Thanks for the tips guys. I have a CR account as well and that's where I get most of my anime watching done. Just started really, but this thread has been a great help in avoiding the bad stuff and watching the good stuff.
So far, I've watched (in no particular order)
Gundam Wing
Mobile Suit Gundam 0079
Mobile Suit Gundam 8th MS team
Cowboy Bebop
Attack on Titan
Steins; Gate
Nobunagun
Sword Art Online
Trigun
Space Dandy - in progress
Full Metal Panic/Full Metal Panic Fumafu
Kill la Kill
Kind of stuck though. I'm thinking about starting Psycho Pass, but after watching Cowboy Bebop, Steins; Gate, and Attack on Titan back to back to back I feel like I'm in for a disappointment.
Full Metal Alchemist was the first series. It diverted from the Manga fairly heavily.
Brotherhood was a reboot that followed the Manga much more closely and told a more collected and coherent story.
You should watch both, but Brotherhood first as its the better story.
I think the discrepancy was because the first series came out before the Manga was finished and it outpaced the release of the Manga, so it didn't follow it at all towards the end.
No, you watch Brotherhood second if you watch both Alchemist series. Due to all the filler in the first series, Brotherhood covers the first half of it in like five episodes, so if you watch Brotherhood second you get to the stuff you've not seen yet much quicker.
If you only watch one of them though make it Brotherhood.
Grey Templar wrote: There is no Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood on your list.
You should fix that.
Nor do I see any "Rebuild of Evangelion". Or Gurren Lagann.
You can also join up and start watching Log Horizon.
Ofc It will help knowing what type of anime you are in the mood for
Don't forget Macross Frontier. Excellent animation, great music, awesome combat scenes. And of course, my personal favorite from the 90s: the Vision of Escaflowne.
I think you can watch it whenever with adds, obviously subscribers get preferential treatment to new stuff first and so on, probably certain shows are subscriber only, but when I was watching on there I didn't have to sign up for anything.
I think it's free permanently, but there is a "Trial" thing which gives you better quality vids and no ads for a month.
While I remember, I was browsing TVTropes and found out that the guy who voices Roy Mustang in Full Metal Alchemist : Brotherhood, also did Kisuke Urahara from Bleach, and Aikuro Mikisugi from Kill La Kill (The homeroom teacher)
I just found that strangely awesome!

Agreed on all 3.
Psycho Pass is a pretty good anime and a second season is in the works too. I would add Gundam Zeta to your list as well. I should stop there or you would have a possible "To-Watch" list so long it would be ridiculous (ridiculously awesome that is)
The Grumpy Eldar wrote: I liked the Macross Frontier movies better. In comparisson to the series. It wraps stuff up way better.
Maybe, except
Spoiler:
Alto is MIA, Sheryl is comatose, and Ranka is heartbroken. On a more positive note, with Alto in possession of a fold crystal and Sheryl a Human-Vajra hybrid, their consciousness would still be together forever in the Vajra super-dimension network.

Clearly everyone is forgetting about Ghost in the Shell (both the original and SAC).
Haha thanks for sharing that video! I found it really entertaining I mean once you mature and get outa highschool you realize what he is saying for your self, but I'm sure there are people who found it enlightening.
As far as current anime goes, I'm still enjoying Hamatora, Noragami, and Space Dandy. Log horizon is still really struggling to keep up my interest.
Spoiler:
I'll admit that the last episode was pretty interesting with how the managed to save Rudy. But Man, if they would have killed him. I think that would have been pretty sweet. You almost never see major characters die for real anymore. I just get so sick of seeing the near death or death of a character, just to have them brought back. Dragonball Z is an exception for me Goku must never die!!!!!!
GrimDork wrote: Steve Blum is basically everybody, it's amazing how much some of these voice actors get around
I remember in Armored Core For Answer he had a major role, but he also had did the voice for some side characters as well, which would be fine apart from one of the final boss paths has both his characters on at the same time.
Thank you very much for this video, this was quite interesting and I do relate with what he says near the end. I do have friends and I'm a big believer of "hey, do what makes you happy as long as you don't disturb others!" and I don't even have a single waifu but still, I have some damn big walls.
Again, it was very interesting and it really was nice to hear a video about this from someone who clearly wasn't a troll and seems to have a good head on his shoulders.
Oh, and as someone who joined the touhou-fandom some months ago because of a single Flandre Scarlet's remix (my first touhou related music ever heard), his Touhou 101 video is pure gold. I agree with all he says, I'm a fething fan without playing a single game, but I have heard literally hundreds of touhou fan made music, watched anime made by fans (the quality still boggles my mind) and there's even a yearly stand up comedy end of the year special with touhou characters (animated ofc)
And yes, porn, lots and lots and lots... good ol' fakku.
The Universe collapses in the ensuing gakstorm. First, butt frustration all around.
Imagine 2 guys carrying the same waifu meeting up. Do you think she'd be called a slut?
Or I wonder if they duel for her hand. Research is needed!
I vote for the duel
If anything a compromise could be reached, where two waifus representing the same character are not actually the same. By this I mean they could be alternate versions from different parallel universes or alternate realities or something like that.
I'm waiting for Japanese industry to make them real via robotics. Or maybe advanced genetic engineering. You never know which way Japanese tech will spring. Imagine the insanity then.
Robotics. They're already working on it. There's companies set up that're working specifically on making realistic moving and feeling and looking androids and gynoids. All they need is the AI/human interface/spacial recognition software.

Huh, and I figured google and amazon would herald the robot revolution.

I for one welcome our waifu overlords.
Admiral Valerian wrote:Or just make create genetically-engineered bodies which are then imprinted with predetermined personality profiles ala the Innovades from Gundam 00.
I'm currently hoping for both Mechs and Cat-Girls to be invented . And by the God-Emprah, if "Chobits" became a reality, I'd turn to the Waifu side
Totally real fact: we already have the genes to grow a tail, but they are inactive. So we can give you Saiyans, but cat-girls are gonna take a bit longer.
Artificial Humans are the closest by far. Genetic alteration to provide superior speed, stamina, intelligence, resistance to disease...think of the potential that could be unlocked by removing the limits of our gene-code!

Or we go one step further and put everybody in a prosthetic/cybernetic body...saying that we then go into Ghost In The Shell territory lol. I really should rewatch it.
Actually, yeah. People have sex. People are stupid, and have unprotected sex. If we give the really stupid people an easily accessible option that won't result in children, hopefully they'll take it.
I am now going to interrupt this chain of posts about a paradise like Earth where "Waifubots" (I like that name, catchy) are a reality to bring you something completely random... that I must watch. It seems it's one of those 2-3 mns animes, "Plastic Nee San"

This is an accurate anime representation of the Miniature Wargaming community as a whole.

Why was he wearing a training bra? The level of strange shot through the roof at that point and didn't stop.
Every week I must find a new .gif to express my incredulity.
I won't be able to find one for this week.
Spoiler:
And yes, that Mako / Gamogori, DAYUM.
And it's so FANTASTIC to see Satsuki still remains with that supreme Iron Will.
And good heavens, Nonon is ridiculously fething hot and sexy in her nudist beach "outfit"
SERIOUSLY!
KLK
Spoiler:
I didn't know what to think of Nonon, but after this episode....... (Naked, sexy, and sassy. Just how I like my women). Anyone else notice how Mrs. Mankanshoku didn't stop staring in awe at Mikisugi's crotch the entire time she was near him. And the Mako/Gamagori ship is still going strong. The molestation really should stop though; that is just entirely unnecessary and tacked on. Otherwise great episode (Ryuko one shot kills in rage, yes).

Spoiler:
It was very kind of her to provide comic relief while Mako was away. It was suble but very funny, she couldn't take her eyes off his shining penis
In a way, besides the one in the bath I don't think the molestation is entirely tacked on. It shows how she completely dominates Satsuki: First in the battle, she had enough confidence and power to do it mid-battle and kick the crap outta her, now she has Satsuki caged and chained and under her complete control (or so she thinks). Not only that, people dislike it and it seems they start disliking Ragyo even more; If Trigger wanted people to hate the villain, mission successful
Fun fact - This is one of the largest collection of badasses associated with a character I ever saw in TVTropes
Spoiler:
Badass: Able to go toe to toe with Ryuko, and is a credible enough threat to make Nui back down when necessary. Badass Back: One of the few female characters who can successfully pull this off very well. Badass Baritone: Her voice is noticeably very prominent, especially when she's exercising her authority. Badass In Charge: The absolute ruler of Honnouji Academy. Badass Normal: Is able to put Ryuko (wearing Senketsu) in a pinch without a Goku Uniform or her Kamui. Empowered Badass Normal: Her sword Bakuzan is still a threat to Senketsu even without her having to wear her Kamui. Badass in Distress
Shiroe ignoring that woman didn't make any sense. It was too much of a coincidence for him to dismiss it like that, she said bit by bit what happened to Rudy and I really would like to know more about whoever knows the truth.
A new world changing spell together with a Demon Festival event and they are planning an autumn festival?! Seriously?! I wouldn't mind this direction one bit if I didn't know THERE'S A FREAKING DEMON FESTIVAL IN THE WEST!

This plot direction felt really weird.
Spoiler:
the only thing I found weird, and extremely inappropriate is that relationship they keep building up between the catman and that little girl. It's wrong on so many levels, and should just stop. Besides that the episode was pretty interesting. But ya I agree Shiroe acted a little naive, out of character even, when that mysterious lady repeated word for word what happened to Rudy. Also the "air glasses" at the end was pretty hilarious.

Girls can be furrys too i guess. The point of this episode was clearly to just give all the shippers a big slice of service.
We did all realise the storyteller lady was the weird mage who studies world-class magic? Everyone caught that, right?
I agree the Nyanta/Serara ship's a bit weird, damn furries! I feel maybe the show's having direction issues - it seems a bit all-over the place, to the point it went nowhere. Liking the idea that public opinion is turning against Shiroe - maybe a banishment of him and his "team" will bring it back down from high strategy and politics to squad combat again? I hope so!
On the Plus side, I've come to really like the intro music

I'm way behind on shows now. I'm out of date on Nobunagun, the Fool, Kill la Kill and Space Dandy. I think I'm just going to wait until they're all done and then watch them in one go because I suck right now.
It's ok. I like how they developed Rock's character and Revy's backstory a bit, but I didn't like how OP they made Roberta. I mean, the psycho can fire a combi- .50 rifle / nade launcher single handed, and decapitate people by kicking them 0_o
Also, when is Lotten going to do something?! I want to see him in action. Stop teasing me!

Spoiler:
is she? do we know *anything* about her player?
Spoiler:
we don't need to, her character is a small child. People are essentially their characters in this world. Even if that weren't true, going on to something like second life and becoming a pedophile is disturbing, no matter how old the people role playing the children are.
Like I said- it's METAL. Kinda refreshing considering that, as an Anime, it could easily have been made more...
You know how Anime has that sorta bland-yet-inspiring Hero theme stuff? The big swelling classical music and soaring Oriental instrumentals, with some faux-latin chanting thrown in for the 'mysterious' stuff?
Or the high-tech shows go for pure electronica?
Yeah, Nobunagun just lets loose with the screaming guitar riffs and throat-tearing growling.

Lotton is surprisingly the smart one, despite his posturing. Note that unlike a lot of other people, when fighting Revy he wore body armor. However, he mostly does stand around looking cool in the manga too.

Oh, I gathered that. He does fool around a lot with that hero nonsense, but he can't be a complete idiot, otherwise he'd be dead a long time ago. In fact, he'd have to be either very lucky or smart enough to avoid death (like Rincewind from Discworld).
I just want to see him actually fight. There are 2 possibilities - he's either absolutely terrible, or he's as good as Revy when it comes to gunslinging. Then again, I haven't read the mangas, so he might have seen some action there.
It would be interesting. His choice in weapons and body armor suggest that he likes to out-range his opponents, the 7.63 Mauser generally having superior range and penetration to Revy's 9mms. The Schnellfeuer version he uses has a fire select. So He definitely seems to have options in a fight.
haha I love Gintama! It's one of those shows that are meant to be watched with friends though. I can't just watch it by myself and start laughing hysterically in my room
So The Pilot's Love Song basically lost me as a viewer today on the strength, or rather the weakness of it's aerial combat. The "bad guys" showed some nice tactics over the last two episodes, even if it's pilots were a bit eagerly suicidal imho, but when they finally pulled off the reveal...
Spoiler:
I'm sorry those gakky jalopies the "good guys" fly are VTOL garbage that can't even begin to maneuver safely or effectively. Against the "sorta Bf109s" the "sorta Germans" (they even had "sorta" MP40s for their infantry) they should have been decimated in seconds. Their entire force, not just the trainees. Also who the feth thought it was a bright idea to send the trainees up with RIFLES!? Sure I get it, honorable turret based warfare from the back seater is how you guys do air to air, and a bolt action rifle's just fine to train that type of (incredibly stupid) gunnery with, but the feth's a clearly small caliber, short rifle, going to do against a melon-fething Bf109!? gak besides plot armor and the bullets apparently being magic and causing the enemy fighters to spontaneously combust when they came within a couple YARDS of hitting the mark there's just no reasonable explanation. We had fething machine guns on slow moving biplanes by the end of WW1 because a rifle or hand gun, which is what we started with for air to air combat besides rude gestures and foul language, were an absolute pig to hit a fast moving (fast moving by WW1 standards, which when you compare to a WW2 fighter like the Spitfire, Bf109, or P-51, or goddess forbid the Me262, is like you're standing still or floating along in a weather balloon) target.
I'm still gonna power through the remaining eps at some point just in the name of getting my mushy romance fix, but feth this anime and who ever came up with it's combat design. There's suspension of disbelief and then there's this bs.

I havn't seen the show, but your description paints a pretty vivid picture, at least for me. Sounds a little odd, but I am usually willing to overlook silly "mistakes" I guess you could say? Mistakes like that in anime, if the rest of the show is entertaining and compelling enough. Side note, I like how it edited your text to say melon-fething. Your description and arguments were great and everything, but that was the best part of reading that lol

I refuse to watch GuP for the exact same reason. Well, that and the entire idea of that series offends me.

Sure, the silly or little mistakes are what come down to your suspension of disbelief. Maybe it's because I'm an aviator, maybe it's because I've spent too much time watching aerial combat vids and gun camera footage but this is a few steps too far in the wrong direction for me for what is a central tenant of the show.
@Soladrin, see I can forgive GuP.
1. Tank warfare is a tradtional martial art for women.
Okay it's odd but compared to magical girls it's down right normal.
2. High School Senshado teams compete with each other regularly, and with the exception of the occasional field or navigational hazard no one gets hurt.
Well if I'm letting the first one slide, what's a little handwavium? The universe is internally consistent and it's fun enough to not need too much of a stretch mentally.
I've heard the original version of BBgC was a ton better- unfortunately, it's also a ton rarer. The Tokyo 2040 was a remake with 'better' graphics, but supposedly much worse pacing and acting.
If you guys looking for a action-packed, high-octane movie, fast-faced movie that you want to shut your brain off and have fun with, then I found the movie for you.
Yeah, I'm hyped alright, but this is the awesome thing:
Spoiler:
Nonon, seriously, stop being awesome!
If Nonon doesn't stop, then she is going to break my awesometer. That and she might jump straight up to waifu status (hey guys, remember that time we talked about waifus).
Still 22 hours till the Kill l a kill action arrives. I guess I just have to watch something else in the meantime. It looks like i have to catch up on witchcraft works, nobonagun and the pilots love story, inari kon kon and d-frag first anyway. Oh my. That's more than lions, tigers and bears.
I think I do like Nobunagun better, actually. Kill la kill is crazy and all, but it's generic Anime crazy. Overly-powerful student government, built-in fanservice, nods to Koh and Kabuki theatre, use of Kendo as a weaponized sport, main character has a 'katana', overblown rivalry, quirky best friend, shadowy group of 'elites' that must be defeated to succeed, goal is a simple question that really shouldn't require a gauntlet of zany combats to get answers to...
All the old tropes.
Nobunagun, though it also is chock full of tropes, breaks in some key ways- the main character isn't "Generic Anime Protagonist #11", but is rather a geeky military kid. The show isn't about "Making friends makes you more powerful!" but, allowing for the base concept being Sci-Fi/Fantasy, is a solid take on the trials of war and how they change people drafted into service. The soundtrack is Metal instead of "Generic Anime Orchestrals #13", I'm about 5 or 6 episodes in and the protagonist is still struggling to master their abilities- no "struggles for 2 episodes then master sniper" dross here.
Also, crunchyroll being fully free (don't care 'bout no commercials, though I wish they didn't show the same one twice in a row so often) is rather nice- means I can finally catch up on all the esoteric anime that I've wanted to watch.

Kind of agree and I do like nobunagun better too, but.. it's not by much, they both just fall in the same space with different tropes for me. After having marathoned stuff like steins gate, macross zero, macross frontier, break blade and a lot more it all feels a lot less interesting to me lately.
Probably going to watch Eve No Jikan tomorrow and will probably giving Soul Eater a rewatch.
I know what you mean, but KLK just presses all the right buttons for me: when I watched episode 1, I was interested. When I saw episode 3,I knew I was going to be a total fanboy of the show.
Spoiler:
An epic duel between the "hero" and "villain" in episode 3? The sheer ammount of fun, epic music, animation and Satsuki kept being one of the coolest and most badass characters that I know of, uff, What an episode!
Ah, Soul Eater, I love that show. I cried tears of laughter far too many times because of the Kid and the master of the Shinigami Chop I do have a small figure of Shinigami-Sama, he's fantastic.

I actully enjoy 3 shows this season more than KLK. Its still more fun to talk about a show we enjoy in common than some random this though. I am enjoying Log horizon most, then Noragami and Magi before KLK. I dont disagree that its enjoyable at all though.
KLK is my favorite I think of the season, it just hits the right buttons despite using all the anime cliches, kind of liken Gurren Lagann. But yes, loving Noragami (can't wait for next episode!), Log Horizon, Nobunagun, and Magi. Tokyo Ravens, Hamatora, and Buddy Complex have also been good.
On the old, Soul Eater definitely ranks up there. I love how they actually have some fight good choreography instead of just blurred punches. That brings me right into Full Metal Alchemist as well, which is also superb.

I'm all about Noragami man, love me some of that. I don't really know how to describe it, but I like a lot. It's probably my favorite show of the season
Spoiler:
Like Yukine just keeps breaking my heart. I can't stay mad at him though, I'm really pulling for him to turn around
Also I need some help for anyone who has seen Ghost in the Shell. I think this may have been talked about before, but I was wondering about which order I should watch the movies in. I have seen the series, 1 season and second, and the following special. I never watched the moves, so I was going to start with the movie "Ghost in the Shell." After that, I'm not sure whether to watch "Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence" next, or "Ghost in the Shell 2.0"
It doesn't look like 2.0 is set in the same timeline as the other two, so is it safe to watch it last?
I never figured out the order of the movies myself.
In other news Witch Craft Works keeps getting better and better <3
It, KLK, Log Horizon, probably Golden Time and maaaaaybe Gin no Saji are all looking forward to extremely positive reviews from me, and a DVD buy on release in the U.S.
Kill la Kill
Gundam Build Fighters
Log Horizon
Cardfight!! Vanguard Season 3
D-Frag!
Buddy Complex
Golden Time
Saki: the Nationals
Nisekoi
in that order. These are all shows that I watch on a weekly basis and enjoy a lot. There are a couple other anime I catch up on as I go, but those are the main ones this season.
I know one of the GiTS movies is a direct continuation of the other- so I think watching the plain Ghost in the Shell movie first works out more. I think Innocence is the direct sequel, while 2.0 is either a reboot or meant to tie in to Complex more.
Ahh ty you guys, and ya I have heard there is a lot of unnecessary nudity. But, the Major was dressed pretty scantly in the series from time to time, like to the point of being really awkward. She also offered to have sex with a teenage boy in the original series, so I'm not sure how much more I can be shocked lol

You really can't stomach much on that subject can you?
Also, on episode 6 of Jormungand now. This series is like Black Lagoon, except SOOO MUCH BETTER. Just don't think about morals when you watch it though. The main characters are arms dealers and it goes full on detail, including child soldiers etc. It's all modern military, no sc-fi. Big thumbs up for this series though.

What are you talking about? Jormungand? I don't even remember a Major in that, but heck, characters can do what they want, as long as they don't break character. I might not like them, or the show they're in (looking at you Marri Nikai), but really you should know what your getting into when you watch a show and not bash it for elements that you don't like.

He's talking about GitS, which is pretty tame IMO.

You would love it, the mian character is a strong female schemer that reminds me a bit of your current idol. Though she's a lot less serious.

No I don't mind the way the Major acts in Gits so much, or her clothing most of the time. If she had been posing as a stripper or a hooker her outfits would have made a lot more sense. It just didn't fit to have her dressed like some dominatrix. But like I said, that was only here and there, and I was able to overlook it most of the time. My roommate suggested that it was bc she has a full cyber body and just treats it like a tool or some object. That's sounds reasonable to me, but probably isn't what the authors intended. They probably just wanted their main female character to look hot. That's all I have a problem with, having characters act or dress a certain way, or including characters and scenes simply to attract viewers instead of for logical reasons.

Yeah if I remember in one episode she was fighting stripper bots while dressed as a stripper. I think it was pretty blatant how sexual they were. While I think that took away from the show the female characters were hot and I'm a guy so I didn't care that much.
Obviously you've never seen enough cyber-punk. A recurring theme with cyber punk includes killing half the cows in the world for the purpose of clothing people in bondage leather alone.
She (the major) has a fully artificial body and regards it as little more than clothing. She even has her body replaced a few times.
She is a post-human, not human.
Her body is artificial, like so many body-based taboos.
As for killing cows to clad the characters in leather ... In cyberpunk, you can clone the cowskin for the leather. Cell cultures are so much more 'punk than a pooping grass-eating thing.

Then the makers deserve more credit than I gave them lol Quite brilliant, develop a character AND attract male viewers
Kind of on the topic of GITS and Cyber-punk, I agree with Chromedog's analysis on the Major, as death almost has little to no meaning to her as long as her Ghost is still intact, but manages to still act human to a degree. Also, I suggest checking out this, as it touches on it in more detail, as well as a comparison to western sci-fi/ cyberpunk a little bit.

Yeah, her character is so post-Human that its actually a bit scary. She's literally nothing more than a consciousness who views the 'flesh' as a vessel.

Idk that philosophical idea is something I have always agreed with and found easy to rap my head around. The Human body is only significant because the soul and your consciousnesses uses it like a shell. The thing I am weary of is the step further beyond. The idea of the connected consciousnesses and loss of individuality. I don't like the idea of that very much, and don't have as great of an understanding of it.
They vaguely discuss it in Gits second gig. It's also talked about in the movie "Her" a bit, a movie I highly recommend seeing. But all the different forms of media and writing that I have seen talk about anything related to this topic usually does not delve into it very deeply. I guess it's a scary idea for everyone lol
@Soladrim - the more you say about that anime, the more I feel the need to watch it. You even compared it to black lagoon, so, hell yeah! (Balalaika was so freakin' fantastic)
@GitS discussion - wow, I only ever saw the movie... I have some serious catching up to do, it seems
@CthulhuSpy - nice one
Well, just saw Samurai Flamenco and wow,
Spoiler:
From a show that started with a guy dressing up as a hero and telling people not to litter or jail-walk, to meeting and talking with GOD, or the Will of the Universe.
They even explained why the constant Flamencos and plot-twists.
And still it has't finished! It felt like a final episode, but NOPE! Still more to come!
Well, 1:20 am and still no KLK... I hate weeks I have to wait until I'm back to the motherland, but oh well, such is life.

Well, the action and themes are a bit like Black Lagoon, except, everything in Black Lagoon was small time compared to this. It's all about arms dealers with the kind of money and power to even launch their own satellites. All the supporting characters are also great.
Also, pretty sure the same band did the intros for them, they are to similar in style.
GitS is in fact one of the premier Cyberpunk, Post Human works in general, not even just in Anime. It's right up there with Blade Runner and Neuromancer in terms of codifying the genre and delving into the ideas and themes of what it is to be human in a world of unlimited technological advancement.
HUZZAH! The return of Takarada! He even went serious for a moment.
Spoiler:
So next week, the fight of the century. Where everyone loses except Ragyo, cuz she's a jerk like that.
Spoiler:
That would set-up an almost insurpassable wall for Ryuuko to surpass. It would just make Ragyo even more evil and seemingly more powerful. I say the scissor blade needs to be completed.

Unfortunately, every time I try to have hope for the future of humanity, crap gets even more real.
I agree with you, though, and if there's anyone who can knock some sense into Ryuko... well, I'd say Mako, but at this point she needs the sense beaten into her, and Satsuki is best for that.
Here's hoping this is when things turn around. A house divided cannot stand! The future of humanity rests with a Nietzschean wannabe and a brainwashed girl with serious parental issues.
...If it were anyone else, I'd say we'd be doomed, but this is Kill la Kill, and for them, that's just a regular day of the week
The Quincy Empire aka the Vandenreich has declared war on Soul Society. Yamamoto was killed by Quincy Emperor Juha Bach (who is also the first Quincy) after getting his Bankai stolen, the Gotei 13 sans the Captains and Lieutenants and a few other lucky mooks have been wiped out, and the Seireitei has been destroyed. Oh and Ichigo (who is actually part Quincy) and Co. have been getting training from the Royal Guard.
wait so now he's a human that's also a soul reaper and also part hollow... and now he's part wonky magic bow guy too? Next you're gonna tell me he's 1/16 Cherokee on his mothers side =/ maybe he can be part zanpakto too!? . I guess since they wrote the character to be so boring they had to keep doing stuff to help him out, but it seems like well over half of his friends, allies, and enemies are more interesting (least to me).
I guess at least its interesting that a people who were supposedly wiped out got to turn around and do that to the people who did it to them in the first place..
Say, do any of his friends ever manage to keep up or are they all just perma-krillans? Seems like they always power up to take out mooks ichigo might have one shot on a good day, only to have him step it up even further to fight surprise turbo OP boss. A shame too, some of the side chars are pretty neat.

Not 1/16 Cherokee, but he did get both his Quincy power and his hollow from his mother...who was a quincy. The love story between his mother and father was amazing.....she saves him from a hollow thing of Aizen's, he saves her from hollowification, and then they hang around each other, and then Ichigo is born (no word of a lie that was how it went). And in a technical sense, he is part hollow which is apart of his zanpakto. So in a broad sense, he is part zanpakto. I find this whole arc is dragging its feet really bad, and is barely holding my interest with all the new shiny power-ups.
Holy smokes just finished the latest episode of Kill La Kill. Sweet Lord almighty things just keep escalating!
Spoiler:
How is it possible that Satsuki keeps getting more badass every ep. that passes? Next thing we know her teeth will also be coated in whatever Bakuzan was made out of. Also did anybody feel a liiitle bit creeped out at that part where Ryuuko was forced into Junketsu? Momma just has to molest all her kids doesn't she? *shudders*
Isn't the sword just kind of part of their soul anyway? Or spirit juice. Backstory concerning Ichigo's mom and dad actually sounds interesting, moreso than Ichigo himself. I dunno if it stayed the same, I watched the show up to Aizen finally getting sealed whereupon Ichigo was supposed to lose his powers. Haven't been back around, but did he ever get more interesting than "hit stuff with sword", potentially mope around for a week or two if that didn't work, etc? I mean his bankai (most of which are amazing) was to get a smaller sword, and go fast. That's it =/ Not rewire your opponents senses, or play some kind of game outside even the wielder's control, or shoot a nuke, or make a bazillion cherryblossoms, giant snake, etc etc etc, but go fast. And if someone's more powerful than him? probably already faster. I think Naruto gets all wonky on it's own terms, but at least the main character for that show learns new tricks and uses them. I think ichigo picking up some of that binding/offensive soul reaper magic would have been an amazing opportunity for depth. Oh well, it's still a neat concept for a show and all, and I had fun watching the parts I did
Satsuki got even MORE badass! She literally kicked-ass NAKED.
Never, ever have I considered the possibility of switching the uniforms. I saw people theorizing that in reddit but for it to really happen. Gods, what an episode.
And was it just me, or that face when Ryuko went bananas... Maybe I have been reading too much of the wrong stuff, but that was one hell of a "raped" face Really felt sorry for Ryuku there. Ofc, right then, all gak broke loose and I'm left with anotheiof waiting.

From what I gathered, the zanpakuto are made by one of the heaven guard fellows and are tempered by their owner. He also seems to think that people treat the zanpakuto poorly as a whole.
http://www.mangareader.net/bleach/523/9 mentions this. Mr strawberry gets a new bankai anyway so hopefully its not just go fast mode this time. What we've seen of Renji's and Rukia's new bankai is pretty badacre though.
Indeed! I did not see that one coming. Did not help that another of the animes I'm watching had an apparent major character death as well in its next episode.

Ya they have got some balls for sure. I have a feeling it may end up being like FMA when that really annoying/lovable officer was killed by envy. Huges was his name right? Like as soon as they start to develop Art, boom dead! What a way to start and finish an episode
Regarding Bleach...I don't know. I kinda like the Vandenreich and how they do things.
Spoiler:
For starters, they've broken 'standard' shonen rules to obtain results, such as:
1) Instead of engaging in pre-fight dialogues, they go straight onto the offensive while their enemies are still blabbing away.
2) Use smoke screen tactics; the initial invasion saw a lot of Shinigami officers dead when the Star Knights used the reishi pillars they invaded the Seiretei with as cover for massed Heilig Pfeil barrages.
3) Send in the heavy hitters first to knock out/cripple the opposition before sending in the mooks to finish the enemy. With the Captains tied up/incapacitated/dead at the hands of the Star Knights, the Soldat had no problems slaughtering the disorganized and confused rank and file of the Shinigami army.
4) Use deception and intelligence; the Vandenreich took advantage of Soul Society's arrogance to build their empire literally in the shadows of Seireitei, the last place the Shinigami ever expected them to be. And they gathered information about their enemies' trump card (Bankai) so they could take it and use it against them. And even when that was countered, they still had their own equally-powerful trump card to fall back on.
It felt like a filler... sure, there was some character development with Akatsuki finally moving her ass and Minori understanding about how she likes Shiro, and yes, it was fun sometimes...
But all I could think about when watching it was "Demon Festival... there's a freakin' Demon Festival event in the West and this is all about an Autumn Festival... I could be watching Demons raping stuff, but no, Harem like episode ... " It felt like Sword Art Online all over again..
It is my biggest hope this isn't a filler. In fact, I hope
Spoiler:
The first 2 days of the festival are OK and then right near the end Demons show up and feth everything up. And I mean, everything, I want to see those mobs kicking the tar outta everyone and destroying the chapel so the players don't respawn, well, at least there (if this is even possible). That should put some sense back in their heads.
Last time my MMO-based anime went into full love territory, SAO happened. I don't want another SAO. Ever. Again.
I liked the episode of log horizon. Innocent and cute for the most part.
Spoiler:
Akatsuki realizing that she, being a uni student was up against a middle schooler cracked me up. Minori should have seen it coming, with the whole cake thing, but I guess her not seeing it coming was half the reason she was so shocked. It looked like we have a smiler episode next week going by the title. Also, it not filler. This is in the novels. Your just going to need to deal with the fact some people enjoy the relationships of the characters and want to see those relationships advance past 'i hope senpai notices me.'
Next season. looks good from what I can see. I use Anichart.net to look the next season up.
I am looking at: Atelier, Black bullet, Break blade (never did finish the manga), Date a live 2, Fuun Ishin Dai Shogun, Gokukoku no Brynhildr, Hitsugi no Chaika, Jojo (woop!), Kenzen Robo Daimidaler (this gak sounds legit), Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, Mushishi 2, No game no life, Selector Infected WIXOSS, Sidonia no Kishi, And soul eater not. You can see why I watch a few out of season. I drop about 1/3 the stuff i pick up too. (funny enough, Im watching more shows currently this season that I just listed.)
Just finished watching Black Lagoon... It was awesome, heart-breaking and really dark. Humorous in a totally black comedy style and realistic as well (except for the all the supposedly sharpshooters missing at point blank)...

Yeah, it gets even sillier in Roberta's Blood Trail.
There you have scenes where a whole squad open fire at a stationary exposed target, and they fail to land even 1 hit.
I mean, goddamn, Roberta must be a Sister of Battle or something to have that much of a willpower shield. Then again, she does spout a lot of religious rhetoric...
Nah, she'll live. They'll find out she was "infected" or something by that living metal and it'll save her life though she'll be possessed by it for a bit and they'll have to save her.

the problem isn't that they are taking time to develop their characters and their relationships with each other. It's just that they tend to derail the whole story when they do it. It works much better when they fit it into the plot, like with rudy and the bard when he almost died, or their team when they were struggling through the dungeon. They developed the characters and kept the plot moving. These stupid Autumn fests and beach days just delay the story and ruin the pacing. It wouldn't be so annoying if they didn't waste whole episodes on stuff like this. They also tend to take a lot of time on character dialogue, which does not help the situation. Almost the entire episode, of every episode, is conversation and shiroe or somebody else lifting up their glasses. With some slight editing, Log Horizon could have been the best thing to come out this season. It could have been one of my favorite anime. It has potential with a large cast of interesting characters and a good back story. Sadly it just looks to be ok
I still like Log Horizon a lot, but it needs a little more action -
Spoiler:
I'm hoping that Akatsuki remembers her class and just spawn-kills Minori a few hundred times until she forgets Shiroe completely - never liked Minori, definitely in the pro-ninja camp of the Shiroe-triangle

Spoiler:
the problem isn't that they are taking time to develop their characters and their relationships with each other.
Exactly! It's what I feel
Spoiler:
With this autumn festival. Isuzu and Rudy was a joy to watch, but this one is stopping everything else. Not only that, Shiroe seems to have had a character shift; it still bothers me to no end how he seems to have completely disregarded the mysterious woman as a coincidence. Not only that, both the new magic and the demons are in the west. Both! Again, too much of a coincidence and he seems not to give a damn.
They forgot about the Goblin Event, and all kinds of gak hit the fan.
I can't even imagine how much bigger a quantity of gak can hit the fan with a demon event.
Besides that, this week's Noragami was beautiful. KLK is my favorite Fall anime, but Noragami is my number 1 Winter one.
Spoiler:
This was one situation the "power of friendship" card didn't bother me at all. Yukine was so sorry after all that, even I felt like hugging the rascal and telling him everything was alright now, that I hope he learnt his lesson and not to do it again.
Besides that, Kofuku and her Regalia are absolutely fantastic
It's ok. The second season is better than the first imo; it's raunchier.
Though I am a bit annoyed by Tae's running gag, how she maims everyone and gets no flak. I'm pretty sure assaulting a government official on a regular basis is a bad thing...

The show's not meant to be taken seriously in any case though.

True. That still does not protect the gag from getting very old though.
I picked up Suzumiya Haruhi no yuutsu now that I finnished Mushishi. I'm quite surprised from what I expected to be quite the slice of life show turned out to be closer to Beyond the horizon in nature. (we cant ditch the school setting though) As always Tomokazu Sugita is the best freaking va ever. God I love his voice.

Yep.
Spoiler:
Takao's boobs should be considered Deadly Weapons by now. The Kinetic Energy they transfer to objects is probably enough to kill anyone. (And she's so damn cute it's ridiculous. No one will suspect Death is that cute)
Loved his little sister It's hilarious how she thinks Takao is one badass lady
Nobody has mentioned my favorite yet, Tokko. Somewhat obscure anime. If people exploding into blood every five seconds and subtle references to incest and the Fresh Prince of Bel Air sounds like your thing, behold:

27m launch. The part where Noe said Takao's boobs were amazing and her thinking that she got "bounced" back by the boobs was funny. Then you have Funabori sticking Kazama's bag on her head to protect it. (Takao is supremely cute, and innocent really)
We have been talking about anime for a long time. So a bit late to the party for this one but Gundam Build Fighters was pretty good again this week
Spoiler:
Really want the matches to end with something other than RG knuckle to the midsection. I mean i know it is supposed to be a throwback to G Gundam, but still.
I am also finding Buddy Complex to be fairly entertaining to watch once you get over the unfortunate name.
I am watching Sengoku Basira. I was hoping for something a little more grounded in reality such as Samurai Champloo rather than usual anime trappings of super powers and explosions. Certainly wasnt expecting someone holding three swords in each hand riding a horse with motorbike handle bars and an exhaust.
However embracing the sillyness I am starting to enjoy it.

Yeah, I loved this week's Gundam BF episode.
Spoiler:
Everything was going a bit grimdark, with Aila being forced to fight, that mind-rape crap, stuff that I felt shouldn't be in such a light-hearted show and then ...
When Aila snapped it was fantastic. She owned her former-boss, she owned the rich-bastard, she told his grandson what he should be doing and that fight, oh that glorious fight, to see a gundam jumping around calling the other idiot
The face of the ENTIRE audience was hilarious, even Sei was completely stunned

Well, it was like Fellini said the 2 of them were "flirting in their own way". Everyone was stunned because out of nowhere the unbeatable unflappable stern-faced Aila started having an argument with Reiji, and both were acting like idiots...in the middle of the match. I laughed when Reiji just up and invited Aila to live at Sei's house like it was a boarding house.

I really like the design they came up with for her character's ability. Although she would be totally dead in any other Gundam series, since the minofsky particles get dispersed everywhere. Besides that the episode was ok, although I did really enjoy when she snapped out of the mind control as well.
It's like you said before, the series is a giant throwback to G-Gundam. It's more oriented towards younger audiences and fans of the G-Gundam series. I never liked G-Gundam that much, which is probably why I find Gunpla Build Fighters just "ok."
carlos13th wrote: a little more grounded in reality such as Samurai Champloo

I said a little more grounded in reality. I didnt say so realistic I would confuse it for a documentary.
I think a breakdancing samurai who looks like he is doing capoeira with a sword is far more grounded in reality than many anime. It's certainly more grounded than sengoku bassara which has energy explosions when people fight, motorbike horses mecha samurai who flys and standard troops who's old job is to go flying in the air when they get attacked by a named character.
Well, I'm fething happy I woke up for no reason way earlier than I needed today; Managed to see KLK
Spoiler:
So, leave it to Satsuki to come up with a plan in one of the most desperate situations there is and pulling it off AND figuring out what's going on just by analysing Nui and her behaviour. This character is going beyond all that is epic.
And Satsuki in a Nudist Beach uniform? Heaven
Mako just proved once again how comic relief characters can be damn important to a plot and be badass comic relief characters!
I love Nui, but I admit, I loved that scene she was impaled against the wall. It was high-time she got some punishment from the good guys

Seconded. Also:
Spoiler:
Huzzah! Mako lives! Let the dysfunctional family reunion commence!
Also, yay for the nerd high-five between Inumuta and Iori.
So much nudity this episode! I mean it's not like they left much to the imagination before with the suspenders and thongs covering the bits that are supposed to be covered, but they didn't even have that this time. Just flat out on display, though granted without the actual details of said bits being drawn in. Doesn't really bother me at all personally, but I did find it surprising.

Spoiler:
i especially like how the main character stops acting like a jerk, it made him much more likeable for me and the show more enjoyable
Spoiler:
I liked him being a jerk, characters don't have to be nice to be interesting.
Spoiler:
Right I'm not saying he wasn't interesting, he was. I just didn't like him, killing people like its nothing, being mean. But, I'm a November 11 fan anyways
Well, that's all of Familiar of Zero watched and enjoyed. Nice series. Shame about the light novels, but at least the anime got a good ending (imo, at least.)
Hopefully the re-release of the first season'll spur releases of the other three...
In the meantime, my next course is clear: read the manga.

I agree with you. I also highly enjoyed watching the series, but why did you bring up the LNs. It still hurts about his (the authors) passing and the series going incomplete.
Hoo boy, I'm glad I wasn't watching that one somewhere people might have looked over my shoulder - and that's without the incest! Raygoh and Nui's innuendos at the beginning were not exactly subtle either...
The 4 Devas were really badass in this one, and Satsuki managed to be awesome even while getting pasted across the deck by Ryuko/Junketsu.
Mako was great - seems like everyone's getting a try at wearing Senketsu, maybe Gamagoori will try it on next? (God I hope I'm wrong... )
Also, Nui Finally gets impaled with extreme prejudice - I've been waiting for that for ages!
All in all, pretty good episode - bit harder to follow than the earlier ones were, the simplicity of the first few episodes made them a bit easier to watch and enjoy, I think...
So much blood this episode. Mako saves the day again. Even as a secondary character, she still gets gak done albeit in an extremely unorthodox fashion. The elite 4 continue there badassery with the queen of badass, Satsuki. Really great episode again.

He did help with the ending of the anime though, which I thought was very well done. I lament not desiring to read the novels (presuming I could find English translations) specifically because they are not finished, even the story is generally considered better overall then the anime (my hope with the manga is that it's true to the novels, but either way it'll be fun.)
Nah, she'll live. They'll find out she was "infected" or something by that living metal and it'll save her life though she'll be possessed by it for a bit and they'll have to save her.
Depends. Hype aside, it's an action/comedy with a more retro (I think that's the right word) animation style that refuses to take itself seriously (except when it decides to get serious. That doesn't last too long, but by gum it hits like a barrel of bricks when it happens.)
On the other hand, the whole "fanservice" angle can be a deterrent. So if the idea of barbie doll anatomy and fighting in skimpy outfits turns you off, it's probably not you're thing.
It's also not as simple as it seems. Trust us on that. Heck, I wrote an article using the show in relation to Nietzschean philosophy.
Caught up a bit with Kill La Kill. Nice to tee the awesome sillyness continue. Seems my luck of stopping watching an anime right before a good part has followed me with KLK lol
I find it interesting how so many people just seem to hate Nui. When I go check Reddit people are cursing like sailors when Nui does something and after this last episode, much rejoice was had
Always liked Nui since she first showed up.
Spoiler:
But like I said, I agree she deserved some kind of punishment. She has been doing whatever she wanted for far too long AND man, was that impalement cool!
Edit: but one character that's pissing me off is Nora from Noragami
Spoiler:
Cutting Hiyori's ties with Yato?! Seriously?! Nora better be slain in one of the last 2 eps!
Fun fact: I will never be able to take that villain seriously. Lord Rabo means Lord Ass in portuguese

Still nibbling through Gintama. I'm finding the Shinsengumi characters / faction more interesting and amusing than the Odd Jobs crew.
I always find myself enjoying their story arcs more than Gin's.
Hoitash wrote: So Attack on Titan is getting a dub. I'd say more, but I don't have a Funimation subscription, so that's all I know for now. Sorry 'bout that.
Normally I'm a big fan of dubs. I don't prefer either subs or dubs most of the time, I just prefer whatever I see the series as first. I've already seen attack on titan subbed, and have already put the Japanese voices to those characters. I also think they got some pretty good voice actors for the Japanese. I can actually hear the difference in the voices of the different characters. Usually it is just the female voice actors I do not like in Japanese, they all sound really high pitched, whiny, and exactly the same to my ears. I prefer the female English voice actors most of the time.
To summarize, it all varies from series to voice actors for me, and I like Attack on Titan subbed already.
Whelp. Now I'm gonna be searching for good KlK/Sailor Moon crossover fanfictions.
You know, it's odd. Sailor Moon has given birth to some of the weirdestgood crossover fanfictions I've ever read.
There's the one where Ami Mizuno reads the Qur'an to suicide bombers in hell, then there's the "Girl Who Loved" Harry Potter/Sailor Moon/Ranma 1/2 crossover fic...
I think the lack of rating restrictions placed upon the actual owners of the franchise to make it child-friendly allows for a rather more intense and, well, entertaining usage of the characters than you see in the official works.
Nanoha gives an epic 'Screw Destiny' as the reincarnation of the Princess who doesn't want to be the Princess, and just remain Nanoha.
Actually IMO Sailor Moon has an implicit Fridge Horror in it, especially the part wherein they remove the 'darkness' in Humanity's hearts. Thing is, we need both light and darkness to be Human. In effect, by removing that darkness, Neo Serenity has implicitly committed genocide by removing Humanity's desires and effectively killing our future
So, that episode 22 of KLK... First of all, HOLY feth, THE HYPE LEVEL! And this was ep 22!!
Spoiler:
Nui losing her arms was hilarious! that removed her smile for good, she's genuially pissed now
Ryuuko and Satsuki getting along, everyone getting along and eating together, beautiful "power of friendship" scenes all over the place (Satsuki being that happy?! Oh yes. It filled my heart with so much happiness)
When I thought it couldn't get any better, I get a Ryuuko embarassed like hell trying to say Sister that made me go "Aaaaawwww"
Then the double transformation made me hype again with a feeling of "feth yes! Let's do this!!"
AND THEN 2 STAR MAKO RETURNS!! And I lost my gak right there! I pretty much fist pumped and shouted "OOOHHH YEEEAAHH!!!". My hype was just too much by then

Agreed 100%

I'm glad we managed to get some lighthearted moments in before the Major Final Battles of Awesome. Helped a lot
Now Mako, time to kick some tuchus, and don't hold back this time!
Also, props to Iori; man needs more cred for all that behind the scenes work he does.

I gotta hand it to Iori, if it wasn't for him, I don't think they had any kind of a chance. Satsuki and the Elite 4 are awesome, but if it wasn't for his support and expertise I don't think any kind of resistance was possible.
And his 3-Star uniform looked AWESOME
Ah, and Satsuki bowing and asking for forgiveness... that character, she remains perfect in my eyes. If she dies at the final battle, she better die the hero she is.
That may have been the best episode in anime history. I don't have any words to describe the shear amount of fanboyness I feel right now. I'm actually visibly shaking.

A bit late, but this showed up today. It seems they are betting on that Dub, because the special edition is just WOW
Ah, that was some mighty fine KLK, I really enjoyed that one
Spoiler:
Nui's gone full psycho, Satsuki remains at full badass, and Mako just went stratospheric awesome - I admit to supressing a cheer when she pops "out of the closet"
It's distilled essense of Anime. It's pretty much everything that Anime is, and all the things that attract geeks like us to Anime are crystalized in here.
Fanservice, overblown attacks, flash steps, power ups, called-attacks, impossible hair, theme villains, katanas, quirky sidekicks, shipping, sparkles, peppy upbeat EPICOSITY OST without any actually memorable bits or leitmotifs, up to eleven...
All that good stuff. And so, if you're trying to get someone to start watching anime, have them watch KlK- they'll get the full experience without the full time investment.
Exalted x10! Oh sweet lord! This had me in stitches! This is on par with the terrible subtitles Little Kuriboh did with the YuGiOh Season Zero movie opening!
Hoitash wrote: I remember the old series back on the original Toonami. It was a decent show, although as I was a preteen at the time I may not be the best judge.
I've started watching it recently, trying to go through it in preparation for the new series coming out. It's definitely an aged show. It's not super amazing from what I remember, and it seems just ok from what I have watched so far, 8 episodes in
Those lyrics were hilarious And it's my favorite KLK music so it was even better
Did anyone else feel Log Horizon is back on the right track?
Spoiler:
Plot seems to be moving, the Villain in Glasses did one hilarious table flip and that ending "Domo" sounded like a declaration of war between the merchant and him
P.S: See if this helps you guys with the Spring Anime selection. It's a compilation of the Spring previews:
I have to confess, i never watched dragonball as a kid. It just wasn't an option since we only had 3 channels in our house. We did get digimon and pokemon though and they were the best shows around as far as I was concerned.
For 'Monster taming shows', I never really watched any of them- but recently Kaijudo's kinda gotten me. It's a western style show, less Anime influenced, but based on a TCG. And it has Grey DeLisle voicing one of the characters, so it's gotta be good.
That card game is literally a reskin of that old classic duel masters. Are they trying to get into the western market with that? Vanguard, Pokemon and Yugioh seem to have quite a grip on the kids that play those kinds of tgs. Admittedly, I would have said the same thing about Vanguard too, but that advertising scheme was great. Giving away free decks to anyone just to get people hooked was quite funny.
i hope the series does well for them. I enjoyed the duel masters show as a kid, but it got a crazy low rating. I wonder if this will be better.
See, Duel Masters (the anime) was a send-up of TCG shows- it made straight up fun of the genre- almost like a "the abridged series" as the original series, with self-references, genre savvyness, etc.
Kaijudo is more just "Let's take the monsters, and make them characters in a show!" sort of thing- the animation is a little stiff (low budget, I think) but it's got a deeper story and takes itself a lot more seriously. You know how different countries have their own 'signature' ways of making giant monster movies? America uses animation (stop motion or computer), Japan uses costumes, Denmark uses puppets... This is sort of America Does a TCG- it's based on the game, but the show itself isn't dealing with a TCG.
WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF I havn't finished the episode yet, but what the heck are all these characters doing here?!?! THEYR ALL HERE!!!!!
Yeah, that episode is an Easter Egg fest

How about after the ending song...
Spoiler:
This next fight is looking to be legendary, and (I do believe that model is the Exia Dark Matter) Meijin's gunpla is looking suitably evil as the boss battle of the tournament.

I'm guessing he's a (what is that, a Welsh flag?) British Isles politician. I'm guessing Welsh (Wales) because of the flag (I think it's a Welsh flag, though it could be Australian) and because I think there was a thing where Wales had a New Flag"contest and the Gurren Lagann flag option won.
