I'm not really into blizzard anymore but WoW just never really interested me. I'd much prefer warhammer fantasy to WoW any day of the week easily. Probably the only reason why I didn't get warhammer fantasy online is because they didn't really feature any of the faction I liked. It's just bog standard humans, dwarfs, elves, orcs & goblins and other boring factions. Dark elves sound kind of cool but I would've preferred skaven or vampire counts (though making that small scale with vampire counts would be tough). A more out there army would be preferable. I know skaven were featured at one point but I'd rather be skaven off the bat than randomly turning skaven or something.
As far as blizzard goes it's not what it once was in my opinion. Starcraft definitely could've been improved if the fan-base wasn't so anal about things like selecting their workers and have them mine properly at game start. If rts's weren't pretty much dead thanks to a lot of bad crap happening all at once you'd realize starcraft is way behind on keeping up with other rts's. If people were so anal about splitting up marines they could've had a button to throw them into loose formations depending on how far you spread a mouse click. It's not that hard to imagine they could do this easily. However it takes 'skill' (a million button clicks as fast as you can) to split up all your guys fast enough in order to lose fewer to things like banelings.
As far as diablo goes I got the third one and it was alright. I heard the expansion fixed a lot of what was wrong in it which may make it worth a buy. That said I wasn't particularly interested in the expansion because the hero they introduce is boring to me. This was totally unlike diablo 2 lord of destruction where you have to kill and stop baal and you get the assassin and the druid which both seemed cool. I'll admit this angel of death character sounds alright but it seems weird to me.
So I dunno blizzard just feels too competitive and sadly enough most of what they make now just isn't interesting enough to make me want to compete in it. That said when the starcraft 2: legacy of the void game comes out I will lose my sh*t and buy it. Protoss were easily my favorite faction in starcraft 2 whereas in starcraft 1 it'd probably be the terrans. The zerg aren't that fun for me and I dislike them.
I'm not... even remotely sure what that video was meant to imply.
I had fun playing wow years ago, but I'm past the point that I could really enjoy it anymore, or any other mmo for that matter. I fondly remember the raid nights in college munching my hastily gathered Chinese takeout, but have like zero desire to do it ever again. Kind of working that way with FPSs as well.
Apparently I can still play jrpg ''tactical'' games though so I'm gonna get back to that Agarest thing. It hasn't done anything creepy yet, more or less standard anime/rpg plot with an abundance of well-drawn characters, of the 'soldiers but not wearing armor because manga' persuasion. So far the tactical aspect of it has been limited to moving my characters a couple of squares, turning them to face directions that aren't at the badguys so their little magic link square things activate and they get to do team attacks.. for reasons. I miss the final fantasy tactics with the elevation and the other things. The little thingy up top with the portraits arranged in order of the turn sequence is nice though, and the voice actors seem good enough.
Jumping in to see whether Final Fantasy XIV is any good.
An old guildie suggested we try it, in place of our weekly LOTRO sessions.
Otherwise, it's Starcraft 2's expansion. I got it 2 weeks ago, and rushed through the campaign. I'm one of those who runs every missions lots of times to get the achievements. It's pretty good, and should keep me going for a month or so more.
A buddy of mine just recently got into Minecraft, so we were talking about it last week.
Needless to say, I got the MC Itch, and started a new map this weekend. And I actually decided to play Vanilla. I can't remember the last time I played Vanilla.
I loaded up Skyrim with, at least count, 37 mods (which are actually compatible) and boy, it's a whole different game. The big one is Requiem, and it makes the game a great deal more fun in my opinion. I really hated the lazy levelling system Bethesda relies on in everything (though Fallout 3 was less obnoxious about it) because they can't figure out a character progression system which isn't broken (i.e. makes the player slowed powerful, thus needing to level the enemies to keep the game remotely challenging).
By curbing how powerful the player gets, and making everything in the game legitimately lethal, I actually have to think about each fight I get in to. Walk in with little armour and an iron sword against Draugr, ancient undead nords? Guess what, you're going to die. Go in with Ebony full-plate, ebony bow, a decked out companion and a personal alchemy shop? Well now you can kill them 2-3 at a time. See a Deathlord? Run for your fething life.
The mod's main stated objective is immersion, and gameplay modifications to the little things, like the little game notices which pop up in the top left switched to first person, such as "new location discovered," to, "I'd better mark this on my map" all make the experience much more enjoyable.
Hell, I actively avoid dragons, rather than hunting them down for new shouts and valuable dragonbone.
I also like all the D&D inspired counters in place; skeletons and undead can't be criticalled, sneak attack or otherwise as they have no vital organs, arrows do feth all to most undead unless they're enchanted to do so, dragons use a single set of breath abilities matching their colour, so you can actually prep ahead of time to fight them, with their attendent weaknesses, werewolves really don't like silver weapons, you have to stagger vampires to be able to do serious damage to them, bows are lethal to anyone in no or very light armour, but someone in full plate gives no feths, all sorts of things like these to learn and find a way around, even if that involves running away.
Also, merchants have more than 300 gold, how much is dependent on the relative wealth of their location lore-wise.
I'm having a blast, but can't help but wonder why Bethesda couldn't take even some of these ideas into account? Challenge based around lethality, not having billions of HP, game lore reflected in merchants and local enemy types, smithing and alchemy and such improve based on how sophisticated the item produced is, etc. It boggles the mind what modders can do, for free, with a handful of people that a studio with a budget of millions with a hundred people will cut corners around. And it's not like they needed to create a new engine; how old is Gamebryo? 11 years old?
What's actually sorta sad is that almost all those things were around in the third installment, Morrowind. They've been steadily stripping the non-combat, non-Main Quest Lore out of the game, turning it into almost a GTA-alike, focused on making you feel like a God of Combat. You can see this in the removal/simplification of the Speechcraft actives- in Morrowind you had to weigh your persuasiveness against their stubborness and how much they liked you, if you failed, they liked you quite a bit less. You could Bribe, based on your mercantile stat, but they'd flat out not accept bribes lower than what they thought they were worth, and, again, failing a bribe was insulting. If you were physically imposing or impressive, you had a bonus to Intimidate, but they'd practically hate you next time you talked to them.
Armour was expensive, and came in enough pieces that you had to either steal, grind, or find treasure you didn't want in order to get even steel armour before mid-level (though things like Netch leather, Chitin and Cloth were super-cheap). And heavy armour actually seriously weighed you down.
Actually, a lot of what Requiem adds to Skyrim it's really adding back in from Morrowind, including the various Undead features- I think they also were immune to poison....
It's kinda sad that Bethesda isn't seeing how the running and out-smarting your enemy stuff is as much fun or more fun than the 'smash face' style of gameplay. A dagger-using, poison-making Rogue shouldn't be able to do anything to a dragon in straight out melee combat. It'd probably help if you could maybe follow dragons back to their lairs and catch them napping.

They did still have a perk (though it took a LOOOONG time to get there), as they do in Skyrim, where at a certain level, if you are wearing a piece of armor, it doesn't actually count as weight in your inventory.. I've sort of noticed, through out my time in Skyrim and Oblivion, that it seems that in Oblivion the divide between light/heavy armor, if you focus on one over the other is greater than on Skyrim. (Ie if you've been running around in Dark Brotherhood garb for the past 30 levels, you're going to have a significant drop in armor rating, if you put on that set of Steel plate armor). There is still a divide, but it's more that they've leveled the combat abilities of your enemies in Skyrim, so while the armor itself isn't much less when you change over, the "perks" of wearing one type over another mean you're gonna get hit harder.
I do agree with that last bit though. Skyrim heavily favors the two-hand wielding, or axe/sword wielding armored fighter over the rogue or even "wizard" type characters. Even with my 30x damage bonus with a dagger, there is absolutely NO chance that I can one hit a dragon (I'm currently at lvl 33 or so), but I have one or two hit just about everything else up to a Draugr Death Overlord (I do have to wonder, later on, do I meet Draugr Death Overlord of Doom?? or Draugr Deadly Death Overlord? they seem to keep adding on more and more words to the creatures)
So my Nordic friends are made peace with Swadia. But they are now at war with the Vaegirs AND the Rhodoks. (They have several places around the Rhodoks from the Swadia Wars)
I've also ransomed 2 Swadian Nobles for over 6k total.
I like doing the little voluntary mission where you break the prisoner out of a keep, it's kind of tough sometimes but that makes it fun, and you usually get a lot of points with the individual. And a lot of cash if it was an errand from another lord.

Man, I just got Skyrim for the PC after seeing one of the Lets Player's I follow go through with a bunch of mods (the survival one is BRUTAL) and now I find this. Sweet baby jesus I'm in heaven, here's hoping it doesn't conflict with my other mods, Nexus had a bunch in the top 25 I really liked.
Might have to find and load Requiem for myself once I get this playthrough over with. 95+ hours so far on this character and I aim to complete everything - and I mean everything. Get every skill to 100, every perk, everything.
And at 95 hours, I'm nowhere near that. Still, sneaking round in double enchanted Dragonscale armour with a double enchanted Dragonbone Bow and Dragonbone arrows, with an Alteration skill of 95, Smithing and Enchanting at 100 at least means that I ought to level up my other skills fairly quickly.
Breaking news! The Kingdom of the Nords has made peace with ALL here enemies! That's right folks we are no longer at war with ANYONE. (Party balloons and confetti)
(Secretly upset because raiding towns is so profitable)
So I played it again, and it happened again earlier on in.
So I gave up on it.
It's a nice game but definitely not worth it for all the bugs in it.
I know that most people say the modding of it for PC is where it is at so I missed out on that, but if the bugs are anywhere near as frequent, I just cant see myself getting as involved as I did in a game just to have my progress corrupted.

I've never had that issue, and I've put 250+ hours into my game. Weird.

I have heard this from a number of people. And it is wierd, its always in a different spot. Though there was one spot where I couldn't open a door or the game froze. Seems like it triggered off when the guy behind it cast a spell because it would make the "casting a spell noise" and then freeze....

Were you keeping up with your patches? I ran into a fair number of freezes and crashes (heck, my game forgot how to load textures a couple of times) when I first started Skyrim on PS3 (on launch day, motherfethers! ) but as I've patched it with the official patches I've had fewer and fewer issues. The game still freezes on loading screens from time to time (rarely, but it still happens), but that's what you get when you buy a game from Bethesda.
More Project Zomboid. Damn, I can't wait till cars are implemented. At the moment I've near exhausted all the lootable locations which I can make it to and back to my safehouse before it goes dark. I'll probably have to move to a new location soon enough (I'm eyeing up the Motel), but what I'd really like would be just driving out to where I want to go. Not short distances sure, but like from one side of town to the other. I've just found out that sledgehammers can be used to destroy just about anything too and well ...oh the possibilities (no more fricken table taking up space in the middle of my safehouse. Heh, and maybe I'll knock through all the walls in the motel and make one massive storage room). Anyway, great game which I like to drop in to every now and then. At the moment I tend to have a playthrough to check out all the new features and what not, then drop off till the next major update happens (I think the latest one's going to be adding weapon mods, so I'll probably stick around for that. ...Not like I've ever even shot a gun in single player anyway).
I played it about 3-4 years ago when it was super basic. I cooked soup and killed my wife in the ensuing fire, I then wandered into the street but the fire attracted zombies and I git pushed back into the house.
I burned alive being eaten by zombies that day... That was the day I knew it would be a great game in the future.

This sentence is full of so much win I can't even come up with a word to describe it, I'm laughing hysterically at work and people are looking at me like I'm insane.

I need to play this game.
It really takes some getting used to.
It gets worse when my wife was sick in bed and almost got raped by bandits. She then helplessly died in her bed, because I wanted warm soup.
back when I played that day, I also got in trouble ( I was in english class back then) and the people around me all started playing it.
Beat a campaign of 'endless space' as cravers (I was fighting horatio). I feel like a noob for not even realizing the freaking tech trees options I was researching for the longest time without a quick little zoom in to find out. I wish I had known that sooner. 4X strategy is just a little weird with that.
It's so weird that without my opponent calling for a cease fire and giving me money and territory to not attack him i would've lost the game. It's funny because in many ways I was out-maneuvered and esp. the first time I used all the money he gave and the new territory to re-build to attack him again. Not to mention being in cold war allows you to attack somebody in neither area of your influence so i could just attack his outposts that have yet to turn into colonies as well as his ships stationed outside his influence zones and totally be ok doing it.
I'm wondering who I should play as next. The rock dudes sounded interesting but I'm unsure. Perhaps the sophons deserve a play or the sheridans or whatever they were called.

Is it worth waiting for it to get better?
Its improved since it first came out, but I wouldn't say buy it just yet as you'll soon find yourself without anything to do. Well I mean the game's about surviving, but the devs haven't added in enough in depth features to keep my own interest beyond a few playthroughs. Its a good game as it is at the moment, but it could do with more base building options, the ability to use generators, vehicles, and well just more ways of surviving. That and the map's still about a third of the size its planned to be, and well even though its already pretty big (there's three towns at the moment), an actual city (with sixteen story plus floors) plus Fort Knox itself are due to be implemented at some point.
And yeah, there is a multiplayer mode available. With the latest patch spawning issues are being sorted out, though its up to the server owners whether they want to use them or not. At the moment its the case that if a server's up for more than a day then players will probably manage to clear out an entire town of zombies without too much trouble. So as a result servers are reset every twenty four hours or so, making base building a bit redundant. Zombies respawn at the moment already, just in small numbers, whereas the devs are trying to sort out a way of having them turn up in hordes for players to take care of (the problem is that they can't have zombies wandering about in packs off screen as it takes up too much CPU, rather they just spawn in ones or two as you enter an area). I'd say if you're looking to play online host a server with your friends rather than going on one of the public ones. Least then you won't be wandering around for half an hour searching hundreds of zombie corpses for some sort of viable weapon ("oh look a pen! I am your god now!"), or heaven forbid a piece of food.
Ah, and yeah, if you're find with just trying to survive for a few nights the game is decent right now. Once you make it past your first month or so and are pretty established then you might be wanting more content though. If you're methodical then you'll clear out an entire town of loot in no time, and then well, what're you going to do? The game then becomes a farming simulator pretty much. That's why I'm hankering for cars to be implemented just so the player doesn't have to walk for a few hours along a highway to reach the next town. Come to think of it though, it would be pretty cool to camp out on the roof of a skyscraper with a farm and all (I'm picturing the rooftop farms from the comic DMZ here). That and it'd be an interesting experience to pop a wheel or have your engine overheat whilst driving between towns, only to hear a rustling in the trees, or catch a wandering horde (after the map is initially loaded zombies only spawn on Highways to simulate them wandering in from other areas, so the roads can become a death trap).
...Right, anyway I'm off on a tangent here. Oh, and another thing to wait for is Radios. They're planned to work as a way to tell players about crap that's occurrence outside their control. "This is The Governor, the water supply to Knox Country will be shut off within five days", or "This is the US Army, we will be conducting a live fire operation in this area via attack helicopters. Citizens are advised to stay in doors" *bomb dropped on safehouse.
Hmmm, yea I may wait then. The worst thing, for me, in any game, is it getting too easy. If a game can remain hard without boringly leveling up my enemies (weak orc, ork, strong ork, big orc etc) then it makes me happy.
If they manage to fix the zombie issue and keep the options good for long term, then i'll get back into it. Long term options are what sounds like is needed.
At the moment I think they need to do something about player characters gaining strength, etc over time. Well that's in the game to an extent with the skills, but something which would allow you not to be a wheezing wreck after killing two zombies would be cool. ...Especially as that means you don't have the energy to run away from the other three behind it. The game's set up so you're nudged to not fight the zombies bar with the odd routine clearing out a house. The ones in the street can only really be handled with a shotgun, and well as the devs say "if you're firing a gun be prepared to deal with three times more zombies than you first expected". It'd be cool that as a late game goal you could kit out a humvee with a ram and go to town running over hordes (...though quickly find out than hitting 100 zombies doesn't do much for the vehicle's durability). I understand the game's aim to be in the style of the old Romero flicks, but I seem to remember some silly scenes like that in those too (even if no matter how many zombies were killed off there was always more). I'd like if the end game was about clearing out an area for you and some NPCs to inhabitant, but I suppose that once you reach that stage the wouldn't be much to do. Considering the devs said the only ending they'll make is for the PC to die, the choices of late game scenarios are a bit limited. It'd be nice if once you found a vehicle you could load it up with supplies and chose to drive off the edge of the map to see a kind of high score system (How many days you survived, zombies killed, the number of NPCs you've made friends with).
Edit:
Heh, and I thought this was funny. That game needs more suicide options. My favourite one? Eating a dozen jars of mayonnaise (one jar makes you feel depressed, a dozen sticks your character into full "let it all end" mode) then jumping off the roof. The next survivors to come across my PC's corpse will probably be confused, though give it a month and they'll be cursing the other guy for eating all the polonaise.
Yeah, Bleach is a type of food in the game. It gives you positive effects, and well the devs had a chuckle at the number of people that thought "hey, that stuff might cure my infection".
Finally picked up Space Hulk. Ah, the memories. I wish they would introduce the Bolter mechanic to the tabletop...aka jam your weapon on a 4+ every shot
Mayonnaise eh? I like the idea of suicide in game because it's a cool way to end the story. Having the only option of waiting to die by Ai (shameful) or quitting annoys me. Sometimes I don't wanna find creative ways to kill myself ha.
mayonnaise is definitely a new way to do it though!
It'd be a nice feature if you could truly eat yourself to death. Just sit their and glut till you have server indigestion and be sick everywhere. ...Ok that doesn't sound like a fun way to go, but it'd be an interesting option. That or just overdose on alcohol. If the only ending they devs are willing to provide is death then why not be creative? Hmn, I wonder if you could take the hand break off of your car, jump out, then sprint ahead of it and lay down on the ground? Ah, yeah, right, might be being a bit too macabre here. Bleach and mayonnaise it is then. Heh, I'll just wait till character's emotions are fully implemented (at the moment for the most part they just serve as fluff, without actually doing anything). When your character says they feel suicidal it'd be cool if they actually did something about it beyond your control (and hell if it gets so ridiculous levels they might well just walk into the middle of a horde with their arms splayed). Oh the possibilities...
Agreed. You have 2 options. Live on (endless) or die. How you do those are up to you. If you choose death just chug the mayonnaise and choose your way out.
Anything from the samurai death to death bashing head in wall then waking up as food for a zombie or putting your head on a bear trap etc.
Optimistic characters live on. The incompetent get killed. The rest die at their own hand to end the suffering.
When NPCs are implemented I'll probably go the route of just assuming my character lived happily ever after and delete the save. Ie I'd build up a little settlement, have all the amenities for them to survive and clear out most of the zombies then think "yeah, there's civilisation restarted. My part's over. Have fun". There'd still be the change for a horde to turn up on their doorstep one day, but its not as if bullets are hard to come by, and well if you have a settlement there's nowhere to run to, so unloading on them's the only option unless you want to lose everything. Hell at the moment I have about 300 shotgun shells just sitting there that'll never be used. the one time I decided to bring a gun along with me it just proved to be a dead weight. Sure you can kill a fair few zombies with those six shells (hmn, though the way they fire they're more like slugs) that're loaded, but then what? What about the twenty other zombies behind those and the bunch that've been drawn to the noise? Straight into the backpack the shotgun went and out came the axe ...before I made a quick exit down some back streets. Now a pickup truck with a .50 cal would be cool, though knowing the devs they'd just love to see the look on your face when the thing runs out of fuel, or you realise that those armour piercing rounds can sure kill a lot of zombies, but those holes in the horde are going to be filled again in no time. Still, pintle mounted .50 cals sitting about your base would be a neat end game goal, even if they do cause more problems than their worth (I have the feeling that guns in that game really are only there for all or nothing situations. One day that fire axe of your's is going to break however...).
Id be happy with that too. Though I have a feeling guns would be made far more useful if you had a vehicle. If you drive away correctly you could lead the horde off somewhere else and just deal with the nearby zombies that hear your car as you get to your destination. Kind of like a zombie hit and run mission. The guns will require more brains.
NPCs will be necessary for the games future if they dont push the multiplayer heavily. There is another game being made much like zomboid but its more settlement focused and has many NPCs. Same concept but similar to the Fallout Brotherhood game in its style of play. If it ever comes out (looked at it last year) then that will be something that will interest me.l
You mean State of Decay, or another game? Personally I prefer playing games with just my PC, as well having to take care of NPCs is a bit of a chore. I'd be more into Survive the Nights whenever that's coming out as it has plenty of things to keep you interested already without having to add in a complex NPC interactions systems. I have a feeling that mounted guns won't be implemented in Project Zomboid as they'd make the game easier like you described. There's not much effort in running and gunning. So even though a person could sit on the back of a pickup truck in real life and spray their gun, that may not be what the devs are going for (the again how accurate is an assault rifle when fired by someone with no experience with one out the back of a truck going 60 mph?).

Sounds like its the one, it can get tedious controlling a party but I much prefer being in command of things. I am not a lone wolf. I love team work, well implemented plans and so on. After playing Dayz I no longer feel safe consuming when nobody is there to watch me back. I prefer human players by far though.
I dont think its what they are going for either. The temptation to rush into a store while a guy waits in the car guns blazing only to drive off again sounds like cake walk. But this could be countered by jamming guns and driving conditions etc maybe. It could work if well implemented.
Oh yes it could, but at face value its perhaps not something the devs would be interested in. I mean that it could be a good system, but it would take effort to implement. Cars were originally a "maybe", though with the increasing distance you need to travel they're a future plan. GTA: Project Zomboid is something that's up to modders to implement though. I prefer not having to deal with NPCs as they wind up being a handful to work with most of the time. Multiplayer's fine, but show me a game where there's an NPC that can predict what I want to do before I do it and cover my ass when I am. At least with a person you can give some complex orders (well perhaps not order, otherwise you'll find a spoon jutting out the back of your skull), but an NPC is left with basic things like "shoot your shotgun as loud as possible whenever you see a zombie then alert a horde to us. When I complain lose 60 relationship points and try and kill me". I'm not looking for amazing things from Project Zomboid though as there's already a better game shaping up which has an art style that I'm more into (yeah, Survive the Nights). As long as it gives an interesting experience and holds true to its original aims (a Romero style survival game) I won't complain much. If it doesn't lose itself to the community demanding things the devs don't agree with it should turn into a decent game (which means, for the love of god, quit making requests for necrophilia you nutcases).
Modders are the best things that happen to many games. If the basis is there, modders can enhance that. But you are right, devs dont want the basis, modders cant expand on it (easily). It has potential, but maybe the maybe file is where it will stay.
I strongly dislike AI for those very reasons. But in the Fallout Brotherhood, you actually control the party and I am very sure in the other zombie game I saw, you control the party too. So you properly implement the skills, talents, gear and weapons of your party. Of course it struck me that this is not possible in a non turn base game. So you are right, in zomboid NPC characters will be a hindrance. Their cold calculating brains will not be able to comprehend the larger picture. They simply see zombie and calculate kill which = bad.
If they stay on focus, a great game will come. So yes, no fan requested necrophilia is very much appreciated!
Downloaded, and put about three hours into War Thunder. Had tons of fun playing the arcade mode. I did play a couple of the tank missions, and found that to be pretty fun, too.
My only complaint - It takes forever to unlock anything But, even with entry level bi-planes, you can still put up a decent fight.
Levels 2 and three are just slugfests in War Thunder. Rockets, bomber teams, insane cannon and the beaufighters....Lots of fun, which side did you pick mainly? I'm USA, German and UK. I don't like the Russian tree much (Developer favors em) But I enjoy both the US tree and the Germans....
I went with those damned Ruskies I always thought the Yak-series of fighters never got the proper recognition it deserved...but it appears it'll be a while before I get there! Haha. My brother was telling me that Level 2 is when things start getting really entertaining.
I figured either the Americans or the Germans would have the best plane selection. I have the Germans and the US unlocked, but I haven't started using them yet.
I have just finished the Mass Effect trilogy. I have never played them before, have been sat at my PC the last two weeks. They were great!! I know there was a big controversy about the 3rd one, but, I think because I never played them when all the hype was on-going and that the fact that I DL the extended ending I thought it was great.
After feeling withdraw symptoms from Mass Effect been playing Space Engineers. I cannot stress enough how much I love this game, anyone else playing it? You build spaceships, space stations, mining craft, fighters, anything you can imagine. Its a bit similar to minecraft in that you use blocks, but the graphics are better. will leave a wee video so you can see yourselves. Now to build a 40k inspired battleship
I started Child of Light last night. At first, I was put off by the flash graphics and "girly" style. But the game has really drawn me in and I find myself actually caring about the characters and wanting to spend more time with them. The world is beautiful and the gameplay is nicely de-stressing.

So... a mix of EVE and Minecraft? How do the building mechanics work? Is there combat or just building?
I am interested in Space Engineer's concept but have always been reacting with a "Yawn..." when seeing images of games in space. Ya think it might still be a good pick for me?
I suffer from Minecraft Syndrome when it comes to Space Engineers in that I look at what other people have built, then at the pissy little thing I've made, then at exactly what I can do with everything I build, and I suddenly lose all interest in playing it any more.

Have they added any more gameplay elements? I know they were supposedly adding a survival mode or something... does it have any progression at all?
Space Engineers is still sorta in its infancy- I think it'll really come into its own in large-scale multiplayer, but currently the netcode is a little buggy, so you only really have stable gamplay in singleplayer modes, and with a non-infinite world that's pretty much just asteroids of various sizes, exploration is severely curtailed.
Currently, I think it's sorta in a 'larval' state, like Early Alpha Minecraft, where Creative Mode and just making interesting things and figuring out the systems is the primary focus- though I could totally see EVE style massive player-run space opera stuff after a while.
Not really interested in multiplayer for it right now... and I'll NEVEr be interested EVE-style "Everyone is a massive dick and loves pvp" style multiplayer.
Ugh, if they plan on EVE-style combat where everyone can just roam around and destroy the stuff I spend hours on, then I want to stay away from the game. The internet is full of horrible people and I prefer to keep my distance :/

At least the majority of the internet isn't as bad as 4chan.
I have to wonder how the internet is as bad as it is. I mean I meet people in real life and some are jerks but plenty are nice too. The internet seems to have a higher jerk ratio than real life from my experience. That said there are good people around.

So in 'endless space' I've been playing the hissho or however it's spelled. They're basically alien bird people that are about sacrifice and honor and all that good sh*t. I only went up to about turn 50 with them so far. They have a lot of traits that make them good fighters so i'll need to focus on military with this one.

Anonymity. The internet would instantly become one of the best places on earth if there there was no anonymity anymore.
Started another Skyrim playthrough, with a Breton mixing one handed, destruction, restoration and possibly other magic trees further down the line.
This time, I'm trying to take playing in character even more seriously. The short version of his backstory is that he's been forced to flee his homeland amid a political court intrigue, and having been initially appalled by the barbarism of the Nords, he finds himself settling into this new world and plunging recklessly into far too many adventures.
I'm trying to play as 'realistically' as possible, sleeping at night and trying to properly establish a home as something more than a gear-dumping ground.
I tried playing the Reqiuem mod for Skyrim, got my face beaten in by a single bandit over, and over, and over, and over, and over, then decided it wasn't worth the trouble.
Apparently the internet says you're supposed to start sneaky and with a bow. So THAT'S where I was going wrong! I was trying to play the game as if I had a choice!
My nation of New Zealand has started a Nuclear Arms Race with the United States. Many wars are being fought in the 3rd world countries and the bigger powers are struggling to hold their furthest territories in the world.
Since its an archipelago with 80% water on a HUGE map Navies and Aircraft are vital and they battle the seas for control all the time. Air Craft carriers are vital.
My people have turned to Communism as democracy has failed them after the 150 year war with the lesser nations. With the major threat of nukes and the horrid amounts of pollution being spewed out into the land, people are turning away from science and the world it has created.
I suspect a nuclear war with the USA in the next conflict.
The year is 2327 roughly. Resources are starting to run out, global warming does not exist yet, people are starting to starve and populations are finally declining.
The golden age of life on earth has long since passed. (1994 was the last year the world was near perfect).
Yeah that's a fear I have of Requiem, it's geared up so hard you have to play by its rules to the point I probably wouldn't have fun. I don't mind some extra challenge, but if *any* character is supposed to sneak around with a bow... kind of lame, at least to me.
Paradigm, sounds fun I'm doing a Crusader: heavy armor, destruction, restoration, 1/2hand, block, something like that. It's quite fun to sword a bunch of bandits down and then whip out fire in both hands to torch the guy with the bow who's just out of reach.
I think when the winter rolls around I'll do a no re-loading Imperial profiteer, basically a pickpocket and burglar. No fighting and probably little magic. Gonna work through all of the in-town skills and build himself a fortune, running if confronted so he'll pack up a lot of stamina.
Got started on a new game of the awesome mod Call Of Warhammer for Medival 2 total war Kingdoms.
Dear lord almigthy! How glorious it is to see literary thousands and thousands of howling Orks and Goblins die by the hands of my Dwarfs! I may have been tempted to start a new WHFB army me thinks

You start off with a rifle, and you can add Gatling guns and rocket launchers to your ships and vehicles. Seen people on youtube having dogfights. It is still an alpha so lots more to come, some really good mods as well, excited to see where it will go.

Don't worry the U.S. government's working hard to spy on all of us so there will be no anonymity anymore .
Might be true since one forum everybody was anonymous at. Then again I think it's lack of rules too. If there are no enforced rules you just have a bunch of people lighting cars on fire and peeing em out. Too much freedom turns into anarchy which is also bad. Course there always seems to be at least one mod on every forum that I feel abuses their power or doesn't give two sh*ts about the people they mod. I dunno maybe it's a tough job too though. I feel bad for some people with thankless work but they did choose to do it so there's that.
@Trondheim: I'm rather curious about that mod but I don't have medieval 2: total war anyway. I love warhammer fantasy. What armies have they modded into the game btw?
You know if I remember correctly there was even a total war mod that featured the Zelda universe and you got to battle with those armies. I found that rather interesting actually.
I wonder if anyone has done a study on that Day Z game, it's pretty much the same as EVE just free for all.
I suspect people will form groups for safety, either to gang up on weaker players, or to protect themselves from such gangs. I think that's how it worked in EVE right? You join a big group, maybe get a ship, pay your dues, toe the company line and then if someone ganks you they'll have hell to pay.

So in a sense you're forming a society. This is basically what people have done since the beginning. Strength in numbers and all that and plenty of other advantages.
Yeah, that's why it's interesting. I think they did studies of WoW back when that weird event bug/disease was getting out of the even/raid/dungeon and being spread around and people were reacting to it like they would an actual outbreak.. or something. I only read about it vaguely the one time (cool story brah!).
Right, anyway, the niceties of society won't arrive until later, you may find people opening shops of crafting from the relative safety of a player made village, dependent on the other players for survival items but with more free time to craft neat things. Just like RL. It's kind of neat but I dont' have the time to get into something so potentially complex lol.
They have done studies into the game, ling time ago but I know I have read some.
The studies tend to show what you expect from memory.
I found people who where part of a group where awful, but loners tended to be nice. Even when we had a group going, I noticed we got nastier and nastier. (I.E snuck behind people and axed them to death when they thought we where letting them go etc.) I guess you start getting sick of treated badly so you start doing it to others.
A phase that went past quickly though.
Another thing I noticed was, when we fared for our lives we started panic killing. Like if we managed to live out an ambush, we would kill on site after that.
It takes a few bad deeds in that game to start someone on the path to badness.

Fights over resources tend to also drive people. People like to imagine they're beyond their primal instincts but everything is really just a more complex version of it. Just because our safety is more guaranteed doesn't mean we wouldn't revert back to a more chaotic state given the right circumstances. Gotta wonder what it'd bring out in people. Maybe there's some sides to ourselves and others we're better off not knowing and never finding out esp. because they've never been tested.
As far as things go I find too many people tends to make them harder to control and tends to show an increase in *ssholes. I always notice the smaller a forum is for instance the nicer people tend to be. Also the more you drift into off-topic the worse people tend to be (possibly because it's political and more people post in it).
Another thing I noticed, was when people had everything in the game, they started hunting down the less fortunate.
You would have teams of armed guys who have enough food to last forever wonder around gunning down the helpless.
There are, many, many things people do, and many reasons why, and that game highlights that. But there are trends. I know I do things out of fear of losing what I have, but I wont pretend to understand any other reason people do things.
On your last comment though, big groups of people, and a lack of direction = some nasties showing up.

Yeah, there have been huge amounts of progression Mel - Survival mode went in months ago and they do an update every week or two at most. It's pretty solid now. And as far as forced PVP - you can literally turn off weapons and death, and/or set up a private or friends only server if you are afraid of griefers.
I've been messing around mostly in creative mode since I want to wait until they get some truly huge maps before I start another survival playthrough - I had a really elaborate asteroid base and mining/pirating setup.
Back on topic more I have been playing the bejesus out of some Rome 2 ever since I found out that the Radious mod apparently rips the civil war right on out. That mechanic had basically ruined the game for me and now I am having a flipping blast.
Man, when they finally have something like infinite generation going, I'll probably spend a couple months putting together a giant Maw ship, able to swallow and drill/grind entire asteroids at a time, and just cruise around eating rocks and making resources.
My character, Ashiraya Sunblade, is imprisoned by the Argent Crusade and awaiting judgment. A big public trial event will be held on the 19th - 21st. She is accused of committing various terrible crimes in the guise of the 'Black Queen'.
In any normal situation, execution would be the guaranteed result, but this is not a normal situation and there are a few things working in her favour. For example, the fact that she sought out the Argent Crusade and surrendered willingly, to the surprise of the Crusaders.

In said trial, will she suddenly break free and slaugther the mewling fools where they stand?
Anyhow today I felt the urge for some mindless violence, so I reinstaled all the F.E.A.R. games, good times good times indeed spent shooting clones, evil supernatural zombies and what not else
Has anyone playing Mount & Blade Warband had trouble rescuing multiple prisoners at once? When ever I tried it they turned against me and I had to knock them out to escape.
Oh no, USA launched the first Nukes against my nation of NZ. My satellites intercepted many nukes, but at least 400,000 civilians died in the attack. I responded with my whole nuclear arsenal. The world is at war again. The beginning of the end of the world has started. A thousand years earlier than usual...
Rescuing prisoners? I havent done that quest before.

Played just a bit of wargame on the main soviet faction with a buddy before the game crashed. So many good weapons in their arsenal and i was mostly using helicopters. You'd be surprised just have crappy most helicopter armies were of the world in the 80's-90's. I had a crazy score like 3k kills compared to his 1k something kills and normally he does better than me. Must've been all the helos i had. I have a recon akula to scout ahead and launch missiles at any anti air with radar detection weapons. I use them mostly as good scouts now and use other helos which have a bigger payload of anti-air missiles (probably 8 per helo) for my anti air work. I also chose a helo with 12-16 anti tank missiles which are also pretty awesome. It also helps the infantry i deployed via helo transports take ground fast and well. For now soviets still have worse targeting and systems than the americans in many ways though seed rockets for recon akula's is pretty awesome. At least americans normally go with small size to be harder to hit and less multi role on the ground whereas in the air the only real multi-role aircraft is the apache. Sadly american helos don't have the AA on helos that the soviets often do so if you want to unload your force somewhere you may have to do it with stinger protection have a couple planes in to help should the enemy planes come around.
I always played aircav as americans in Wargame. A horde of cheap bombers, a crap ton of infantry in cheap transports who zoom to the all the buildings and just quickly unload and hold them.
My allies would just do the offensive fighting while my men where huge road blocks backed by air support. Was a lot of fun that game. Unfortunately it gets pretty repetitive.
Doing a second run through of Dead Space 2 to farm some achievements (upgraded weapons, airlock kills, finding that damn Ping statue...), and the third just came in the mail!
Trying Requiem again as an archer... it's really no easier.
Stealth shots only work within a certain distance, you do no damage at all to anything bigger than a wolf with a stealth shot, and without a stealth shot you simply just do no damage.
I tried to stealth shot a frostbite spider that had spawned next to Riverwood, and I took off about 1/50th of its health. It turned around, poisoned me, and the world turned into an acid trip that physically hurt my eyes.
This is an awful, awful mod that removes things and makes things harder in the name of 'roleplaying', but then removes any sense of roleplay by forcing you down certain paths if you want to even try and enjoy playing. Main quest? Can't start Bleak Falls until you're mid-levelled because Draugr eat you. Oh, and if you're a sneaky archer? You're fethed, because undead are immune to arrows unless they're silver.
Trying to play a melee character? Good luck finding enough low-level stuff that you can actually kill. Oh, and notice how you took 50% of your health as damage in that fight? I hope you brought a lot of health potions, because that's not healing on its own. You don't have any health potions because you used them already? Oh well, time to re-roll a new character.
It's like the mod is trying to make difficulty = a better game, but all it succeeds in doing is making Skyrim probably worse than Dark Souls when it comes to trying to play it. I've played Dark Souls, and it's annoying but doable if you can figure out attack patterns and think, but Requiem is only doable if you get lucky.
Requiem is a lot harder than Dark Souls. Archery is absolutely necessary at low levels. Against enemies with light armor or animals, it downright wrecks face. It does nothing against heavy armor and undead (understandably so) so I recommend taking THW as well; preferably a maul.
Always, always, always take at least one perk in Restoration. It unlocks a passive HP regen. It's not much, but it fully heals you when sleeping. Insanely useful.
Requiem forces you to be less of a one-trick-pony (unless you're a mage). Mage is easier-ish, but has a rough beginning too.
I love the mod because it's that hardcore. It's never unfair, it just makes the game "as you see it". You basically are nothing but a mere human and if you get smacked in the face by a THW, you die. Stabbed 3 times, die. It's like a drill sergeant shouting "YOU SUCK SON" at your face over and over again, but you always get back up and do one more push-up. Just one more.
Oh, and always remove gold weight. That's just stupid.
Oh boo hoo, no regenerating health. I bet you'd be upset if your magicka didn't regen too, and you couldn't figure out the first effect of potion ingredients until level 25 Alchemy too.
Heh. Requiem is pretty much "Morrowind feel for Skyrim players". I remember trying to do the main quest straight through in Morrowind. I got to a similar "fight through a haunted crypt to find an ancient artifact to prove yourself" quest. Thing was, the crypt was in the Ashlands. And about 10 levels above me. I was slaughtered, over and over again, before finally realizing that maybe I wasn't quite ready for that.
Anvildude wrote: Oh boo hoo, no regenerating health. I bet you'd be upset if your magicka didn't regen too, and you couldn't figure out the first effect of potion ingredients until level 25 Alchemy too.
Piss off. Non-regenerating health is fine, but having to rely on scarce health potions because every fight you're in can and will cripple you is ridiculous. Even Dark Souls had plenty of Estus Flasks, and you didn't have to rely on blind luck to not get hurt.
It's a good mod if you're a masochist, not if you're someone who expected a bit more of a challenge than vanilla Skyrim and instead got Ballsack-Kicking Simulator 2014.
Why should I have to take points in restoration and magic in order to play what calls itself a roleplaying mod? That's not roleplaying, that's forcing someone down a certain path if they want to actually play it.
Anyway, I can tell this is going to go nowhere. You and anvil like it, I don't, and we won't be able to change anyone's mind on the matter.

I quite enjoy playing WT as the Russians. My Lagg-3-8 and Lagg-3-11 will shred the skies, and if you made me angry I will take out the I-16 and use my rockets on you.
Also still playing WoT again and watching my win rate skyrocket. Had an incredible T29 match last night where I earned Radley-Walters's medal (8 kills), Kolobanov's medal (stand alone vs 5 enemies and win) and Pascucci's medal (kill 3 arty) in the same game.
Oh, I'm not trying to tell you that you're playing it "wrong", you can't play a game "wrong". Just pointing out that there are means around it. I think that not healing automatically is what adds to the RPG elements - you don't suddenly start healing just by standing around. You have to take a rest or rely on potions or magic.
Roleplaying should not mean that you can do whatever you like and will succeed easily with it - that's normal Skyrim

That's good news. I'll have to see if it goes on sale again, once I get a bit more spending money. Anything not already dedicated to Got tapped out recently sadly.
How easy is it to run your own private server, like you would for a singleplayer minecraft game?

Oh god Arena. You know it took me two days to figure out how to cast spells? And those stupid rats, just hanging out on ledges waiting for you to try to climb up.
Loved how the weapon controls were actually bound to the motions of the mouse, though. That's something that I think would have been neat to expand on in the series- would've made the Elder Scrolls an awesome game to Occulus/modified wii-mote VR stuff. You know, forefront of gaming and all that.
Still, I find it hilarious that after all GW's advertising and pushing and babying of their 'flagship' Spess Mehrines, the thing they've created with the most societal clout... Is ORKZ.

Thats because they don't mess with the Orks as much, so it has less of a chance of being ruined.
Right now Im not really playing anything, as it is a bit of a dry spell in PC gaming releases. (I mean GOOD PC releases. Risen 3 isn't good.)

It took me a week of play (keeping in mind that this was during school nights at grade school at the time) just to get out of Daggerfall's first dungeon.
Aside from Total Annihilation, that was the game I spent the most playing, followed closely by Might and Magic: Gates to Another World and Quake 2/3.
Kinda diggin Insurgency at the moment. I suck hard core, but every now and again I'm a stone cold killer that dominates the enemy, and sometimes my own team when friendly fire is on.

Yeah, It's a pretty fun game.
Also, decided to get the Xcom expansion and doing another trip through that.
For some reason, I find myself unable to play anything else than a Paragon.
Going around doing stupid things and generally being a dick to everyone just does not feel like something Shepard would do, and taking a middle road punishes you a lot since in most cases you will lose out a lot of charm/intimidate advantages.
Been playing Warframe again (had a 10 hour binge on it today) It much better than what I remember, yes its very grindy and the PVP aspect can be seen as Pay2Win as you can buy credits and such but its 90% PVE co-op so having people sink a load of money can be somewhat beneficial for you as a group.
Still a long way to go before I get the Warframe I want, you get 3 pieces for each Warframe from a boss in a certain area, low and behold that I need to do a boss you can only access by getting 1-use keys for. Still, its great fun getting up to that point.

Go Arcane Warrior, it's hilariously broken! You end up being an unstoppable killing machine that easily wrecks any enemy.

I'm still in Ostagar, and I already do It's like playing a warrior, but with explosions and self-healing.
Aye. It gets even better with the Arcane Warrior specialization. more armor than a tank, full plate, THW, increased damage...you just mow through the enemies.

Right now Im not really playing anything, as it is a bit of a dry spell in PC gaming releases. (I mean GOOD PC releases. Risen 3 isn't good.)
Actually Dakka isn't a 40k invention. England used it in WWII when talking about machine guns.
If you watch Blood Diamond, Leonardo DiCaprio is phoning for an attack helicopter and says "Bring the dakka dakka." He isn't referencing Warhammer 40k.
Edit: Also watch "The Battle of Britain."

Oh dear, that could not have been fun. I suppose its a reason I always end up playing Dwarfs in Dragon Age games, noting like barreling trough the hordes of evil minions wit plate mail, axe and a snazzy amount of magical goodness too

Advantages that are very significant, I'll add!
Yeah, the one thing I found sort of annoying about the paragon/renegade system was that it penalizes you for being reasonable. "No, it's not ok that he shot that guy, but I would've done the same thing in his shoes." sort of choice versus "You shot someone! OH MY GOD! Call the authorities, let's start a charity, #someonehelp" and "You shot that guy? Pffft. I would've shot him because of his pants. Pants that color deserve death. I've killed kittens because they meowed at me. Also, you're ugly."
But I'm with you on the overall feel of the game, ME2 was awesome.

It's a very good example of poor and lazy writing. You pointed out the exact flaw: being "evil" means being evil for evil's sake. Which is stupid. To me, the "evil" solution should be a more pragmatic approach. While Paragon is the "I will do everything you ask of me!" type, "Renegade" should be "I have a goal. I will do anything to achieve it, even if it takes downing some civilians.". Even a Renegade wants to save the galaxy and how does killing a bystander for no reason contribute to achieving said goal?
The main problem is the downright idiotic Good / Evil system. A good game should remove it completely. Make EVERY decision a DECISION with its own consequences instead of making every decision a "+X blue points" or "+X red points" choice.
Heh. I remember in Kotor II- I was literally unable to go Sith, even when I had decided on it. Not because of any mechanical limitation, but because I just couldn't do the 'evil' thing. I'm too much of a nice guy, I guess.

But that's the way Renegade plays, largely. It's pragmatic and ruthless, with a side of douchebag towards Bioware's sob storytellers. It's perfect.
Or it would be if it weren't surrounded by other Bioware writing, anyway.
In the end, things people might consider "pragmatic" often are dickish by comparison to other options. Of course, this depends on whether or not you consider the short term or the long term-- a lot of Renegade options, to me, seemed more like pragmatic short-term solutions to problems (quick and easy victories, bullying, etc), while Paragon options were pragmatic looking towards the long term (building allies, getting people to think of you as a hero, etc).
In the end, with the exception of one renegade interrupt in ME2 (think: fuel tank), very rarely did renegade stuff appeal to me.
Skyrim again - wielding the silver great-sword Peacegiver I am taking the fight to the vampire menace. And in time of dire need I unleash the fury within and start tearing the undead apart as a mighty werebear.
It's cool - my current character is a Nord hunter and associate member of the Companions(previously infected with the Werebear curse - which is why he preferred to live in the wilderness) who was nearly killed when vampires raided Whiterun, and so he began actively hunting them. He found a vampire plot to take over his adopted home town of Morthal, which he put a stop to. That showed him how they are a real threat to all of skyrim, leading to him joining the Dawnguard.
Currently running mods to enhance immersion - realistic needs, immersive patrols, frostfall, immersive hud, immersive armors, bandolier bags and pouches, climates of tamriel with supreme storms and volumetric fog, trade and barter, real shelter, wet and cold, etc.
I love all the extra armors - wearing an outfit that fits my character the whole way through the game? Yes please.

I have always liked the way the Witcher handles things in this regard. No morality points very few good or evil choices and you often dont see the effect of your choices until a few hours later.
In the first Witcher game you come across

Very much so. I prefer to favor Nilfgaard on everything, as they at least aren't all corrupt, incestuous, bastards that hate non-humans

I'm glad so many people hate elves. They annoy me so much. I'm actually rather unhappy Tolkien was so fond of them.

As far as gaming goes I've been playing 'endless space' which is fantastic but a little samey once you beat it a few times.
I started trying to play galactic civilizations 3 but it's in beta and most of the game is under lockdown for the beta. Honestly I prefer 'endless space' which cost much less. As it stands the game is too much like half a game or one quarter of a game. Space battles are resolved instantly without cinematics of the ships fighting, the only way to win is pure combat based (no economy, influence, technology, etc. victories are possible), the game starts off with you in auto-war with the A.I. players with no possible trade of any kind even available
That said there seems to be a multiplayer feature to galactic civilization 3 which is rather interesting. Also there's a new feature where you can spend points on being pragmatic, good or evil with various boosts for each one. The choices are given for every planet you colonize similar to what they did in galactic civilizations 2 except all planets have it and they have long term effects if you throw enough points into a feature. Basically a choice on a planetary level good, evil, neutral gives you galactic points for your choice. Choosing good on a planet gives good points basically whereas neutral gives neutral and evil gives evil. So it's a balance of what's good for you on the planetary scale and what's good for you on the galactic scale. This seems to have a lot of promise.
Also I'm pretty sure this is different now but I think population and happiness effect things much more than they did. They show how much your unhappiness is giving negative modifiers to your planet (so far from what I can tell over-population and negative income can effect this). It also seems that farms are important in several ways. Farms increase population but it seems that being near the limit of your population actually forces the over-population negative morale modifiers which makes sense but I don't remember galactic civilizations having that (it was more based on how many people were on the planet rather than how many could be supported and how close you were to that amount).
Another important feature is that I think depending on population of a planet it effects all production as well so you can't expect a low population planet to produce infinitely more even with a crap ton more factories. I suppose this makes sense as well but it's going to really focus more on farms and reproduction facilities.
Starports are now in space instead of on a planet and they are very much vulnerable to attack (possibly too much so in my opinion). You can select sponsors for your starports (planets that provide industry) and the farther away they are the less industry they can provide to build with including some which don't provide anything. You can have multiple sponsors per starport so 3 planets could be helping production for one starport. This would seem to work out that you may want to have a couple factory worlds in close proximity to each other for such boosts.
There's a few things you can choose to do instead of building on a planet. For instance instead of building you can increase income, increase research, increase birth rate and increase approval rate with certain activities on the planet. I'd like to joke they probably throw a spring break party for the increased birth rate feature ;P.
Another negative feature seems to be that the game has unreasonably high requirements to play without much in the way to actually lessen graphics or anything that may make things run infinitely smoother. I'm finding my game running at a crawl.
My opinion on galactic civilizations 3 is definitely wait. The lack of features now is a big deal being in beta and all. If I could run this more smoothly I might change my mind. If you don't think you can run the game then definitely wait until there are better features to lower graphics and such in the options menu. Honestly if you want a 4X strategy game get 'endless space'. It's a complete game and last I checked it is much cheaper, runs better and doesn't feel like a beta test or alpha. I honestly feel the beta test was a bit premature since things feel so incomplete. Anyway you'll thank me later provided you even care for 4X strategy games.

Also should you play Galactic Civilizations 3 you absolutely have to update your video drivers! I found this out the hard way.
Fired up Space Marine and beat it again, I avoid the MP like the plague as I can't stand it. But the single player is a blast, I love butchering me some Orks.
Also reinstalled Doom 3, fantastic game. It's held up pretty well considering it's age and it's still creepy as feth with surround sound headphones. Upside down human head spiders hiding behind monitors FTW!
Also, can anyone speak to the quality of Company of Heroes? I've seen videos and such but never had the chance to play it. Worth spending a few bucks on it?

Dark Souls 2. And I hate boss fights with multiple guys, especially so close to one another(Sentinels and Gargoyles)

I'm fairly sure it's a mod.
I might be wrong (and often am) but on Solstheim (sp?) via the Dragonborn DLC there is a guy that's a Werebear...and I could've sworn you could become one via him. Then again, I'm almost always a Werewolf so I could be completely off base.
So I fired up RE6 to see how it looks on the new TV and ended up downloading a patch that unlocks Ada's campaign from the start (never did finish Chris' story)... so I started playing that.
Wow... her campaign is the anti-fun. I have died so many times and for so many stupid reasons that it isn't funny. I never had this level of difficulty playing any other character. I'm liable to /ragequit and go back to Samurai Warriors 3 Extreme before too long.
Another reason to join the master race, and swear allegiance to the computer gods
Become one of us...one of us...one of us....
And blast! I'm usually flawless with Skyrim knowledge! As penance I will now do a play through on Legendary wearing the starting clothes and using Unarmed...as an Argonian.
Just started my first-time Witcher 1 playthrough on the Enhanced-Directort's Cut Edition-thing. I like the combat system, it's a neat little way of meshing action-style combat rewards (chaining attacks together for more powerful combos) and RPG sort of strategies depending on the opponent (the stances). The story seems pretty interesting so far (I've only just finished the fight at the keep in the beginning), I can only hope it get's better.
Its a fantastic game. The biggest complaint is usually the battle system but if you get on with the battle system you should love the rest of the game. The effects of your choices often wont be clear until an hour or so of game time after you make them.
The things where you've got to push a button at just the right second to get away, or knife them in the eye, or so on? Yeah.... those are lame, like... anywhere.
Maybe if I were watching a movie and they popped up it would be cool and immersive, but screw it in a game.
Now the events in the walking dead game where you had to randomly mash buttons to survive, or repeatedly thwack a zombie with an axe, or whatever... those didn't bother me quite as much. I think there was still timing involved and a large portion of them were somewhat similar to what I was just complaining about... I dunno, maybe it's the difference in the rest of the gameplay, or maybe I'm just a bit of a hypocrite.
I could live with the qte bits in re4 because the game was otherwise fantastic but as a logo time fan of the resident evil series 6 was so dissapoining, to the point where I have still barely played it.

I find that the vast amount of quick time events in games are just poorly utilised, for example trying to turn what could be a perfectly reasonable cutscene into gameplay. I just don't find having to press a certain key/button when the screen prompts me to be any more engaging than it'd have been to watch the character throw those punches or w/e automatically and unprompted, and it can turn what should have been a well-flowing cutscene into a choppy mess. Depending on the game, it might punish you for missing a prompt or even just do it for you if the prompt is missed or left for a period of time. Those QTEs can get fethed.
I'm sure there are some that fit, but I've yet to really play a game where QTEs were anything more than an annoyance.

I find the tell tale games qte are good but that's because the entire game is like playing a movie and you can often make choices during the QTE sections
I picked up Eldritch in the Steam sale there for £2. Its a decent enough game, despite the visuals being rather ...retro (I can see they were trying to go for the nostalgia angle). So far I managed to cruise through world one and the Mountains of Madness, but world two's a real git. I'd say its a problem with level design that there's two types of unkillable enemy on those maps, not just one, and both appear more frequently than their killable counterparts. ...But I'm also going for the best ending, so by that point I'm running around with only one special item, so I'm handicapped somewhat. It is a roguelike though, but I think the game would flow better had they not made the second level suddenly much more difficult than the first (...eugh, being killed just as you're about to click the exit is always a drag. ...Especially when you wind up reviving yourself twice in the process). Not a bad game however, even if it could do with maybe more variety in items (something the Mountains of Madness DLC fixes a little, but it would have been nice to see more in the base game too). =P

I should really get back to playing Dark Souls. I heard I was about to face 2 bosses which were considered the toughest in the game (not sure how they figured that out). It's when you're in anor londo or something after being flown there and you get get to a weird mechanism that rises and lowers and leads to a bunch of areas including a smith. After these 2 big knight dudes you get to these big doors with 2 bosses and that's about where I left off at. Perhaps I should try dark souls again and get frustrated until I kill myself from sheer gaming anger though it's never been that serious by a lot.
Also it would seem we're both in the same state. That's kind of cool.

I need to get back into it as well, but I'm just having to much fun on Skyrim at the moment. My rules about sleeping every in-game night (unless there's a reason not to like an urgent quest) and no fast travel make it a lot longer to play through quests, but at the same time, things like the journey from Castle Volkihar to Fort Dawnguard (ie the length of Skyrim) feel much more epic than just opening the menu and fast travelling.

In any normal situation, execution would be the guaranteed result, but this is not a normal situation and there are a few things working in her favour. For example, the fact that she sought out the Argent Crusade and surrendered willingly, to the surprise of the Crusaders.

Dont be sad, the game is not anything to weep over. Its rather forgettebal actually, spend the time with your kid instead. Much more enjoyebale I dare say
Heh, that reminds me I saw whoever that guy is in the orange pants with the white mask and glowy blue eyes stalking around at GenCon, definitely in-character, sort of creepy!
I can relate to the daughter keeping one from playing games, it's well enough, kind of gets me to squeeze in mini hobby projects while she's occupied with playdoh.

Oh...the joys of painting miniatures and children! Last year, our daughter accidentally threw a puppet and hit two a box of Khorne Red I opened a second ago. Turns out, white carpet and paint don't like each other...she was so sorry she almost cried when this happened :(
Comforted her, of course, not her fault and...well, white carpet wasn't too bright of an idea. It's been cleaned, though, and all paint has been removed

In any normal situation, execution would be the guaranteed result, but this is not a normal situation and there are a few things working in her favour. For example, the fact that she sought out the Argent Crusade and surrendered willingly, to the surprise of the Crusaders.
Woop. Ashiraya survived the trial.
The story goes on.
Wow, an actual RP on a RP server in WoW...color me shocked. I tried the RP thing when I first started playing back in launch, ended up getting propositioned by several different male Night Elves within the first hour of play.
Hint: It's blue, shocked is always blue.
Also, I finally installed CoH and it's respective addons and I'm in love. I think this game excels with the limits of squad based/small team based combat more so than the DoW II series did; despite that series being awesome. I'm not terribly excited about the German expansion, as the forces of goodness and light would end up being my enemies, but I may just suck it up to see how the other side lives.
Additionally, reinstalled Doom 3, (which I might have mentioned a post or two back), it's still terrifying.
I've been playing Civilization V for the last couple of days. I've had the vanilla one for quite a long time and already had about 50 hours into it. But because Steam sales I got the DLC I was missing.
It's so much better! I should have got them ages ago.
I put another 10 hours into the game yesterday and I barely even noticed the passage of time.
I'm going to take advantage of the bank holiday here and play it some more now, but hopefully not for as long, because I have models I want to paint!
X-com. Got it on PS Plus a few months ago but only just got round to playing it. I'm not sure if it's easier than the 90s game or if I've just gotten better at squad tactics. I hope its the latter but I suspect its the former.
Due to my videogame ADD, I switched games again. Apparently the girlfriend has never played Twilight Princess, so I'm running through that. Now, if only she would get into the art style of Wind Waker....
I picked up Enemy Within for XCOM as it was one sale, and installed the Long War mod.
The mod changes a lot of things, for the better, but there's still one thing that pisses me off; Terror Missions.
There's a few reasons for this; 1) Chrysalids, 2)Chrysalids, 3)Chrysalids and 4)Chrysalids using their free activation movement to run right at you.
There's also the matter of how slowed the civilian AI is, and how they usually start clustered together on the far side of the map surrounded by chrysalids.
I also got two terror missions in a row in Mexico, which was kind of annoying, as now I can't get the Air and Space bonus, though Long War has the ability to reclaim lost countries; they're kind of mum on the mechanic, but it's probably tied to a research level and so on.
Ingrid Glynn keeps rising in The Great Game, moved into a new room a week ago and comes closer to Persuasive 100. She has about 5 sex affairs running with one of them essentially being an on-off-relationship.
Ingrid Glynn is best known for being seen 8 times a day at church (to reduce her Scandal) and drinking about 10 bottles of wine each day to lessen her worrying Nightmares.
She also wrote a few short stories and now possesses a good amount of about 280 Echos.
I feel like I'm making slow progress on dark souls. I just rung the bell on top on the church looking building. Killing the two gargoyles bosses was a bit tough but I got it on my second try. Now I'm just trying to figure out where to go next.
Still playing World Of Tanks, been focusing on the German and French tech tree, although the snail like pace of the French tanks are almost unbearebal. When I get out of the start zone the game is either won or lost most time, and well at least I have good armour and a decent gun most times.
I have enough Nukes to hit every major city in the world. I know the USA and the Incan Empire have a similar sized arsenal. New Zealand according to my spies, still has the most nukes.
My people abandoned democracy many years ago and we are now a communist state. Science has stopped advancing as the threat of the apocalypse draws ever closer. Very little oil left. I had to fight a war against china for some oil as mine all dried out. Aluminium is also running out, so building Nukes while I can is of prime importance.
So far, its a stale mate. Its not a nice time to be human in the year 2400 (or something similar). Soon, resources will be gone (just have to hope that some more sources are found) and many will perish in the nuclear horrors to come.

Im trying to play this one save for as long as possible. One guy played CIV 2 for 10 years and the results where impressive.
Plus the world has one thing going for it. We have prevented any signs of global warming through massive amounts of money and work being put into clean energy and recycling etc. I know Global warming is still coming, but its not a huge issue yet. This is my last hope in humanity in that world.
Plus the mongols are still in the ancient era, I have hopes that they will rise from their tiny island and become a beacon of hope. Their leader is a jerk though, always starting wars, so maybe there isnt hope there.
I am tempted to launch the nukes first. But given we all have satellites to defend against nukes, I think I need more nukes.
Soon, I will push the launch button and sign the death papers of 100s of millions of people. But not yet...
I ensure you, it will happen soon. A few test nukes have been fired by our nations about 60 years ago game time. a quarter of the nukes launched made it to their targets. The results were devastating.
I cant imagine what the arsenal we have now would do. I had 8 nukes during the first nuclear war. Now I have 30+ at LEAST.
Once the second one starts it wont end for a long time.

Haven't seen the Long War mod...sounds like a winner.
Also, feth Chrysalids. feth them all. I forget which perk it is, but having overwatch snipers with two shots makes terror missions comically easy.

Show them the beacon of light, and by that I mean the light of a nuclear detonation in their capital

I would but honestly my reputation among the world would be forever tarnished. Its one thing Nuking the super power of the world, its another thing nuking a nation on a small island with 4 cities left in its control.
Plus they bravely landed 3 galleys on my beach about 100 years ago. The horsemen poured onto my shore only to be defeated by my tanks.
I consider them brave enough to leave alive for now...
Also horses are their only resource. Honestly, its not even worth invading them.

Aye, but in Long War, Chrysalids can't be overwatched - 90% dodge chance.
I also just faced my first Exalt mission.
27 fething dudes. 27. And their rocket launcher always managed to direct hit at least two of my guys, scoring 9+ damage, killing them instantly, while mine is lucky to even hit the general area I'm aiming at.
I'm on attempt #12 before I just said feth it, I'll come back to this later. I usually don't save-scum, but this is slowed.

Yea....That sounds brutal and quite unfun indeed. Those infernal beasts always seems to swarm in from no where when I am either doing a terror mission, or run into them otherwise
Varian Wrynn, king of the humans in WoW, is often made fun of due to his chin.
Spoiler:
But earlier today I saw the best thing ever.
Spoiler:
It is so jaw-droppingly awesome I don't know what to say. Possibly the best picture of a warrior woman I've ever seen. Now my avatar, and there to stay.
Hitting SWTOR hard again on account of early access to player housing for subscribers. I have 3 houses now (one Imp, one Pub, and one Neutral) and I must say, decoration is a bloody time sink. On the bright side, the fact that all of the flashpoints and ops drop unique decorations has made it really darn easy to get a pug using group finder!

I have been dicking about on metal gear ground zeros knocked out and extracted a bunch of guards via chopper. Tempted to see if I can extract and entire base worth of guards just for gaks and giggles.
Way to limited for a £20 game but I borrowed it from a friend. It does make me hopefull for mgs5 though as the mechanics and core gameplay are solid and would work better with larger more free levels, if that is what they end up being.
Its a great game, I took a year off and bought the two expansions on the cheap last week.
I've been on this recently as well!
Had vanilla for ages, but the expansions really do add a lot. I'm definitely enjoying it more.
Mate dont play as England, build up your spy, buy a police station and a constabulary, and then put your elite super agent on special operations in your capital.
Every turn you get bombarded by apologetic leaders after he kills their spies, it really slows the game down.
Seriously my spy has killed more people than Malaria!

I've been playing as Austria recently, I like the idea of being able to buy city-states... Not tried it yet though.
I rung the second bell in dark souls. I feel like I've come a long ways so far and my fighting skills have improved greatly. Next time I play, I'm going to venture beyond that gate.
Finishing up my 'perfect' playthrough of Dragon Age: Origins and then on to Dragon Age II for a complete playthrough...all in anticipation of DA:I due this year, I can't wait.
Not so much perfection, but completing everything. The side quests, the tertiary quests, finding all of the appropriate gear for my character and companions; which is hard because the gear selection for the game is terrible.
Ahh makes sense. I have been meaning to replay it. My hard drive corrupted when I got to the final boss which pissed me up enough to just read the ending based on the choices I made. I love the game but at the time had no desire to reply it right away just to do huge last few mins differently
Man, that sucks about the HD, had that happen a few years ago and lost several long running 4x strategy games I'd had saved. Almost went nuclear over it.
Speaking of Dragon Age, are there any mods out there that anyone uses? Specifically equipment related as the drops in the game SUCK.

There's a Dragon Age nexus site, I'd check that out. I can't remember the ones I used on my last playthrough, except the Skip the Fade mod, because thrice is enough for that gakfest.
Started replaying Dayz Standalone. Much fun! especially with roleplaying. I got captured by a group, got handcuffed and searched, but then had the chance to escape.
Then got incapped by a couple of bad zombie spawns and broke my leg.
War thunder, which is a whole lot of fun. Nailed 8 kills with my B-25 bomber last night. Hilarious how many people will just try and sit still behind a bomber to try and take it out, then you hit the cockpit.
still doing a little Spelunky, got to Olmec, but sadly didn't have bombs or gloves/jetpack, so I got down to 3 down and then got splattered. Still, it's been my highest score and my best level. Also, Anibus 1 was trapped in between 2 idols, and died instantly....Only a few characters I need now.

Time- and creditsink!
I've dived into SWTOR again as well; the new housing is quite fun and more customisable than I had expected. For the time being I'm ignoring personal houses and instead investing everything into my guild's headquarters. It's starting to look nicely.
Spoiler:
The lounge - abusing the decorations vendor NPC you get as a receptionist.
Spoiler:
A bunch of sith-themed trophy holos as a sort of "gallery" to line the main corridor.
Spoiler:
I really like that you can place your vehicles and pets as decorations! Makes for a nice garage with everyone's vehicle of choice.
Spoiler:
Also, I managed to score one of the three small rooms on the 2nd floor as a personal apartment. *successkid* Nice view on the cityscape of the Imperial capital, too!
Crafting decorations is a mess, though. The standard prefabs are no big deal, but the universal ones are a pita to farm the materials for, given that it involves several steps ("we heard you like crafting, so we've made it so you have to craft before you can craft").

They certainly are arrogant though, but then again the humans are no better.

Nah, the Nilfgaardians orchestrated that whole Loc Muine thing. Which was a pretty dick move; I liked that city. It didn't need blood and guts everywhere, it was already in a bad place. I mean, that's just rude.
I think I might go Vran. Can't go wrong with an extinct race of magic lizard people, right?
Big things are going on in WoW RP, huehuehue. I will copypaste the chat log from skype, but the formatting seems to get messed up. Whatever. It's readable.
Spoiler:
Okay, I will explain.
Ashi told Koriandr there's a message waiting for him on the horse's saddle. BQ's mount is now masterless and inactive.
They intend to go looking for it after the peace summit.
To Ashiraya, BQ was like another person altogether. Ashi did not understand everything she did while corrupted.
BQ had certain precognitive abilities. That is why this message is so interesting. The 'message' is actually an enchanted scrying bowl. You know, like the ones the Alliance use to communicate in their early MoP quests.
[den 30 augusti 2014 02:47] Ashi:
<<< As far as Ashiraya herself knows, this message is intended for Koriandr and the MA, but as said she did not understand BQ so she can't know for sure.
But what they will find...
That is what I am going to spoil.
Here we go.
The event may change depending on character decisions but if they do what I expect them to it wll go like this:
MA arrives where they were told it will be and quickly finds the horse. It is soulless and docile.
On its saddle, they find the scrying bowl.
When picked up, the bowl jerks out of their hands, and lands on the ground. There, it projects a message.
It shows a horned, goat-like skull of saronite with glowing eyes on a shadowy background.
It gives them a speech of DOOM all Reaper-style, mortals you have become an annoyance etc.
It is clear that this is the voice of Runefang, finally answering the question whether it is sentient or not.
HOWEVER.
Then comes the twist.
As Runefang is -about- to finish its speech of DOOM, it is interrupted.
The scrying bowl makes a howling sound and violently pulls all present into the Realm of Shadows.
There, they are greeted by a visage. A hazy image of the Black Queen, in full armoured and armed splendour.
She thanks them for their excellent performance as her puppets and explains how everything has gone exactly according to plan.
Remember what I said about BQ's precognition? Runefang did turn Ashiraya into the Black Queen, but she realised that while the weapon obeyed her, it was not chained and could take control at any moment. She understood that this situation was not sustainable. The weapon's demonic masters in the Burning Legion may at any time command it to seize control, undoing all of her plans. So she forged a middle step of her Great Plan. She headed to Icecrown, ordered away all her servants, loosened her grip on their minds so that they would rebel, and waited. Sure enough, people gathered and attacked. She pretended to put up a fight but eventually let herself be defeated. In the Night Elf prison, she pretended to be insane, to manipulate her captors. The Black Queen lives on in Runefang and the Aegis Regina. Ashiraya herself is not necessary. The Alliance and Horde will try to destroy the armour and weapon, but a shard will survive of Runefang, and a shard is all that is needed for the Black Queen to live on. And as long as the Black Queen lives on, she can one day find a way to completely subdue Runefang, and become unstoppable.
She explains all this to the Mardenholdes and finishes by assuring them that while she did manipulate them, it remains to be seen whether the coming battle places them on the same side.
SCHEMES.
Epic, right?
[19:40] Ashi:
<<< she can freely tell the Mardenholde about all this, for they are painted into a corner.
If they destroy Runefang and the armour, they will destroy Runefang's consciousness, leaving BQ as the sole wielder of this unfathomable power. BQ will survive since a shard of Runefang is elsewhere. So she just needs to wait until someone finds this shard and bammm, new host to control.
If they lock Runefang and the armour into a vault, it is just a matter of time until it seduces the guardians. It may take time, but BQ is patient, and when it succeeds, a new host is gained, ready to continue her plans.[den 31 augusti 2014 20:15] Ashi:
<<< She also thanks the Mardenholde Accord for exiling Ashiraya. By letting her live, she may one day be useful as a puppet again, but by exiling her to Acherus, they prevented the possibility of her walking out into the world, realising the shard survived and destroying it, which would have killed the Black Queen.

In hindsight, this will look confusing as feth to those who are not part of it, but I am so damn proud of this xanatos gambit anyway.
New Zealand espionage mission against Germany resulted in their declaration of war on the New Zealand people. The best Naval Fleet happened to be nearby the German Homeland so the navy airforces and marines began their offensive immediately. Losses are expected to be heavy as the Germans are at an estimated full military capacity.
The Inca front is going swell as their outer cities are being occupied by our forces. Minor losses, as inca has been weakend by years of conflict with the once mighty nation of Iriquious.
Very few sources of Aluminium is left in the world. Using it as fast as possible before it runs out. The world will be a scary place without aluminium.
If i'm after something light to pass a bit of time, Cursed Treasure 2, a browser tower defence game.
Other than that, I'vejust started to play "Freedom Force Vs The 3rd Reich" which I got with "Red Faction" and "Red Faction 2" for about £3.50 from GoG.
Seems a very pleasant cartoon superhero type game with reasonable graphics for the era in which it was made, and a reasonable RPG element in that you can choose which powers/abilities you can improve on your group of heroes.
Played through a relatively quick/easy "learning game" as Harald Bluetooth of the Danes... My nemeses were Alexander the Great, and Queen Liz of England. Let me tell you... That English queen LOOOOOOOOOVES to denounce people.

Denouncing in that game is broken. If the CPU Civs do it to you then nobody bats an eyelid, but if you do it to one of them, regardless of the reason - for example, catching yet another of their spies trying to steal tech - then everyone loses their minds and you suddenly find yourself being denounced left, right, and centre by the AI.

Well, to be fair, the FIRST time she did it, I had just taken out one of the minor civs cities for myself (he had it coming, he jumped the mediterranean and was stealing my horse resources ) After that, she'd denounce me, it'd run its 10 turns, then on turn 11, she'd denounce me again, rinse and repeat.
Is it just me or is your player on Pro mode extremely fragile??? and even if you are the leading goal scorer (I created a Striker who was a "Finisher") in the whole world, you're still the 2nd or 3rd string player?
Currently, my guy is playing for Arsenal/USA and the club seems to only want to use me in UEFA/Euro League stuff or FA stuff, but no BPL stuff at all (the only reason I have any time in BPL with Arsenal this year is due to injuries )
Yeah I believe it's a single mode with the game were you follow the career of and play a single footballer. Other modes are the standard control the whole team,

FIFA is the first that I've come across, since sports games have added a "be a pro" mode (they all call it something different) where it gives you the option to play as the whole squad, or just your created person. Even the last NHL game, and Madden games that I had (I think Madden was about 07 or 08.. and NHL was probably 2013) only allowed the person to control their created person in the career mode.

I also played NBA Jam, Barkley Shut Up and Jam, NHL on the Sega, and Fight Night. It was no Mutant League.
After 3 days on DayZ without a fatality, I got shot at three seperate times, almost died four times from zombahs, Encountered EIGHT different survivors and sniped 2 people.
I have a Mosin with steadier, and sight. Got the chance for an AKM or AK101, but really, I don't like the lack of sniping capacity. Also picked up a longhorn, probably will try and find something a little better with the pistol.
I love the whole getting wet thing as well, really makes things difficult. Do you go out in the rain, risk getting an infection, or do you stay in and hope to gods that noone bumps into you.

Did they not stick together roleplaying servers to diminish that a bit? I mean they're full of people who can't act and put on terrible, terrible accents, but generally its frowned upon to kill people without a reason first (even if that reason's to act like a complete psycho, as long as you're entertaining first). Still the main game should offer the opportunity not to be killed by someone who still thinks they're playing Battlefield, but its been yonks since the game had that sort of atmosphere.
