Weapons in Merc models say nothing really, mercs get to buy whatever weapons they can find/ afford.
Not only the weapons though. The symbol has colors like Nomad armor and the name Anaconda, is similar to the TAGs: Lizard, Iguana, Salamandra, Gecko, etc. Anacondas are also native to the Amazon. Corregidor is made up of many people originally from South America.
A member of the staff has said in the Spanish Forums that the price increase affects only the miniatures, not books, scenery or markers, and it'll be between 3 to 5%.
Wow.. really great stuff! Great to see that they are still trying to do new things, with the art book and collectors range.
Small price rise is OK, anyone who has owned these miniatures knows that they knock most of the stuff in the industry out of the ball park. Paying a bit more for such quality will be acceptable to most.
motyak wrote: How sharp have their previous rises been? Are they usually gentle, or will they leave me reaching for some ointment?
To continue that crude analogy, looking at your flag and the kind of prices you guys have for GW stuff, I don't think you will even feel it..
Hell to me it's worth it and 3-5% is nothing in all honesty. If people don't expect prices to rise ever then they are just not from this world because it's just a fact of inflation.
That's the beauty of a company that is trusted by their loyal customers. They can raise the prices (by a reasonable degree) and everybody has the faith in them to believe that it's an economically neccessary move and not an act of greed.
Caring for customers and showing passion for your business that goes beyond shareholder's interests is the way to get there. (Yes, I'm looking at you who must not be named...)
I think nobody likes to pay more for stuff, but if CB makes economically sound moves without putting off its customers it means both the company and the community will continue to exist, flourish and in the end provide us with more great hobby stuff. So price raise hurray!
It's hard to say to be honest mate. And I really don't want to slag them off because they are a quality product.
It's an overall aesthetic issue for me which is a very personal thing for each of us. I think the long awaited release might be taking the edge off too. I envisioned something more streamlined and less overmuscled I think. I was hoping for more delicate and fluid poses which would accentuate the canine-human hybrid idea. I was anticipating very tall, very aspirational humans with some dog like features.
I think it's classic over expectation on my part, like when you read a book and then they make the film and it just doesn't cut it for you. With my personal opinion out of the equation though they are great miniatures!

If I can respond, I think part of it might be a bit of you having mixed the Wulvers up with the Dogfaces.
Wulvers are basically humans but with slightly canine features. Dogfaces are McMurrough or the Cameronian Irregular, the much bigger bipedal wolfman motif.
I like them quite a lot. The 4 miniatures are quite different. Much better than the 4 Riot Grrls of the 4 Kaplan.
I personally enjoy more when a 4 figure box gives me 4 different figures than 4 clones.
This is a much better box than the ugly jumping ridiculous wulver with Mk12.

I see why it might seem like that but it's really not the reason. My hope was that the future Dogfaces and Wulvers would be similarly styled but with Dogfaces being 'more' of everything I described.
If anything I think these Wulvers are far too canine. I thought we were going to get 'ideal humans' with a little bit of dog coming through. Basically ripped humanplus' with slightly longer faces, slight claws and obvious agility. Fur would have been fine here and there but I don't think these forearm tufts look very natural. As I say though, this is very much a personal aesthetic choice and I can certainly fake it with Galwegians as a base with bits from these guys and some greenstuff.
...My opinion will no doubt change the more I look at them as it always does. They are starting to look a little better already I guess, especially with some leg swaps.
Idk why but the princess bride movie just came to mind from those three words. Now I feel old because chances are most of you probably don'tkknow that movie.
Wow what a difference a photo makes.. wasn't too sure about them at first, but with the better close-ups think those look fantastic. Think they've got the balance between human and animal just right, the females in particular are very subtly sculpted (although as Casey says there is always a lot of subjectivity for this kind of thing)
What a cracking paint job as well - really like the utilitarian, no-frills colours and the Scottish flag on the backpack is a great touch!
So.. another faction to collect *sigh*.. out of interest anyone know what the stats/efficacy of these are like off the top of their heads?
Pacific wrote: So.. another faction to collect *sigh*.. out of interest anyone know what the stats/efficacy of these are like off the top of their heads?
The bad part is that they have Frenzy, so they'll become Irregular Impetuous at some point. The good part is all the other stuff. I don't know some of the rules's names in English but, I'll try
- BS12 with good weapons (MK12, Heavy Shotgun or T2 Rifle - fairly heavy hitters without using SWP). - Linkable up to 4 (or 5 with William Wallace) - close combat skill 18 with "natural born warrior" (translation?), PHI14, APCCW and Berserk - 2 wounds and armour 3, yet 4-4 move and Climbing Plus - 37-38 points and no SWC.

So, pretty nasty in short-medium distances
Those are some nasty stats, I love it! I have hit the point as I cannot keep up with the painting that I hired a reliable service to paint some of my infinity armies for me. I have not done that in 10 years so that tells you something!
motyak wrote: I don't really get it, what is the Wulver without a ranged weapon for? Do we just say 'oh this one has a Mk12 as well' or something?
Yes. All fireteam boxes have one model with 'something', but not an actual main weapon, which is there to use as a proxy, since there's loads of options they don't have the ability to cover. For example, the Druze box has a model with just a DEP. There are no loadouts for them with just a DEP, but every loadout has a DEP. This gives you a 'blank' model to proxy as anything.
motyak wrote: I don't really get it, what is the Wulver without a ranged weapon for? Do we just say 'oh this one has a Mk12 as well' or something?
Yes. They have done that in some boxes, miniatures showing common equipment to add flexibility of options for the box, without including actual repetitions of weapons.
Haha! To be fair there's nothing wrong with changing your opinion based on evidence.
For what it's worth, I think that my main issue with them now is the arms. They are so overmuscled that they look like GW's Heroic Scale. It doesn't make sense to me, animals aren't overmuscled like bodybuilders because it's just aesthetic, it is a very restrictive build that'll likely get you killed rather than help you survive. To me it doesn't look remotely agile and powerful like a canine. As I've said though, it's different for everyone and I can't deny that they are quality sculpts even if I disagree with the design.
They are WAY less 'cheesecake' than he feared, and now he's working on a way to backtrack on his earlier comments without looking too silly.
Tough job there, but I'm confident he's up to the challenge!
I was playing Borderlands, dagnabbit!
I do like them as models, but I'm not a huge fan of the Caledonian Sectorial and the concept of the Wulver in general so it does not really matter one way or the other to me.

Well given that it is looking more and more like the Antipodes are a genetically modified native species which the Tohaa have modified as a kind of 'plague vector' to infect the human populace of Dawn, it is entirely possible that the "overmuscling" of the Wulver is an intentional thing.
Look at the Chaksa Auxiliars. That kind of musculature is implied in "Campaign: Paradiso" to be the result of genetic tampering by the Tohaa during the Exaltation process.
Interesting... I hadn't considered that and I managed I miss it when I was reading the book. Any chance you remember where that fluff is I'm the book so I can do some more reading?
Aesthetically my disagreement still stands but if the fluff supports it then I can't condemn them quite as much.
I was going to say that the overmusculation would be just a visual representation of the physical strengths of the Wulvers, so they wouldn't look like stray dogs. But after reading that Tohaa modifying Antipodes thing... I should probably shut up and read the books I already paid u_u

I think Kan was just rolling eyes at the thought of a model with the same pose as the Daktari ("ooops! I did what?") but slightly more animal looking
I think most will be glad for the style they have gone for. There is a lot of subtlety in that face sculpting in particular, hard to believe it is literally only a few mm in size.
Thanks Kan, I'll dig a little deeper and see what I can find. Do they directly reference Antipode tampering or is it just the logical conclusion based on overwhelming evidence?
I quite like the idea actually. I wasn't sure at first but it roots the dog hybrid idea firmly in sci-fi, further distancing it from Gothic Horror/Fantasy and without losing any of the outcome's flavour. Corvus definitely have a talent for complex elegance in their rules and more and more we are seeing it come through in the lore too.
I get the feeling we will be reading a lot more about the nefarious ways of the Tohaa in future material.. so far it has only been speculated, but I think no doubt there will be a lot more dirt on them to come. Who knows, as this is an ever-evolving timeline, they may become even more of a threat to the human sphere than the Combined Army?

Infinity Week 2013 -- Starts Monday!
by TheBeastsOfWar
Great Prices on Infinity Range: http://bit.ly/Infinity-Range
It doesn't seem like it's been long since we brought you the last Infinity week but now it's time to prepare yourself for INFINITY WEEK 2013!
That's right, another fun packed week of Infinity goodness kicks off on Monday July 1st 2013 here on Beasts of War. To whet your appetite watch the teaser above. What are you looking forwards to seeing?
This should be good for some news and previews, right?
First time I bought a Haqqislam pack and an ALEPH pack. Second time I bought the Bakunin sectorial pack. A third time might mean Tohaa. And I still haven't got my tax returns. Damn CB! *shakes fist*
At least I hope Alpharius is right and this means videos and info on the following months stuff.
I, for reasons that are still mysterious to me, didn't take up the last round of offers so I'm glad there will be another chance, I hope... Or atleast I hope they do the custom armies for a little extra again, I have my eye on an aleph + Nomad force
Is this indicative of an upcoming release? I 'm finding myself drawn to the Morats, so I could totally go for some more Zerats and the heavy armor guys.
Do they normally just do starter bundles, or do they do expansion bundles as well? Because in no way am I looking at starting a new army, but if they had a good deal for a bundle of CHA models or something...
motyak wrote: Do they normally just do starter bundles, or do they do expansion bundles as well? Because in no way am I looking at starting a new army, but if they had a good deal for a bundle of CHA models or something...
They do not really do "expansion bundles" but they are usually things like a starter box, a TAG or similar large boxed set, and a few blisters.
Barzam: The only release that it is indicative of, so far, is the long awaited Infinity art book.

That sounds alright, I can probably sell the models that I don't want on to a friend and keep the ones that I need.

I think this was the deal they did last time, and other similar ones for the other factions. Pretty good starting point I think for new players (or to get another faction)
I've put in Spoilers so not to disappoint anyone that thinks a new deal has come along already:
Are they going to sort out the issues I seem to remember last time the did a limited mini with a book in terms of making sure the books actually stay with the minis
(I seem to remember problems with stores splitting them etc)
OrlandotheTechnicoloured wrote: Are they going to sort out the issues I seem to remember last time the did a limited mini with a book in terms of making sure the books actually stay with the minis

or is it order direct of miss out on the mini
When they released Campaign: Paradiso they didn't offer the mini for free to the stores, I think it was up to the stores wether to charge for them or not to the customers. I have no idea how they are doing it this time.
OMG I'm in love with Asuka! lol or lust. Must have! I knew Angel added squigly things to throw us off! Also the Hacker is very convertible. If you don't want a hacker just add a pistol to his hand!
Those Hellcats are damn sexy too! Nomad nation has been calling me for while now.
I think the Barid is awesome too. His armor is very cool.
Wulvers are cool. The only thing I don't like is hairy arms I guess.
Edit: How could I forget the Kumotail. Wow! all are very cool.
mmmhhh...a cheap month for me, just one box. The releases are cool but I´m a bit disapointed by the support pack. Don´t like the look of the servants a lot. The other Chaksas where awesome but these are a bit...don´t know...ugly? The Kumotail is nice and fits in the range. I like Tohaa, they are very nice. Rest of the releases are great stuff like everytime CB does a real great job....
Don´t you think the Beast of War week will spoil about the next book? As far as I know the next Infinity book should be made real faster than Paradiso. And I start thinking about a book about Svarlaheim (or whatever the ice planet was called). Lots of snow there. Would love to have a Nisse sectorial with a Jotum...

I have to agree on the chaksas, the aux versions are so much nicer than these, they just seem a little unfinished or rushed somehow, it's difficult to explain.
But nice releases, those wulvers have a grown on me a lot. I'm starting to carry them around HODOR HODOR HODOR.

To be fair, these Chaksa are "stunted" by either a regressive gene or something of that nature during the Exaltation process. As a result they are seemingly not as intelligent and instead of being given free reign to behave on their own they are 'adopted' by the Tohaa government and put to work as what amount to biological remotes/helper bots for the Kumotail Bioengineers.
I think they tried to show that in model form, and like some concepts it is something you either 'get' right away from looking at it or it ends up making you think there is something off but cannot quite put your fingers on it.

They have said that the next book is looking at the same timeframe as Paradiso/Human Sphere which is years away.
There is definitely going to be some spoiling however of the Infinity art book, as that art of the Morat on a snow world is purportedly one of the art prints which come with the book.
i'm still not feeling the Tohaa minis...
i like the fluff and art, but not the sculpts...
of all the aliens in Infinity, it's only the Morats that get me excited to paint...
the two new bikes will be on the shopping list, for sure...
Absolutionis wrote: I'm curious if a US retailer like TheWarstore will have this preorder bundle available.
They had it for Paradiso+Marlene, right?
They did have a preorder bundle but there was a bit of confusion how it worked originally.
What happened with Paradiso and Marlene was a miscommunication making it seem like every preorder would get a Go-Go marlene, rather than how it ended up being which was retailers had the option of buying the book AND then for the books they ordered, they could order models as well. It ended up being the retailers had to pay for the model, which meant the customers as well had to pay.
I am hoping that Corvus Belli learned from that cluster and has given the retailers more information this time around.
Ah Yu-Jing, the faction with the best cheesecake, I love you so much. Never change.
I'm glad I picked you over Pan-O
edit: except looking at the models there is very little, yet they have the most cheescake-y image on the army builder. Interesting. I still reckon that's an amazing biker model.
I'm not exactly up on my Infinity fluff. How exactly have the Tohaa factored into Infinity's universe? Are they supposed to be uplifting primitive species and fauna into fodder shocktroops or something? And what's the deal with their combat armor? Are they supposed to be techno-organic or at least partially organic?
Barzam wrote: I'm not exactly up on my Infinity fluff. How exactly have the Tohaa factored into Infinity's universe? Are they supposed to be uplifting primitive species and fauna into fodder shocktroops or something?
Pretty much. There is hints and speculative bits throughout the first Infinity rulebook about it and of course Paradiso goes into it in details.
And what's the deal with their combat armor? Are they supposed to be techno-organic or at least partially organic?
Which combat armor are you referring to?
The units like the Gao-Rael, Gao-Tarsos, Sakiel, and Ectros are using "Symbiotic Armor" which is a living organism that augments the wearer but with a vulnerability to fire.
Units like the Makaul, Kamael, and Clipsos along with the Chaksa are just wearing armor plates.
Oh and the Dakka Painting Competition deadline is coming up very shortly! I hope you're all going to be finishing up your entries and sending them in this weekend!

So far, all we know is that it is a female authorized bounty hunter(called it!) that was seen in concept art form within a newspaper article about Corvus Belli a few weeks ago.
Here is the silhouette that we have, along with her name which is "Miranda Ashcroft":
Wonderful stuff.. now all that remains is to see which retailers are taking part in this pre-order scheme (I know Wayland Games did here in the UK with the last one)
'Infinity Week' starting on Beasts of War this week, should be interesting. Apparently they have a lot of stuff planned for it.
I hear they're going to be introducing the art book, looking through faction by faction at the art that didn't make the cut... concepts, design sketches etc..
Vindicare101 wrote: I hear they're going to be introducing the art book, looking through faction by faction at the art that didn't make the cut... concepts, design sketches etc..
Bostria has stated in the Spanish forum that the books contain designs of units still not available (I think he says this in the first video too) and also says that Ms Ashcroft is as seen in the pics, despite the concept showing a diversity of weapons, the mini only includes the CC one.
They're going to be showing us art that didn't make the cut?!?
I hope some clever soul will figure out a way of presenting these things later on, as there's bound to be more than a few that we'll wish DID make the cut!
Kanluwen wrote: Miranda is an excellently designed and reasonably well-executed figure let down slightly by odd posing that I mostly dislike because I disagree with the design concept.
The arm looks.. strange, like it is out of jelly. They should've stick to the artwork, which I would prefer pretty often (even though the Infinity figures are most often great!). But hey, no bare middriff
She looks nice I think.. dynamic poses are always going to be a little bit hit or miss, but I'm glad that CB tries them (most of the time). I've already seen one photoshopping version of her pole dancing, took all of 3-4 hours for someone to come up with that

I'm going to change my wallpaper each day of the week with this (I'm so sad haha! )
Yes, but it's nice to have that high resolution if you have a big monitor.
Some interesting tit-bits in the BoW coverage so far....(Which by the way is really worth watching, especially the 2nd video with Carlos talking about the different design elements that have gone into the miniatures, and the philosophy behind them and the development of technology. )
- BoW is going to have an exclusive miniature reveal this coming Saturday..
- The Morats home world is an ice planet (the one pictured on the cover), and the one character is indeed the Oznat (the little beasties are Hungries - not Nids as I originally thought ) - they chose that picture in the end apparently because they liked the composition and style of it (must have been a hard choice to make!)
- the artwork they are showing this week is not actually going to be in the book.
Book is now up for pre-order on Wayland Games, given pride of place on their front page just as it should be!
Barzam wrote: Is the figure included with The Warstore's preorder?

In this book you will find out how the concept design process of some of your favorite miniatures was developed. My assumption is that it will come with the miniature, but it can't hurt to ask Neal I suppose.
Another pic of Miranda Ashcroft.. whose background sounds rather a lot like the story of Lara Croft from what Carlos was talking about in the video.. !
I wish the pre-order for the book followed the video game pattern of paying 10% or so now, then the final when it is released...

The simple problem is that with many of their "dynamic poses", it comes down to the sculptor having envisioned the model doing something which involves another model.
It is not hard to envision Lara...I mean Miranda in the midst of a duel with Senor Massacre over a bounty that both have sought.
Without the second model though, the dynamic vision is lost.
I liked the revelation that the book cover image features an Oznat, and she looks damn cool too... kinda good to know that all of my female morat figures wont be Zerats
I completely agree. Everything about her is great but the model is just comes across like cold tea. Still, conversion potential, very nice conversion potential.
In other news! The Dakka Painting Challenge: Two Tickets to Paradiso, has moved into the voting stage!
Come along and get your votes in!
What's old Marlene going for these days anyway? I assume she is extremely common despite the controversy at the time. And what of the other limited editions?
Well worth watching the videos on Beasts of War .. amazing how much thought goes into the design process..
A couple of nuggets of info which I found interesting..
- Ariadna are one of the best selling factions. Carlos thought it was because people who were not so into the 'sci-fi' elements of Infinity could find more to relate to (in terms of current military and cultural traditions) with them. Also, their background of being the underdog in the game .
- Uxia McNeil (which is pronounced 'Ooshia' by the way ) is a favourite of the design team, already 2 miniatures released for her including a 3rd one on the way?
- Dog soldiers (+ McCurrough) will feature in the artbook.
Also.. a reminder that apparently the new Art book is going to be officially launched at Gencon this year.

I think the 3rd miniature is actually a resculpt of the first one. That mini hasn't aged well at all.

Unless somebody's heard otherwise I've got the feeling that rather than army deals the 'bonus' to this Infinity week is the celebration and pre-order bonus of an art book that the (Infinity) community has been clamoring for a while... :(
It's still cool. I'd love to see some army deals too, though! ;P

I'm getting that same feeling Scrub. Let's just say that unless they pull something really special later on, this is going to be a big disappointment.

Bear in mind that the "army deals" always tend to break their distribution network and restocks for months afterwards.
They may not be doing them this year simply to avoid such a thing happening again.
Female intruder sniper coming by the end of the year.
Iguana and Gekos share design, both will be in the artbook.
Those are two excellent pieces of news!
I particularly cannot wait to see the Iguana and Gecko concepts...
Just please Corvus Belli. Heed my statement on this...
Do not make the "female Intruder Sniper" look like the female Wildcat with Heavy Rocket Launcher or the female Hellcat with Assault Rifle.
Make her look badass, but do not go over the top with silliness.
Female intruder sniper coming by the end of the year.
Iguana and Gekos share design, both will be in the artbook.
You have forgotten " Iguana release this year and Gekos at some point over the next year".
Which is cool because means we can take for granted the release of another pair of TAGs this year. We know the Anaconda will be available as a general release at the end of the year, probably November like happened last year with Scarface. We also know July is a Bootleg month. Which leaves us with August, September and October. I bet the Iguana will be released in September.

Gekos by the end of next year would be great. 2015 we be my Nomad T.A.G. rush year, switching between 4 Gekos or 2 Gekos and a Iguana. It will be a change in style from my Lizard sitting back and dropping targeted grenades on the enemy from the other side of the field.
Some other interesting titbits from the Nomad video..
- I liked the bit about all of the forces being designed (in concept and execution) by different people, to prevent the same styles being used for all of the forces.
- Carlos said about there used to being so many antennae on the miniatures, a lot less these days. They will either be part of the head or else bigger and with a cleaner fit in the miniature (so less gluing of fingers together trying to attach them!) Hope they don't get rid of the Appleseed-style Pan O Antennae though..
The Riot grrl miniatures have really grown on me as well after watching that vid, the design art for them is bloody awesome..
And I would love to get that Angel Giraldez-painted Penthesilia - if the winner of the tournament was so inclined I'm sure that would go for big money on ebay..
Absolutely love the art style.. saw loads of these in the folder that the CB guys were carting around at tabletop nation last year, will be interesting to see which ones make it into the art book!
In the previous videos we have seen artwork that we have seen before and was rejected as not too good for the artbook, the artwork on the mercs video is artwork that will be in the book.
I think with the concept style art (the one showing front and rear, used by the sculptor) a lot of it is probably going to be pretty subjective, in that the art is all pretty good and really will just come down to whether you like the style of one trooper over another. I'm quite looking forward to seeing what is in there in terms of paintings, digital art and the like (like the stuff in Paradiso).
From the Haqq video Carlos made it sound like the Sekban box hadn't been made yet, so perhaps it might be some time?
On a side note, isn't it sad that they have to hold their hands up and say "please be clear.. this is fiction" .. Perhaps they have to in case some half-wit misunderstands and takes offence..
According to the official forums, there will be four blisters discontinued as of October 1st:
The two Wulvers, and the two Hellcats.
Spoiler:
Not a really big deal, in a sense. They're old models being replaced by newer ones. The hellcats really show their age, and the leaping Wulver is iconically goofy. The sane Wulver is somewhat of a pity, in a way; it's not a bad model.
PsychoticStorm wrote: In the previous videos we have seen artwork that we have seen before and was rejected as not too good for the artbook, the artwork on the mercs video is artwork that will be in the book.
Nope, if I understood Bostria correctly in the video, only the Anaconda will be in the book.

That's how it sounded to me. Love to see it happen though, the Sekban design is awesome.

I don't get why they'd take offense at 'they decided to become peaceful and learned'. He didn't say anything bad about modern day islam.
If you’ve enjoyed Infinity week on BoW (and why wouldn’t you have? It’s been awesome!) then you’ll be pleased to know that both Carlos Llauger and Gutier Lusquiños from Corvus Belli will be doing a Live Text Chat in the Beasts of War chat rooms today at 5pm UK (BST) time!
Hmm yes, just got home from work so I guess I've missed it. If anyone who took part would be so kind as to post here any interesting comments!
I don't get why they'd take offense at 'they decided to become peaceful and learned'. He didn't say anything bad about modern day islam.
At the risk of this becoming off-topic, I doubt if anyone who decides that it 'isn't appropriate', and then acts on that assumption, bothers to read the content properly and discover that it is a positive interpretation. Perhaps is even capable of reading and understanding the content properly, if the fatwah on Salman Rushdie (and various others) is anything to go by.
There was also the comments of a certain attention-craving blogger who decided that Haqqislam was an 'offence to Muslims' several years ago.
No waepons packs or all armament options in the blisters anytime soon it seems. For extra weapons you need to buy the SpecOp blisters or tournament packs. Yeah, sure. *Not happy*
Saphos wrote: No waepons packs or all armament options in the blisters anytime soon it seems. For extra weapons you need to buy the SpecOp blisters or tournament packs. Yeah, sure. *Not happy*
We know for years, that CB would not be making waepons pack for open market. You should be happy, before you could only get them at tournament if the TO asked CB and they sent the TO some. So the went form never going to make them, to if you really want them here they are.
So they went from Screw you to please bend over and be happy with it? Yeah, I sure am happy. ;-) For the record, the weapon sprue does not include an ordinary combirifle, so actually I still don´t get exactly what I require. The Multirifle with its barrel cut down looks good enough though so that I am indeed satisfied. I still love their minis and love to play the game but for me this is something severely lacking in the product. As if it is that problematic to include the friggin loose combirifle/whatever when they cast things like tiny extra hands and other tidbits. Well, I voiced my opinion and will not buy the Crocmen hacker as a result of this situation anytime soon. Such is life I guess. ^^
I think the problem is that Infinity miniatures aren't multipose plastics - changing weapons on them is a conversion job not to be taken lightly for the most part, and I don't think there are many miniatures that you could make a convincing and easy weapon swap with.
Yes they can give us plastic, multi-pose and multi-weapons all the time, but then you will upset the vast majority of the fanbase who then lose the 'thing' that differs CB from so many of the other miniatures on the market; the striking poses and excellent level of detail.
Just out of interest Saphos, why are you so keen on the extra weapons, is it for wysiwyg or for a conversion?
As a more general question, do the spec ops packs just come with extra weapons or are they attached to extra arms? I'm interested in converting some alt minis and want infinity weapons to help tie them in.

Just the weapons, and you might be able to get just the weapon pack if ask the guy that parts the boxes to sell (sorry forgot his name, he has a thread the the Infinity sub-forum).
The weapons don´t look worse then the parts you usually have in the minis, Storm. I sincerely doubt that adding a combirifle or the like would pose such problems. And I´d even pay 50 Cent more or so to have that option without a blink.
I am fine with the material and the way they do options like HMGs. I just want my models properly equipped in the first place.
Smiler, I like my guys to be equipped with the stuff they have. Just aesthetics. :-) But that half the deal for me. Just feels wrong when they just run around with a pistol.
To do a weapon swap on the SpecOp itself you need to cut around which wasn´t too bad in the case of the PanO one. http://www.flickr.com/photos/cplhicks/9080643114/ As my second SpecOp got the HMG which looks a fair bit nicer imho then the orginal HMG Fusilier so I got lucky with PanO so far.
But the hassle will start again when I start Aleph. Luckily, I´ll need to get the MO and rest of Neoterra first.
Anyways, it was cool the the guys chatted with us on BoW. And the artbook looks mighty nice. They said something about NeoTerra gets some love next year. Their starter perhaps? Looking forward to that for sure.
smiler wrote: As a more general question, do the spec ops packs just come with extra weapons or are they attached to extra arms? I'm interested in converting some alt minis and want infinity weapons to help tie them in.
They come with just the weapons with no body parts attached.
They're not bad for just mounting on models' backs, but it'd be tremendously difficult to attach them to arms without heavy metal cutting and sculpting.
I have the Boss-pose Hafza with a Spitfire mounted on his back mostly because I didn't like the Fonzie-posed "Eyyyy!" Hafza with Spitfire.
Barzam wrote: I picked up a Spec Ops last weekend. The weapons are just on a spare sprue.
EDIT- and to be honest, I'd love multipart, multipose plastics for Infinity.
The closest we have so far are the 4-man boxed sets of a single unit type. They usually contain 2 different sculpts of body+legs, 4 different heads, and 4 different sets of arms. I rather like it this way for 'grunt' models.
Honestly we get complains on how "blunt" and "uninfinity" the 4 model boxes models are, imagine that in plastic.
Seriously plastic at present is not for Infinity, it does not fit the companies commitment for internal manufacturing and quality control, it does not fit the volume of sales, it does not fit the models complexity, it does not fit the art direction, it does not fit the details level.
finaly the panoc vid' is up :p
... well nothing to come ....
I love metal model its the main reason i play infinity,
but i clearly miss the weapon sprue (as you can see in my gallery i love converting infinity minis)
i'm sure they could produce metal mini with two arms by blister to allow multiple weapons loadout and bits for crazy converter like me

They already have that with some models. The Myrmidon Captain has two arms you must choose between, and I think one of the Shaolin Monks is similar. There may be others.

I agree.
Maybe, maybe I could go for a plastic set for TAGs and remotes, but then those might not make back their design costs.
The problem with multipart plastics is they lose a little "soul" from a sculpt because the priority becomes making them assemble-able. For GW miniatures it's not such a big loss because they've never been posed very naturally (given the proportions and weapon sizes, how could you?) and the weapons never look like they have weight. Infinity models (apart from the multi-part boxes) sculpted as a complete figure with natural posing and weight. They twist and contort in ways that just aren't possible from a multi-part plastic kit. I'm happy to see CB stay as is.
PsychoticStorm wrote: the weapons sprews are expensive, difficult to cast, tear the moulds and would be really low movers.
I would not label a sound decision with the words you said.
I disagree with this, mostly because the "weapon sprues" as we have them now are not actual "weapon sprues".
They are a selection of loose weapons tossed into the Spec Ops blisters. Some are useful and some are not.
I have only got the Nomad and ALEPH Spac Ops, but both of them had a single cast weapon sprues. I had the clip the weapons off it, what ones are loose.

"Weapon sprues" implies that they have at least one of each kind of weapon available.
The Spec Ops contain a haphazard assortment of weapons, but nowhere near 'one of each' weapon.

Not really I buy weapon sprues mostly for unit based games. So most of the are 1 weapon type. Weapon spures implies are set of weapons (matching or mix and match). Plus Infinity has like 50 waepons (not counting combi+something weapons), that be one hell of a sprues.
The transcript, thanks to a different forum I frequent:
interruptor: It seems the Antipodes were in Dawn planet before the arrival of Tohaa, but those were intelligent to not deal with them
bostria: I can tell that by the end of the year Ariadna will have some additions that will be helpful for them regarding objectives
bostria: we have been approached by different videogame companies, but it seems that making an Infinity video game requires something more than enthusiasm, is a complex task that requires serious financing investment. Green light for an Infinity videogame requires many factors to happen.
interruptor: We'll keep with the Hindu and Vedic references in ALEPH, but not necessarily deeping too much in that, maybe some hero, but not necessarily a Recreation (As Achilles is for example)
bostria: two sectorials armies per faction is our objective for the books that expands the factions, yes.
bostria: By now we will stick to the 4 figure box for those units that can make fireteams and Warbands. we are not completely sure if people would buy a 4 figure box of Hellcats because, as you may know, is unlikely to see someone using 4 hellcats in the same battle.
interruptor: Boxed set are planned mainly for those troops who can link or work together (as Support Packs), but it's more difficult to release for single action models as infiltrators...
interruptor: Yes, the Anaconda is Nomad in origin, but being a Mercenary this doesn't mean it can be enlisted by Nomad Sectorials...
interruptor: You'll find a brief intro to each faction and the main lines of design of all of them. Plus a sample text of background of the unit you are seeing, but if you have the books, those info it's not new (except of those models which are not in the previous books, of course)
bostria: the artbook goes like this for every faction:
Page 1 New Cover for the faction
Page 2 Speed painting and a brief faction text
Page 3 concept artwork process
Page 4 Pin up of final art of the design (bostria: when I mean pin up I mean full figure full color no background made by Chuck Pires, final artwork, not just concept design.)
... That is repeated 4 more times and the last concept design process has 3 pages instead of 1.
bostria: the future of the Combined Army is intentionally a mystery. Things will happen and reinforcements will come. But we prefer not to reveal anything because it has to be something dramatically BIG
interruptor: The most of the 1st wave of Bootleg have display bases, but that's not compulsory on this range
interruptor: Seeds of what will happen with CA are placed in Campaign Paradiso
bostria: (Q: Since we have the bootleg line now that I am really pleased to hear its existence, can we expect a PanO remote presence rig? maybe even Tony and her crew?) that is a good idea and fit in the Bootleg line of miniatures that respect the fluff but are not necessary for playing.
interruptor: (Q: OSS sectorial soon?) At the moment, we're more focused on the Assault Subsection, and the OSS will be closer to the release of the next expansion, so not soon, sorry.
interruptor: You'll see more specific Spec-Ops, but the expansion of these kind of model will depend on the feedback from the player community
bostria: You will all have more spec-ops don't worry
interruptor: (Q: does the perceived difficulty of Tohaa minis turn painters off?) Tohaa models are highly detailed, but the painter is not forced to paint everything is on the model. We want to release high quality model, that cannot affect the sales, on the contrary!
bostria: I love the objectification thread
interruptor: (Q: new tag for aleph?) Not by the moment for the Steel Phalanx, but for upcoming ALEPH Sectorials I'm sure you'll see more TAGmania
bostria: (Q: unreleased models in artbook?) yes, the Iguana, the Seraph, the Geckos... I guess that there are more... let me check...
interruptor: We want a more brutish look for the Morats, getting them bulkier and menaceful
bostria: this year we will support the NOVA Open, The Feasts of Baldes Event, One Valhalla weekend from BlueTablePainting... the Vigo tournament... and there is something HUGE coming for TableTop Nation in October
bostria: design process... at the beginning of INFINITY the sculptors had more freedom and final word when it comes to design, but with the years we've learned to make better working method in order to have more control over the miniatures for having better results. Right now the miniatures are more similar to the designs than ever
interruptor: Tunguska is The Money for Nomads, so high-tech style would be a characteristic of its Sectorial
interruptor: Bostria is slaved in the studio. I'm seating on a coffee shop with my netbook enjoying the nice summer sun (bostria: HODOR HODOR? HODOR!)
bostria:
Step Zero- Gutier fluff idea
First Step Troop profile from Gutier and previously tested and approved
second Step- concept design
Third Step- Gutier writes down the final fluff
Fourth step- Sculpt
interruptor: Varuna was conceived as the Quick Reaction Force, but we're still testing it, so I cannot assure you the final result
bostria: (Q: do they plan to take over GW) Well some big companies doesn't need our help for keep on doing what they know to do best.
bostria: 80% of our sculpt are traditionally mad by hand, by Pedro Fernandez, Jose Luis Roig and Carlos Torres, and also Fernando Liste back in the days.
bostria: by now we have 2 3D sculptors Fausto and Javier Ureña , they are both relatively new to CB and have made the most recent TAGs
bostria: about software used by 3dsculptors mostly "ZBRUSH" About software used by artists "Photoshop" and "Painter"
interruptor: The most of the troops start as an Army List need (This army needs a Medium Infantry with MSVL2, for example) from that point the process is what Bostria pointed. But in the origin is the game and army balance, awesomeness comes later
interruptor: We never have artistic limitations, only production ones, that's one of the reasons we have not large vehicles for example. But our sculptors always have fulfill the expectations, maybe now with 3D have more freedom in the production area, but on the artistic area we still be the same crazy guys as always
bostria: (Q: crazy fanbase?) @valthonis I think we are ALL a bit crazy. the thing is.... everybody want this to happen, we are just delivering something that people wants. This enthusiasm from people from Greece, from the USA, from UK, from Spain... is what makes things happen.
interruptor: Well, I have a History of Art university degree, so you can imagine it is natural to me to look after historical references. It is not always easy, but always interesting to me
bostria: Tiger Soldiers are ESSENTIAL, they will get their moment, and that will require 100% of our attention, time, efforts and awesomesauce
bostria: (Q: What's Jacques Bruant like?) Jean Reno
bostria: (Q: Bostria "likes working on minis' behinds") well... my mainly inspiration source for backviews was the movie "Ace ventura" where you can watch Jim Carrey talking with his butt... that was so inspiring....
bostria: the whole project of the Comic is being delivered by a French company full of Infinity enthusiast with great contact in the French comic scene. we trust them very much.
interruptor: At this moment I'm just reading 2 manga series: Billy Bat and Master Keaton both from Urasawa. Not sci-fi but both interesting seinen manga
bostria: the evolution of the Infinity universe depends directly form the imagination of our friend Gutier Interruptor here, he is the main head. And he writes the books, any writer who would like to expand the universe has to OBEY him in a slave-mode level.
bostria: No, Fausto is just here in a friendly visit.... working for us.
interruptor: Infinity novels must be a license, we are not in the publishing business, that's a different area we are not able to manage...
bostria: Khawarijs, will make fireteams with Tarik Mansuri, will have access to new weapons and they will be the less powerful unit compared to the rest of the caliphate super-bio-engineered soldiers
bostria: (Q: how powerful are the Caliphate's bioengineered troops? Ajax/Achilles level?) Ajax is a slowed gorilla compared to the excellence of the Mukhtar and Numair units
bostria: (Q: weapon packs?) No, by now, the way to get extra pieces is through tournament pack, and spec ops blisters.
bostria: Kamau fireteam is awesome, and fusiliers will be available too
bostria: now its time for the Yu Jing HIs to have their own sectorial army. the Invincible army.
interruptor: For the Tohaa, we're investigating the possibilities of the pheromonic technology, and we also have the Chaksa Sectorial, too.
interruptor: (Q: Reasons for current balance of inspiration/creating new stuff?) It is a delicate balance between personal appeals and company needs, after all we have the responsibility of support the salaries of all of us (we have families) but finally personal appeals win more than the company, that's the reason you still have money in your pockets!
bostria: Neoterra will have reinforcements next year
bostria: there were testing of the earth sectorial but we decided to delay that until it has more "meaning" to the actual Infinity universe.
interruptor: (Q: can Nomads traverse wormholes w/o circulars?) I'm afraid not, Nomads depends on the Circulars to travel. By that reason they always pay on time the O-12 taxes
bostria: never heard of an Antipode army, so I guess that is not going to happen.
bostria: Gorgos will appear in the artbook
interruptor: We are researching more Antipode troop combinations but the possibility of an official Antipode Faction is a hard one, sorry for that.
interruptor: Thanks to you all for your care and support, you guys rocks!
bostria: the future of the Combined Army is intentionally a mystery. Things will happen and reinforcements will come. But we prefer not to reveal anything because it has to be something dramatically BIG

Guess they aren't worried by Chapterhouse studios then
bostria: this year we will support the NOVA Open, The Feasts of Baldes Event, One Valhalla weekend from BlueTablePainting... the Vigo tournament... and there is something HUGE coming for TableTop Nation in October

I'm sure anyone who has ever played the game knows this... it's wonderfully balanced, you can tell so much thought has been put into it.
bostria: Tiger Soldiers are ESSENTIAL, they will get their moment, and that will require 100% of our attention, time, efforts and awesomesauce
Great to hear that the Tiger Soldiers are getting new miniatures!

Interesting that they don't rule out a novel, and think there is nothing wrong at all with them licensing out a book (although not sure what sci-fi writer I would recommend!)
And I'm glad the Manga influences are still coming through; there is just so much material there (and a lot of it will be 'fresh' to western fans in terms of concept and stories etc.)
bostria: Khawarijs, will make fireteams with Tarik Mansuri, will have access to new weapons and they will be the less powerful unit compared to the rest of the caliphate super-bio-engineered soldiers

Going from this as well as the Haqq video I'm really excited by what they can come up with regarding the bio-engineered soldiers.
bostria: (Q: weapon packs?) No, by now, the way to get extra pieces is through tournament pack, and spec ops blisters.
And there is the answer for the above discussion..
interruptor: For the Tohaa, we're investigating the possibilities of the pheromonic technology, and we also have the Chaksa Sectorial, too.
pheromones? Something to do with them leading other life-forms? I wonder what to make of that..
bostria: there were testing of the earth sectorial but we decided to delay that until it has more "meaning" to the actual Infinity universe.
So I'm guessing the O-12 will come, but perhaps not right away..
Some very interesting stuff there in any case! Can't wait to see some of these display pieces now..
Just wanted to say from a retailers point of view how massive a difference it makes to have the manufacturer of a product engage with its customer base and retailers etc. The goodwill it generates is priceless.
That is one of the causes of Infinity growing so well the past few years. The good rules and models, and the previous Beast of War Infinity Week and special deals also helped a lot.
Pacific, I posed the weaponspack question in the transcript. ^^ Good to have it, I missed quite some questions being late to the chat.
Sounds excellent all in all. The Geckos might be something to get a small Nomad army for so I am curious how they look like. Maybe I´ll get just the models. Looks like I like terminatoresque models far too much. :-D

I was talking to the owner of my FLGS about this today. I asked if he was getting the new art book so I could pre order it, and he didn't know about it. He said he'd talk to them, and 'they seem to love him'. I said a lot of people say that, and he said they're honestly the best manufacturers in the business to deal with.
PsychoticStorm wrote: the weapons sprews are expensive, difficult to cast, tear the moulds and would be really low movers.
The only part of that I don't have strong doubts about is the "low movers" part. There are lots of weapons sprues out from various manufacturers and I haven't heard any complaints about how they are more expensive, harder to cast, or wear out any faster (and I do pay attention to that sort of thing).
They are almost certainly going to be low numbers sellers for Infinity though.

The 0-12 podcast talked about them a few episodes back. They are meant for just having minis for painters and have no actual function for game. Just nice vignette.
God-damnit, and I already used the 'dat ass' meme on this page of the thread!
Can someone please tell me why these aren't usable in games, other than some of those TAG pilots pilots potentially catching a cold through lack of clothing?
They're probably wearing some futuristic hose that's fire retardant and see thru. They're meant to be for the artists to go wild with without having to stay within the mechanics of the game. I'm sure there is potential for playability/rules later down the road.

Already answered this but they said because they wanted to create some pieces that are more towards just painting. These are set more towards painters like myself then for playing with.

They can be used in game. They said that they would be.
The only reason not to use them in game is that they are going to be slightly hard to convert if you want to.
Well you can use some of them in game as the TAG pilots they are supposed to be, some as count as, for example civilians.
On the other bootleg lines they will either be alternative versions of existing troops (like battle damaged troopers they said Joan that would be fantastic) or things you could use as civilians like the aforementioned PanO lawyer, the old man of the mountain ectr.
Overall is a range that is intended for painters bringing something extra and unusual to the range, gaming purpose is secondary.
Yeah, I thought that was fairly obvious - but I guess not!
I wonder if there's a way to modify the actual T.A.G. to make her fit?
Not really Alpharius, there is no feasible way to do it at the moment
The pilot compartment is in the 'body' and the pilot is laying down stretched through the Maghariba apparently.
Missed opportunity for a diorama(I thought this was the diorama/collector's range, not the pinup range...) with a half shell of a Maghariba body and the interior set up in such a way so that you can see that she has climbed in and is preparing to operate it.
Yeah, I thought that was fairly obvious - but I guess not!

They mentioned that in the video. It'd obviously take a ton of conversion work.
Scarface will probably be similar with his broken TAG. Lizard will likely be similar with her TAG's head.
From the way they explained it, the Stocking-O-Yoroi pilot will probably be more of an easy replacement into the TAG as a pilot.
Yeah, I thought that was fairly obvious - but I guess not!
In the near future where humour is surgically removed as soon as you are given your government issue thong and stockings.
The necessary tools to use TAG apparently
More on topic, I want the Mag an the O-Yorio one, and whichever Caledonian model that they end up bringing out, but apart from that I'll leave the rest so that I save some money. And the Pan-O one doesn't really appeal to me. A bit too skimpy I think, or too obviously skimpy at least
The PanO one has more of a race queen feel to it than a military one. Depending on her pose though, I think with just a tiny bit of modding, the Tech-Coolie can be given a more believable outfit.

I can only hope that Corvus Belli is unaware of what the term 'coolie' has as a historical basis.
Spoiler:
Historically, a coolie (variously spelled cooli, cooly, kuli, quli, koelie etc.) was an Asian slave or unskilled manual labourer, particularly from southern China, the Indian subcontinent, the Philippines and Indonesia during the 19th century and early 20th century.

See, I was questioning that too.
But she's not of the faction Yu Jing, not asian-looking, and being a tech-mechanic isn't very low-skilled. Not sure what the term is referring to, but CB seems pretty good on their obscure cultural references.
That being said, Wikipedia also says:
"Coolie, a contemporary racial slur for people of Asian descent; however, in many cultures it is a neutral term for a hard-laborer"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuli_(disambiguation)
So long as she isn't of Asian descent and PanO is an amalgam of non-American cultures, it seems forgivable.
i will definitely be going all in for the Bootleg line...
the Scarface Joe dio sounds fun, climbing out of his wrecked TAG to punch some face...
i like the sexy ladies (i have the Szalmandra pilot, the Speculo Killer, the Daktari, the original Reverend Moira, et al), so i'm happy to see a painter's line with sexy minis...
Sci-Fi settings should have a sexy side, in my opinion...
the fact that none of these are set to be needed in game should placate some of the more puritanical collectors...
She's not a tech mechanic though. She is a glorified repairman, per Bostria's description. The 'powerclaw' she has is for removing damaged armor plates.
I am not sure why you mention "non-American cultures", as the term "coolie" is primarily offensive outside of the US.
It is important to remember that the term "coolie" though is used to describe individuals of Asian descent--which does include individuals of Indian descent.
I always thought that "coolie" was a derogatory term used for Chinese rail workers in the United States. Then again, I nor anyone I know has ever used that word. I assumed it was one of those archaic terms, but Wikipedia says otherwise.
Wikipedia also says it's a neutral term in some cultures for a hard laborer.
Either way, still a questionable choice of words. She sould have been a "Tech-Mechanic" or "Tech-Stripper" (because she strips away broken metal, get it?).
Still won't be buying the model. It crosses the line from cheesecake to an objectifying mess. I'd be embarrassed to be seen owning that model.
The Magariba (sp?) Pilot is the perfect blend of cheesecake and competence. Glad to be a Haqqislam player.
Regarding the Pan-O pilot, think it's kind of amusing that you have a Western artist imitating a Japanese artistic impression of a Western person.. !
Absolutely love the idea of this collectors edition of minis - I think in broader terms it is all helping to expand the Infinity universe. In between this, the art books, the background in the rule books it is really starting to become something cool. Watching those videos on BoW it's obviously something that has had a lot of thought over the years and I think any way that can be moved onto the fans can only be a good thing.
While I'm glad to see CB feeling able to do more collectors miniatures, it sucks that they've chosen to go for such gratuitous miniatures; 'pan-o pilot adjusting her stockings', really...really?

She is not a pilot.
She is an engineer. Her whole job is to fix damaged TAGs and to rearm/resupply them as well.
Nothing wrong with the word "Coolie", seems like fair play to me.
One of the the Combined Army models has a fairly derogatory name for white westerners in Cantonese that is still in common use. No one is particularly upset about that.
I think we will have to wait and see their description to better get what they are and how their name came to be, it could be a futuristic mutation as many words change meaning with time, or something entirely different.

Ah OK.

While this discussion has taken place over many (sometimes heated) pages on the Infinity forums, I think it's important to recognise that what could be described as gratuitous has been part of the Infinity aesthetic since day 1; it's all part of the manga/anime style that runs through the heart of it.
Personally I don't mind about this kind of style - it doesn't tend to make up a dominant percentage of the releases, and at least as display pieces you aren't going to be in the position of really wanting the miniature for it's stats, but then not wanting to buy the miniature because of its style.

Being if you look around on CMON you will find models in the throws of hardcore bondage I believe that CB conducted themselves in an artistic level.
I'm assuming that we'll see a burst of Bootleg releases (someone mentioned an upcoming month having nothing but Bootlegs?) and then they will integrate with the regular release cycle.

Just because there are worse examples in the genre, doesn't let CB off the hook. They've put out gratuitous cheesecake images. There've been multiple threads on this topic, and direct emails to them so they're certainly aware of the negative reactions (and message it sends about their game/hobby) that come from them doing this.
The argument of 'it's not as bad as X' is fallacious reasoning and doesn't hold up (sure, it's not as bad as some others, it's still not good though).
The plan is to have themed months related to the bootleg line, this one is TAG pilots, some of the other ones mentioned was Battle damaged and non combat personalities.
