Those extra marble effect shields are excellent. Also like the shattered glass, where did that come from? Is it better than cut up blister plastic?

Oh alright I'll hunt around the 'ol bits chest and make some Mantis Warriors anything I should adhere to when creating them,& would Gits be interested in one as a gift from 'ol Nerdy? even though he already has Mantii (sic)
and Ruglud the laser cut plastic is much easier to work with than cut up blister pack it's already 'shattered' and you trim it off with scissors and then plastic glue it onto your frames, the sheet I pictured cost me $15- but it will just about do my entire village when I get my other buildings! especially as you don't have to do 'every' window!
Kingcracker! you're calling me a whore! hmmm I believe it was you who Skyped me desperately before your beddy byes the other day? and yes, you're right.... it keeps people interested lol, a Nerd's gotta do what a Nerd's gotta do eh! Oh Gits, you are too sweet! ;-) I'll whip one up one day soon and send him to you! any specifics you want? helmet option? weapon? you name it, it shall be done!
@Squig, the 'liquid' is actually a silicone that is 18x clearer than normal silicone I found in the shed in a tube used in a caulking gun, I mixed some green ink into it and it went similar to a stiff sticky jelly if you stir it around, it's hard to manouvre and don't drop it on the carpet! :-0

The main reason I skip pages in my old ones... There was a full page of coupons in one for a store opening. And the Mordheim one complete with that rectangle on the front that says "free miniature".

Yea I used to have some old WD that showed step by step how to build AWESOME terrain and even some vehicles they didnt make yet. It was incredible. Now.....BUY OUR PRODUCT MWAHAHAHAHAHAAA! Also, I still have the very first codex I ever bought, when I was 15, it was an IG dex, and I paid a whopping $13 bucks for it....infact it was $12.95 to be exact. Yikes, considering I have to pick up my sons Chaos dex for $50 But I will admit, current codices, have WAY more content in them so theres that at least. Oh and Damo, I slept like a baby BTW

O.k I caved..... I wanted marine statues...... and i went and bought 2x honoured imperium boxes! Gah!
so now, I've decided to paint the large statues as bronze and verdigris as suggested by Viktor von domm! but the quandry is now the shattered aquila's? one i will do in a black and gold flecked marble finish but what about the other? should I do another marble colour or convert it into a chaos type objective I can use in game to destroy?

Wow nerdfest. Just wow. Read through your entire blog....(and by read I mean looked at the pics) and I have to say its all amazing!
Your red and green painting are both incredible with their smoothness, Its made me very jealous and will have to redouble my efforts to get half as good!
Your marble is also stunning, its wierd (having read your blog backwards) seeing how you gradually got worse at it. (that sounds very harsh, but to give it context your latest ones are absolutely 100% perfect in my opinion whereas before they were only 90% perfect.)
You have also inspired me to give some scenery a serious try, the broken glass in particular is brilliant.
This thread has been subscribed to and exalted and ed.

Post by: nerdfest09
Oh J-Paint! dude, thanks so much! that's one of the nicest positive comments i've got I know what you mean about reading backwards and getting worse lol I love the fact that in a couple of years i've improved a fair bit and really enjoying the process of learning more and more! I gotta say your work is amazing too and I subscribed to see what I could learn from watching you paint ages ago, so i'm sure your influence is in there somewhere!
if you want someone to bounce ideas for doing things off in regards to strange painting ideas or terrain? i'm all ears and that goes for anyone who hangs out here and wants to figure something out!
I'm currently working on a Mantis Warrior for Gitsplitta and should have pics this week of him hopefully finished! i'm going to try something with him that hopefully will look cool!

First off let me say that I have been hunting for a decent marble tutorial for years. My search can finally come to an end.

Thanks guys .... and girl! :-) haven't really experimented with glazes yet, I tried the bloodletter glaze on some of my FleshEaters but the result was negligable so i stuck with the washes instead, I do have an idea or two similar I want to try with the MW :-)

Post by: nerdfest09
Heaps of stuff today! lots of different little things i have started and some finished! I hope it's not too eclectic and busy for you?
now, where do i start? with w.i.p or finished?..... let's go w.i.p but I suggest you hang around until the end of the post
My mate Tyraneil has a Nid army and wanted a Broodlord for his 38 Genestealers honestly, who has that many bloody Genestealers! really! so he asked if I would whip him up something he can use as one that looks a bit different to his other Genies, I obliged by using a Chapterhouse studio alien head on a current Genestealer body with old school arms which I cut and shut onto the body to give him a different pose, not a huge job but looks pretty mean so far! next is paint tomorrow

 Gross little fether isn't he!
Remember ages ago when I painted up my flamer template like roiling flames? well, I liked it and wanted to do something similar for my blast template, I figured a stage by stage would be cool in case anyone wanted to have a crack at it
firstly I primed white and gave it a generous coating of water to help the paint flow easily, then a few drops around of yellow ink:
next I dropped a drop of red at various places around the edge of the circle:
sort of mixed it in together starting from the edges so it's lighter in the centre (it is...really):
I then used a scrunched tissue and very lightly let the edges soak up some paint, then i dropped some red around the edges and followed the same method as before:
now a teeny tiny bit of black stippled around again:
then I took the black around again and added more red as well as white and yellow in the centre and ended up with this

Gitsplitta's mantis warrior totally pleased with him, except for the lenses on his helmet not my best work but I hope it's acceptable I tried a bit of fancy work on the shoulder pads! still yellow just decorative, even wrote gits hidden in the scroll on the other side!

and now my statues.... yes, plural! I bought 2 Honored imperium kits! and bronzed the statues up nicely, I have to get some clearer shots of them but here's a taste!

Lights painted on my speeders! breaks up the red a bit now
aaaaand lastly, I got a book!.... a thick one....... that apparently is good?
hope you like todays venture into moistbrushville!
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
For some reason the statue on the right... looks like he's got to pee!
MW looks amazing Nerdy! Love what you did with the pads!
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Thanks Gits ;-) glad you like him! I hope he stands up to scrutiny when you get him! the pads were great fun to do! I used them as practice as I have a Death Co. drop pod to do in a similar fashion! I did even consider painting over all his armour the same but green!
and I can see the need to pee statue too lol :-) I had read people don't like them as they are knock kneed, but needing to pee is a new one for me!

Post by: KingCracker
First, Mantis Warrior. Man those shoulder pads just fething set that whole model. What did you do to get that effect exactly? It just looks awesome.
Bronze statues are bronze. So good infact, that I didnt realize it was painted I thought to myself "Man they mold them that way?!?"
Aaaaaaand your wearing my wife's shirt! YOU BASTARD!!! Saying that, I should mention now that her name is Pam, and as a nic name from years ago, we all call her Puma. Crisis of bro banging bros wife, diverted

Many thanks my friends! I had a fun day just working on a bunch of stuff yesterday and today is shaping up to be just as good lol!
today I shall mostly be working on Pyriel's Sallies as well as the Broodlord and maybe some FleshEaters and a little bit of terrain?
and randomly it looks like Big Willy will be a permanent addition to the pack of Nerd Hounds here at Nerdington Manor! his breeder told us he is bottom the 'pack' at home with the other 14 samoyeds and when he gets shown the local judges don't mark him highly due to him being too big! so he gets a bit picked on :-( she offered him to us as long she may use him for breeding early next year! so of course we said if it works out we'll take the big fella and give him a good home! :-)
anyway I gotta fly and get my brush moist now....

But what kind of factory is it i hear you all cry? well, of course it's the 'only' kind of factory you need in the grim darkness of the far future, the hint is on the billboard....... what billboard you ask?...... the one if you juuuust scroll down a bit!
...... Rivets!

I had a buddy that had a CRAZY Optimus Prime fetish. On the top of his TV stand, was probably every Prime toy ever made. It was cool to look at, specially seeing all the different styles of Prime.
And your Nators are spot fething on man, very nice so far! Also, Ive turned my oldest brother onto your blog. Hes a SM player (for like 16 years.....ouch) and we were talking about something he was wanting to try and I said "Hey! Loved the blast template. Anything plastic is fair game.

Aurora & Casey! glad you dropped by for a cuppa and a biscuit Aurora try not to go insane when reading through my blog! it bounces around like a squash ball sometimes when I get the urge to paint another army that i no doubt get sick of and sell or give away and casey, seriously dude, i could pay so much more attention to details if i wanted too! but i'd never finish anything if i did that! my ocd wouldn't let me stop until it was all done! I think i've found a happy medium for good tt
speaking of models and painting (nice segway....right?) I have been sort of thinking of something new again but knowing my history of never finishing these new and usually grand ideas I've worked out what i hope is something I can and will stick too as well as something i believe others will want to watch? I want to do a HH era army using the old tanks and armour etc. originally my army of choice for them was going to be Imperial Fists, but i just can't drag myself away from the red! so, would anyone object to me doing Blood Angles in Heresy era armour? that way I can include Cataphractii Termies, Tartaros Termies and all the early mk's of PA! what made me decide on this route was my Contemptor, I love the model and how i finished him off but he just doesn't look right in my FleshEaters force but he's work a treat as the start of a HH BA army now I need to decide on if to update them here or start a dedicated HH BA thread? as well as try and find an army list for them to build to? (hint hint everyone...)
I think the finishing of my FE force and my HH BA army will be the focus for 2013 (providing the Mayans aren't right) I can start small and really get pumped and excited about it as i go, and the bonus will be if I decide to mix the 2 forces together it will work
next Thursday the Hammernators will be finished and photographed and i'm working on a stand in for Lemartes in my FE's just writing up a small description of him to give him some character and collecting parts to build him with just need to decide on a name now?

hey damo,
I think a hh era blood angels would look cool never seen that done yet so sounds good to me. Well if you have looked at my blog within the last few pages i bounce around to different projects all the time eventually i will get them all done. And since this is another marine project i think it ties nicely in with your flesh eaters. my two cents on the matter.

I think the finishing of my FE force and my HH BA army will be the focus for 2013
 guess what?
yes, I changed my mind again!
I saw a model and it wasn't for SM's and I got the 'I must have it' feeling which was the catalyst for a gelling in my brain that has so far not been spoken about in my thread (at least not at length)! so instead of doing a HH BA force I am going to play with a little bit of Nurgle love! i've been wanting the final push for a while and already have a few ideas with modeling which will be nicely epic! anyone who can PM me about helping work out a list? please do!
but in order to start the ball rolling I need to finance the new project with the sale of one of my own models I do love the mini but I just don't feel it works with my FE force and it would be great in someone's BA or successor chapter army, which one you ask?......
this one:
Should i put him up in swap shop? and do you think $70- is too much inc shipping? (or too litte?)

Honestly Id ask a little more. Especially if youre including shipping. The base model is something like 60 bucks for the body alone, right? Let alone a body, 2 arms, AND a great paint job. Id go for nothing less than $100

Post by: nerdfest09
I don't want to ask too much or appear I think my work is of a standard that high? so I thought roughly around purchase price may encourage someone to pick him up :-) but you're right as i'm inc shipping I should ask a bit more? I don't know where (or if) he'll fly off to! i'll wait and see what others say and then I'll pop him in the swap shop (unless someone wants him now)
Thanks for the input Ramos! :-)

Yeah in general I'd say the total of the parts and then double it, Its a great paint job so will most likely sell.
I just did the same with my Thousand Sons Raptor squad, worked out nicely. Automatically Appended Next Post: Edit: Forget to say welcome to the dark side
Plague Marines squads with two Plasma Guns each is the way forward. 2 squads of these as your base and a twin melta squad as your third squad for anti vehicle..

Post by: nerdfest09
Points to ponder! total in parts and double makes him about $140 Aus, which I think is heaps too much! I reckon i'll pop him in swap shop on my days off for $100- Aus and see if anyone bites so i can start my Nurgle army :-)
GiraffeX would you mind if we PM back and forth to help me work out a list I like? I have some things i want to include and build a force around fun games :-)

So, I have nearly finished my Hammernators! about 95% finished in fact but i still have to show you my progress because,....well,...... it's my blog and that's what i do
I need to just tidy some bits up and finish painting a bare head and then it's game over for another bunch of termies! i'll show you how they're shaping up before i get onto the heads.....

Well I spent all morning for about 4 hours doing some yard work to get the 'ol Nerdington Manor looking fantastic while I was trimming the roses in the front yard I saw a black car with black tinted windows roll slowly down my street veering onto the wrong side of the road as it slowly approached my abode fearing an attempt on my life i made myself really thin by sucking in my gut and standing behind a rose bush but I needn't have worried! it was just my friendly postal package lady (who i think i opened the door to one day after night shift with no pants on.....at all) .... anyway she handed me a box and then went slowly back down the street with dope smoke billowing from the cracked windows and the boom of subwoofers blasting out from the back with Ice Cube!...... o.k maybe not that last sentence I took my little box inside hurriedly to open and was happy to see it was from MadRobot miniatures I ordered two sets of heads to see what they're like!
here's the box!
inside was a couple of small zip bags hand wrapped lovingly by Steve and placed carefully as if he was putting a baby to sleep in a crib!
close up of the bald heads in their clear transport pod!
and here they are washed and out in the sunshine! really nicely done I may add! no flashing, crisp details with no soft looking areas and arrived undamaged!
Well, I simply couldn't wait to get a moist brush onto these baldy's so i started them and i was pleased to notice as i painted that they are all pretty standard bare heads but they each have subtle differences in expression and appearance which is nice, i may have liked to see a grimace, shout or sneer in the mix but i'm not complaining as it just means Steve can do the expression heads later for me to buy..... right Steve?
here's the start of my painting of them, i'll post a finished shot when they're all done next week for you.
and that's it for today!
if i don't get a chance to update before next week:
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!

Wow Dude! that looks awesome seriously good work on the marble! it's a great technique and once you've done it a couple of times you kinda wonder why you thought it was going to be so difficult lol yours looks like marble!! which is an excellent result i'd say i'm really glad it helped you out, now I need to see if i can figure out some other tricky paint things and make them easier
Whaddya mean the faces look finished? still more highlighting and a couple of washes away from done you guys should know me well enough by now to see me try and do them nicely so far it's tallarn flesh base then a wash of Ogryn flesh and agrax earthshade just down the middle of the facial features, and tallarn bleached bone highlight on the raised areas so far
So, what do i do next? what does peoples want to see me do?

That's about as far as I go for faces, though I am going to spend a little more time with the Grand Theogonist, since his face is so exposed. Also, the sacrificial lamb that goes on top of the altar has a lot of exposed skin, so I am taking my time with her too. I am planning on investing in expanding my paint/wash inventory this weekend at the FLGS.

got my very first ever NERF gun! it's cool as, just wish it was more powerful
and without even a hint or suggestion from myself, my beautiful nerd Wench bought me this!!

I hope everyone had an epic and relaxing day of family, fun, food & frivolity!
Tomorrow sees a Nerd chillaxin' at Nerdington Manor by his lonesome which gives me perfect time to do some painting (and weights and tidy my clotthes cupboard )

Oh my that is an awful lot of foam you can lay down on any unsuspecting paper targets that break into your home! :-) I hope to be able to do the same soon! and yes, I would like to mod this gun to be a bit more powerful and accurate if you know any tips? and is that Nerf Sai's I see?
GX the Marvel book is...... wait for it............ Marvelous :-) and I have been pretending to be Bruce Willis bursting through doorways and talking smack to the dogs in the next room before I kick in the door and blast them with foam bullets! they're not very impressed with me about it either! but Willy got me back by running at me and landing his considerable weight nose first into my crotch :-(........... so i shot him again :-)
Automatically Appended Next Post: Finished my MadRobot miniatures bare heads today I really like them and can't wait for the sneering yelling heads to get released! I also painted one up for my Hammernator squad to resemble myself which I added and must say he looks damn cool!

And here he is! the Nerdinator!

and started some area terrain with some barrels i have on it's way and still drying but should be sweet scattered around!

Not very exciting but I'm still glad I got something done today next time i get a chance to paint I'll finish off Pyriels Sallies completely (not enough to show today) and then I dunno what to do? maybe some Rhino's

Lol thanks J-Paint! i'm glad I twisted your arm! but you won't be dissaponted at all, I also believe if Steve gets hassled enough he'll be doing a similar set of scale heads but with awesome grimacing and yelling faces for some much needed action on our mini's! so you may want to keep an eye on his thread and wait and buy a bunch when they get done?

The termi is looking cool but thats a FW mini oh great Nerdmister I'm truly not worthy
As he's in terminator armour he will need to be a Wolf/Cat Lord so we need to work on his weapon load out a bit
Storm Shield is cool, the other weapon needs to be from one of the below though.
Combi Plasma, Flamer or Melta
Wolf Claw
Powerfist
Thunder Hammer
Chainfist
The choice is yours.......
You do realise as this will be the initial mini for my Celestial Lions I will need to copy that gold across the army
Some destructions on how you accomplished it would be most useful as its lovely
Edit: I cant believe no one is interested in your Contemptor though, here he is for Git's
Look at the pose on him, he really is outstanding NF09.

Wicked work on the Nerf gun! I got a Longshot a few years ago (very similar to yours, but with an extending stock) and did my fair bit of modding to it. Mostly putting a dart tag gun on the front of it so its kinda like a grenade launcher setup. Sadly its showing its age, and the internals are pretty chewed up... Was fun running around campus with em though!
Its surprising to see the amount of support people give these "kids toys". Stuff like that mod pack you got, and the fact you even painted it! I keep meaning to mess with mine some more- it's still rocking its factory blues xD
Overall great work!!

Yeah the 'ol Nerf blaster has crazy support and love out there from what seems to be people with a similar mindset as us 40K hobbyists! the thing that got me was down under we have as most know MEGA strict gun laws and as you should also know, most guys love shooting targets etc. so this way i can shoot targets and have some fun battles without having a firearm license, the fact that you can mod them so easily and actually get quite good performance is just a bonus! painting it up to look better was a bonus bit of fun for me! I'll update some pics when i install my OMW kit and re assemble it completely (I hope it works!) I actually am glad i left the smaller parts orange I think it offsets the shade of green well and it still is obviously a 'toy' gun but just a wicked looking one lol! I also just bought a bipod for it, and an 18 shot extended clip as well as a tactical light
Ramos, you need to have a look around man! you already have the dart gun so you only need to outlay minimal cost to paint her up and get her firing hard! then we can talk NERF!
GiraffeX yes dude that's a FW Lufgt Huron model as the basis of him and for weapon, it's no contest, looks like he'll have a wolf/lion claw as well as a nifty marble storm shield, I chose the most regal jawline from the MadRobot heads i have for him, I think it's pretty lion esque without going ott hairy and if I go back a few pages that actual model was what i used to do a tute on how I do my gold i'll try and hunt it up for you but it's really easy to do man, you'll bust it out easy as pie!
I also can't believe no one wants my Contemptor not that i'm trying to be pompous but he's pretty nice Oh well, I'll see how he goes and if no one wants him I'll strip him down and paint him as an imperial fist in a couple of weeks
No real updates from me today or for about a week as I've only got one day off then 2 on then 1 off for my 5 year anniversary with Kristy the Nerdwench then 4 on again!
but I'll be still Dakka-ing and hanging out here, it's just so relaxing and the weather's always good in dak-ville

Nerf started making a line called VORTEX that instead of darts, shoots discs. And MAN do those things go. My nephew has the pistol variation and I friggin love that thing, it shoots twice as far as a dart blaster. So if youre serious about shooting targets and such, you might want to check into one of those. Its basic ballistics....put spin on your projectile and it shoots farther/more accurate. Your blaster looks the gak as well, kindda looks like an IG Lasgun
14070
Post by: SagesStone
Also has to get a Maverick if he hasn't yet. It's like the standard of dart blasters and, by the looks of it, most commonly modified. Shouldn't be too hard to give it a little more of a punch.

Your blaster looks the gak as well, kindda looks like an IG Lasgun The Vortex line are more accurate at low distances, and quite powerful - but at range the tend to curve, and if there's any wind it'll pick it up. You also get interesting things on windy days where it'll follow the air stream breaking around a person, curving around them to miss when fired straight at them... For target shooting, I recommend the Buzz Bee Range Master - It's a Nerf Sniper Rifle 'proper'. Single shot, bolt action, unmodded it's accurate to 40-60 feet.

Define "accurate".
43229
Post by: Ovion
Can hit a target roughly the size of an apple / orange fairly reliably. Under 30 feet, it's my go to gun for an almost completely reliable nerfing. up to 60 feet, well, people can move out of the way, but I've still sniped my way through a few wars at about 50, with a 1 in 3 hit rate. Generally these days I carry my Barrel Break, Maverick, and Rangemaster. (and a sword and 'knives') Has me covered at all ranges quite comfortably. Sometimes my Longstrike without stock/barrel too... my fiancee has claimed my Longshot though. -_- Though soon, I'll be getting one of THESE: And I think that'll become a staple of my standard loadout.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
That's pretty cool Ovion (all of it). I had no idea people fought nerf wars... kind of like paint ball then?
43229
Post by: Ovion
Sort of... it's generally a lot shorter range, and light hearted than paintball.
It's good fun though, a lot of combat takes place at under 50 feet, the darts are slightly slower moving so you can dodge them, with a lot of cool guns it results in a kind of matrix-y sort of game.
And with practice there's some cool things you can do if you feel like being silly, such as deflecting darts with swords like lightsabers, curving darts like the bullets in Wanted...
The Rules we use in standard wars can be found here if you're interested, though I know that most places use slightly different variations.
I also know there's a reasonably organised nerfing community in the US.

Just a heads up on the painting of the Nerf gun, you may want to check your local laws regarding "replica" guns, there are places in the US where carrying a toy gun in public without distinctive identifying marks can get you arrested...stupid, yes, but whatchagonnado?

Hmmm yep, I though of that too and that's why i'm leaving parts the orange like the ammo clips, small sliders, breach cover etc. so while it looks like a cool painted rifle, it still has that subtle ovious toy-ness to it and also since i'm the only one i know with a Nerf gun, I will only be playing in my backyard .... by myself...... Oh well.....
Just modded my darts by cutting across the top using the little hole as a guide and filled the ends with hot glue just enought weight now to feel better!
and as Gits said "We now return you to your regularly scheduled Nerdfest...." I haven't had much time so far for painting but I have managed to matte varnish my entire army I used a can of Boyle's Matte sealer works great (so far) so we'll see how that goes, it kinda enriches my reds and makes them really look complete now, I moved my entire army into a large cupboard shelf to keep the dust off them, so now my little black Nerd shelf is for 'projects' yet to be completed!
speaking of yet to be completed i'm assembling my parts to make a power armoured Chaplain I have one with a Jump pack and a Termie one so i need to round out the options and this guy's gonna be special! I also have a 9 man DC. to build which he'll be part of and I'll pop them in a drop pod for fun!
Oh, I got a little box in the mail........ Forgeworld......... space marine tank crew!

Generally, legally, you need an orange tip to the barrel. Also, I'd actually be a little concerned about the darts safety wise now - you've effectively given them hard plastic tips, and with a modded gun, there's a reasonable chance they'll break the skin due to the power + hardness and potential for sharp edges, and at the very least they're going to bruise. I wouldn't allow them in a war for safeties sake unless they could be proven safe (Which I don't think they would), and I'd be rather worried about using it with any of my more powerful guns such as my Rangemaster, Longshot or Barrelbreak (which already sting with the soft tip.) For target shooting... you'll probably get away with it, but don't shoot it at people.

All this nerf gun stuff is very contagious nerd! I have been drawn into this new madness as well, (havn't painted any yet, but now that i've seen yours its just a matter of time!)
By the way was that gold terminator your working on come from your bitsbox? If so why on earth do you have that beautiful, (but more importantly hideously expensive) forgeworld body lying around unused!

Firstly, to Ovion, thanks for your concern dude but you needn't worry as I won't be shooting these at any children or people except for my mate who lives in another state from me and is the only person open to a game of 'adult' Nerf as I would be this will in all likelihood just be used on my days off work banging away at paper targets etc. and if i do ever play a game properly then I will make sure i have my 18 shot clip full of un-modded darts to be safe!
Now, J-Paint, you mean to tell me you don't have random FW bits in your box? I seem to have Huron's body as well as Culln's and you better keep an eye out for the Chaplain i'm building then as that uses yet another random bits body from FW!
and you need to get on this Nerf thing man! i'm not a young child and yet I am finding the modding and painting and tinkering with this blaster very enjoyable, it's nice to have and just pop a few darts every now and then, set up a target and while your paint dries on your mini's see if you can knock some chaos or eldar off the shelf Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh I also have found 4 pre heresy shoulder mounted resin lascannons too! Bear in mind with mods, simply removing the Air Restrictor is often a reasonable enough boost for regular wars, unless you want to go nuts, learning the science behind them and redoing internals. All my guns have the basic AR removal and a few minor tweaks here and there, but I just don't see the time and money I'd have to sink into them to get just on average 5-10-20 more feet out of it as worth it... Most of my guns average 40-60 feet flat, with more work I could probably up that to 60-80 feet across the board, but at that distance - if they see you they can dodge it. Hell at 40-50 you can dodge it without much trouble, and if you're trying you can reliably dodge at 10 feet. You also have to remember the payoff between range, accuracy and rate of fire. You can generally only pick 2. Nerf is a fantastic, addictive and relatively cheap hobby, and almost anyone who picks up a gun enjoys it. On a side note - what part of the UK are you in J-paint?

Hi Scipio, I know, I do get the odd twinge of regret sometimes but I am happy I finally have settled into an army I really enjoy and i'm in no danger of selling them off! well, all except that one model.....
I should have an update early next week with Pyriels finished Sallies Devs and hopefully my new Chaplain all finished (if the bits arrive in time) and I may start on a couple of rhino's that need painting too!

One of my favourite things about your blog is the occasional detours. Obviously your painting rocks and that's the bread and butter that keeps me coming back but the caviar that really interests me are things like your current Nerf exploits.
I just thought I'd tell you.
Anyway the Nerf gun is a cool project, it falls into an interest of mine that I like to call toycutting because it doesn't have a name that I've found.
I drew up plans for scratchbuilding an air rifle a few years ago but the project started to turn into building a firearm because I didn't set an upper limit so I kind of abandonned it. I think it's an interest a lot of guys have from a young age. My friends and I used to buy cheap bb guns and spends days shooting each other to bits in the local park as children. Even then I used to dismantle them, rifle the barrels and attempt to extend the clips and such.
Well that was a random but enjoyable trip down memory lane... Keep up the great blogging goodness!

@Casey: dude, i'm stoked the occasional divergences keep you amused :-) I always worry people just skim over the words and wait for models lol! if you haven't been able to tell yet, I'm one of those guys that finds something that interests me then goes totally full on and buys everything i can! usually it's 40k but the Nerf thing is cool, I just bought for my rifle a red dot laser sight, a bipod for the tac rail and a tac light for night Nerfing! :-) as well as some camo rifle tape for the grip and base of the stock and some reflective orange tape for the end of the barrel so it's semi legal! and i'm looking on ebay at the recon C-S6 I can get 2 in box for a really good price......

Haha! It is indeed an airsoft gun! It's an M4A1 SOCOM with a short barrel, an XM177 flash hider and Aimpoint replica red-dot. It's supposed to resemble the armalite from Blood Diamond.
Would love to have a Nerf gun- I can't exactly shoot the girlfriend with this ^^ because I'd never get a sandwich again... I am in the process of building a Kimber Tactical Entry II though!

What's up dudes! a little more Nerfy goodness and also some model supplies and a little shot of my cupboard shelf! sounds exciting eh!
anyway I went to Kmart and saw a Nerf Maverick for only $10.00 so of course I grabbed it and went about modding it
removed all the air restrictions and gave it the full open barrel trick and shoved 5 coins behind the spring for more power, goes a bit better for sure but it was the painting I wanted to get too! I also found some velcro and stitched myself a couple of straps to hold a led torch as a tactical light!
here she is:

Next up in the what's been happening to Nerdy story, I got some post today, and I was pleased to see it was my table top lightbox studio! awesome value and great quality too, so it's a 40cmx40cm light tent with a camera stand and 2 lights on stands and 3 interchangeable backgrounds, as soon as my Digital SLR arrives I'll try it out! I can't wait, I managed to win an ebay auction for a Canon eos 400D dsrl with lenses and bag and accessories for $208.00

And lastly while i was waiting for all my new furniture to arrive I dusted all my army and popped them in the cupboard to keep them dustless (or not quite as dusty) seems my force is coming along nicely!
So what's y'all been up to?

Haha, thanks man.
I'll be creating a dedicated hobbyspace in my house this year so I'm gathering ideas right now. I don't have a huge ammount of room so I have to make the most out of it. I was wondering if it was a glass display cabinet type door or something.
Plus I'm gakking mental...
43229
Post by: Ovion
Cost to Ammo capacity to Power to Fire Rate, it's pretty much the best Nerf sidearm you can have.
It's reasonably cheap, with 6 rounds, 30-40ft flat range and a decent size.
Personally I've found combining the Maverick with the Barrel Break (which effectively has the power of a Primary) is a great combo of sidearms - gives you the 6 shots of mid-range firepower, with 2 high power long range shots.
But a Longstrike + Maverick is a fairly solid setup anyway.
48594
Post by: dsteingass
During the Inter-Office wars, the stock Maverick and a Cubicle wall was the only thing between me and the enemy!
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Well, I'll be running the maverick as my main sidearm and the fairly heavy modded Longstrike as my dedicated range weapon! I have really sparked some interest in people that haven't even thought of Nerf wars lately and even my mate James and his wife are getting in on the action and buying Recon's to modify and donating their farmyard as a battleground! :-) should be great with us rocking laser dot sights and tac lights of a night!

I've decided to take another plunge into something different! and committed myself to the most manly of forces for 40k! yes, that's right! Imperial Guard these guys are so manly they can weave their beards into their pubes and play them like a harp
my quandry is scheme! as usual I want them to look the tits! and I'm thinking a light brown fatigues with darker brown cardboard armour, pouches etc? but i don't want it to be too boring, any ideas? I was thinking of adding camo pattern but I prefer the solid colour look, i've googled as you would imagine but nothing is really jumping at me (apart from trapdoors in my backyard, but that's another story) so any pics, ideas, hints, tips, free stuff will be appreciated
i'm about to sign off for the evening and i hope to come back tonight to a plethora of inspiration and chit chat! and KC you home monday my time?

I've always loved desert guard, even if its not tallarn. Though they are the pinnacle. The tanks especially look great in just one solid colour, no camo pattern. It's something I've really always wanted to do though I doubt I'll ever ever get around to it. It's been in my head for around 15 years. The rough riders were gonna ride cold ones.
....not mine sadly.

Post by: Imperial Monkey
I think that idea would work better if you reversed the colours, so a dark brown fatigue and sand coloured armour.
51446
Post by: J-paint
I think the brown could work well, maybe you'd need a more vibrant spot colour though, all brown minis can sometimes look a bit poorly defined, I doubt you'll have this issue though, your painting is more than up to it. Maybe a blue or green spot colour, (then again i'm biased towards green, seems to be my default when my imagination isn't working.)
(btw im incredibly pleased your starting guard, always nice to steal ideas.)
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Thanks for the input so far guys! I really hope i can produce enough ideas for people to steal while my marines are quite clean and don't have much ornamentation these guys are going to be kitted up and gritty! i'm even considering buying the FW masterclass books!
I won't be heavily converting any but I'll be using 3rd party conversion bits throughout to provide a different look, I have some cool ideas that play heavily on my skills i'm happy with, namely muted colours with strong bright lenses and sharp highlights,
Imperial Monkey, I really did consider that option too but I felt the lighter tone as the main colour meant i could follow more detail on the clothes without looking stark, the dark fatigues with the lighter webbing put me in mind of the old WW pics you see with the khaki and olive gear which i liked but felt it too similar to 'normal' cadians!
alanmckenzie, I agree with you too, the tallarn are great models and i wish FW did more than just the sparse few they have, but it's now going to be a pleasant challenge to create a similar theme with the cadians! make sure you keep me on the right track as i go!
Ramos, I'm glad your ass is always there for help! and you'd be right about that mini, I was going through my subs and reading Iffy's blog after i thought about the theme and her paint job sealed the deal for me! it looks great! my main fatigues i think will be a touch darker and more yellow as I'm planning on using The Army Painter desert yellow as a base.
keep the ideas and thought coming dudes! what about tanks and accesories? anybody know any aftermarket places to get some bits? mesh screen bedrolls etc?
This.....is....gonna....be........ EPIC!!! I can totally see myself keeping these guys!....... for longer than a month!

Awww sweet an IG build! The only army that I ALWAYS get excited for to watch!
Mesh screen? Goto the locla hardware store, and buy some window screen. Its super cheap, and is the same shtuff. Youre welcome. Tanks though....they need to at least be slightly dirty, even if youre going to that clean look, I mean tanks are heavy and burn diesel and are just beat to piss, even the ones sitting in front of VFW halls still look used. So at the very least, you need to make them look it!
AND! For one of the leaders of your Guard, you have to have him bearded. Its just the rules. And maybe a cigar.
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Oh yes KC the tanks will be showing signs of wear and tear and sand and dust and bodily fluid and leakage and oil and melted cheese and everything that should be there!
Ah, flyscreen mesh! duh! of course, it's all so simple.....
Funny you should mention bearded squad types :-) i' already planned to have a squad seargant Brandon Hammerbush in my force and of course HE shall be bearded, I will of course need you to clip and send me a sample of your beard hair for colour comparisons....... It was the sculpts that first attracted me to infinity. Still don't know how I'll find the game. Got my first demo games on Tuesday.
As for the name of your regiment? Something like what youve got. Probably not the best person to ask. My space marine chapter still don't have a home world... or a chapter master... none of the characters have names. It's all pretty impersonal at the moment. I'll need to look at that again actually.

First Update with pics for 2013! slowly getting into routine now and i should be churning through models and paint this year! so many great things on the list i am itching to do!
well, firstly I have finished Tom's Salamanders Devs finally! taken me far too long to do and i am apologetic for not finishing them sooner! you'll notice some pads missing but that's because he's adding his own sculpted ones to finish them off as well as his own bases, pics aren't great I was meant to get my new DSLR today but it didn't turn up and i was forced to use the phone again! *sigh* oh well maybe tomorrow?

and i did a little more for GiraffeX's Celestial Lion Chapter master/wolf lord! just got his pads and wolf claw sorted and based, he's rocking this season's latest fashion of a shaved down Red Scorpion left pad and a Chapterhouse Studios right one as well as a modified Lufgt Huron claw! I plan on finishing all the models i need to finish for other people before i start my own models this year, so now all I have to do is GraffeX's Marine and finish the banner on the Sons of Orar terminator for Kitch102 then it's my time!

not a bad day really, i managed to finish the sallies and get myself at least well organised for the Celestial lion and tidy the nerd lair hopefully the camera arrives tomorrow morning! i did get a package of a s.o.g Seal pup Elite fixed blade knife which is so sharp i actually shaved with it but that's not anything Nerd related.... that's just cool

Go for a camo on your guard. Desert Auscam (Desert DPCU) or "Coffee Stain" (DCU) are both relatively easy and look good. I did some on a small Ork Combat Patrol I never finished.
Hm.. I should dig out my IG in regular Auscam and photograph them. They date back to 3rd Edition...

Scipio I'd love to see your Guard dude! throw 'em up in here if you like so we can all see I shall also go and have a look at those camo designations you mentioned, I have already ordered the desert yellow primer from The Army painter so hopefully it will still be usable if i like the camo schemes? I do plan on dusty-ing them up but i don't want to use powders yet, but never fear they'll be grittier than my marines who obviously wash the filth from their armour with the warm blood of their foes

I'll see what I can do about IG photos, various bits of life's BS stopped me getting them taken today. I'll also see if I can track down the camoed orks as well.
I'm not 100% sure on the Army Painter spray. Google Images show it looking anywhere from perfect to way too yellowed. Also, be sure and test it out first, as per this thread on Warseer that I found (4th post)
http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?322532-Army-painter-desert-yellow-spray
DCU:
Easy to paint in our scale (unlike multicam) and still looks good. LMMV of course, so if you're interested you'd still be best doing a test figure
Desert Auscam (Desert DPCU or DPDU):
This link shows the 4 types, though again at our scale the differences are negligible. We just want it to be cool and/or recognisable
http://iacmc.forumotion.com/t2535-australian-dpdu-my-official-reference
The best thing about my IG was the number of "hey, cool!" comments I used to get when I took them to play at clubs and such, when people saw their camo was our Aussie stuff.

and thanks Scipio! that camo looks great, especially the first design I read the thread about the desert yellow spray and I will admit i'm a little concerned now about how bright yellow it will be, some make it appear a mustard like colour and others more of a yellow bone? looks like i just have to wait and fingers crossed!
Well, here's the celestial lion for GiraffeX

Thanks guys! he was fun to paint, I really enjoy doing things like this for people and trying to paint them a model they will enjoy next is the banner for Kitch's termie and then he's done too! that's my next days off work so stay tuned!
faces, skin, tricky tricky stuff but I tend to look at them in a way you might if you were painting a flat painting, using mainly shadows and highlights to give the suggestion of shape and detail, while you don't need to seamlessly blend each colour layer the thinner your brighter highlights are the better it looks as you can add a few coats quickly to get your results, the shaved hair look is pretty easy, it's just your base flesh tone with the hair colour mixed in so you can still see the main flesh tone shaded with the other colour and then painted on in a way to simulate a natural hairline, if you want to add stubble just water the hair colour down a little and sort of wash the cheeks and jaw with it. The main skin tones I use Tallarn flesh mixed with fortress grey as my base then add bleached bone successively after a wash of Ogryn flesh/Agrax earthshade to bring out the details. I'll do another tute if anyone wants? but I do think there's one a bunch of pages back in the blog? just can't remember where
Also just bought some conversion bits for my upcoming Guard army and guard players with any assembly/conversion tips for me?

All I can really say conversion/assembly wise (through my limited experience looting the vehicles ), is that Sentinels can be a pain. They suffer from tiny little ankles thatll break if ya breathe on em too hard! Not as bad as Tau, but still... You do get a TON of poseability with them though.

Indeed! I just picked up some flesh shade this afternoon (literally about 2 hours ago), so I am itchin to get going. I plan to use it on the 3-4 Wood Elf faces I have in the queue for painting (the rest have bone helms...

I'm still trying to get my scheme down in my mind for the IG and i've almost worked it out I think, so now it's input time from my mates
I was originally going to have plain fatigues on my troops, but after much googling I decided that a subtle camo would still work for me! as i've already ordered 'The Army Painter Desert Yellow Primer' it needed to work in with the yellowish sandy type of colour it is, I thought using the 3 colour desert cam as inspiration would work it's still quite light and gives me option to use some older pots of paint I have at home, i don't intend on making it 'exact' but close to it.
Next question is spot colour? shall I paint the armour/webbing a dark brown or black? and will it look good if i paint the helmets to match or should I paint them a contrasting colour as i sometimes see white or blue helms on peace keepers etc.?
So, as you can see i'm nearly there with my plans for the force, now i just need the force but any input would be appreciated, I am hoping to theme the army around a elite group of soldiers who mainly trained in dusty inhospitable climates and were unsupported for periods of time while they conducted rapid raids and insertions before being pulled out and re deployed.

Tallarns! If you don't like that, I would go with Dr H's idea. sounds elite, like the angry squig said, but easier to shade and highlight. maybe black webbing, though, because it makes more sense for the materials that webbing is usually made out of.

Dudes wasuuuuup!
Hey, remember how a little while ago I got a bunch of those cheap 28mm buildings off ebay from Russia? well, I finally put them together this morning I bought 6 sets and went about creating a variety of different structures with some length and height, it made HEAPS!! crazy enough now for an entire village of sad ruins for my troops to scout through!

I thought i'd also lay down the base colour onto my pile o barrels and i 'was' going to just do my usual trick of a base colour and weathering that's then dabbed with liquid mask and sprayed with another colour so I can pull the main paint off the mask to reveal chips, but as I started I liked the way the colours looked and started trying new things so I wiped a damp finger over the barrels each time I put paint on them and used this to reveal the base metal through heavy rusting until it looked right in my eyes! still a bit more work to do on them as well as the actual base and some shadow shading then it's done.

next one will be another barrel based theme, but i'm hoping to do a fuel pump refuel-er for my Guard!
and on a slightly different note, I was talking in Dave's thread about a boat my dad scratch built about 27 years ago, and it peaked some interest so I went to his place today and interviewed him about it and took a bunch of pics, the more I studied it the more I realised exactly how talented he is and how much effort this would have been to create! I'll put the pics up somewhere when I find an appropriate place for them

By the sound of it, you want to go either Tan or Coyote brown for hard armour and possibly webbing/plate carriers, etc
Ranger green is also a possibility (the colour of some of the pouches, second pic)
Black looks okay, but the pic linked above is a VBSS (Visit, Board, Search, Seizure) - aka naval guys who check out ships - camo not really a factor. I'd go for coyote myself, though. If you're making a LRRP-themed force.
For a nice coyote brown I mixed 50% Vallejo 923 Japanese Uniform WWII and 50% Vallejo 879 Green Brown into a dropper bottle.
For the 3-colour coffee stain uniforms, I've used (Vallejo) Pale Sand/Iraqi Sand, Deck Tan and Saddle Brown. Pretty easy to sub in others, though.
And yes, I need to photograph my IG. If I can find my USMC I'll photograph them, too. Having just bought a house and moved is awesome in many ways, but a pita when it comes to finding things...
Automatically Appended Next Post: If you want to get excited, you can try to "snakeskin camo" their helmets. I guess you could do it by draping some stocking material over their helmets tightly and giving it a quick blast with your airbrush... real troops tend to use scrim etc with a spraycan or two - even the plastic from a bag of oranges gets you the right kind of pattern, and I've heard of it being used. It also gets used on weapons.

Post by: nerdfest09
Wow, thanks Scipio! that was a great bit of easy to follow info for me! I think I might give the snakeskin helmets a go too, I believe I can get the look as far as the actual camo goes, i don't think I'll be aiming for an exact match to the Coffee stain pattern, more of a homage to the style so my patterns will be similar shades and larger splotches but not visually identical, although I will paint my webbing and armour in a dark yellowish brown sort of like coyote brown
The snakeskin is a great idea! something I personally haven't seen on an IG force yet (unless of course you post some pics ) I should have some ruined stockings at home from my last saturday night with KingCracker ..... I joke....... he kept ALL the stockings!!
speaking of KC, I want to get everyone keen!! including myself so when it all arrives I can get into it and always have something on the go for ya! and the way i've been buying stuff for it lately there's going to be something on the go for a while! so far I've got GW models for the main force to work with and parts for conversions from, Kromlech,Mad Robot, Anvil Industries and Forgeworld!
only thing i'm concerned with is the Army PAinter Desert Yellow primer lets hope it looks good as a base for my main colour on everything! The full boxed game is pretty expensive now, especially if you're planning on building your own corridors and tiles and using your own models. I was lucky to get one for £60 quid locally. I really like the armorcast one's. Kinda costly though. Maybe space hulk is a good place to start trying to construct my own decent terrain. It can't be too hard to make these tiles out of plasticard and things. And the small bite-size nature of it would certainly make it less intimidating.

I know, I know, you're probably right (of course you are!) I just have a strange aversion to using plaster? No..forget everything you know about Plaster of Paris-completely different stuff.. Dental stone is not porous at all when cured, it's smooth, but it does have a nice weight to it.

much more durable! you can tell by putting both casts in a plastic bag.. Cheap plaster like PoP will leave powder everywhere, Dental plaster will not. The fenris ones are resin casts. I suppose you could make them out of plasticard and wire mesh, I looked into it a while ago but have zero modelling skills so will be most likely going down the fenris route if I ever get that far or there's mdf versions by Warmill and another ebay seller.
I think the zone mort rules will work better or the kill team rules for a good skirmish game.

Oh my god, Oh my god, oh my god!! my army arrived! I'm so excited I started straight away organising it and cleaning it up
well, firstly here's what I scored of the Dakka swap shop (thanks Killjoy00)
3 chimera's
Leman Russ on sprue
a bunch of troops
2 sentinels and a command squad
2 nib valks
What else did I get today?...... Ooooh yes! MadRobot Miniatures heads & Kromlech running legs and backpacks!
So, after I gazed at my haul with a massive smile on my face for a while I chucked on some Molotov cd's and went about cleaning them all up and starting the conversion work! I started by running the scalpel over each mini to get the worst of the mold lines off them, then I cut the end of the lasguns off as well as the las clip and ripped their heads off then cut some rod and made a new barrel for the guns!
a couple of Vox guys had broken backpacks so i also fixed them up too

here's the Vox guys, I left the heads on a couple and used some putty to make goggles for them and I drilled out the spot where the aerial went and replaced them

a few sarges so far, colonial defense heads.... looking good!
Now, enough of the blurry photo's you cry! I shall now show you what else I did today! I nearly finished my barrel pile, just need to give it another dry brush and some more water effects and she'll be sweet!
and I got some more work on the mini for Kitch102, the main model is done and I needed to continue the banner for him, it's coming together I think and i wanted to get a kind of embossed satin look (sort of)

Phew! what a day and I've another day off tomorrow! what else can i possibly do

Thanks guys, the banner so far is pretty easy! just choose 2 similar shades and have the darker as the main colour, water down your lighter colour and trace on your design lightly, when dry go back over the design focusing the stronger colour on the top parts of the squiggles as if you were painting a 3d mini, next shade under the squiggles with a slightly darker tone, keep going over the design with the colours until you're happy with how it looks :-) I used the same technique when I did the sarcophagus on my DC Dreadnought....... just in black

I'm glad you think i'm off to a good start! it's a very exciting project for me! the theme i'm sort of hinting at is an arid force, so kind of desert, kind of dry bush soldiers with ochre and greens and browns I bought the lot for $300 inc post! which i think is pretty good considering the Valks are $96 each down here
Dave, what do you mean old skool? I never realised there was an old skool Leman Russ or Chimera's just goes to show how out of the IG loop I am lol! make sure you keep me up to date with any hints or tips! especially when i build the Valks I hear rumors they can prove troublesome?
Gits, I'm with you man! I never had the Guard urge before in all my hobbying life but once I got an idea using something I really like (MadRobot heads) I kind of get a flood of ideas and it just went from there! all i was going to do originally was see if i could get a squad from the swap shop to use the heads on looks like i got more than I bargained for!
I am also pretty suprised about the feedback on the banner it's my first proper freehand banner and I was focused on getting the eagle and SoO logo correct and didn't even think about the actual background or material of the banner until I wanted to do something 'easy' so i didn't have to try and highlight the cloth! turns out doing squiggles looks good eh!
well, today I'll fix up some more Guard and try and figure out what belongs in a vet squad? so far I'm thinking a sarge with 6 lasgun bodies and 3 plasma guns? is that right?
anyway I'll be back this arvo dudes!

Tank time! assembled Mr Russ today looks imposing I must say, now I just need to wait for the canvas bags and rolls to turn up so i can add some long range packs etc. then it'll come to life! I can feel it's going to be hard not to go ott adding stuff also another chance to use my heads from MadRobot

I've heard rumors ..... rumors that plasma is good?...... rumors that plasma is good in a vet squad! so fixed a couple up for use! I didn't like the stocks so i changed them out for the ones off the older style bolters.

what do you do when a tube of glue jumps out of the container and slaps you in the face screaming to use him? .... well, you use it!, you don't argue with glue eh! those tubes are hard arse!
so I grabbed some bits to make another throw down barricade, and it appears that in the belly of a war anything is fair game to soak up incoming fire! even dead cows!
and here's the kromlech running legs going to use them for my storm troopers squad to show them sprinting forward to places to give suppressive fire
gotta get some simple green to strip one of the sentinels tonight and then i'll get them sorted!

The onl;y difference you can tell between Chimeras is the thicker side armore plate (and all the road wheels you glue on-older kits)- they changed the tooling to be fewer sprues a few years back, somehow justifying a price increase for less plastic

Honestly, I think it would be hard to add TOO much to your tanks. I mean, have you seen some WW2 pics of tanks? Some of those babies had a trucks weight worth of add ons just to get to the party And honesty, I think plain janes make for boring tanks. All that stuff just adds so much more character

Yes J, I am hoping the star of the show 'Mrs Dead Cow' will gradually obtain bullet damage as I use the barricade in games
Glad the general feel is positive on the IG so far I shall now go ott with bags and crap all over them, what shall they have? sacks, weapons, fuel, rations, tools, netting, sun lounge, kitchen sink, ammunition, spare underwear?
seems my biggest first world problem is now that MadRobot miniatures is working on so many BRILLIANT bare heads I'm going to struggle to find units to make so I can use them I have beret heads for my storm troopers and the soudakadi heads on all my troops, colonial defense heads on my sarge's and vox guys and tanker heads on tank dudes , that seems like all I can use! and now he goes and releases a plethora, NAY a gamut of awesomeness! hey, anyone got any spare Catachan bodies and bits i can scrounge? gonna make a custom Marbo
Thanks for the info Dave! now i look at them closely I can see the difference, that was clever of GW to raise the price for less plastic! cheeky buggers! how did we miss that fact for so long
and last random question, if I am building a Sentinel from the sprue, what should I give it to be the best option? keeping in mind I'm going to build my list around Vets squads and Vendetta's, things like that! I kind of like the look of the flamer but I'm sure I won't get anywhere near close enough to use it

When it comes to sentinels its really easy just to magnetise them, the weapons all slot on on the same place so Its a diddle. (if you are feeling very magnety you can also magnetise the roll cage and the armoured top so you can swap between scout and armoured sentinel too.)

Have you considered putting a coat or two of gloss coat over the liquid parts of your little diorama? Might make them look a bit more natural & stand out a bit more.

is that a cow in 1:35 scale?
i recently got me a coach in 1:35 scale and the horses are way too big for my taste...just wondering...
your lil conversions are looking very cool!
and all that for 300$??? more like a robbery it seems^^

Lol, yep 300 squid! I bought all the conversion parts etc. but the main force I got off Killjoy00 on dakka :-) and you would be correct that the cow is 1:35 scale, she's a bit big, but hey, it's the far future and it's an alien cow?
Gits, the liquid actually has 2 coats of water effects over it but the reflection kind of ruined the effect :-( hopefully I'll use it for some pics with IG later and it'll look better :-)

1:35 is 54mm- Inquisitor scale, you can use 1:35 elements for our scale, but you have to be very careful that it isn't something that is an obvious scalebuster like animals. I may have confused you guys with my strange 1:35 kit projects as of late, sorry.

Um, yes, yes you did lol :-) but never the mind Dave, just means i've got a bunch of 1:35 stuff to send you!

You can get away with using them, it just takes a bit of thought. in 40k, everything is BIG, so the 1:35 fence kit (once emblazoned with an aquilla) scales up or down easily, since an iron fence IRL, is not always built of consistent dimensions of materials- you can get away with it. Animals, however ARE built relatively the same, so they become scalebusters when put next to a 28mm heroic figure. Humans have already built super-heavy tanks, so we all already have that plausible deniability that a 1:35 tank kit can work in 40k.

Yeah, most i've bought does work as it's got no discernable scale busters, but the cow was just too cool to not get lol, I can imagine the smack of shots into it's body while shock troops take cover behind being spattered with flesh and blood and the stench of methane and voided intestines permeates the air! ...mmmm makes me hungry!.....not!

sooooo....if i somehow make my horses look like alien horses would i get away with them being bigger than 28mm scale? like giving them horses a thicker fur all over?... the coach i have would be a real cool thing to be using for my chaps...

I'd say yes why not! you could say they're Grox or some other large alien herbivore? would actually be kind of fun to make them look alien without going overboard so they still look rocognisable as beasts of burden Automatically Appended Next Post: and before i forget, in one of my Vet squads would it be a viable option to have the 3 special weapons as flamers? I have a couple that came with the army and if they're good i'll use them otherwise I'll have just have plasma and melta squads?
