized for the PC. I think I have something like four hours play time with it on steam and yet have barely gotten past the fifth mission due to how unplayable it is. =/

Yeah thought so........ Admittedly 'basis' was the wrong word, evidence is what i meant to say.

Not satisfactorily, not by a long shot.
I've been playing New Vegas some more, Unfortunately i've got re-roll fever. Think i'll just keep the high-level guy for the DLCs and use the new character to do all the core quests. I am hoping this will do me till GTA 5, haven't been gaming alot as of late so it should last, i only picked up FNV because i've been feeling completely un-creative.
Started playing Tomb Raider. It's currently on sale on gamersgate.co.uk for about $15, so I just had to grab it. Very immersive experience so far, and holy gak, poor Lara. It almost hurts just to watch. I do like how she seems to grow tougher with every ordeal she survives, tho.

Never played it myself, but I was impressed by the language they created just for it, as well as by the very beautiful songs themselves. Also, the idea to interface with machines using song is fairly unique.

+1
And I had such high hopes for it, too. I'm not sure how many hours I ended up actually playing, but I'm pretty sure a single hand would have sufficed to count them. Shame. :(

That's a double edged sword, you have no evidence for it being "just combat combat combat" either, and if we were being all technical here, it isn't just combat, because even 5 seconds of dialogue out of 10 hour's play time would still make it not entirely fighting.

That's trolling on two levels dear seeing as Bethesda had next to nothing to do with New Vegas. =P
Anyhow, having uninstalled New Vegas due to ENB apparently being horrific to remove without killing the game I'm now trawling through the games that I bought in the reason GoG sale for something to play. Miasmata looks ...interesting.
Here's a tip. Get the Deadpool game, I played it for about 5-6 hours straight yesterday, I never got bored, the combat is good, it's hilarious and just about everything you would expect from deadpool. (though you have to like the style of humor to enjoy it I guess)

My story with this Saga is interesting. Long story short, I started playing this just because of the soundtrack. The music is just so damn beautiful, it made me play this JRPGs of oh so many hours. And I have no regrets. It's beautiful finished Ar Tonelico 2 (y, I know, strange but it was the second game's ost I fell in love with) and now it's time for the first. Thankfully the games aren't "too" connected
Just rage quit The Last of Us. Super counter intuitive control scheme + waves of bad guys + Naughty Dogs patented "Enemies can take 3 shotgun blasts to the chest to kill, and it'll take you 6 shots to do that because you'll miss with half of them and we're only giving you 5 shots to use whilst enemies have unlimited ammo that vanishes into the God-damned ether the moment you kill them" aiming and enemy balance system = FETH THIS GAME.
Had a go at Miasmata, but found the controls to be entirely too clunky. I also managed to get half way to getting the cure and yet never met the creature. Sure I only played the thing for a few hours, but not once did my dear pychotic character (year I read the ending) once have his heart beat fast.
So instead I installed Enclave. The whole thing feels like Dark Messiah but less polished and without a load of features. It was a half decent hack and slash game though, and I've just started the Dark campaign. Too short as usual though.
I have gone back to Soulstorm, finding the Tau stronghold an absolute bitch to beat as the SoB. fething Greater Knarlocks are the bane of my existence right now.
Just played the Last of Us multiplayer online with one of my friends. I have to say it was an absolute blast! It's a breath of fresh air from the amount of tension you have from playing survivor mode as you only have 1 life per round and it highlights teamwork/flanking/actual tactics in a game vs. the normal lone-wolf style bull-charge attacks used in many other shooters games like CoD or Halo. That and having your missions/gameplay actually affect what you have when you are out of combat (you need to gather a certain amount of resources for your people and then some to unlock better gear) makes it that much more intense and nerve-wracking when you're the last guy standing on the team.
They really translated combat very well from the campaign/story to multiplayer and I'm just waiting for the moment when they update/add in a new mode where there's infected involved between both groups while we're scavenging. In a way I'm enjoying this more than the main story campaign!
Ok... now in The Last of Us I'm running around inside a burning dining hall being chased by a mad man with a machete. I've died 6 times already and it's driving me mad.

I did the first time I got a SAW, second level after you make planetfall. After how it performed there I ditched it as soon as I could and stuck to scoped weapons
mega_bassist wrote: Oh man, SWAT drives me crazy...I'm no good at it I stick to normal Slayer, or the team-based modes (Team Regicide, Domination, ect.).
I hated SWAT in Halo 3, and I sorta enjoyed it in Reach, but my frustration was that it was so hard to land headshots consistently when I was in Ireland and everyone else I was playing against was in the US. That's now thankfully changed.
Normal Slayer based games I get bored with just because of the power weapon camping that goes on. SWAT is more of a level playing field. I do enjoy the big team battles with vehicles everywhere though.
Company Of Heroes 2, had not intended to buy this game. But got it for free and I fare say my low expectations where met. The game suffers from some serious cases of imbalance, and the low amount of 1vs1 maps makes it somewhat dull.
Would be playing X-Com IF I could get the sucker to install.
Bought the game as a physical copy with two discs in the box. Dragged my PC into the main house (I rent a converted garage with no internet access.) and started it up.
Got through the Steam DRM, but then the drive cuts out. Because Steam has found a more up-to-date version online. Only trouble is, my landlady's connection SUCKS!
Since then, I've been plagued with slow connection speed - on a supposed "Up to" 10MB broadband, the best I've been able to get is around 300Kb/s, and most of the time nothing. I clocked it on Saturday at a whole 100b/s, yes, bits per second speeds! Steam was telling me at that point it'll take over 350 DAYS to download!
OK, that's probably the worst case scenario, because over Saturday afternoon I was able to get another 2% downloaded - taking my current progress to a whopping 3%. Sunday I got nothing, no access at all, no internet, e-mail, or anything. No internet connection light on the router.
Sorry for the derail, but I am just so exasperated that I can buy a physical copy of a game I want to play, and it doesn't install from the discs that I bought. Why can't I install the game from the discs and then patch individually like anyone who bought the game when it first came out. At least then I'd have a game I can play offline, rather than going through all this aggro.
Mechcommander 2
Okay. This is one of my top 5 best games I've ever played. I LOVE IT. EEZ SO MUCH FUN! I ham havink ball vis dis game.
The greatest moment of it all was this: My team is on a hill.
Hills increase headshot likelyness (yes I just made that word up)
Charging up the hill is an Assault Mech (The biggest baddest kind) 90 tons charging my team, comprised of elite pilots in (Mostly) Assault mechs.
My man Claymore in his 100 ton Atlas fires his double Ultra heavy Autocannons. BOOM! DOUBLE HEADSHOT! The enemy pilot ejects and leaves his completely fine assault mech for me to salvage and use throughout the rest of the mission. COMPLETE AWESOMESAUCE.
Currently playing through Borderlands 1, I didn't finish it first time I tried, gave up after a while, but I've got much further this time around, and I want to finish it...
I've also recently got Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, it's great fun, but so hard to get the hang of! I do ok offline against bots, but the bots are dumb, so objective games are totally pointless... I've tried it online and totally got my arse handed to me Had fun though, so I'll be doing that again!
I am currently playing Assassin's Creed 2 (on the PC) and enjoying it for the most part. Has a nice tourist guide aspect to it as well.
There's just a bit too much fighting and killing at times. And not to forget the atrocious controls and sudden automatic camera changes so you sometimes jump in a totally random direction.
I have not. Also headshots happened again. Playing a mission headshot on a Zeus mech and pilot ejected. I salvaged and then later the same mission my pilot got headshot ejected and again the mech was fine.Just stupid missiles
My super computer from the future has finally shipped, and my long-awaited return to the hallowed ranks of the PC Gaming Master Race has arrived.
The question is what to play. I think I’ll start with Blood Money, being the last new PC game I bought back in 2008, and then Bioshock Infinite. Then what... I keep looking at the cover for Sins of a Solar Empire and dreaming of vast fleets of ships...
Try to track down a copy of MechCommander Gold (it has the expansion as well as numerous updates). It was, IMO, a better game than MechCommander 2* and also a lot more challenging. Plus I liked the plot more (Operation Bird Dog/Bulldog during the IS’s war against the Clans rather than the FedCom Civil War that frames MC2).
* To be fair, my experiences with MC2 do stem from the beta, which was a complete game (cut-scenes, missions, everything), but never felt quite “right”. The funniest part of the beta were the “Nuke Ants” (as we called them). An odd bug in the early missions (especially the 2nd or 3rd) caused the Fire Ant light ‘Mechs to detonate whenever they died, usually taking out everything in the surrounding area with them when they did. It made certain missions next to impossible as a careless shot would blast everything in the vicinity to pieces.
Was planning to spend most of the day playing Guild Wars 2 to try out my new computer parts/ however due to a mix up I won't be receiving them until tomorrow. So I'v resorted back to playing Rift and Skyrim as that is all I currently have installed right now.
Playing Bleed at the moment, it's a great little sidescroller game. Worth FAR more than the five four fifty I paid for it. One of the few games that uses bullet time well-- and is an extremely hard game, but also a very fair one. No bs mechanics, just hard difficulty.
Still no internet connection, so playing through Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance in offline mode. And Star Trek to see if I can make all the commendations I missed the first time.
Tried out Bleed & Cortex Command. Had to realise I've become really really really bad at these kind of games... am now off to lessen my sadness with icecream, will try again later...
In the meantime I work on the CoH2 campaign and tend to my farm in WoW.
Can't get Hitman: Blood Money to work on my new PC. It's very odd.
I have got Bioshock Infinite working. The benchmark thingy said I was getting around 117 FPS average across all areas on the absolute maximum graphical settings. That's pretty awesome. So is the game so far, though I had to quit about 40 mins in as I was feeling dizzy. I guess Total Biscuit was right - I'll need to change the FOV settings!!!
StartCraft II WoL and HoS on the hardest difficulty, finished WoL and working on HoS now.
Console I'm switching between Soul Calibur V and BF3. BF3 is practically done in terms of weapons but I love taking the m60 as a support class and just laying down cover fire for days.
Frankenberry wrote: BF3 is practically done in terms of weapons but I love taking the m60 as a support class and just laying down cover fire for days.
My brother and I love to play TDM on Norshal Canals, both of us using M60's (or PKP's) with extended mags and bipods, and camping on the train tracks. It's cheap as hell, but so entertaining...
I picked up Wargame: AirLand Battle on a whim, and I'm very glad I did. Amazingly fun little game.
I suck at pretty much everything but a Marine deck, however. In the process of trying to get a special operations deck to work. As I play a lot of 10v10, the "everyone does attrition warfare with tanks in the middle" model has gotten a tad old, just looking to shake it up.
Reinstalled The Walking Dead last night. Having only played the first episode I'm looking forward to seeing how the story progresses. ...I'm rather proud of the fact that I've managed not hear any spoilers about it, so you damn well better not ruin this for me Dakka.

I've taken a look into it through youtube. Not really looking that good. Might play it, might not. Again regarding MC2 If I ever play it again I'm making a PPC/LRM specialist. Late game you get Rooster who has those specials, I put him in a tricked out Blood asp, he devastates. 4 Clan ER PPCs, buncha Heatsinks, 7 LRMs, buncha armor. Even with the Heat sinks taking up so much space it still trashes a Zeus every time.
Just played ~1 hour of TF 2...on the Oculus Rift. It's absolutely-fething amazing. It's...wow! The OR TF2 version is a native version the game runs on, thus not all games might run just as well, but it works pretty damn well. Also played a bit of Doom 3, but only for about 20 min, as I already played it a few months ago.
shrike wrote: starting a new game of oblivion. Aw yiss, all the nostalgias.
Starting it after spending half your day downloading a load of mods to make it playable you mean?
Actually, spent a few minutes trying to download a load of mods to make it more aesthetic (that elven armour is ugly as all feth, seriously)
I would prefer oblivion to skyrim (gameplay wise) if it weren't for how horribly it scales. I don't care if I'm a relatively high level, I should not struggle that hard to beat the final mission on normal, even with 5 million health potions and the best armour in the game.
I keep on playing Ar Tonelico but yesterday when I found about the new Walking Dead DLC, the "400 days", I had to play it. Exactly like the episodes: I couldn't stop, I had to finish it in one go, to let go of the game would be a sin.
It's very interesting, 5 different experiences from 5 different persons. You don't get the emotional attachment you get from the episodes because there isn't enough time for that (Damned game, made me cry far too many times) but all the decisions and situations are completely gut-wrenching bad.
You may or may not notice some references to the 5 episodes btw
I started a new grand campaign in Total War Empire, lord the game feels and plays different since the last time I played it. There must have been some heavy patching me thinks, but its glorious now. It actually feels very rewarding to see your grand armies clash with the other major powers in Europa, while your navy meets the foe at the high seas.
I get the feeling I need to play this Walking Dead game. Are the characters less brain-dead than the one's on the TV show? I can't stand the TV show for that reason.
And I started playing Mass Effect. So far I have no idea what I'm doing yet it's really fun.
Yes, don't let the TV show dissuade you. The telltale game is set in the comic book universe (it's the good one) and the activision game is set in the TV universe (it's the bad one).
And I started playing Mass Effect. So far I have no idea what I'm doing yet it's really fun.
You bought the Trilogy set, right?
I do not know if you have played before or not so fair warning in regards to Mass Effect to Mass Effect 2/3:
They turned it from the godawful inventory system to a far more "action game" styled inventory system(Less armor choices, but a bit more customization in that you can mix and match pieces for yourself and your companions get "Appearance Options" which alter minor stat components) and streamlined the fighting a bit more.
H.B.M.C. wrote: Yeah, I did. And I know they dumbed the sequels down for console players (*puts away matches*).
I wouldn't say sao. I liked ME2 better than ME since the first game's inventory management was GOD-AWFUL and the Mako was a useless piece of trash. ME 3 was worse than 2, but better than 1 before the ending and after the ending became worse than ME.
Just played 400 days. Becca is AWESOME, the stoner dude is stupid and that crackhead lady...haha, that scene. hahaha! It's a solid 1,5h DLC for 5$.

Plus they get rid of the Mako! Huzzah!
Two things that I was grateful for in the Mass Effect series;
- ditching the inventory system
- ditching the Mako
Right now I'm playing MS Paint - Real Life. The kitchen is getting repainted before my lot arrive on Monday before the wedding
Guess Ill go sit by myself, I loved the inventory from ME1 and the Mako.... Mayve I'm just special lol.
Anyway been playing Skyrim and Rift. Hopefully my new motherboard comes tomorrow or Thursday so I can get things up to speed with my quad core processor and obviously play more games lol

Nah, you are not alone when it comes to the Mako. I had plenty of fun times with it. That vehicle broke lots of laws of physics but the inventory was a "good riddance!". You were always full of useless gak.
Oh, and HBMC, please do try the walking dead from telltales. I can't stand the abomination that's the TV show, but the videogame is a truly fantastic experience.
And if you don't get at least misty eyed in some moments, ye have no soul.
Of course it breaks the laws of physics. It has mass effect fields. It can be dropped from orbit! It's a tank that jumps for God's sake. What more do you want?
KamikazeCanuck wrote: Of course it breaks the laws of physics. It has mass effect fields. It can be dropped from orbit! It's a tank that jumps for God's sake. What more do you want?
... I can't answer that, the mods would edit my answer and probably ban me :(

Something with rear thrusters so you can boost up and then along to save those endless hours crawling up a mountain to get to the point of interest / mineral deposit you've been looking hours for? Something more like the Hammerhead from the Firewalker pack maybe? I always though it was a kick in the pants that you couldn't use the Hammerhead from then on, you used it for the Firewalker missions only, everything else was back to the Mako.
Firewalker was ME2. I don't remember using the Mako at all in the second one (in fact the only appearance it makes was as an outdated vehicle sitting about on the backwater planets/abandoned mining bases, etc). There was that Krogan thing though?
Origin is worse than I imagined. It wouldn't connect today, so it wouldn't even let me play my legally obtained physically owned copy of Mass Effect (just became a Spectre and nearly out of the Citadel - this game is fun!). So I installed Dawn of War 2, and after the installation spent 20 minutes jumping through registration and account set up hoops just to get past the first fething menu screen.
^ I am sorely tempted by New Leaf and yes that does mean buying a 3ds to play it.
I have been playing Half life 2 and a lil bit of Skyrim. I am actually realizing that Dawnguard imo added more content to the base game than Dragonborn. Seeing all Dawnguard had to offer took me far longer than Dragonborn.
A thing i have actually found frustrating about Skyrim is there is virtually no real point in owning the PC game over the 360 version. Some of the ENB mods look interesting and SkyUI looks fantastic but there is not a single decent quest-mod or gameplay-mod and i have watched ALOT of videos.
They are all just dumb fluff-bending novelties and things that make the game artificially harder. Exploding chickens, giant breasts and skimpy armours and alot of really crap character animations. Basically, PRO-level 3d modellers and graphics artists aside, the skyrim Nexus and Workshop has very few truly skilled modders. Not one seems to understand what makes skyrim so special and how the minorest of tweaks to the mechanics or just some more story driven quests would make the game perfect.

Is scanning planets from orbit from some console on your ship more fun?

I nearly fell asleep more than once when I was "farming" planets for materials. At least with Mako I had fun jumping around and using the weapons. The only good scans were the ones that turned into a side quest.

There is quite a few mods I use which(while not played fully) add some nice new features/quests. I would recommend to play/look into the following:
Civil War Overhaul(Not played at all) Is meant to fully change the Civil War to where you can lost Hold etc, more to what Bethesda wanted it to originally be.
Helgen Reborn, Rebuilds Helgen, only played the intro quests.
FrostFall, fully changes Skyrim. Makes it so you need to watch what you wear/ go as staying in the cold for too long can kill you.
Lost Wonders of Mzark - A dwemer ruin based quest. Once again not played.
Shadow of Meresis. Another quest mod which Ive not tried. Has you wandering around skyrim.
I know that this isnt much to go on but its just a few mods which may interest you. I am doing a somewhat RP playthrough so I'm not just going to go quest X starts at city Y so lets go there, I'll need a reason to go to city Y to begin with, which is why I havn't played most of the quest mods.
I have seen a few of those and most aren't to my taste. The civil war one especially looks pretty ropey iirc. The lost wonders of Mzark looked promising but it appears it has you fighting Ultra tough 'Holograms' so that's very much a no go for me. Have not heard of the last one.
There were a couple good ones involving the Thalmor which did look okay. I also saw a mod the other day that has staffs wielded like torches so you can block and bash with them. However i have to re-iterate that apart from a few of the (balanced, lore friendly) armour/weapon sets, the least frame-rate intensive ENB and skyUI there's really very little i'd add to a PC copy of the game.
Perkustin wrote: ^ I am sorely tempted by New Leaf and yes that does mean buying a 3ds to play it.
New Leaf got me to push up my planned 3DS purchase. I was originally going to wait until Pokemon X&Y were released and buy the inevitable bundled special 3DS.
Frostfall, Realistic Needs, the hunting overhaul all add a fair bit for my chosen method of gameplay. Psikotics Necromancy mod also makes playing a necromancer viable and pretty fun.
As far as quests - I did the Moonpaths to Elseweyr and that was pretty good, but it was one of the first adventure mods to be released so it can be a bit rough in places.
Call of Juarez - Gunslinger.
Did not like the first one, was not interested in other two but that one is a great. It may be a little short (I did not finish it yet) so some kind of sale would be preferable, but other than that the gameplay is good, the way the story is told is awesome.
Definitely one of the best games I played this year.

No it's not. Doesn't stop me wanting a jump capable vehicle that allows you to jump and go forward at the same time, or having a boost function like the hammerhead does. And I preferred the weapon mod system from ME where I can put a scope on whatever weapon I have to make it more accurate, or better cooling so I can fire more shots.
Don't get me wrong, like a lot of people here, I don't like ME's inventory system, it's just that I'd put up with that to get ME's weapon modifications. ME2 didn't have anywhere near that level of customisation for the weapons. Armour was great, you could get multiple linked upgrades and you had almost unlimited visual customisation too. But where was that love when it came to dishing out the pain?
As to what I'm playing now.........
Thanks to very ropey internet connection and no connection at all for the last 2 weeks.... Guitar Hero on PS2, relaxing by playing the first couple of sets at the highest difficulty I can manage.
Aside from occasionally blowing up Fedrats in MWO, I've recently picked up Star Trek Online again. The roleplaying community is still as nice as it was when I went inactive and I've recognised a lot of old faces (or rather names). The game has come a pretty long way during the many months of my inactivity, having implemented a host of new features and stuff to do, including an entire new semi-faction (Romulans). For one of my characters, a pirate, I'm currently grinding the Risian Corvette, which is a small and nimble high-tier ship that players participating in the currently active Summer Event are able to acquire for free. Otherwise, I'm having fun creating silly duty officer assignments (such as scheduling a mandatory therapy session between two counselors, or telling my exocomp to participate in a martial arts exhibition) and do 5-man Special Task Force missions or 20-man Fleet Defense scenarios with the people from the STORP channel.

I have been playing a lot of Total War Medieval 2 as of late, its something deeply satisfying with watching a sea of heavily armed cavalry slam into the rear of already engaged enemy foot men. and to see your cavalry scythe them down as they flee in terror.

800 handgunners versus 1600 peasants went better than expected for me- about a quarter got shot charging, then only a hundred or so got into melee, the rest fleeing.
with most of the handgunners keeping them running with volleys, it turns out a few peasants armed with pitchforks can't really do much against steel plate.
Just blasted through 1st episode of The Walking Dead. Holy crap is this good Not usually one for interactive stories but I actually feel like I want to play through the rest to see what happens.
Think its more down to the fact that there is Moral choices which are a shade of grey, none of this good/bad that was rife in the Fable games. I want moral choices to be tough and not know what the benefit of taking one over the other.
sing your life wrote: Oh and I think I'll buy Operation Flashpoint and MGS collection some time.
I bought Operation Flashpoint in the Steam sale. Despite remapping the controls they still seemed really clunky (oddly getting rid of the mouse scroll function entirely in lieu of sticking all those controls onto other buttons), though this is something I found inherent to ARMA too. The game seemed to assume a lot of me, considering that a manual wasn't provided, nor does it play like a typical shooter. The Ai was horrendous, where the enemy either stood still and shot in my general direction or stood still and did nothing at all, and the squadmates were no better. Perhaps I asked too much of the squad command system, but I really wished that I didn't need to tell me squadmates to stop standing in open ground being shot and to move to cover instead of having to pause and navigate the clunky menu to do so.
So pretty much the same issues I had with the ARMA series too. Though with ARMA you at least never see your death coming half the time unless your paying attention. With Operation Flashpoint you have to run about an inch in front of the enemy's face before they're actually capable of placing a few hits on you...
Trying out the Firefall beta right now. It's... interesting. Some latency issues, and, like many games in Beta, could use more tooltips/guides/tell-you-what-stuff-is-things.
While enjoying Ar Tonelico I fell victim of the mighty Steam sales and among others I bought XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
Grave mistake, it has been a while since I spent 3 hours playing and constantly thinking "Just one more mission, just one more mission".
It didn't help I started in Classic difficulty and I didn't play the original games. I was about to rage quit the game in the first escort mission, when a Thin Man ALWAYS managed to snipe one of my team with overwatch each and every time I tried to move. After 8+ reloads, I said to myself this was war and I couldn't keep everyone alive, said individual took one for the team and bravely died as a meat shield and now the game is fantastic
3 hours? Is that all? Wait until you finish a marathon session and turn towards a window only to see that the sun is up, and that it wasn't when you started playing.

Never managed to do that and I hope I never will, I'm not able to pull an all-nighter and live to tell the tale .
3 hours is already an impressive achievement on it's own. For the past few months I only managed to play around 1 hour or less and then it's back to the painting. XCOM made me go "Screw that!" and just keep on playing

A friend and I once played Max Payne from start to finish, swapping each level. We started at around 9pm at night. When we finished I turned to him to congratulate him and was shocked that the sun was rising. It was just after 6am.
There was a pause and then I said "I should probably drive you home...". We didn't mean to do that either. It just sorta... happened.
Might and magic 6 the steam edition. Why i have to reinstall uplay I'll never know. Now i'ts working I'm really enjoying the old fashioned turn based play, also bought eador to get a similar fix
Rome total war : XGM , awesome mod, puts the hard into rome total war, I've never won a campaign yet and that's on medium, though i think I'm going to have to start the forced diplomacy

Whew... big thread so far. My apologies if anyone's posted on these games already - but I took the opportunity to pick up a few games off the Steam sale that I've been wanting to try for a while now.
Together with what I was already playing anyway, that means I am now in the middle of:
Skyrim
Borderlands 2
Audiosurf
System Shock 2
Metro: Last Light

I basically only play the basic mono game type (colour-blindness and a distaste of all things Tetris makes me uninterested in the other modes), but who cares when you're having fun? Songs with endless stretches of red are really difficult, and that Elvis remix is almost entirely red from start to finish. Getting a perfect run (no grey blocks) is quite a challenge.

Oh, I know. I was mostly whining I have not found or traded for something that was in the game from the start, while being able to gather items that are also crazy rare - but introduced afterward, months after.
Getting a Head or Weapon is obviously not the issue, its getting the one that matters.
I found a Legendary Siren mod in a random bucket and a pearlescent from an alter trade, but have a hard enough time even spawning Vermiverous that it is annoying to farm for a specific drop.

... Kenny died to save Ben who had just been impaled after a large fall, killing Ben with his final bullet before being engulfed in a wave of walkers as I climbed away. Christa was pretty much unharmed the whole way.
I dropped Ben during the bell tower bit allowing the rest of us to escape. Not too long after Kenny bumped into Lee which caused the walkie talkie to drop into a dark room, Christa jumped down to get it which then resulted in Kenny going in to save her.
Just shows that some choices do affect the story somewhat lol.

Ah, but remember with the plot of that game. Everything that you're doing has already happened. The world still ends up the way it does in the original games. Its the journey that matters. Oh and punching straight through walls to stab people in the back. Yeah that's a major part of the game too. =P
Get the upgrade that lets you read people's intent as soon as you can. It may not be used often, but it gives a lot of handy information during conversations when you need to talk down someone for information/not to shoot you. Depending how you choose to play the strength boost is good for explorers, plus it allows you to punch through walls. The ability to breath poison gas is rarely used, but it opens up radically different routes in levels should you choose it (ie "oh look the room's filling with gas. Ah well"). You can wind up at the end of the game with 2/3rds of the upgrades, so what you choose is dependent on your play style/ rule of cool. I'm not saying that a stealth orientated character needs to have miniature rocket launchers in his chest. ...But it is a game about choices.
Replaying Skyrim, trying to stick to a set and rigid values.
- No Magic Spells, scrolls or Magic restoring/buffing potions (Health and Stamina Potions and Shouts are Okay, though I haven't unlocked Shouts yet)
- 'Honorable' Combatant (i.e. No ranged weapons, no sneaky thief weapons like daggers and poisons)
- Charity when asked while in town
- Loot "valuable" things like jewelry, magic items, "fancy weapons (i.e. nothing I can craft easily)
- Loot Gold and commodities (pelts, meat, etc..)
- Cant wear a helmet (as no self respecting Nord would!)
- Use only weapons/armor I can modify with my Smithing skill (uses steel axe when glass is floating about)
- Use Armor I can craft, or armor of a faction I lead (Currently wearing Wolf Armor as I lead the Companions)
- No crime (i.e. no stealing, no pickpocketing, no murder, etc...).
- Morally Ambiguous quests are sometimes okay
- No guilds other than the companions, Civil War faction, and Dawnguard (only because I haven't cured my lycanthropy yet)
- No trainers
-You can only fast travel if you own a living horse. If you don't have a horse, you can use a carriage to fast travel.
-You can only 'wait' inside inns, your own house, or the houses of those who consider you a friend.
-You have to eat three 'raw' foods (potato, raw rabbit leg, raw beef, etc.) or one 'cooked' food (stews, cheeses, bread, etc.) every day.
-You cannot eat food in combat.
Also, just "enjoyed" my first negative with Dawnguard. After completing the Companions quest last night, I was walking towards the smith at the front of Whiterun, and I noticed that the general store owner and the woman who works the forges in Whiterun had been killed by Vampires... Guess who has to go find himself the Dawnguard and put a stop to this gak!

Then again, we have not really tried to spawn (or fight!) the ~62 version. We are taking our 61's against the 53. Less odds of it the critter showing, but better chance of us getting him deadified.
It is not like the level of heads or legendary class mods really matter, and that is really what we are after.

Practice makes perfect! If possible, get a double sided lance - horseback fighting is a lot easier with that, though your reach is somewhat limited. And regarding Nord peasants: just pick on mountain bandits in Rhodok territory, you'll train them up soon enough and have an awesome Huscarl army
And tactics: with Nords, always get high ground and order your warriors to hold position on the hill. Order them to move closer together as well. This reduces the impact of a cavalry charge and makes archery harder. In close combat, your Nords generally will win. If you need cavalry, train Khergit Lancers but keep a bunch of Sarranid and Swadians in your party. Khergits get horses faster than the other races, and if the need is desperate then you'll be well served by them. Sarranid Mamlukes and Swadian Knights however are boss.
EDIT: The above was reason no. 76 why I need to get outside and talk to people.

Get a horse. Kite an entire enemy army whilst riding said horse. ???? Profit.
Its a great series to play. However in the first two its crucial that you learn how to ride a horse efficiently and, at the higher difficulty levels, understand tactics a bit too *. Do try and not to off the nobles too much. Their like to start a war with you if you keep calling them donkey caves (feasting when there's a war on? Ah, then you must be in the Kingdom of Swadia). Napoleonic Wars is fun too, though when I was last on a while ago it would seem that the number of trolls is up. Still, it is fun trying to snipe with a musket. Though that constitute's standing a few feet from you're target and still having your shot miss mind.
*I'll refer you to my first statement with this. If you're on open plains and not facing fast cavalry you really can just ride about picking off any enemies that break away from their formations. With Fire and Sword makes this a much less efficient tactic however because you know... the enemy have guns that time around. =P
Thanks. Unfortunately, I can't fight on horseback to save my life. Makes life difficult. And after I got 100 Nord peasants killed in battle, I don't have much of an army anymore.

No worries. My 2000 + hours on both games combined teaches one much (but not how to land a shot greater than 3 difficulty!)
The Walking Dead Torchlight Bastion 3D Mark Dishonoured DLC Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
When will this nightmare end!
Don't worry, Day 22 it will all end with a bang, with the most successful sales returning one last time to taunt us, whispering "You resisted us once, can you resist twice?". Then around October they will have another smaller sale. Just enough to get us confused and maybe spend some more, but either way, our will gets weaker.
Then they strike WITH FISTS OF FURY when December arrives. You think Summer Sales are bad? Wait until the December ones.
On topic: I now keep on playing Ar Tonelico, XCOM: Enemy Territory (this game is addicting) and started The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing with a friend for some JOLLY CO-OPERATION!
It's just scary when you're tempted to buy things like Arkham City or Sleeping Dogs... games I already own (on my PS3) and have completed multiple times.
The one hour lock on your character every time they die still in there? Seeing as you lose everything that they're carrying I see no reason for why you'd not just create a new one or cycle through a number of them...
Finally got X-Com installed. Wow, do I suck! don't like thin men, and by the time I get to Mutons and those zombie spawning SoBs, I'm loosing men left, right, and centre.
I was stuck with nothing I can research, nothing I can build as I didn't have the parts, and had not managed to upgrade my weapons enough to make much of a difference. Even my upgraded armour wasn't terribly helpful.
And some alien git had removed 8 hours of my life!
I've been experiencing rookie death after rookie death recently :-\ I have a squad of 5 people that have been with me since the beginning that while they do get injured, they've never died... Mutons show up, and now I'm losing rookies left and right .
That game is like an abusive spouse. Everything seemed good, but then you leave the roast in just a little bit too long (or your idiot squad members don't know how to quietly open a door ) and bam! get a back hand to the face!
What is hilarious is one of my assault members with a shotgun has never been injured, never been out of a mission, and has the most kills . She just run n guns into a flanking position and blows things up.

I don't know which difficulty you are playing on, but after starting on Classic right away I learnt my lesson NEVER rush.
I play my games cautiously, moving a team member ahead to cover, if I like what I see I either overwatch or attempt to move to another piece of cover. Have your team members cover each other.
Make sure you get a sniper. My 'Solo' saved the butt of my team members more times than I can count and he's rarely wounded because he's far, far away from the aliens.
If you are facing Muttons, I dearly hope you have some laser weapons. Without them, it's really gonna be tough
Consider prioritizing Engineers over Scientists. I my first run big time because I wasn't able to build a certain plot item OR satellites. Satellites are your friends!

I move cover to cover, but gave both of my Assault members the Run 'n Gun upgrade so that if I needed to, I could Dash forward to an exposed Alien (to the nearest bit of cover) and blow them away.

Currently I have a Sniper, 2 Assault, Support (with medkits), and 1 Heavy with a rotation a heavy, or a rookie when someone is injured. My sniper has the second most kills and was the highest ranked member of my squad until he was gravely wounded one mission and was out, letting Shotgun McGee blow away a few missions and take over the squad .
If you are facing Muttons, I dearly hope you have some laser weapons. Without them, it's really gonna be tough
I have lasers for everything but pistols (though the Sniper has a laser pistol for when I need him to move and fire).

Yeah, I can see that now :-\ India and Mexico are on the verge of panic because I don't have satellites to cover them, and have 3 days or so left on their construction.

Made me realize I was playing way, way too aggressively.

Never played any of the other games, so that doesn't bother me.
What annoys me immensely, though, is that lethal takedowns (and being lethal in general) is far louder and awards less experience than non-lethal.
Made me realize I was playing way, way too aggressively.
I realized on my 3rd crashed UFO that I was playing too aggressively when my Heavy Weapons guy was dropped to 1 hit point due to aggressive placement and trying to get towards the aliens., and I had to basically not use him for the rest of the mission. After that point, I started stocking up on med kits and taking it slower. My shotgunner just doesn't seem to care (the humorous thing is she apparently dodges like a melon fether, the teflon alien killer.
I never liked my Heavy, he rarely accomplished anything. I even went so far to take 3 jetpack'd Snipers in a mission and they just destroy any opposition
Sigvatr wrote: I never liked my Heavy, he rarely accomplished anything. I even went so far to take 3 jetpack'd Snipers in a mission and they just destroy any opposition
Destroy cover, blow up walls.
Give him Bullet Storm and you can position him somewhere, fire two shots a turn or
give him a shot followed by an immediate reload. Very very nice.
My heavies always have scopes and I found it made a HUGE difference.
I think I fired about three rockets total in my last play-through, and the heavies were great.
Snipers were always better though.
Surprisingly an assault won me the game with a last minute cloaked run-and-gun to take out the boss.
We would have all died so horribly.
I have 2 heavies on my team. Those 2 extra large, extra damaging missiles are pretty darn useful. Last Terror mission 2, 2 of them cyberdisks showed up at the same time together with drones and bunched up together.
They didn't like the 2x 16 damage rockets that much
The Holo-targetting I have on both of them also helps my entire team a lot.

They're also not too shabby if you swap out the shotty for the AR or, later, a laser rifle.

One of them has a Scatter Laser and the other has a Laser Rifle... they kill gak
Something about XCOM that gets me mad is how it gets confused when you save too much They can make an amazing game, but it looks like they can't create a sorting algorithm if their life depended on it.

damn, does rapid fire come in handy!
I love both games, but I think I liked ME1 better as far as mechanics go. ME2 probably had the better story though.
So far as the OP goes, I picked up 2 games. First, I got Wargame ALB on a whim after seeing a trailer of it's sweet-ass graphics. That was useful for reminding me I have a policy about buying games on a whim, I hate Wargame ALB turns out. It has too many levels of complexity. Much like how I like Ace Combat over actual flight sims, I prefer Supreme Commander and other more simplistic RTS's over Wargame. It's very, very non-intuitive to play and the tutorials are pretty poor.
I also got a copy of Don't Starve. That's a really great game, I highly recommend it, specially if you'll play it without googling stuff and just explore and experiment.

The tutorials also aren't helpful to actual gameplay, because they largely have you running around in an M1A1 shooting at Soviet tanks from the '50s. The community has created far better tutorials, located here.
But if complexity's the issue, then yeah, that doesn't change. It's a complex game, though it seems much less so once you get familiar with it.
Anyone in here with reliable FTL experience? The game's so frustrating and seems to be incredibly luck-based...made it to the last galaxy once, thinking I finished it, only to find out I suddenly have to face enemies with 3-4 shields and ~4 weapons...

Its not just you, It is that hard. How well you do at the end does have a bit to do with luck. I've had runs where my entire way I picked up amazing weapons and owned the rebels at the end. However, Its very "possible" ("more than likely" feels like a better term) to go through and only get absolutely terrible weapons from ships and stores the whole way. Losing crew can be a pretty big hit along the way too. I found losing you full level pilot or engine man is really bad. Main tips I can give is always upgrade shields to 3 and put as much into engines as you can spare. The extra evasion is a godsend
Except it's not. The distance from the cockipt to the rear of the ship is the same on the inside as the old one - despite having been told that it's twice (?) the length of the old Normandy.
OK, so it's got an extra deck. Which contains .... your cabin. Me, I'd start sleeping in the coms area, more walls between me and space.

Well, I found yet another reason to love XCOM. Plasma Sniper Rifles... My sniper now carries his own personal Lascannon. That thing murders everything. Sweet and delicious murder.

Poor balance does this
FTL is insanely frustrating. I enabled death-proof saving and it's getting better. Balance is really off on this one :/
If you're finding if difficult you can always turn off the enemy fleet. That'd allow to farm an entire system before moving on, though it does take out some of the challenge when fighting the boss I suppose. If you're seeking the rarer encounters though (ie crystal race), I suppose it would be a good idea.
I'm fine with the save edit right now as it prevents the worst bad luck cases. Taking away the fleet would be way too easy as you could gather everything in the entire sector.
Hey I had a go at playing it without the fleet, yet still managed to lose the final battle.
Though yes, the fleet really does make the game. The basis is that you've only got a limited time in each system, its luck whether you get what you want or not (and woe betide you run out of fuel). Increasing the chance of finding decent gear kind of takes away that feeling of escaping by the skin of your teeth.
Anyhow. Playing Age of Empires III
Its surprised me in its quality. I had been told that it was utter gak going in, but its hardly that. It does strongly remind me of Dawn of War, and has stark differences with its predecessors. The camera bugs me in its lack of zoom controls (it totes the quality of its models, yet I can't zoom all the way in), as are anything but the base controls a bother to handle (shift scrolls to move the camera...). I've almost gotten through the base game's campaign, and though the story's lacking perhaps, it is engaging enough to play. They could have done a lot more with the idea of returning to locations from the earlier parts of the campaign though (the fountain of youth levels are the best in the game so far for me).

Do you have the setting enabled that shows you the jump routes as you mouse over them? It was very frustrating my first two play throughs going down a long path only for it to be a dead end for no real reason. Having it enabled lets you map out a pretty good route from the beginning letting you get in as much scrape as possible before jumping out.

WOOO! AGE OF EMPIRES! One of my first games series that I ever played.
So...I finally managed to destroy the rebel flagship, got a new ship, played a few new rounds and...well...why is there such a big hype around FTL?
The game is extremely poorly balanced, leaving your succes mostly to luck and not skill, making it extremely hard. You know the basics after a few rounds already - always keep the important systems manned, lure boarders into your medroom, upgrade shields and FTL asap, don't use autofire but rather manually synchronize shots etc. etc. At that point, you mastered the game and the rest is luck. And seriously, that's extremely poor design.
I love hard games. Dark Souls is my favorite game of all times and I am about 75% through with my naked playthrough. But while being very hard, DS greatly relies on your skill. It takes a long time to get really good, but pays off extremely well too as your success (or failure) is solely based on your skill.
FTL, however, is extremely hard too but just because it's unfair and poorly balanced. I just don't get why there's so much hype about it. Just because it's indie and hard? Nowadays, I get the feeling that any indie game that's also hard seems to get a lot of praise for being "hardcore" - which is definitely wrong.
So all in all, I think FTL is overhyped a lot and, personally, I think it's not a good game. Far from it.
I liked FTL a lot.
It's a partly text-based rogue-like game with a lot of inherent randomness, some multi-tasking/micro-managing and it's not necessarily about finishing the game. "enabl[ing] death-proof saving" is most likely not the way to enjoy the game though.

Do you have a PS3 to play Demon Souls or Xbox360 to play Ninja Gaiden 2? I find both harder than Dark Souls.
P.S: always nice to meet a battle-brother who doesn't mind getting sodomized by a game until you are able to sodomize it back

Nope, the only console we have is my fiancee's Xbox 360 and we think about buying a WiiU.
Yeah, I like games that really challenge its user as well - as long as they are fair

It's a step to counter bad game design. FTL is poorly balanced and is mostly based on luck - which just doesn't make for a good game. I can recommend Dungeons of Dredmore. Excellent rogue-like with far superior game design.
Wyrmalla wrote: ...Then you get transported to that one level that's full with monsters from deeper in the dungeon and the game says, "deal with it".
Depends. This happened on odd playthroughs, but most of the time, if you really took your time exploring the areas and don't fall for the shiny traps (STAY AWAY from dem teleportaz!), it worked out really well. Learning to dance is mandatory, obviously.

So... you took the rogue-like elements out of a game that's entirely made to be... a rogue-like game.
So... you took the rogue-like elements out of a game that's entirely made to be... a rogue-like game.
I took out one of them. To me, key features also include randomization and turn- or rather step-based movement. Rogue-likes are very hard to balance due to the randomization part, that's fosho, but FTL does a terrible job at it as the entire game becomes luck-based after 1-2 hours. I enabled saving to see if the game has more to offer and...it doesn't. You unlock a few new ships that are superior to the older ones and thus the game gets...easier after you first "beat" it. Again: huh? The overall game should have been longer, aka more galaxies, but you'd unlock more ships while passing-by. It's impossible to win the game with your first ship but more ships allow you to get further and further. etc.
Now, after finishing the game once and playing a few rounds with the new ship (+unlocked layouts) I don't see any reason to further play it. It's incredibly repetitive and instead of playing the game to see if I win, I could just roll a dice - and that's really poor game design. I'd rather play some DoD.
Honestly, I can't really bring myself to actually PAY for games that aren't Elder Scrolls anymore, considering that some of the best FPS, TBS, Tower defense, hack&slash and RPG games are free.
Currently playing Firefall's beta- that game needs tooltips like a leper needs antibiotics, but once you figure out how stuff works, it's pretty fun.
Have you played The Walking Dead yet? (The Telltale RPG!)
It's a mixture of tv series and game, essentially an adventure that tells an AWESOME story with deep, dynamic and overall well-written characters. I cried at the end of the series because I was so deep emotionally involved into it.

The Walking Dead is an amazing game, 400 days was disappointingly poor.

Yeah, sorry guys, should have been a bit more specific.
I like RPGs/FRPGs (Eldar Scrolls Series, Baldurs, Fallout 1-3, Deus Ex series etc).
I was thinking of getting the Witcher series but ts quite expensive on Steam. Any good?

I also like strategies - Civ5, DoW2 etc.
The Witcher, if you consider the RPG and story side, is amazing and one fantastic tale. The combat... may not be for you. I didn't mind and actually enjoyed it, but I read how people disliked the "click-based" combat. (The "The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut" is only 7,99€ on steam so I don't think you risk much trying this one out )
Witcher 2 ... I kinda wish I could tell you more, but I gave up on it in the middle of my run. I blame myself for choosing the toughest difficulty setting right away. Unlike other games where great difficulty = greater challenge, this one just means greater frustration .
Have Arkham City, Max Payne 3, and Gears of War 3 (I know, I know, I'm late. I never buy anything brand new (saev borderlands)) on their way shortly. The Mrs. will not be pleased.
Torchlight 2. Nothing says "HULK SMASH" like a bloody explosive hammer from the Engineer. I had him named Lord Garithos after one of the most badass racists in Warcraft 3.
Just finished Deus Ex Human Revolution, so while it isn't done downloading yet, I guess that means I'm playing Strike Suit Zero (unless its garbage). Yay for steam summer action
X-Com: Enemy Unknown, where I am getting to grips with the systems and am now using laser weapons. Starting in the area where I get 30% extra cash each month has really helped. I'm just getting a little stumped at the moment as I keep killing the outsiders, not stunning and capturing them.
Dead Space 3. Originally was impressed by the advertised fact that you could make your own weapons, but as it turns out I cannot make a double plasma cutter that fires both at the same time, I'm less impressed. Still, it does mean I spend less time reloading as I can run the top one down, then fire the second until it's empty, then reload both at the same time.
I have two of those in my squad. Problem is that I habitually keep all the squad on Overwatch and use the last guy to activate to open doors. So they generally get blown away by 2 precision lasers, 2 heavy lasers, and a light plasma rifle before I can get anyone near enough to use an arc thrower. And it's only going to get harder as I move up to the other plasma weaponry. I suppose I really ought to research the better armours first though.
Fully scout the area out before breaching. If he's the only living alien your toughest guy should survive a shot if they have cover. Suppression is nice too sometimes they stand still
Only seen a couple so far, and they have been inside a sealed room on a ship. Might get lucky sometime fairly soon. Going to have to give it a rest for a couple of weeks as I'm going home for 2 weeks and it's not worth taking the PC with me. So will have to wait until I get back.
Not unless something changes it at higher levels, Run and gun only lets you fire, it doesn't allow the use of items, of which the Arc Thrower is one.
You cannot, thus my edited addition.
Get 2 Assault with Lightning Reflexes near the door to end the turn.
Start the next turn with them moving in (NO OVERWATCH!) and stunning it - Lightning reflexes should make it survivable even if another alien is in there.
The second makes it almost impossible to fail as the odds are usually pretty good.
Also, move right up to the thing - ignore the chance of that soldier dying, it's for a good cause!
Finished Far Cry 3 finally. It had a good ending, and one of the best soundtracks ("Flight of the Valkyries" in he helicopter scene ).
I started Gears of War 2 last night. I played the first years ago when it was first released, and a friend let me borrow GoW 2/3 recently. It's as fun as I remember the first one being....but I didn't remember all these giant monsters! Kinda reminds me of the enemies from Resistance: Fall of Man.
Is that any good? saw it for 40 bucks at game stop.
I recently started playing mass effect. I've never played any of them before and it is extremely enjoyable. I feel like i've been deprived my whole life.
I think pure caster would be more fun in oblivion with the custom magic, I was getting pretty bored with it in skyrim. Maybe you like it though!
Gotta say, strike suit zero has just enough missiles. There could be more, but it definitely gives you that robotech armored veritech or large ship unloading huge payloads of missiles feel.

It's challenging as hell, especially against other casters. I'm used to just running in, and smashing them to death. I feel my damage progression is a lot slower as well.
Yeah, I think damage is the problem, it does a set amount based on the spell and your perks, instead of scaling with you as you level. Still, it is probably still easier than the illusion/conjuration only pacifist who only lets others do the fighting
Just had a quick blast of Tomb Raider, got it free with my new GFX card, pretty nice game need to play more of it.
Main game atm is Assassins Creed 3, yes its mostly the same as the others but I wanna know what happens in the story. Damn Ubisoft and their Uplay and cliffhangers >.> The two biggest things I hate about em.

I started playing ES games on the Xbox, it's the only way I can play them now. The PC just drives me nuts. I may eventually get an xbox controller that plugs into the PC, that may get me over that hump.
Aw man, Elder Scroll games are boss, computer or console. I first started playing Morrowind on original xbox- I think that game's probably the one thats most Caster Friendly, since there's such a huge variety of spells, and the spell-creation system (as well as Enchanting and Potions making) were so much more robust. Also, they weren't tied to specific locations, so if you absolutely had to, you could do an emergency enchant or brew up a fresh batch of healing potions out in the wilderness. Plus, Flight. Nothing quite like Levitating above a group of enemies and sending a stream of Frost or Fire down on them from your enchanted gauntlets.
Finished Mass Effect 2. It was awesome... even if I sadly lost Kasumi and Samara during the last mission. Everyone else survived though. Admittedly the giant thingy at the end was a bit of stupid end boss, but whatever the rest of it was nigh on perfect.
