In keeping with the re-theming of my force, and wanting to have some more practice at plasticard, I am in the process of making this:
Based on the MMS:
Which is itself based on the MIM-23 Hawk Missile Launcher System:
It's still not great, as I am still learning with plasticard, and there is a lot of work to do on it yet. I am intending to make a small one man tractor to pull it, hoping to stay as close to the footprint of the actual Manticore as possible.
Here is a Techpriest I 'helped' my oldest son make for my younger son for Christmas. He plays vanilla marines but they have a wolf theme.Just gettign back in the game so to speak, my plastic card skills are not what they use to be but they are getting better. This is my favorite conversion right now.
To answer your question: It's basically one of the riders from the WFB Chaos Lord on Manticore kit: I just made some small adjustments
Please elaborate! ...that psyker is totally awesome.
Thanks a lot, Gunzhard!
The model was basically built as intended by GW, only the legs were repositioned to look like the model was floating above the ground instead of sitting astride a giant beast. Only minimal cutting was necessary for that, although I had to use some GS to sculpt a new...well, butt for the model The GS work was hidden behind a couple of accessories and the model's flowing cape, though. Apart from that (and a couple of minor additional bitz), it's really just the sorcerer from the Manticore kit.
For more details, just check out my World Eaters log (link in my signature).
Bought the battalion box, as you can see Green stuffed the kimonos and used plasticards for the armor. Lots of ork hair was used for the Oni mask (BSB).
I cant recall whether or not I actually posted this, but seeing as how it's always been one of my favorite conversions... it cant possibly hurt to post it!
My converted Khorne Lord on Juggernaut for my WoC Troll army!
Wow, my first Dakka post. My favorite conversion that i have made is a set of Ork HQs I made for a friend. I call them the 3 gits, the red git, the blue git, and the poiple git. They are a big Mek, a warboss, and a wyrdboy, respectively. I'll try and get some pics for everyone soon. ''
Also, I have some Captains I really like, based off characters from a certain video game franchise. Again, I'll try to get pics up soon.
This is the only pic of one I know of. And since I assume they came in as many patterns as just about anything else the Imperium built, I think that the one in Praxis' post is as valid as anything.

What is that wire-stuff called / where can I get some? Been needing something like that for a project I'm working on, but wasn't really sure where to look. Not that I've done much looking yet.
I don't know if guitar string was used for this particular model, but the string IS used for tubing of this type, so I'd recommend checking the local musical instrument store.
Guitar string go to ebay you can get it cheap although I would recommend Zinge industries wire as it bends easily and has the same look as guitar wire.
However his site is down at the moment, but as soon as it is back I can get you a link if you want .
Each unit will have a different color of clothing and a different Mon (insignia) on their Sashimono (back-banners). The red armor ties the entire army together.
The WIP Melta-Vet Squad will be in blue clothes while the plasma Vets will be in green. I'll probably do a plainer brown for regular Platoon Guardsmen without banners (since they are nubs and not worthy of individual recognition) and bare heads with the japanese top-knot hair instead of helmets.
So when does a kitbashed model become a conversion model?
My best kitbash is
The head and body are from the DA vets kit, the crozius is a banner topper mounted onto a "holding something hand" and that in turn is put onto a more outstretched arm. The backpack is a servo skull head used as a banner topper and the incense burners are bitz from the DA vet kit, as are the shoulders and the incense burner part of his ropework. The sword is a gift on two levels, first from a Space Wolves Rune Priest as a spoil of war from the great duel that happens every thousand years between the two arch Rivals the DA and SW and a physical gift from my GF's space wolves pack.
As for Conversion models I've got a DVRW Sgt with Dual chainswords and a MKII Jump pack I'm working on PURELY for the absurdity of it.
Instead of just painting her up, I decided that I needed to use GS. This actually was the first time I've ever tried my hand at it and I think it turned out pretty well! And all of the tentacle thingys are Spikes. This is an Undivided/Black Crusade Daemon Engine so it isn't Nurgle. And all of the other non-spiky bits are supposed to be exposed fleshy bits such as muscles and tendons. The first few pics aren't that great, but the others are better for some reason. My phone camera is crappy and I don't have the funds to buy a real camera. I enjoy this model for all of the very slight changes and alterations I did. All of my bits came from either the Bloodcrushers or Chaos Marauders kits. And of course GS I did all of the spikes because I figured the Daemon inside would reshape the metal to fits its liking more. And he is a spiky daemon! And on the face is a lot of gore from eating people!
LordRogalDorn wrote: That is a really cool idea! I really like the look of the squad. How did you come up with the idea?
I was building up a Samurai themed GK and C:SM army sets, then when 6th came out with allies I started the IG as an ally force and to use as Crusaders/Warriors in a Coteaz list...but since then these guys have been the main focus. I finished the banners on my Melta-vets this evening and they get 2 coats of Testers dull-coat tommorow.
It is indeed. Fixing it to the intake that usually sits behind it was a bit fiddly and needed some trimming and filling, but it actually works remarkably well as a cockpit. I added some textured pasticard to the sides just to hide the weapon mount holes and one of the Valkyrie nose sensors I had kicking about.
is it me but thta GKDK sword is..backwards? thought the power source pack thing at the hilt was facing the model. But meh, who cares, looks badass anyways. Personally I wouldve positioned him a little different, that sword kinda makes him off balanced.
Don't know if I've put it here before, internet is a bit too slow and cumbersome to make a good check of that, but here is my Avengers Conversion known as the Avenger Crons!
not nearly as professional as some things I saw arounds here but I'm quite happy with my bjorn made from a AoBR dread,m as well as my Swamlord, who never got to see any cover during 5th edition.
My Eldar Bastion. It's mostly done, I'm still thinking about what I want on the side fins. This is my first major attempt at free-hand painting (I've done a few runes on my farseer and that's about it) so any constructive criticism on that would be appreciated.
For Hordes, there's this guy. Essentially, I took the metal conversion kit that you'd normally apply to a plastic Warpwolf kit, and applied it to the Extreme version from the PP webstore.
ExNoctemNacimur wrote: That is absolutely awesome! Great job! That's given me my own ideas.
Thanks! The idea isn't mine, I modelled it on similar projects I've seen on the Privateer forums. It was an interesting project, especially having to chop up and reassemble that damn axe.
Its not my most heavily converted model, but it is my most recent one. I tell ya, its kinda scary taking a dremil to a $70 dollar model for the first time.
Jayden63 wrote: Its not my most heavily converted model, but it is my most recent one. I tell ya, its kinda scary taking a dremil to a $70 dollar model for the first time.
I know how you feel. That's the same reason why my Heldrake isn't converted despite the fact that i don't like the basic pose that much.
Your pose looks cool and if i should get another one i may steel your idea. :-) I also like the burned land on the base. Just one glance and you know what havoc this beast will cause.
I love what you did with the Helldrake, I have an idea to kitbash/scratch-build my own from an old Ral Partha Skeletal Dragon and some plasticard, like this one:
Wanted a Maulerfiend the moment I saw one, despite not having a Chaos Space Marine army.
I wanted the mouth to be open, and after many, many attempts of making a mould of the face using green stuff I couldn't get it right properly so tore apart the head itself. I used the teeth from one of the other cannons for the new teeth. I wanted guns coming out the back but with the exhausts made it rather difficult, so shoulder mounted them, I ended up what I thought were spare shoulder parts to cover up the original holes for arm joints but later found out that these weren't spare shoulder pads, they were pads for the legs. Luckily I had some spare Daemon Prince shoulder pads to work with to cover the mistake.
For some reason I could not get the pose of the original model. I'm fairly sure I did everything (normal) correctly, but no matter how I tried, I could not get the foot in a position that the right fist would lay on the ground as well, the tentacles kept getting in the way. So initial response: "Bollocks to it" and had it raised up.

correct, it is guitar wire from a local music shop. Works good, jut a little hard to get good short bends.

That is awesome. I have the mini you based that on, and its one of my favorite fantasy minis. Might have to see if I can get ahold of a recast and do something similar to what you did there. A real one is just too expensive (for me) to cut up.
The book is from a commissar (no clue what happened to the rest of the commissar) and the Eviscerator is from the sentinal kit. Since his right arm was robotic to begin with, I can just imagine him getting ready for battle thinking to himself "regular robot arm or large choppy arm today?"
He's 90% done... needs some clean up and some wash on the metal, I just couldnt wait to share him!

I know the model all too well, its one of the favorites in my collection.
EDIT: I also thought it was based on the "on foot" mini.
How do I sort this out? AFAIK I did everything correct.
I'm not entirely sure what you did wrong, but what I do (and works as above) is when you are viewing your pic in the gallery, there's all the link things down on the right hand side.
I use the link below "forums", just copy and paste the whole link form there as is.
However I found, with trial and error, that you must select the image size (just above the links) where it says Recomended sizes, AND then copy the link.
And doc1234, that's the sort of reaction I like. The short explaination is: blame a mad scientist.

Wow! Two days of looking and I finally made it to the last page. Guess it's time to get out my camera so I can make this thread a little longer!
Lots of great stuff guys. Fantastic amounts of talent and creativity!
For christmas I got a ally detatchment worth of dark eldar (the codex, a venom, a box of kabalites, and a razorwing), I just needed a HQ, so I made a Archon from a side rideing wych that came with the venom , some kabalite bits, a dire avenger exarch banner, and a storm guardian hair bit.
That hellbrute is AMAZING, totally top notch conversion, painting and diorama. I love the guardsmen hiding behind the ruin with nothing but a las pistol, he's totally screwed! The impaled imperial fist looks good, sometimes those impaled marines just don't look right, but your has the right limpnes and his swaying angle is correct to the motion of the hellbrute
Hey now... That DP looks pretty sweet! Don't sell yourself short, man! The chainmail work is freaking sweet! (although, he reminds me of the skeksis from "The Dark Crystal". Not that that is a bad thing, though. haha"
On a reader note, it's funny that I posted in this thread ages ago. So, I decided to start from page one and work my way through and look at all the new stuff I've missed... and I JUST NOW finished. haha
Haha, thanks - I'm glad you like it! As for my Warboss, strangely enough I had made this guy a while back, and it felt like he kinda needed a new ride:

Welcome to Dakka, enjoy yourself, remember to bring your salt to any discussion, and beware the trolls. They bite.
I'll post more images in the future, but this is my favourite conversion. This little badass is Karl von Usher, an Averland captain for Mordheim. Pieces from 6 different sprues and some GS for fitting them:
Spoiler:
I'm quite proud of these two guys too. Also, many different bits but in this case much more GS. Maybe they could fit good as Mordheim Witch Hunters, but I haven't decided yet:
This is my best conversion, a nurgle biker with daemonette on the back. I have another 9 of them (all looking very different), converted out of dark vengeance biker kits and various bits. For my Nurgle/Slaanesh chaos army.

I always valued this kind of conversions, maybe because I use to convert human models that allow only little conversions (Empire or IG style), and you have to chose them carefully to make them really effective. Is not like converting orks or Daemons, that may give spectacular results in an "easier" way.
Here is Scorpion Tyrant, my boss bug of Hive fleet Scorpio. He was probably my hardest model to convert. Not least because I converted him back when the Hive Tyrant was all metal.
That spider tyrant is awesome! For want of anything else new here is a half-assed update to my Diamondback speeder for a counts as land speeder vengeance
Oh man, that has some nice lines to it. Partly thanks to the vengence's horrendous model, but that's an awesome conversion.
Also because I used diamond backs extreamly heavily in SC2.

Nothing painted at the moment, but these are my most recent conversions. Most of them are pretty simple, but I would consider them my best at this point.
I had much fun putting them together. Comments and constructive criticism welcome!
Charna the Wretched: Nurgle Sorceress on Palanquin.
I really like that Warshrine and using the Tomb king woman (I can't spell her name) as a Nurgle champion. That could look really good when it's painted up and very original because Nurgle types are usually fat blokes, not skinny gals.
My best and favorite conversion is now the Cyborfex. The dark mechanicum found an injured carnifex and tried to turn it into his own bodyguard, but when synapse was reestablished the Cyborfex was returned to the control of the Tyranids.

Statuesque Miniatures, I did a bit of greenstuffing around the hair to give her a head band. She was supposed to have more interesting hair too, but the GS cured flatly. Either way though, great model.
Here is my Doom of Malan'tai . it's made up from spare parts from 4 different tyranid kits. the head, and back carapace are from a carnifex, there two pieces of carapace from the trygon kit, a lot of parts from the ravener kit, and then the arms from a genestealer kit.
so it's made in the true tyranid spirit of reusing biomass it even has a broken marine arm inside the head
I had some spares from the Forgefiend kit and bought a Heldrake body cheaply off ebay. A visit to the bitsbox later and i had this monster ready to blow up stuff for my chaos marines.
The greenstuffing is still a bit rough but i will get to that with my files very soon.
Hope you like it I call it a Siege crawler.

This is one of my earlier conversions, and getting it to stay together with the wings and model being metal and the jump pack being plastic nothing wanted to stick together well. He is definitely one of my favorites though.

Thanks! Yeah, really liked the idea too; I based her off of a necromancer villian I made for a DnD campaign. The Palanquin was good fun, aside from having to buy the giant hunk of metal that is the Casket of Souls in order to get that platform. This was easily a year before Finecast came out.

They were, until GW released the Skullcrushers. Now the Finecast Chaos Lord on Juggernaught comes with the larger base to match the Skullcrushers. Sadly GW does not yet have that base to order separately; one of my Skullcrushers bravely sacrificed being built in order to give my Lord a new base.

Awesome now I can put my lord on a base that makes sense. Also, I saw and article on the GW site once where a guy put a 50x50 and a 25x50 together to make a base for the giant, same principles should apply, but it seems GW have taken all their articles off the site. Should be simple enough, glue + green stuff.

Very cool! Very good for some serious GS sculpting and a much more epic model to represent Kharn. Am I sensing some Bane influence?
Here's my big mutant boss. The main body is from an ogryn, with a greenstuff face, and extra arm from a skaven rat ogre, an ork nob chainsaw, and a marines bolter (counts as firearms)
funkyh wrote: Curious, where did those wings come from??
Yeah those are the Sanguinor's wings, back with they were metal too.http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440191a&prodId=prod1700035a someone had cut up Asmodai really badly, he had no arms on him and his back pack was gone but I wanted an Interogator-Chaplain with a jump pack and my buddy had one of the Blood angels jump packs left over. I bits ordered the winds over ebay and blended everything together. The robes look yellow in that picture, but they are actually bleached bone with a wash on them now.
Well it is not my best conversion model (previosly I posted in this thread my conversion of Mad Dok Grotsnik which I consider as my best conversion for today) but I it is pretty funny look I made up to this Nob. Let's say he now look closer to fallout universe - namely Super Mutant.
Here is a model I made using the body and head of a blood thirster and the heavy sponson bolter from a Predator. The arms, legs, and cape were all favricated from some modeling clay and prayers. I call him Doombreed, Deamon of Slaneesh.
Thraka found a scout. And my Nob that I wish I had a better photot of. Made him right after the switch to 6th, when all my mobs became shooty, and I began to hide my PK nobs behind my first 3-4 ranks of orks. They die less from boltguns that way, and can avoid challenges when they are 2-3 inches deep in an assault. His whip-klaw allows him to attack marines while behind his brethren!
That looks great. Very grimdark the only thing I don't like are the feet... couldyou maybe stick a second layer of plasticard on the toes to give them some depth and presence?
Flinty wrote: That looks great. Very grimdark the only thing I don't like are the feet... couldyou maybe stick a second layer of plasticard on the toes to give them some depth and presence?
This is something I've been working on for some time for a very WIP Imperial Guard army. Still not finished but it's close enough to being done that I'm happy to share it.
It's a counts as Leman Russ Vanquisher based on a 1/35 scale Tamiya Cromwell model. Didn't really take much to 40k it really, I just threw some chaos smoke launchers and Imperial symbols on it and scratch built the vanquisher battle cannon and lascannon from different sizes of plasticard tubes. I plan on adding a pintle mounted heavy stubber once I get one built.
This is made of too much win; the giant dozer blade and extra armor panels are perfect! The giant dozer blade is made of styrene/plasticard I assume? How did you achieve the slope on the blade?

I am rather fond of this guy at the moment, my converted World Eaters Heldrake. I am calling it the "Hellrazor":
The conversion was inspired by a model done by Marshalfaust over on Warseer. More pictures in my World Eaters thread, in case anyone is interested
That is a great conversion! It ties it back to the old hell talon nicely and keeps a great "living machine" aesthetic without being too "raaar-I-is-dragon"
I'm going to add my most resent (the hard coat is still drying) builds.
From the left; The Hive Ganger, The Sanctioned Psker, The Guardsman, The Arbiter, The Feral Hunter
I bashed these together for a Dark Hersey game we're playing. Unneeded for playing Dark Hersey but three of us said we needed minnies so I got on to it, the GM is going to go threw his stuff and will have a odd game of D&D that is grim and dark

Your Daemon Prince looks awesome, the addition of chains and more khornate symbols are a must though, they'll make her more of a 'warrior queen' pulling her away from a more Slannesh feel.

In all respect though, that thing is freakin' awesome! I should get some of my conversions up here, but all my best ones are in the midst of being painted.

Spoken like a true follower of the Blood God. I'll admit that this conversion was hugely influenced by Valkia the Bloody, but it was more from the artwork from the book by Sarah Cawkwell than the official model. The official Valkia model is good, but...lacking somehow. Also, I hate the pointy conehead. See the book artwork: THAT is how the model should have looked!
So I went and added chains and some Khorne icons. Feels more complete now. Also as much as I wanted to have a huge pile o' skulls on the base, I feel like the model would have been too busy.
Something I learned while constructing this conversion; careful bending of plastic bitz is your friend. I bent the chains toward the direction I wanted and the Collar of Khorne is from a plastic juggernaught that I (painstakingly) bended into a smaller shape.

Wow, those are some amazing conversions with marvelous GS work! Great work, mate!
Definitely feeling your pain regarding the painting. You should really pick up painting again, though, since it would be a crying shame to leave these beauties unpainted for much longer
Anyway, heading right over to your thread to check out more of your work!

Do you have a tutorial on how to create those awesome servo-arms on Fabius Bile's back?

I don't have a whole tutorial but i can give you a quick rundown on what i did. To make something like those you need different sized round polystyrol rods and for the tip i scratchbuild different attachments out of bits and plasticard. The main frame of those arms are made out of 3 sections with joints between them. The joints are just short rod pieces that i filed flat on two sides where the pieces are connected. For the 3 sections i used varying sized rods. On some sections i used even multiple sized glued together to create a piston like effect. To finish it off i used a similar technique rods - just one size smaller - of to create the additional arrangement of rods. Those are glued in different styles onto the 3 sections. Some directly onto and some with plasticard of different size between the sections and the added rods. Just for variation i also glued wires on one arm to represent cables and bent a thin wire around some rods to create a spring like application.
So they are 'just' made out of different sized rods i got from gale force nine. The only real tricky part is the size of the whole thing. It is very fiddley and you probably need tweezers to work with and sharp eyes. It will probably help to make a quick sketch of the arms layout before you start. I didn't do that and so i cut some rods to short and some of the joints needed several readustments.
And one additional warning. Those arms are not that strong and can snap apart if handled to rough. So i did magnetize the whole backpack to remove it for better storage or if i want to play with the model.

@ cyborgakadjmoose: I really like how you subtly "GW-ified" that Ultraforge model! Although the balance in this thread will have to be tipped back in the direction of Khorne, of course
I am rather fond of this guy at the moment, my converted World Eaters Heldrake. I am calling it the "Hellrazor":
The conversion was inspired by a model done by Marshalfaust over on Warseer. More pictures in my World Eaters thread, in case anyone is interested
Much better than the Heldrake imo. Is that the head from the Maulerfiend?
Cheers, mate! Yes, it's one of the heads from the fiend kit. I added the faceplate of a WFB Necrosphinx to the mouth cavity, though, to add a regular "face" to the model.

I was hoping you had a thread
Thanks. And sorry, there is no thread
Maybe in the future, though
And just for anyone curious, the chef counts as a 78 points Warboss with 'eavy armour, a big choppa, a slugga (this might sound weird, but look at his butcher's knife and think of a tomahawk), a bosspole, stikkbombs, and the Ammo Runt.
This is very simple in comparison to some of the amazing conversions in this thread, but here is my lightning claw, burning brand slaanesh chaos lord on either a steed of slaanesh or bike.
@ the damned artificier: Hmm, should I congratulate you on a fantastic conversion or rather hate your guts for cutting up that Zhufor model? A bit of both, I guess
Here's another one of mine, a failry straigtforward kitbash to create a counts as Dark Apostle for my World Eaters:
@ the damned artificier: Yeah that Dorn looks really great and characterfull.
But how did you get those flimy wires bent and glued? The last time i tried something similar was horrible. And i think at the end the wires only stayed in place to not hear me curse like that again.
The picture is a little small, Ill get around to adding a bigger one eventually.
This is the first time Ive used greenstuff and also the first time I ever had to try any serious cutting. Im very happy with it, and I promise the eyes dont look as bad as they do in the picture!
This is my Ultramarines Captain on Bike. Mostly a kitbash, but i did have to cut, reposition and sculpt his leg to fit the leaning position.
Kits/Bits used;
Space Marine Commander
Space Marine Bike
Chaos Space Marine Bike
Ravenwing Upgrade Sprue
Grey Knights
Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard
Space Marine Assault Terminators

My favorite so far is my Gretchen carrying my handstiched WAAAGH! Banner across the battlefield! I particularly like the poor Grot at the bottom that everyone else is standing on top of! LOL
probably my best conversion right now. I'm painting all my 40k daemons army with a purely Nurgle theme. This will be RotBeak, Lord of Carrion and use the normal Lord of Change rules.
Well, it's been a while since I contributed to this thread - but when it rains, it pours. Just finished up (modelling) my Meganobz and Warboss - I'll let you decide which is "best".
Dam you want us to choose there is way to much AWESOME to pick a favourite, War Machine is just a great pose and looks so bad ass so is up there.
But Predatork has all those little film references, the shoulder mounted weapon, the skulls hanging from his belt, the Pred claw, wire meshing outfit (which was a cool touch indeed) even the Alien head.
Thunda'amma has the brutish feel of an Ork, although not as crammed with goodies as the rest.
Light'ning Klaws has some exceptional detailing on the claws themselves and an alternative to the normal Ork outfitted claw.
Which brings us to the Pièce de résistance crammed full of eye candy, I have a sugar overload just looking all the detail on the miniatures and the display itself.
Some of the highlights being the Termi shield only an Ork could come up with that, the iconic cloak just love that ( see what I did there ) all the grots dragging the sword holding the helm ect
But one thing which was a stroke of genius is the grot /goblin holding the book looks fantastic, but then to bring it all together by displaying it on a wrecked LR track is just well to dam cooollllllllllllll.
So to say which is my favourite would be impossible they all are
