Love the bikes, I'm a huge fan of odd units that are overpriced in the chaos book *looks at raptors bikes and defiler* the units are fun to use. Working on getting a larger chaos army after my guard are worked on for a bit longer. Also, you have so many plague marines! There are so many models its crazy! Love the greenstuff work also its excellent.

@ mekbadzappa- Thank you for stopping by and commenting, it is appreciated. I like the "odd" things about Chaos as well, though I haven't been using them much until recently. Now that the Defiler is done I'm going to try for the most "daemon" army I can. I'll likely get stomped, but it'll be fun so long as I read and understand the rules for my new models first. Looking forward to seeing your CSM stuff.

Man I've been busy these last couple of days. After cranking out that Bike last night I figured I'd better get a handle on the Defiler or it was going to wind up on the Shelf of Shame because I'm completely sick of the project and was looking for almost anything else to work on. So I sat down and really applied myself. So yes, the Defiler is...

DONE!!!

I think I did a decent job and do not feel I cut (m)any corners. I could have spent more time doing this or that, but that is true of any project I work on. As it stands I'm happy it is done and proud of the end result.

So what next? Here's the projects I have open and unfinished (meaning I already have the models and they are slotted as an active project for the Death Guard):

8 confused and lost Khorne Berzerkers as Chosen (appx 25% complete)

4 Lascannon Havocs (about 40% complete)

10 Plague Marines (about 60% complete, is not a "squad, it's just all I have left of them)

1 Aspiring Champion (about 25% complete)

1 Standard Bearer (about 25% complete)

1 Plague Marine w/ Flamer (new model, just built it last night, appx 50% complete)

Land Raider (0% complete)

Rebase the entire army (???% complete, looking forward to that task like a stick in the eye)

Not sure what I'm doing next. I'm all about working on Death Guard stuff right now because I'm really feeling it and want to run with this motivation for as long as I can because anyone that follows my work knows I have incredible periods of activity and accomplishment followed by weeks or longer of nothing at all. I don't know when the crash will come, I only know that it will. I'd like to get a few more projects off my bench before that happens.

Thanks for looking, C&C encouraged, and I'll be back!

Brilliant stuff.

I think some are going to comment on the metaphoric positioning of that gun, though.

I really like your biker mate! And I think you're definitely right about the power maul, I think it looks good
I'm super impressed with the sheer scale of the size of this army, it makes my insides tickle... Or possibly that's just the beginning of the Nurgle fungus creeping into my lungs..

Anyway mate, keep bringing the goodness!

@ zilegil- Thanks for checking this out and leaving a compliment!

@ monkeyh & inmygravenimage- Cookie for you both, that's exactly what it is (like I really changed it a lot, but still...). That bike was the most fun and 100% inspiration-driven project I've done since the Plague Sorcerer. I wish I would have more moments like that.

@ Henners91- Man that Biker really got me going. I'm bidding on a couple eBay auctions tonight that (if successful) will land me 8 more. 8, you say? 8 is not the Holy Number of Nurgle, it's Khorne! And wait... I already have 1... so TZEENTCH??? Noooooo!!! But there's a madness to my... er, madness. Let's see... (flipping through CSM Codex)... why look at that. A Chaos Lord and Chaos Sorcerer can both take a Bike as part of their Wargear. I wonder what un-fluffy mischief I could cause with a unit like that? As for the Defiler eye... I was wondering who was going to call me on that. I was hoping for a "pus-filled orb" look, but you're right, it just looks unfinished. I'm intimidated to try to make it look "right" because I have a feeling it's going to wind up looking like this:

So there you go. Maybe I'll try to fix it, but I won't be excited about doing it.

@ GiraffeX- That's exactly what he's saying, and man he means it. I did some reading on these things, and while the stat line is a bit weak, it's a Walker so it can move and still blast everything it has... plus it has Fleet, so I can either hammer on my target w/ a Battle Cannon, Twin-Linked Autocannon, and Twin-Linked Heavy Flamer and then Charge, or I can haul (up to) 18" and stomp into CC. Oh yeah. Looking forward to putting this bad boy on the field really soon.

@ JBrehaut- Thank you a lot! Ha. I'm my own worst critic when it comes to my work but I promised a hile back that's I'd get better about it so at least I allowed that someone else would like it better than I do. And I feel that same ticklely feeling when I look at this army. I've never done anything like this before, not even 1/2 close. I think back to the projects I had "back in the day" when all I did was play and paint... it feels like I put in 100 times the effort for not even 1% of the return on completed models. Maybe I took more time back then, maybe I'm just faster now, maybe I'm not really thinking about all the properly... but bottom line I have a MASSIVE army and look forward to the day I put it ALL on the same table at once and let the rotting winds of Chaos lay low all that stand before the might of the Death Guard!!!

Wow, I have been just cranking on the Death Guard! I should go back through my posts because I feel like I've offered up more new stuff in a shorter timeframe lately than I ever have before, and tonight is no exception. I've hammered out another 7 models for your viewing pleasure.

I'm really into what I am doing right now and I'm going to crash hard when I finish up the last of the last because I am wicked close. There's only a handful of models left (a Flamer, an Aspiring Champion, 4 Havoc Lascannons, and 4 regular Plague Marines) and once I'm done w/ those I'm going try to get my hands on some Bikers and some Jump Packs to make Raptors (I'll take the models out of my "eBay Rescues" CSM box). I know neither of those units are very "fluffy" (Nurgle is not known for being quick about anything) but my ultimate goal w/ the Death Guard is to have at least 1 unit of every possible option in the CSM Codex. I know I could get started on the Land Raider but honestly I'm not into that idea at all right now. In fact, if there was a way to measure how very UN-excited I am about it I'd break the needle off the scale. It will come in time, but that time is definitely not right now.

What it is time for is another photo update! Here's my latest. Remember, this is not a "squad", all of these models are just "fillers" to existing units. But I did paint them in 7, so I could take them as they are. But they aren't a squad specifically.

Not sure which shot came out better so here's two of the same group:

I really enjoyed painting these guys up. I think part of it is because I'm so so so close to being DONE. Like... done. I have almost nothing left on my desk that is slotted for the Death Guard. It's a weird feeling. I'm usually *buried* under whatever project I 1/2 started (like my Cultists... see bottom of page if you check it out... oh man what a nightmare ) but this I have never done before. Ever.

Anyway, moving on. The next model is my newest Icon Bearer. Nothing special really, but I really like this. So much that I decided to show him off in 3 different angles:

I changed the Icon a bit because it occurred to me that I already have that same banner in my army on 4 other models (at least) so I changed it up just a bit. Different enough to not look the same but still what it is so it fits in properly.

And finally, the obligatory closeups for the rest of the guys:

I will say again that I am so glad I finally changed out the basing to what I am using now (Tortured-Robot takes a bow ) and my only regret is having waited so very long to finally make the change. I am not looking forward to re-basing 100+ miniatures, but it has to happen.

I like how these came out a lot. Especially the one on the right. The eye was by change but it looks like he's glancing to the right as if something is just catching his attention...

...which of course gets his mate's attention...

AAAAUUGHHHHH!!!!!!!

*dakkadakkadakkadakkadakkadakkadakkadakka.... (reload) ... dakkadakkadakkadakkadakkadakkadakkadakka*

More coming soon!

Good lad

Glad to see you're concerned with the holy numbers, as too am I... In my (totally unfinished) Nurgle Army, I too run everything in sevens... I had thought the Dice Gods would favour me for this blind devotion to Nurgle but in the one game I did play with my CSM I got totally obliterated and lost *all* of my aspiring Champions to gets hot rolls on my plasma pistols... Ah well, their faith must've been lacking I guess...

For the eye I'd advise giving it a yellowish wash so it isn't bright white, or, if that doesn't float your boat... just prime it with some desert yellow and then go over that with bleached bone... Then try doing a big round splodge of dark flesh or a similar reddish-brown... Then just stick a pupil in there. If you're feeling adventurous you could go for a lighter brown like bestial brown and paint little streaks inside the dark flesh splodge to give the eye some interest texture... but this is me guessing in my head, my actual Daemon Prince had a very simple eye:
Spoiler:

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I have to say that as you show us more and more infantry, they're starting to grow on me.

I used to view green Plague Marines with flat textures (no mould, etc.) as just not looking that pestilent... but your use of what I think are washes and general variation in tone does make the armour look a little bit more 'alive'. Which as contradictory as it may seem to Nurgle's nature, is a bit part of looking plague-y

Completely Fantastic Skalk! The early 1970s wallpaer adds to the Nurgliness!

As for base sizes, I use whatever base sizes I want to, and what looks right. I don't give a damn what rules say. Is GW going to send the rules poice to my house and shut me down? I don't think so.

@ monkeyh- Thanks, I really enjoyed doing the SB. Simple but effective.

@ Henners91- I've sacrificed victory numerous times in the name of proper roleplay of my army. 5th Ed says field a blob of 20 Marines. Papa Nurgle says field 7 Marines. I'd sooner lose with honor than win with min/max. Your Champions were given the greatest gift of all that Nurgle can bestow on any of his loyal subjects- death. So cheer up, they went out in a flash of plasma! Yay! As for the Defiler eye, I'm intimidated to mess w/ it right now so I'm going to do some "behind the scenes" practice and see what I can practice myself up to. And thank you again for the compliments, I have enjoyed this project a lot and knowing that some of my work is inspiring other people is really the bonus on top of everything else I enjoy about doing this and posting on Dakka. More is coming for sure, though it may slow down a bit as the projects are about to get bigger w/ less models.

@ dsteingass- Considering some of the diseases that plague us still today have origins in the 70's, I think that wallpaper is the perfect touch for the Death Guard.

@ RSJake- The tread was an inspiration in a moment of need, and I'll likely use that idea again w/ other projects in the future. The Defiler turned out pretty well, about as well as I would have expected and at very least did not turn out to be less.

@ Moltar- The idea of this being almost "over" (I still have 10-15 projects I could do, but you know what I mean) is a great feeling of victory, but also a feeling of... loss? Wiht a few exceptions this has been my primary focus for a long time. The vast majority of work I've done on any project has been w/ the Death Guard. Once I'm done... well, I guess I'll have to get to work on my old World Eaters and serve them as an offering worthy of his fury and hatred. But that's not for a while yet.

My tracks form Machinator arrived today:

(base for scale)

The detail is amazing, and already looks muddy / worn / used:

Check the individual links, they would make great Extra Armor, etc

And another awesome part of this is that they come molded gray now instead of white. If you haven't checked his store out already, here's the link again: Blood and Skulls Industry. And remember, he's also a member of Dakka!

Not much else going on. I've been way too beat to paint these last couple of days. But I finished the Flamer. So few left to go...

I'm likely going to take an intentional break for a few days (opposed to a circumstantial one) and try to finish up the Lascannon Havocs this weekend. I think I have a game vs. Necrons on Saturday but I'm still waiting for confirmation. Does anyone have ideas for how to stomp Necrons? I've never played against them and have no idea at all what they are capable of. If you have any advice to share, please PM me because he reads this thread (although he almost never posts... why is it that I get more support from people in England and Australia than I do the guys that live 10 minutes from me?)

Anyway, that's it for now, will be back w/ more gifts for Father Nurgle soon!

Not an "update" per se, just a glimpse of things to come. I just scored these on eBay:

The jump packs are Imperial, but anyone that has followed this project for a while knows how much I love corrupting the tools of the Imperium and turn them back against them. I'll likely mess them up a bit w/ GS and make them a bit more "spiky" than I normally do w/ my models, but I will at least use the more bio-spikes like I do on my vehicles. I'll also be doing helmet swaps, etc to make them look more Nurgle. It's also funny that there are 9 of them... I get to steal from Tzeentch and the Imperium at the same time!

Still on the bench- Havoc Lascannon team, 4 more Plague Marines, Land Raider, 8 Khorne Chosen, uhm... and a few other things probably. Will start work on the Raptors mind-January I'm guessing.

More coming soon! Thanks for stopping by.

Ahh Ebay, shouldnt build an army without it!!

Those bikers are great, so pleased you used the round biker bases , you know how I like my bases haha.

The Defiler is great, good effort to get it finished!

If I ever get around to making a IR ( and finding a cheap one on ebay ) I'll have to try those tracks out, they look great! Tho I'd like to see how they fit first!

Good stuff.

Post by: Skalk Bloodaxe

@ Tortured-Robot- eBay is my #1 source for almost everything. I haven't bought a single miniature NIB from GW or my FLSG for any of my projects. However, I do support my FLGS for peripherals like paints, brushes, GS, assorted tools, etc. It's a decent gesture that says "thanks for still being here" and it also satisfies my The treads fit quite well actually, the only modification you have to make (key words- "have to") are cutting out the tabs on the track wells on the vehicle that are designed to keep the stock tracks in place. Another bonus is that you'll invariably have extra bits left over becasue there's no reason why you have to go all the way up and around as the top of the tracks are covered by the body of the vehicle (this is true for the Rhino, Land Raider, and Super Heavies). For customization of Chaos vehicles I don't think there's anything better, and if I didn't use the MK1 Rhino bodies I'd have them all using Machinator's tracks as well. And as always, thank you for the compliments. I have a lot of respect for your work, knowing that you are digging this project is a distinct validation that I'm going in the right direction. Because really, I just want to be part of the "cool kids" on Dakka.

@ Henners91- Thank you for the link, and you've hit on a somewhat "raw nerve" for me regarding most of my force. For all the dirty green armor, broken shoulder pads, and blood-leaking armor, I haven't really made an effort to truly Nurglize my "rank and file". Blasted holes and "Nurgle's Rot" pustules / bizarre growths would be more in line with creating a truly diseased and corrupted force. As they are right now, a color change and clean paint job on most of those models would easily put them in the Iron Warriors, Night Lords, etc. There are times when I truly feel that I have "failed" at proper modeling that is in the spirit of a Plague Marine force. No one has ever "called" me on it, but I do not doubt that someone has at least noticed. I entertained the idea of calling them "newer recruits", but bottom line is they are Death Guard and the corruption is pretty specific even for "new recruits". As I start the prodigious task of re-basing my entire force to my new scheme I may also add some new corruption to some models and make my force less "clean" overall. My vehicles are dead-on and I like how they have come out. My "characters" (Lord, Sorcerer, Aspiring Champions) are more in line with what they should be, but even then some of them look too "clean". It is somehting I've thought about a lot already, and now it seems like it's not something that could happen, it is somehting that should happen.

Skalk Bloodaxe wrote:@ Samus_aran115- I haven't ever used the in triplets because each Predator is a separate Heavy Support item. My luck with them has been lackluster and they seem surprisingly ineffective. They are too expensive (130 w/ Lascannons) considering the light armor and infrequency you get to shoot them, unless you're going to have them act as a Heavy Weapon platform (a Havoc squad w/ Autocannon and 2 Lascannons is more expensive). I like them because they look cool and I suppose given a specific scenario they'd be effective... I just haven't found it in 5th Ed yet. I'd sooner spend the extra 95 points and get a troop transport w/ dual twin-linked Lascannons and can Deep Strike. Thank you for the compliment, I really do appreciate it and would like to point out that whether you realized it or not, you're one of the first people that posted a reply on this thread. @ 999drako- Thanks for the compliment! To see "more" you might want to go back in time through this thread because the huge leaps and bounds (full squads, etc) are mostly done. I have to end this someday, and other than Raptors, another Land Raider, Bikers, Chosen, Havoc Lascannons, Obliterators, and a Palanquin I'm done w/ this project. Ok, maybe a Super Heavy and a Warhound Titan... but that's it!

@ Samus_aran115- Yup. I might be a bit weird about that but I try to keep track of people that post here and try to support the projects they have going on. And Predators aren't completely worthless. They make GREAT targets for Deff Koptas.

@ MartiniPunk- Hey, thanks for checking this out! I'm going to keep working on this until it's 100% completed and done. What "100% completed and done" really is... well, who knows? I listed my known and possible projects above, but still... I could use more Rhinos and Land Raiders... there's no way I'd ever get them all on the same table at once unless we were playing APOC or the most monstrous game of 40K I've ever played (largest every played was Warhammer 40K 40K... 20,000 points per side, 40K total, had 5 people per side. I had a 6X12 table back in those days. Good good times )

@ Llamahead- You know, I agree with you 100% but it just wasn't going to happen. I surfed eBay high and low looking for those kind og packs and the ones I found were wicked expensive (like $9 per pack) and I just now went to eBay so I could show you a pic of what I WANTED to get but couldn't afford ... and then I find this:

$20 (including shipping) for 10 packs. I don't know what I'll do with the packs I have coming, but I'm going to be WAY happier with this!!! So I'm FINALLY able to do somehting you recommended! Yay!

@ Moltar- Dude you JUST BARELY posted when i was finishing this! Ha! Yes, Oblitz are on the list!

Ok, aside for the very unexpected "update on the Jump Packs I'm all of a sudden getting, not much is happening on the Death Guard side of things. I'll be back on it soon.

For now, I want to share some links that I have been following and I have really enjoyed. All are worth of your attention. Some of the authors post here and that's really cool. Check out their stuff and show some support if you like what you see!

@ GreyTauKnight / Henners91 / GiraffeX / RSJake / Tortured-Robot / Llamahead / genom.cor / Bash / Hyenajoe - You all do very different, unique, and excellent work. I take it as a high compliment that you enjoy what I am doing here and I appreciate the feedback you give me. The absolute least I can do is offer credit to each of you and hope that others find their way to your blogs.

@ Llamahead- I do not know the manufacturer, but here's a link to the eBay auction I got them from.

@ GD1- Top of the year to you as well, good sir. I haven't made my way over to see how the most dishonored of the Emperor's seed have been doing lately, but no doubt they are growing their force so they can continue the hunt for the Fallen (or as I prefer to refer to them, the Enlightened).

Huge update tonight. I've been quite busy.

First up is my newest ADD distraction. I had it in pieces for over a year, the original idea for the Defiler was based on the body, I scrapped that idea (obviously) but had the peices all ovger the desk and the other day I was cleaning stuff up again and much like the Biker, one thing lead to another and I started making a new Great Unclean One.

Here's a shot of them both side by side so there's no question that this really is a new project and not just a rework of something I've already done:

I removed the horns and did a little GS. The base is melted because I was impatient for the glue to dry so I used my wife's heat gun. In case you are wondering, they get really hot. Oops. But the base didn't warp, so whatever. Easy fix.

Another shot a while later, has some paint and some more GS on it. I like how the sword is looking:

And a closeup on the tongue I sculpted and a better idea of the GS around his stomach and head. I also grooved the metal to follow the split line on the tongue:

I picked up an Imperial Bastion the other night (first FLGS retail purchase since I started gaming again in '09) and saw these little cuties so I picked them up. I'll be using them on the GU1 base:

Photo doesn't show detail very well, so for anyone that doesn't recognize them, they are Nurglings.

On a completely different but simultaneous project, guess what arrived in the mail?

I had to dig into them right away, and since enough people asked what I was going to do w/ them and how I was going to do it, here's a short WIP / Tut on how I'm doing my Raptors.

BASES-

Very important. I'm going with as dynamic and "action-orientated" poses as I can, which means the center of balance is likely going to be compromised on a lot of my new models. To manage that issue I weight my bases w/ nickles:

It adds a decent amount of weight and has worked very well for me in the past. VERY IMPORTANT- DO NOT glue the nickles in all at once! See below for reasons why.

POSING AND PINNING-

I'm going for a "about to land" look which requires a lot more work than just gluing a model that has one foot slightly raised off the base. Here's how I'm making that happen:

Drill out hole in foot and in base, pin the two together, glue the nickel to the base, glue the miniature to the pin. Easy.

The next Raptor I worked on of course had to be the opposite of course. Because of what I had to use as a pin (16 gauge wire) I found it easier to glue first, then pin:

The pin, model, and base:

Pin bent to shape:

Model drilled to insert pin:

Nickel glue and hole drilled. Pin was flattened on end that was connecting to base to it connected like a tab:

Pinned model form two angles"

While I was waiting for stuff to dry, I decided my Champion was going to have dual Lightning Claws and of course that meant converting something. Here's what I did and how I did it:

Power Fist and Halberd heads from WFB Empire:

Snipped / filed down the Halberd heads and cut the last digit off each finger on the Power Fist. Should have taken more WIP shots during this phase, but here's the result so far with one Claw glued in place:

I must have spaced out somewhere along the lines here becasue that's the last shot I took of the WIP for that claw. I took a lot more for the 2nd one though. Go figure. Anyway, here's the 2nd claw. This was made out of a MK VI Power Fist and claws from an arm that comes in the Chaos Spawn set. Didn't take any early WIP shots, but here is is about 3/4 done:

The thumb didn't look right so I added a few more details:

Here's my Champion in his WIP glory:

Here's individual shots of everyone so far:

A lot more works needs to be done w/ him, but you can get a good idea where this is headed.

Here's a group shot of everything I have done so far:

Yes, the last two are terrible pics, didn't realize it until I got here, and you know my rule on bad pics... pretend it looks good and I'll get you a better one later.

I am really looking forward to those packs showing up because all I'll have to do at that point is paint and put them on.

So there you go. That's what I was up to today. It's cold and dark and miserable right now, but in 3 months I'll be back on my bike eating up thousands of miles throughout the summer, so if I'm going to get anything done it needs to be now.

Thanks for looking, comments appreciated because I need to know if I'm heading in the right direction.

I'll be back w/ LOTS more soon!

PS- This is YOUR fault. All of you. Work work work!

HHahha! Beer and modeling. Life is good.

@ Bash- Beer + modeling also increases the need to bandages apparently. Long story shot, knife slipped... ouch... supergule and band-aid to the rescue, put down the sharp cutty things and use snips instead.

@ bigfish- hey, welcome back! I'm really looking forward to that new GU1. I never even thought to run it as a Daemon Prince... you are awesome! Now I am totally going to do that.

@ monkeyh- Thank you for the compliment, I'm glad people are liking this latest project because it has been as much work as the Defiler and the Land Raider. I'm really trying to do this one right.

@ nurglerulesslaneshdrools- Thanks for checking out the thread! I saw your screen name on another thread checked your threads and followed it back here! Thanks for leaving a comment, it really is appreciated. There's a LOT more coming.

@ Tortured-Robot- Apparently it is a crossover GU1 or a Daemon Prince, I'm going to run it as either. And the Raptors are going right to the head of the class once I get the Imperial Bastion I'm working on for this weekend done.

@ dsteingass- Thanks D, you know I always appreciate it when you stop by. I saw the new title of your Terrain thread, looks like you are back on task. I'll be stopping by there tomorrow, I'm too tired and too selfish to do it tonight. And yes, I imagine the Raptor Champion would have a difficult time doing much of anything with those claws on. Anything... except killing.

@ GreyTauKnight- Finished product in about a week or so. I have 4 days off this weekend, no kids, no plans, just me, beer, and Dakka. You'd think I'd want to do somehting more w/ my time but it's dead winter here, I hate winter sports, all my friends are off doing whatever things that they do, and frankly this is the time to get these things done because once I get my Harley out of the shop in late March (to mid April depending on the weather) I'm on the road as much as possible and the days of sitting on Dakka for hrs at a time while I paint models and reply to posts will be over with until September / October.

@ Henners91- Thank you. That is exactly what I wanted him to look like.

@ sennacherib- You're on the list because you deserve to be. You totally "get" the whole "Nurgle" thing and really shows in your work.

@ Llamahead- There's a specific reposing that I think is a better idea.

Short update because I'm beat tired (I've noticed a trend there recently) but I had to share this. Of course even before I post there pics there's more work done already, but I really wanted to post the "primed w/ GS" pics to show that yes I really am going to a Nurgle Death Guard look and not just inking some flat white CSM w/ green slop and then painting them up in a dirty gritty fashion but really have nothing to show what they are really supposed to be. These Raptors do not suffer that same malady.

Please notice model in far right in next pic, I repositioned him because no matter what it was SUPPOSED to be, end result on that one was it looked like he had a gastrointestinal re-breather tube. I got the same pose out of him by using his foot instead.

One more group shot:

And a picture of the kids. Aren't the just the cutest little things?

Would have had more narrative but that's it, I'm done. Goodnight, thanks for looking, and don't forget that a LOT more is still coming here. Bikes, Oblits, more Rhinos, more different Characters, etc. The Death Guard thread shall live forever! Muu-hhahha !

@ nurglerulesslaneshdrools- Already in the works:

@ Moltar- They have arrived. See below.

@ GreyDeathOne- Thanks for stopping by.

@ wolfshadow- Hey, welcome back! Hope things are going well for you. And thank you for the compliment.

@ bigfish- I know some of my stuff starts off weird. I've been lucky to pull a win out of a mess quite a few times here. Glad to know you're digging on the direction they are going.

@ monkeytroll- Thanks! Always appreciate the feedback

I haven't been very active in anything for about a week or so. Just ran out of steam for modeling and have been pursuing a few interests that do not involve a hobby knife and paint brush. But I have finished up one thing I was working on, and while I could keep going and going and going on this (because really, is something like this *ever* "done"?)

I'm really pleased with this, and proudly present to you my new Greater Daemon:

The pictures don't do true justice to the absolute horribleness of this model. One particular icky note is that when I was snipping off some flash (that I had missed during the "cleanup" phase, and apparently overlooked after the "priming" and the "inking" and every other stage almost up to the "finished" phase) I sliced into my thumb and started bleeding pretty badly. Of course it got all over the model. I didn't bother to wash it off. I did paint over a lot of it because it was just a mess, but left enough where it shows through, an astute observer will notice some VERY realistic blood effects on the model.

May want to make a note of that in case you ever play me IRL to NOT move my GU1. Ha.

In other news, HORRAY! My Jump Packs arrived. Turns out they are made by MaxMini. They look awesome, are a great cast, and fit perfectly! I haven't done anything w/ them other than open and do a quick fit becasue they just arrived yesterday and I didn't get home until wicked late last night and as much as I wanted to work w/ them I made the wise choice and went to bed instead. But here's a pic of what they are (multiple angles, hopefully gives a good idea of what they look like)

I'll be doing some subtle GS work on them, not going to slather them completely because they are so wicked cool as they are. W/ the 3 left over I'm likely going to do a couple w/ Special Weapons and may make a new Chaos Lord to lead the pack into glorious battle!

That's it for now, will be back (hopefully) soon w/ some finished Raptors!

Wow. I'd hate to be on the receiving end of that biker's mace. Ouch.

GUO looks awesome. I like who he's walking his kids to plague school. I have to admit, I'm a little surprised at your willingness to serve khorne with your own blood. Nurgle must be questioning your actions.

Raptors look ace, bud!

It's Mailbox Baseball 41st Millennium style.

I was going for a more traditional GU1 look. In the old fluff Nurglings would always tag along with their big brother whenever they had the chance. Doesn't change the stats at all but makes for a very cool 60mm base and is a solid "nod" to what once was (and hopefully will be again... come on 6th Ed!)

Khorne and Nurgle have long shared the blood on my tabletop. Before I got so obsessed w/ my Death Guard I used to run Plague Marines and Berzerkers side by side. Back in 2nd Ed when Daemons had Summoning Points Khorne and Nurgle were the 1-2 punch because they both generated points (and frequently double) just by doing what they do best because the points were so similar. Because of this I was bringing out Greater Daemons (real ones, not these generic stat ones we have now) pretty quickly... much to the dismay of my opponent.

I'm really looking forward to getting back to work on the Raptors, but the "when " is the mystery. I'm on call for my job this weekend which means I'll be staying closer to home, so maybe I'll get some work done then.

@ spudkins- Thanks for stopping by and commenting! I checked the pics in your gallery, ace work! If you start a P&M blog let me know!

@ Samus_aran115- You rule. See below.

Ok. Lots to go through tonight. First up is a HUGE SUPER MASSIVE INCREDIBLE THANK YOU to GreyDeathOne for the swap we made about a week or so ago and I'm only now getting around to posting.

Quite some time back (almost a year ago now) GD1 posted a pic of a Huron Blackheart model he had done on commission and I really liked it:

Recently I bought a Huron model for myself w/ the intent of firing my old Red Corsair force back up. I sent a PM to GD1 asking what it would cost me to have him do a commission for me. At first he wanted $$$, but before I was able to schedule an appointment with my credit union for a loan he msg'd me back about a trade instead. I had some old (very old) Deathwing Terminators that were never going to be used for anything but paperweights and as soon as he saw them he was all over them. I boxed them up and sent them out, and a few days later I had this sitting on my bench:

YEESSS!!! I have THE Huron Blackheart that I loved so much when I first saw it! The very next game I played I made sure Huron was on the table:

Of course Huron and his loyal crew were victorious!

Thanks again GD1! You are quite awesome and I can barely express how very happy I am.

But wait, there's more!!!

Here's a HUGE SUPER MASSIVE INCREDIBLE THANK YOU to Samus_aran115!!! Recently Samus_aran115 sent me a PM saying it was time for the Death Guard to find a new home and was wondering if I'd be interested. My response was that I needed more Death Guard like a "gaping hole in my head" if I remember correctly... but we discussed the idea and before long a bargain was struck. Today I became to proud owner of 41 more Death Guard Plague Marines (the majority of which are the old 2nd Ed. plastics!!!) and a pile of new bitz, lots of which I don't have!!! Yay!!!

And here are the "Crown Jewels" of the swap: 2nd and 3rd Ed. Plague marines, and some wicked conversions of the current plastic range!

I'll be keeping the paint jobs intact on two squads (or mostly, will touch up a few things here and there to finish them up or to make them "mine") and will create two new squads for my Death Guard: Squad Samus and Squad Aran. The rest will likely see inconceivable horrors visited upon them as they are assimilated into the core of my existing Plague Marines. But don't expect that to happen anytime soon because I'm really behind in working on my outstanding projects as it is.

The main reason I do not have anything new to show for the Death Guard right now is because I've been putting an ENORMOUS effort into a project I started for my friend Daichallar. He is an Ork Warboss extraordinaire and recently had a birthday. I decided that rather than buy him something I was going to make him something. So I set out to build the most awesome Battle Wagon that I could.

It started out as this:

...and ended up looking like this:

...and yes, the glyphs on the front of the vehicle spell WAAAGH.

However, all is not celebration and joy over my achievement. Last night while working on some final touches (the riveted armor plates on the hood to be specific) I was using my pin vice w/ a 1/16th drill bit to drill a rivet hole that would act as a hinge. The plastic was pretty thick so I was really cranking on it. Suddenly the drill slipped off the plastic and buried itself into the tip of my left index finger. It hit me so hard the drill bit broke.

I didn't look at it at first. You know how that is, you know you just screwed up, you know something hurts... but you don't instantly look at it, hoping it's not as bad as it feels... I looked at it and all I could see was a tiny little 1/16th hole going into my finger. But it hurt a lot, and after a moment it started to bleed (and sadly, there was no need for blood on the Battle Wagon... what a waste). Then it occurred to me that above and beyond a puncture wound, the drill bit was covered in super glue, paint, plastic, GS, resin, etc and I hadn't had a tetanus shot since June '99, so I went to see the Painboy today to get checked out.

The end result was a tetanus shot (which was not the most fun part of my day) and a prescription for antibiotics (my finger is about 1.5 times the size it should be... meaning I have an infection) plus joy of joys, cherry on top of the cake, they want me to get an x-ray because they think I have debris lodged inside the meat of my finger.

Whee.

But it was worth it. I gave the Battlewagon to Daichallar earlier tonight and he was so so wicked psyched. He did however notice that it did not have a KillCannon on it... so yeah, I'm going to make one of those as well.

If you want to check out more pics of it (way more) then go to my Gallery and check out the Kustom Ork Battlewagon folder. It's pretty awesome all around I think. Lots of tiny details, magnatized weapons that have the magnets hidden so even w/o the weapons attached it still looks awesome... I am great. No, really. I'm pretty amazing. I really enjoyed this project and did a good job. I could have done a LOT more (a LOT LOT more) but I already had countless hours in it and with a project like this, how do you ever really finish? Where do you stop? When is it "done"? Answer- when you SAY it is done, and I did.

That's quite an update with no work on the Plague Marines to share. Ha. This weekend I'm going to be on a short vacation (remember last year?):

Doing the same thing this year, except it'll be a Holiday Inn, and yes I'm bringing something to paint. Likely not the Raptors, probably just a squad of Plague Marines (because I really need more rank & file troops!) and likely the Havoc Lascannon team. I hope that I have no time top paint at all, but if I do, I'll be ready. Better to have and not need than to need and not have.

That's it for this one. Thanks for reading, thanks for posting, thanks for sticking w/ this when it's slow, and just thanks all around. I'd be doing this anyway if I didn't know any of you, but I have to say that getting the attention / feedback I get is hugely motivating and I really do genuinely appreciate it. I've gotten to know quite a few of you (in that distant and marginal Internet way) and have developed some decent friendships here. I'm grateful for that opportunity and I'm looking forward to sharing more cool Dakka moments w/ you all.

Skalk,

Sweet scores from Samus and GD1!!! Lots of tasty bits and mini's in there. That ork hum-v is awesome. On my way to go check out the other pics, but from this thread alone, it looks really, really solid. Sorry to hear about your drill bit incident. Hopefully you have a full recovery and your finger stops growing in size. Take care and enjoy your little vacation. Looking forward to more and more updates.

Skalk, that Huron is sweet. As for your injury, sorry to hear about that, but you seem to have missed an opportunity to coat the battle wagon with some genuine blood red! Besides, you aren't trying hard enough unless you've drawn blood or at least superglued your fingers together at some point!

yay! Glad you like them. That second marine with the third edition bolter and plague knife was one of my favorites.

Enjoy! Also, I found a plastic plague backpack lying around my table, and I figured I'd tell you about it. I can send it out in an envelope if you like.

Ahh - the joys of modelling - can't remember the countless times I've cut/stabbed or burnt myself. I've had some painful ones like melting my skin with paint stripper - but my favorite still has to be accidentally gluing my eye lashes together ....

I hope your finger recovers! That's a nice battle wagon- it'll look great filled with orks!! Its a shame your not taking your raptors, I am looking forward to them painted.

Great update Skalk

Has all the right ingredients - some pwetty colours, a big ol' supply drop, conversions, an orky v-hickle and of course, the all-important modelling injury

Hope the finger returns to normal size soon, modelling's a bitch with one extra-fat sausage finger.

@ TR - Your eyelashes? Really? Good job man.

Lovely job on the Battlewagon. Good luck with the finger I couldn't help but think it quite ironic that it didn't happen with a Nurgle model.......Seriously mate good luck with it.

@ Everyone- the finger is doign fine, infection is gone and I'm well on the mend. Should be back 100% in a couple days.

@ Moltar- I'm psyched the trades went well and I'm looking forward to digging into those Plague Marines as time allows. Also thanks for the compliment on the Ork Battle Wagon, I really enjoyed doing it.

@ monkeyh- I love that model, GD1 did a great job w/ it and I'm really psyched to have it. I tried to not cover the Battle Wagon with blood since it's not mine. That would be pretty icky.

@ dsteingass- Yes, you're right, and I learned my lesson.

@ Samus_aran115- I am very happy w/ the swap and I hope you are enjoying things on your end as well.

@ Tortured-Robot- "but my favorite still has to be accidentally gluing my eye lashes together .... " man I showed that to my wife and she rolled her eyes and said "you guys are all such nerds" and then laughed.

@ monkeytroll- Glad you liked the conversion. I'm really happy how it came out and I'm looking forward to facing off against it soon.

@ Llamahead- Thank you for the compliment, it was one of the most fun conversions I've done in a long time. It makes me really think about playing Orks again, but I'm not willing to invest the time or $$$ right now. I have way too many other things I'm working on.

@ spudkins- Thanks for the compliment, and I'm going to be making a KillKannon for it eventually.

I'm posting this on all of my active threads (Plague Marines, Cult, and Terrain). I'm not going to be posting any updates for a while. Nothing is wrong so no worries there, but I have some things that I need to manage and it is going to cut into some of my modeling time. That coupled with the fact that I'm really needing to take a modeling "break" has brought me to this. So rather than just disappear like I did last time I figured I'd at least offer an explanation up front so folks know that things are ok and also know that I'm not being lazy w/ updates, I'm simply not doing anything right now.

I will be back, hopefully sooner than later, but in case some time passes I have a specific request:

Please do not post on this thread until I update it next.

I do not want the thread to be locked by Mods and have to go the whole "please unlock my thread" thing w/ them. If you're digging on what I'm doing here, send me a PM. I expect I'll still be surfing Dakka when I'm at work now and then and will try to stay up w/ the threads I am actively following, I just won't be posting any new stuff here for a while.

And again, just to verify- nothing harsh or bad going on here, I just have some stuff that requires more attention than I have been giving them and I'm going to see a pretty genuine decrease in my modeling / online time at home. I will be back, and w/ any luck I'll have some new stuff to share.

@ GiraffeX- How about Death for the Death God? Doesn't sound very supportive. And the Huron model is far beyond my current ken, it was painted by GreyDeathOne (who sadly seems to have left Dakka)

@ Henners91- Sometimes the worst diseases are those that fester over time...

*brushes off thread*

First off, this isn't much of an update. it's more of a "hi, this thread isn't dead and is still a WIP". For the last few months I've been hammering away at terrain. Check out my Terrain Project- Building a Better Battlefield thread if you're interested. No, I have no shame whatsoever in promoting my own threads. I said here and in my in my Chaos Cultists thread that I knew 6th Edition was coming and that I was going to slack off both projects until I knew what I was working on was still going to have an application in the game.

Well, 6th Edition is finally here, and rumor is the new Chaos Codex is inbound next month. I'm enjoying the new rules, and so far I'm 1/1 for games. That's going to change for better or for worse tomorrow. I'm heading to Quarterstaff Games for my first 6th Ed Tourney. If you've been reading my threads for any amount of time you know I don't necessarily like tournaments. I'm going to this one because it's a good way to get more expose to the new rules, see how other people are interpreting rules that aren't clear, and to get some good ol' combat time in for my troops.

Because the new rules include Allies and my Battlebrothers are Chaos Daemons, I have a renewed interest in bringing my Daemons of Nurgle up to speed. First task is to get them on the right base. My GU1 is already finished. Here's my first step in converting over my Plaguebearers:

I also took my Daemon Prince of Nurgle from 2nd Ed and moved him to a regulation 40mm round base. Base isn't done by any means, it's just a start:

Last but not least, I re-flocked this Dreadnought as it is coming with me tomorrow (base isn't painted yet).

The Daemon Prince was going to as well, but I'm going to take a more Death Guard list and leave the Daemons home this time. However, that will not always be the case. In fact (and not hard to imagine) my interest in Daemons is evolving to the next step and I'm seriously considering a Daemons of Chaos army. I have enough models to do it without a problem. All I have to do is find the time to make it happen.

But that can wait. My next projects are specific to bringing my Death Guard up to 6th Edition. First I'm going to tear apart my Terminators and magnetize the arms. Then I'm going (FINALLY) start re-basing my army. However, this isn't my main project right now and isn't going to be again for a while. The Death Guard will be back in full force at some point, and updates will happen again in the near future, but they aren't going to get most of my attention. I'll have a better idea on what I'm doing with them (and my hobby time overall) once the new Codex drives my ambitions.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for keeping me subbed. I'll be back!

Good to see you back and knocking the dust off of this thread. Nice. I too have big plans for the new codex when it comes out next month. Also have big plans for integrating it with Chaos demons. Epiditimus etc are all waiting in the wings till they get the ok to start showing their faces in my PM thread.

Note. I am still in Yosemite on the job so i wont be posting pics for a month or so.

@ sennacherib- Hails, Plague Brother! I'm really excited about the Codex. Rumors abound that it will be out next month. I'm genuinely looking forward to it, but it's also with a bit of apprehension. I have a lot of hope riding on this, because this is where the magic happens for my army. Did they fix the 'one size fits all / 32 flavors of vanilla'? Are my Possessed still pointless? Am I really going to field 7 Bikes w/ the Mk of Nurgle? Only time will tell. And time appears to be sooner than later.

@ Wh40kPicasso- If you need to let those Terminators go I can think of a great home for them. PM me on that one if you'd like. As far as the DP goes, he'll be seeing a lot more love now. He can lead my Plague marines, and he can be Heavy Support for my (soon to come) Daemons. I thought about "fixing" it, but I painted it in January of '99 and I'm going to let it stand 'as is', only change is the base.

@ tipios- Thanks! I really enjoyed that project. Wish I had known a few things I know now, like sponge-painted rust, etc... but for what it is I think it came out pretty awesome.

Quick update that isn't really an 'update'... again nothing new as far as miniatures you've never seen from me, but I have started a project that I'm hoping will help my force be more flexible to meet the tactical challenges of 6th Ed.

I've started to magnetize my Terminators. It is a task for sure, because first I have to rip the arms off completed models and then drill them out by hand. But the results are decent. All I'm going to do w/ most of my Terminators is pull the left arm so I can swap out Power Fist w/ Power Weapon. Here's the first model finished:

And a cool aside... DYNAMIC POSES!

I have a lot of "behind the scenes" going on right now. I'm not 'back' per se, but I'm definitely moving Plague Marines around on my paint desk.

More coming, thanks for reading!

Post by: Skalk Bloodaxe

@ GreyTauKnight- I'll be back to my Plague Marines in September after the new Codex comes out. Even if it isn't my primary project it will be seeing a lot more love than it has been. At absolute minimum I'll be posting cleanup projects and minor updates, like this one.

@ Wh40kPicasso- I try to rotate them once every 7 months.

So, was following a gem of a find on eBay and won it this afternoon:

10 RT era Plaguebearers for $29 including S&H. I'm wicked happy and yes you'll be seeing them again pretty soon. They will look quite different. Muuahahha.

In other news, 6th Edition has been a lot more fun for my Death Guard. No, I haven't been playing those lame cheezefest lists that the Tourney players have been -whining- talking about. I'm simply playing straightforward 7 Death Guard per Rhino w/ Flamer or Melta SW and a Plague Champion w/ some sort of gear. Haven't pulled any Daemonic allies yet, likely will once we start playing larger games.

Still giving a LOT of thought to running a Daemon army, but it's on hold for now.

More will be coming. This project will never be finished and I'll keep updating it for as long as I'm among mortals.

That is a sexy, sexy find right there. If you like those older plaguebearers, I have several of the first-gen dudes just like that, I'd totally trade you one-for-one for either the most recent metals or the new plastics.

Death Guard Plague Marines- old meets new @ 2012/08/02 17:34:52

@ Feldenglas- Dude, if you think that was sexy, check this out.

Scored that just now. 36 Plaguebearers, 5 units of 7. I'll never have to buy another Plaguebearer again.

I have 41 of the (until recently) new metal Plaguebearers now. That's 2 massive blobs of 20. I picked these up because ktbb22 is going to run a Daemon army (yes, we have another 40K player for the group) w/ a mix of Khorne and Nurgle so it's up to her what we keep / trade / sell.

This should be a lot of fun. And added bonus- I'm going to start getting a LOT of games in. Looking forward to finding as many broken combinations as I possibly can and learned the rules well enough to take the 40K equivalent of a bar exam.

I used the phrase 'bar exam' on purpose. Yes, I want to become a Rules Lawyer and be able to quote page and paragraph like I could in 2nd Ed and Necromunda.

Muuahhhaa!!!! Muuahhahahhh!! MUUAHHAHHAHAA!!!!

Why would a disease-ridden plaguebearer have proper posture?

Death Guard Plague Marines- old meets new @ 2012/08/06 19:34:16

Post by: Skalk Bloodaxe

@ Henners91- I don't have anything against the new plastics other than a couple of them look stupid to me. I had an opportunity on the metal ones that just couldn't be passed up. What I may eventually have (for my Death Guard, not our Daemon list) is a conglomeration of all the Plaguebearer releases, RT to plastic. Keeps with the "old meets new" theme of my Death Guard.

@ bigfish- oh man tell me about it. The staggering amazing 'I can't understand why' thing about it is I am the only person that bid. Not complaining though. Massive haul, affordable price, 'one stop shopping' for all my Lesser Daemon of Nurgle needs! Expect to see them painted and displayed here very soon, I have help now.

@ Limbo- I don't really know what I think of them other than there are a few that look pretty stupid. I'll have to see some in person.

@ dstein- I get your question ( ) but I think what Limbo meant was more about the pose of the model. Some of the models, as noted above, look pretty stupid to me. I'm guessing I'm not the only one.

Well, nothing specific to report other than I'm looking forward to the Chaos Codex so I can get back to work on things, and wicked looking forward to ktbb22 getting her Daemon army built up. If she can wrap her head around the random weirdness game mechanics of Daemons in 40K then she'll be a lifelong player. We're already building a vanilla CSM army just for the fun of modeling. I'm excited about the Daemons getting here, will check the PO this coming Saturday.

Thanks for staying interested, I'll be back soon with some real stuff to share!

I am not a fan of the new plastics. They look like they are short on detail. Too smooth for my taste and the plague bearers look like mister peanut having a bad day. That said i will likely get two packs of them just to have a second squad of 20 for my army.

Skalk has an old meets new theme and as it has a bit of everything in it, he would be remiss to not include them in his collection.

Skalk~ to you have any non GW models in your army. I have been lookin at the avatars of war hearld of nurgle lookin thing. What do you think of their product.?

@ sennacherib- I agree they do look pretty goofy. However, even a broken clock is right once a day (unless you are on European or Military time, then it's only once ) and no doubt there are some awesome bitz that come with them that could be used for conversions elsewhere. I'll be picking some up at some point, maybe in a year or so when some kid sells his Chaos army to move on to the next great thing. Regarding the 'non-GW' modeling in my army, my Daemon Price is from Ultraforge:

I also have a Chaos Spawn from RAFM Cthulhu range:

I've checked out the Herald of Pestilence before:

...and don't like it at all. Looks like a buffed-out Nurgling and doesn't immediately draw my eye and say "wow that's cool".

@ Limbo- Right there with you.

@ dstein- That's the coolest thing about them for sure. The conversion possibiulities are going to be incredible and you can bet I'll be cranking some of those out once the bitz sellers on eBay get their hands on some. In away the Plaguebearers are in line w/ the fluff for Papa Nurgle as all of the Daemons are generally good natured and jovial, they really want to have fun and be your friend, but their 'love' will infect you with horrific diseases and kill you.

@ Max- Thanks! I'll have updates on both as soon as the Codex comes out. I'm likely to skip the next LoER terrain contest because it eats up a lot of time and I have other projects waiting to be completed.

My RT Plaguebearers arrived yesterday and I took pics but could not post them last night. Game / hobby time has been pretty limited lately.

I also rec'd 7 sets of Lightning Claws. I wonder what I'll wind up doing with those. Hmm. HMMM.

In other news, my magnetization project is coming along slowly, as is my re-basing project. All of my Death Guard models are being converted to the ashen wasteland base style I started a while back. Matches my table better.

So, awesome updates coming, just need that new codex!!!

Stupid amended post

Post by: Skalk Bloodaxe

Ok, a few things here. It's been quite a while since I actually took pics for an update. First up is the Plague Marine I swapped w/ Galon when he was here for a game. I really like the coloring and the excellent GS work. If I had my Plague Marines to do over again, they would likely be more like this, meaning a mottled and drab color instead of the neon bright poison that mine have, and with a lot more bloated icky bitz. That's not taking anything away from my army, I know it's awesome and unique, plus I'm keeping a theme I started a very long time ago.

I'm also happy to say that my RT Plague Bearers showed up a few days ago.

I've never actually seen any in person, and have to say that I'm not completely in love with them. They look like Goblins.

But it is what it is. They will find a happy home in my Death Guard.

And here's the most awesome thing I'll post on this thread for quite a while- 34 metal Plaguebearers!

Here's a couple shots detailing the 10 different types included in the horde:

I'm thinking that I'm not going to repaint them. I'm going to leave that to ktbb22. I'm trying to get her more involved on Dakka and gaming in general, I think if she started a P&M blog about her Daemon army she'd have an easier time getting into all of this. I'm going to help her with it of course, and to that end I've got her a step ahead in the right direction:

They look absolutely miserable. I hope the get repainted soon. really soon. Hint hint. Soon. Sooooooooooooooon.

That's it for this one. Still waiting on the Codex before I really get back into this. Thanks for looking!

I can totally understand the repainting action with the plague bearer models but when i saw them i was pretty stoked on the paint job.
What do you use to strip paint. have you every tried LA Totally Awesome. Its only 1$ at the dollar store and i have to swear that its the best thing that i have tried. works Totally Awesome.

@ sennacherib- I agree, the paint wasn't that bad at all and if they were going to be 'mine' I'd likely have hit them w/ a green / brown wash to bring them in line w/ the rest of my Death Guard. The reason they got stripped and what I used to strip them is explained at the link below

Ok. Rather than continue to post ktbb22's Daemon project here, I've created a separate thread for it. Please check it out if you have an interest.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/470352.page#4660111

Only news I have for my Plague Marines is that I started soaking my RT Plaguebearers and I'll clean them up soon. They are my next project and will be part of my 'allies'.

Not much of an update, but here are my RT Plaguebearers striped and ready for primer:

I'm looking forward to painting these becasue it's going to be a quick and really easy job. Base white, wash w/ my ink mix, swords, and fiddly bitz. Will have them posted as soon as they are done.

This thread is not dead but updates will be slow until I get the new Codex and find time to really focus and paint.

Love your work. I was curious about that Daemon prince your making. Just how big is he? I am just starting a Nurgle style chaos army, And i love the soul grinder, but hate the body on it. Would that daemon prince you are working on be large enough to take the place of the body on the soul grinder?

@ Arrathon- Thanks for the compliment, always nice to hear other people like where this project is going. The Daemon Price is completed, the above pic was a reference to show I'm not using just GW models in my army. Here's a completed pic, and one that provides scale:

On 60mm base, has been moved to a 40mm since then:

Leading a mighty force of Death Guard:

It's the best Daemon Prince model I've ever seen for the Death Guard and I'm really happy that I picked it up.

Small update today, happy to share this as I'm finding some time to get some things done. Started on my RT Plaguebearers this morning. They are sporting the exactr same color scheme as my Plague Marines.

Primed flat white:

Inked green and washed w/ Griphon Sepia:

A few closeups:

I was a bit skeptical when I first got these, but just like Nurgle's Rot will spread across an entire plant, these Plaguebearers have grown on me. They represent the goofy and funny aspect of GW that has been gone for far too long. It reminds me of a time when Nurgle was jovial and playful. He just wanted to be your friend. It never occurred to him that things like pestilence / disease / death were not endearing factors to those he wanted to play with.

I'm having a lot of fun w/ these and you can expect to see more progress soon.

Thanks monkeytroll! I'm going to keep going on these and give them a decent paint job. I'm going to paint all 10 of them but will try to keep them in squads of 7 (which means it would be awesome if I could find 4 more of them...)

You could try pm'ing Mabrothrax or over on the papanurgle forums maybe? I too love the comedy gold of your plague daddy-kind.

Thanks graven! I found a possible hookup from a local buddy of mine so all I did was check his thread out and sub becasue it is awesome.

Not sure if anyone is interested or not, but I found this (3rd Ed metal Plaguebearers) and it might be a good deal when it sells. Worth looking at anyway.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Warhammer-40k-Deamons-of-Chaos-20-Nurgle-Plaugebearers-Metal-Painted-/140848552702?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20cb3a5afe

More awesomeness from me soon. I'm 'batchin' it tonight, no one home! Whoo! I'm really looking forward to knocking back a couple beers and really focusing on painting. I'll likely be adding more to my Plaguebearers, but I also have some terrain I'm really into (the stuff from Dave) AND I have a couple other things, and then other other things, and of course there's there's the OTHER other other projects... never a dull moment when i have time to model / paint / etc awesomeness.

I'll be back with something to share as soon as I can.

Mmm...Too many ongoing projects? That's an odd situation! I hope it'll never happen to me...errr...wait...

The plaguebearers are an interesting deal, too bad the seller is only shipping whithin the U.S.
I can't for the next CSM codex to see how your army will be impacted

Skalk,

Just finally caught up with your plog. Brilliant stuff as always mate. The Plauge-Bearers are an awesome blast from the past. Reminds me of the days as a kid looking through the old 'Citadel Journal', wishlisting my pocket money away.

As Llamahead has pointed out, any pics of the Raptors? And also (I may have missed it) where did you get those jump packs from?

Take care as always (no more injuries!)

Bash

@ Hyenajoe- I have only 4 projects going- Terrain, Death Guard, Cultists, and another little thing I've been distracted with from time to time. That's all. I'm not going to mention the dozens of sub-catagories in each project. It'll make me sound a bit looney.

@ Llamahead- I want to do some magnetic conversions to them so they can have Special Weapons / etc and I haven't gotten around to making that happen. With the new Codex just around the corner I'm thinking I am going to wait... but that was my excuse earlier (waiting for 6th Ed). I'll get back to them eventually.

@ Bash the Bosh- Wow, welcome back. Haven't seen you in a while. Really appreciate the compliment, and I remember the same thing about the RT stuff. The old miniatures have lost a lot of relevance in the newer editions, but they are still as awesome as they always were. As for the jump packs, they are from Maxmini. Hope the link helps. And finally... no more injuries are planned anytime soon.

Not an 'update', just new pics of an old project because of the interest in it. Not add'l work has been done on my Raptors, but I'm looking at them again and I really need to finish them. I have no idea what the new rules for them will bring, but these models need to be finished. I put a *lot* of work int the conversions (especially the Aspiring Champion) and it's ridiculous that they have sat on my shelf since mid-January.

Here are some new pics of the unit:

The poses are so dynamic, so 'action-orientated'... I did a good job on these. I'm not disappointed with a single one, do not feel I 'settled' for anything less than what I wanted, and my only regret I have with this unit is that it's not finished.

I have so little time these days to model, and when I do I sometimes just sit at my desk looking at my 'on deck' projects. I've been working on terrain mostly, simply because most of it doesn't require a codex and makes my table look better.

I am looking forward to getting back into the Death Guard. Thanks for staying interested in this thread. More coming, hopefully soon !

Still Keeping tabs Skalk! Looking great. What did you end up doing with all my Plague Marines?

Hey Samus, decent to hear from you again.

 Samus_aran115 wrote:

I still have most of them. A squad of them wound up going to RSJake, and he's already visiting some horrible Nurgle plague upon them. Most of the rest is in my "Unfinished Chaos" box. However, squad Samus is in play and has already seen the tabletop here.

I kept most of the paint as original. I did finish some detail work you started, following your ideas on the rest of the bits to finished. I couldn't figure out your particular shade of red so I matched it as closely as I could.

I remember that Squad Samus used to be in your Black Legion, so I did some extra work and gave them all distinct Black Legion shoulder pads. When the Black Legion goes to battle, it will have an attached Plague Marine squad.

I thought this bit was funny. There's one model you converted from a Space Marine helmet as a trophy. I did a some work on the helm to make it look 'empty' and also painted it in a Dark Angels theme. I expect I'll bee seeing more and more of those armies pop now thanks to DV. I like to poke a bit at my opponent by having a dead piece of 'his' army hanging off a trophy rack, and I think going w/ DA was an excellent choice. Muahaha.

Not a dedicated paint job for sure, but it's recognizable as a Dark Angels helm, and that's all that matters.

Did a bit of work last night, sharing it to show I'm going to try to finish my Raptors. I know the Codex is out in a few days, but I can't imagine that rules for the classic Bolt Pistol / Chainsword combo being written out, so I'm giving it a go. The Champion I'm not so sure about. Depends on next week (that's the last rumor I heard).

Everything has some work on it. A couple are getting some basic detail, some are moving past that. At minimum I have the Bolt Pistols and Chainswords painted metal now and awaiting detail. I also have most of the bronze trim done, just need to pick out some detail on a few gloves, a couple helms, etc and I'll be done w/ that part.

That's it for now. I'll share more when I have it to share.

Nope. That'll make you seem like a perfectly reasonable modeller to me

Raptors are looking good, although I did hear a rumour that the pistol/sword combo was getting replaced by Twin Chaosy Fists of Chaotic Chaos

Thanks monkeytroll. I'm really looking forward to them. But wait up here moment... I've seen the new Raptor with those smaller Lightning Claw looking things. I thought it was just how they were modeled. It didn't occur to me that under current CSM Codex you can't give Lightning Claws to an entire unit.

Hurgh.

I'm putting them back on the shelf until I get the Codex.

I was actually just making a jokey reference to all the Doomy Doomed stuff of Doom the GK's got, but now that you've mentioned it I had to relook at those pics. And those Warp Talons are modelled with no weapons other than their claws. 'With their vorpal claws they slice their way into the material world, to attack from the nightmare dimension of the Warp.' Sounds like a new unit, whether or not it replaces raptors....??

These are what GW is selling as Raptors right now:

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1710090a

...which aren't these:

I have no idea if the Raptors (bottom pic) were replaced a while ago by Raptors (top pick) very recently.

There's two types. IE two different unit types. The traditional raptors will focus on what you're used to (Jump troops). The new raptors (with the claws) are a new unit of Freddy Kreugers which (in theory) will come on and off the board as they attack from nightmares or whateverthehell GW wants you to pretend. (I think, but am not sure, that Necron deathmarks work in the same way or a similiar way).

Edit: Don't listen to me. I probably have my Necron units confused, but ideally, the clawed raptors will have a phase shift.

The new Raptors are called Warp Talons and have an ability to phaseshift I.e I should imagine an move and then an extra assault movie (Not quite sure how it works).

Supposed to illustrate how they move in and out of the warp all a bit meh to be honest after all why would a CSM want to warpshift anyway? well I suppose there is "Warp Time" but still...

Not really, there are still raptor units and then there are new Warp Talon units. They have different rules and different fluff.

I would imagine a Warp Shift would be so you could just appear on an enemy's flank or to move around the table instantly?

I'll know the answers to all of this on Sunday. My FLGS has a copy of the new Codex on hold for me.

The new Codex doesn't mean an immediate update here, I'll be sticking w/ my Terrain Project for the foreseeable future. I have enough Plague Marines to play APOC, but my table needs a lot more attention.

I'll be back when I have something to share (which shouldn't be terribly long)

My Death Guard army has been reduced to an Elite choice.

There was a rumor a while back that there is a CSM Codex supplement book coming out that details all the 'name brand' Legions like World Eaters, Death Guard, etc. Until (unless) this happens I won't be doing any work on this project.

This thread is dead for now.

That's a damn shame to hear mate. As this Codex is by far the best of the lot, especially considering that it's gone back to Marks and you can give the unit an icon to make it Fearless.

That and the fact that the Chaos Lord with the Mark unlocks the cult troops as just that, troops....

Just a bit sudden and saddening to see you just throw in the towel like this.

Sorry DSS. I know ragequit is immature and lame. I'm just really pissed. I'll get over it.

The rest of the Codex is pretty cool. I like the Rewards, and Cultists are back in force. No Imperial armor, but I can see where that might be a little OTT unless it was a 'Cultist only" army. I think the idea of Cultists using a Land Raider is kind of silly.

If the rumors are true (name brand legions getting specific rules / writeup) I'll be really happy. Until then there's really no reason to keep going on this project. I might finish my Raptors but I'm not sure yet. I took a metaphorical nardshot on Sunday and I haven't shaken it yet on Tuesday. It'll take a while to get over the whole 'majority of my army stays on the shelf' thing. Once I'm done being a whineass I'll figure out what I'm doing next for army composition.

Most likely it'll be a lot of Black Legion and / or Red Corsairs.

A buddy of mine just told me to look up Typhus in the new Codex, and I found this-

Lord of the Plague Host: In a primary detachment that includes Typhus, Plague Marines are troop choices instead of elites.

So now I need to find out what 'primary detachment' means. Depending on how that works out, I may finally get around to painting up my Typhus model.

It's not just Typhus that gets that. A Chaos Lord with the Mark of Nurgle, Khorne or Slaanesh unlocks Plague Marines, Berserkers or Noise Marines as troops respectively. The Sorcerer with Mark of Tzeentch unlocks Thousand Sounds.

A Primary Detachment is your 'main' army. Secondary detachments etc. are when you take extra Force Org charts or Allies.

See man? It's not all bad at all. This is why I was confused you were so frustrated. Yeah, PMs are elites now for CSM - unless they have Typhus or a Chaos Lord with MoN. And to be honest? Considering a Chaos Lord with MoN and a Power Weapon comes out CHEAPER than a base Blood Angels captain with a power weapon it's a steal.

Also, the fact you can give so many units Marks (including Obliterators, Mutilators, Warpsmiths, Dark Apostles and even Warp Talons!) opens up so many windows for us Nurgle Players. Plague-priests, Plague-smiths...it just goes on!

This is a great thread. I have been away from the hobby for some time, just getting back in now. Aaaaand of course there is a new Rulebook and new CSM codex. GW keeps screwing up my army list and model conversions so we'll see what this latest incarnation does. I am glad that I decided to finish my IG first...(they were closest to being done, and now they are).

I am going to pick up the new dex next week and get started (re)building my Death Guard and whatever else I can go with (it was going to be Word Bearers, now, we'll see. They aren't painted...).

I wonder how a group with a Mark of Khorne may work.
