@ fatty
thanks man, I do have the advantage of having some small (one class) sculpting experience from college... but that was 10+ years ago... and Green stuff is rather unique medium IMO.
@King Pariah
yeah I need to get it finished. Saw the necrospinx model and went OMG must have. Its too bad C'tan are so sub par at the moment.
keltikhoa wrote: and this is my first real attempt at green stuff work. Still very much WIP Custom C'tan Shard using the torso of Tomb Kings Necrosphinx
Very impressive. If I were you, I'd maybe add some decorations to the cloak to break it up a bit. Skulls? Necron glyphs? Or maybe Scarabs climbing up it?
Yeah I plan on adding more decoration... scarabs crawling around is a great idea though, i may just use that also on the torso itself i have replaced some of the decoration skeleton skulls with spare necron skulls I had lying around. I will be adding more to the top as well to make it feel more 40k and less fantasy
Not sure if its my best conversion but definitly the newest flavor of the month for me.. Its also fully magnatized so i can add all the different weapon options, even becoming a forgefiend
Dorn took a nice third place in this weekends the Fang comp. in GW Copenhagen, despite me forgetting to paint his loin bling's rivets and running out of time so he didn't get the freehand on his cape I'd planned(will come at a later stage)

My Version of Belial, Grandmaster of The Deathwing.
Now thats what the GW model should look like.
Haha sorry I didn't get back to this thread and I am revamping a really old post, but thanks for all the comments guys, I just could not stand the GW model and I am far happier with my own creation as well.

Still a WIP (you can follow the progress on the link on my sig) but heres my Riptide conversion. A tad bigger than the tide If I recall, but I've tried to keep the weapon the same level for LOS shooting purposes.

It's a bit hard to decipher what's going on, but I'm sure it will look awesome when it's painted.
Aye, its a bit of a scrapheap currently, but I've only a got a bit of painting left to do, so I'll upload the completed version soon and hopefully it'll make it a bit easier to see.
- btw, my painting isn't great, so its best I pre warn you now

There is no cocaine in the future there is a far more brutal andmorbid version made from ground up and dried tyranid organs and venom sacs

How about a couple of Valkyrie engines chopped down? I chopped one down by about 2/3 to fit my DP and it turned out ok. For a model that big you could probably mount 2 of them side my side for a pretty awesome uber jump pack.
My custom Libby Dreadnought. Hated the standard force weapon arm, so I used a Khador Jack arm with some recutting on the knees and arms to get it into this position:

Spoiler:
That looks like it could work. I'm also thinking about the stormtalon engines but I'm not sure about their size vs. the cut down valk ones
Not the worlds best converter and just really started. Making a sisters of battle army and doing it all custom. Heres what I got so far. First sister of battle I made pretty happy. Still have some cleaning up to do and sorry only had my camera phone with me here at work.
Not my best conversion per se, but one of the only pics I have on my laptop at the moment. Still, I was happy with this one. A mix of HE and DE spearman bits, with the top of the DE sorceress staff as the head of the banner.
Scavtastic wrote: Not my best conversion per se, but one of the only pics I have on my laptop at the moment. Still, I was happy with this one. A mix of HE and DE spearman bits, with the top of the DE sorceress staff as the head of the banner.
Well, there's definitely a story behind this banner's imagery.
My truely demonic warp talons made with possessed bitz here and there, a few daemonette bits and gargoyle wings.
I really like the idea of the slain company champion on the base of the chaos champion.
Breotan wrote: So, I haven't posted my stuff in a long time and I thought since I just finished a nifty conversion, I'd post it here.
Challenge: There are two obvious conversion elements, the propeller and the Stormboyz. Find the others.
Let's see, you added more dakka, more exhaust/engine, pushed the pilot back, extended the flaps I believe and flattened the tail fins to be horizontal. Regardless if I missed anything it's still a nice conversion.
In the first "new format" WD they push the pilot back, too. The difference is they essentially did a hatchet job of it and tried disguising it using extra bits they had laying around. I took the time to reshape the holes in the fuseloge so that the cockpit and engine cover would actually fit. I was suprised at how well everything went together. It took a lot less effort than I had expected and the results are subtle enough that a lot of people miss it.
My Bomma is going to be wildly over the top. My initial plan is to make it look a little like an A-10 Warthog. Hopefully I can get the right bits.
That is wonderfull Breotan. The only thing that I can see that would make it better, and it may well be more work than it's worth, would be putting the main turret on tracks so it would move from side to side every tine the driver took a corner.
Everything worked out so well except for that rear canopy. That's pretty much a hatchet job. I had to glue the copula to the canopy so the turret will have to either sit there or not be used. Except for the canopy, the rest of the conversion was smooth as silk. I'm continuously surprised at how easy it is to do high quality conversions with ork kits. I'm not talking about just throwing bits on a gap, either. I'm talking planning, cutting, assembling, etc. You'd almost think Ork stuff is designed to be cut apart and reassembled.
I'm currently planning on basing my color scheme on heacy hitter's albino ork scheme.
Isn't that just an enhanced picture? If you take the actual picture it's just been toned down. The real one is much brighter. Love the conversion though.
I've only just gotten back into the hobby about a month and a half ago, but I've been having fun using up all the extra bits left over from my Orks boxes.
Big Mek w/ KFF - in-game stats include cybork body, 'eavy armor and burna:
I had some fun slapping together a painboy. His surjikal saw is also a sewing machine for stitching parts back together:
Well, this is my most recent conversion, so it probably pushed a lot of my boundaries of sculpting and painting to complete.
Kromlech Fatty torso
Fantasy orc legs
Fantasy Savage boar head
Kromlech kommando backpack
Random weapons from models
Greenstuffed Fingers
Greenstuffed potions and moneysacks
Greenstuffed fur to join to torso

I finally finished my kharn conversion/scratchbuild and i think he just looks too good to not share him here. *pats himself on the shoulder* Good work me.
This is one of the few models of mine i actually quite like and don't remind myself of all the flaws each time i look at it.
Haven't posted here in a while. Here's the Storm Raven I'm working on.
Still very much WIP but it's based on the chapter house kit with a completely redone top and rudder section. Wings moved back, scratchbuilt canards. Check out the thread in my sig for the complete build.
Finecast terminator librarian, Grey Knight Paladin sword arm (with some guitar wire and telephone line for the connecting tubes), an open hand from some Death Company model, small details from the Ravenwing upgrade sprue, and a hooded head from the Deathwing Knights kit.
That's a pretty awesome scratch build there scyfi... Love the squig on top of the wheel... nice touch & gives a wonderful focal point on that big area.
@Bacon: Thanks mate, I appreciate that. I just did actually (the las cannon scout I made from graven is just up a few posts). Most of my conversions don't really rise to the stellar heights that this thread prescribes though. They're just frankenfigures of cobbled together bits for the most part. I guess I have one or two folks might be interested in...
Hmmmm....
Automatically Appended Next Post:
OK, here's two that might rise to the occasion.
So, here's one of my two mantis Warrior rhinos. Conversions are the open hatch which is magnetized, the raised floor inside that allows a representative figure to stand up out of the hatch, and the storm bolters on the front hatches.
Here is one of my two Land Speeder Typhoons. Lots of conversions here. First the two Mk VI crewment and a gun mount that actually traverses from left to right. Top and lower gun (below the hull) are magnetized as are the typhoon missile launchers that have been shifted from the side doors to the back of the hull.
Gitsplitta wrote: That's a pretty awesome scratch build there scyfi... Love the squig on top of the wheel... nice touch & gives a wonderful focal point on that big area.
i guess its not so much a "conversion" huh?
well I mean, I converted those squigs, am-i-right?
They still need pirate hats and eye patches but its almost there. hehe my favorite is the little guy under the wheel, one of the old 40k squigs with bug eyes and a smile
I did this over a year ago and sadly it has still not been painted. The idea came from someone else's conversion and I can't remember who's it was.
I converted this model for a 40K style Zombicide style game I was working on, I then discovered Zombicide which is amazing and kinda lead me to shelve this project.
Finecast terminator librarian, Grey Knight Paladin sword arm (with some guitar wire and telephone line for the connecting tubes), an open hand from some Death Company model, small details from the Ravenwing upgrade sprue, and a hooded head from the Deathwing Knights kit.
I love this. Really quite subtle changes but really well done. Looks great, post again when painted.
Reeno, I'd make him a special character for Zombicide, either a survivor or LARPer Fatty would work for me. In fact, I quite like the idea of a WH40K LARP group, so now you just need a couple of walkers and a couple of runners to round out the group.
That is awesome. I love this nurgly land raider, and I could totally tell that giant parasite worm on it was a purple worm mini from D&D or reaper haha very cool
I feel like I finally have a conversion worth posting so here's the WiP photos so far. It's a mark 2 forgeworld armor I was given but since I dot like the mark 2 I turned it into a mark 3 iron armor, except for the shin guards because my guy wants to be fast not super heavily armored ;p
Prawfut Bludskin! Now with Mega Armor! and mega claw, and mega shoota! 2 more pics in my gallery if you are interested!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also Note... I will have to put pics up when painted as I just realized I photo'd this prior to minor details. Swapped head with a screaming head, added muffler tips to the exhaust ports, and lots and lots of rivets.
Completely in awe of your skill as I can't sculpt to save my life, but have to say, I'm not a fan of the "Charleston" pose on her. Taking each bit singly, I can't find fault - but together in that pose it seems less "I'm gonna cut your head off", more "I'm gonna make you dance until you get blisters".

I'm not 100% fine with the pose myself. Poses are still not my stroing point. Also the basic model was a resque mission of a model i started a year or so ago. It would have been better in the long run if i just scraped it and started with a new pose but i'm the kind of guy who hates wasting stuff. At least i learned something in the process.
Looks fantastic, I am not sure on pose. Kinda somewhere between Charleston, and girlie running. I don't know why but anytime I try a larger model like this it always ends up looking knock knee'd not made one yet that was bowlegged.
The model is still brilliant, and am completely jealous of your skills. Awesome.

Now that just sounds awesome. I can't wait to see that.
Cthulhu-Nids has been a concept playing on my mind for a while... Always though to myself "If I ever start a Tyranid army..." I'm glad someone had a similar idea, it's good to see it come to fruition.
Good luck with your endeavours!
Thanks for all the comments, i intend to push forward with at least a basic list to start, but feel free to check out the progress on my P&M from time to time.
My latest favourite. DV termie chaos conversion.
Still needs mould lines removing, and painting but I'm pleased with it so far as a lot of work has gone into it.
I feel that this is my best conversion yet. It is about 95% GW model bits and the rest is green stuff. I was influenced by HP Lovecraft. It started as a Heldrake model and then I had to convert it. I convert most all of my Warhammer 40K models just a little bit. I have only been playing for about 2 years and I love the hobby. Chaos allows so much converting. The pictures are not the best. I need to get a better camera. So what are your thoughts on the HP Luvcraftdrake? Oh ya I am a new member to this forum and I hope this goes through right.
^That is truly awesome! Looks like something straight out of a lovecraft story!!! I may have to steal this idea/ do something similar when I get my hell drake! May I ask what you used for the tentacle/arms? Excellent work!
The three torsos I used all came in a lot from eBay, if I had actually decided to spent money on finecast I would have sent it back, but I have sworn never to buy the stuff unless I absolutely have to have to, after actually using the stuff though it is easier to convert so I have changed my stance to: I wont buy the stuff unless it's cheap (e.g. not new), lol.

Should have complianed to the seller then. To say that selling broken product is acceptable is a lie.
My currant favourite Guardsmen I've done. Commissar Lord based on the Cadian Commander model. Not flashy but I think it works.

It was a whole bundle of stuff and frankly for the undead I really don't mind a bit of poorly casted finecast on three torsos .

I really appreciate that subtle conversion. In a thread full of massive monstrosities and absolutely insane kitbashes, it's refreshing to see something tasteful and understated. Doesn't hurt that he's one of my favorite IG miniatures as well.
This was something I did a long time (1994?) ago so paint quality isn't very good but I've always loved it, my customised terminator captain of my childhood Blood Angels Army!

Thanks a lot, yep Brian Nelson really outdid himself, glad to see it inducted into the GW hall of fame too. It's based on a pic of his grandad in the WWI apparently. Pleased to see you 'get' it too, subtle is what I was aiming for.
Glad you like it, although it was intended to be a custom Chaplain. However, having seen the sheer epic-ness of your own Mantis Warriors, I'll take your praise for an assault marine anyday - Cheers!

i love this model SO much! It embodies what I have always seen the blood angels as.
My best conversion to date.
I'm really happy how he turned out.
He is coooool as! The face is extremely nice I love the colours used and how well the white worked out on his face. What does he count as? Ive never seen a model like him.
@ Solar Shock: I just made him for fun but I might use him if I ever find someone to play Inquisimunda/Dark Heresy/Inq28 with...
Check my project log, there's more to come.
Here are some of my recent Blood Angels conversions. Nothing too fancy, I just like using all of the BA bitz to make different models. No need to spend lots of money on Librarians and Sanguinary Priests.
Well I have a few i just recently completed. I ain't no master but I am okay with building stuff. Just medicore at best.
Plan on panting them in camo colors. But the characters. The Guy with the scythe looking thing is going to be colored similar to black and his armor looks like as if it has screaming souls on it. Kelitizifiel will look like a prehersey thousand son. (Hence why he is nicknamed the Red Sorcerer within the chapter) And the Imperius will be colored bronze with red highlights. Once I get my paint brush hand to stop shaking.

I feel like I have to explain myself here.
He is not a boy - he is clever Gretchin.
He is responsible for two systems : Target Obliteration Processor and Guided Interceptor Turret.
Whole unit name is TOP GIT.
So, you know - that's very important role.
/edit: I think I just confused myself. Of course that driver is a Rokkit Boy. I thought you were saying it about that Gretchin who sits in the cockpit below shoulder mounted gatling.

Go ahead. The wheels were super inexpensive. Too bad AoBR is discontinued.
The Warpsmith is fantastic! The only thing that detracts from it is the size of that gun! But I think that is largely due to the angle of the photograph.
One of the best faces I have seen in a long time, the pallid grey is perfect! Keep it up!
