I'm not sure, if I've seen them as sinister. They are certainly interesting, as the AI ponders of what he really is and how is he tied to us. I can see why people would fear him, especially how the mainstream western media loves to portray " rouge AI " scenario.

Ah, the memories of that awkward moment... That would make a very funny diorama.
Then again, considering Ajax' pose Machaon could rather be checking his genetically enhanced prostate gland. That would also explain Ajax' facial expression.
But seriously, does he have some kind of scanner in his right hand or is he luring somebody in? Hard to tell from the pics.

Well the fact ALEPH had a standing army, that she never told us about. Until a time came the HS was so desperate they had no chose but to over look the little fact. Or, the fact ALEPH edits the info it lets the O-12 and the rest of the HS see, dispite the O-12 having a branch deadicated to keeping a eye on her and keep the code staying stable. ALEPH been fooling them for years, has control Maya, the HS money (not Noamds ), and politics. ALEPH may be hard code to protect mankind, but history shows us the deeper the belief the greater the evils there willing to perform to reach there goal.
There are no saints in Infinity, I'm constantly amazed how many people think that somehow humans evolved into something more, that we have somehow surpassed our flaws. If anything they are even more visible in the setting.
It's silly to think Aleph will keep every information public, never mind the more sensitive. How he interacts with the rest of the sphere and what will be his endgame shall be interesting to read, though I doubt CB will ever release the final answer to this question.
Infinity factions are more about the system and your perception of it. Same as I cannot see Nomads as freedom fighters that are battling the tyranny of civilization and enjoying all the benefits and downsides of raw freedom. Yet some find this thought to be very attractive.
Aleph ties into the classic sci-fi trope of an AI that, while benign on the outside, we can't really know the motivations for. It protects the human sphere, helps the economy and transport networks, backs up citizens into cubes and through it an immortality of sorts, and apparently society would be impossible without it. Now that the Combined Army has attacked the human sphere and the AI has squared itself off against the EI (the CA equivalent), and put forward perhaps the most formidable soldiers in the human sphere against it.
So it's definitely not the overt bad-guy, and far from it. But.. it will be interesting to see how things change going forward. One of the great things about Infinity, is that its not a fixed timeline and the plot has already developed from when the game was released (the CA stepping up the assault on Paradiso, loss of Ko Dali, introduction of the Tohaa etc.), although if Aleph did suddenly show its true colours and turn against humanity, the human sphere would be pretty much done for!
With all these new releases I am trying to figure out what second faction to start.
I am playing Ariadna right now, and I would like something that feels more like the opposite both in play style and looks. My poor colonists get painted in pretty drab colors, so I am thinking about picking up a second faction that is more bright and modern looking. Right now it seems like a toss-up between Nomads and Aleph, any recs?
Alpharius wrote: Box 4 being Haqq vs. PanO and Box 5 being Tohaa vs. CA?
Correct.
We will at some point most likely see Dire Foes boxes with the following of the unrepresented, currently existing Sectorials:
Bakunin
Aconticemento Shock Army
Imperial Service
Merovingian Rapid Response Force
Qapu Khalqi
Admittedly that causes an odd number of possible representations(5) rather than an even number of possibles, but we could see a repeat or some overlap with something else.
Haha thanks mate! Need to stick an Xmas hat on it at some point I suppose

Yes right both of those are very cutting-edge looking. Although, the 'big two' Pan-O and Yu-Jing both have very futuristic looking miniatures as well.
The Pan-O have had a lot of focus on their Military Order most recently, which are kind of old-fashioned ideas with a sci-fi spin on them, but there are a lot of miniatures from the range that would suit:
Spoiler:
And Yu-Jing have got stuff like the 'Bjork' robots, Hac Tao (most hated of enemy miniatures.. ! ), robots and stuff.
Spoiler:
The Japanese Sectorial again is similar to the Military Orders in that it is heavily influenced by Japanese Samurai-era culture (although cyber ninjas and ashigaru are pretty cool!)
Well shoot, what was the black friday discount? I ordered 2 x Ectros (one for me, one for Kan ) and the Intruder Sniper (also for Kan! for minis already sent to me ) but didn't see anything applied to my order.
For the reference of anyone else ordering(since I forgot to tell RiTides...damn my cold medication today)

Well darn . That's kind of obvious, I totally should have thought of that! No big deal with such a small order and only 5%, but you'd think I would have thought they might be having a sale today before ordering

The Ectros tubes are pretty easy to work with especially compared to the Dragoes, Szalamandra, or to a lesser extent the Iguana. They should come prebent to the proper angles and fit with no real work if the Ectros in the starter box is anything to go by.
I think this might be a first peek at the Thorakitai boxed set now that I look at it a bit harder.
The design from what I can see looks slightly ALEPH.

I lost the knee knife for my Ectros--or it just plain was not in the box to begin with.

I'm inclined to agree, but I think this was Angel just "confirming" the speculation. Right now he is finishing the Gorgos insignia and decided to use that as a way to say "You guys who guessed Gorgos are right!"
Frankly I am surprised by the Gorgos coming out before the Tikbalang or Seraph.
Barzam wrote: Was the Gorgos supposed to carry a spear? I definitely see a spear underneath the plastic wrap.
The Flammenspeer is basically a heavy bolter (large calibre self propelled ammunition) with a napalm warhead (large template fire damage). It's not an actual spear.
While the Gorgos art looks a lot like the Ectros, I'd say the spear points to that being the final Ectros profile with a Vulkan Shotgun.
edit - scratch that, Kanluwen is saying it's the Gorgos. Which probably, as he said, is armed with a melee weapon just because, like the Ectros are armed with giant ass spears even though they have standard CCWs.
Month 4 post Gecko concept art and still no gecko... I'm starting to see little lizards sticking their butts out like Infinity models everywhere I go... and my throat is parched... I don't know how much longer I can hold out without TAG...
Wayland Games have just put out an advert for the first of the Dire Foes releases, release date 16th December (so just about before Xmas! One has already gone on my Xmas list )
Ā£23.39, they're also offering free delivery if you pre-order (dire foes, and the new Infinity releases for this month).
Bear in mind that the Gorgos releasing now is because of the recent nature of the Tohaa introduction to the game.
Most TAGs take a longer time to go from concept to release. Latest information I had about the Gecko pegs them as a late 2014, early 2015 release. Format is a double box--one of each of the Gecko profiles.
Konstantinos was a lunar roverplane pilot but also a thrill seeker, a weakness of behavior that caused his girlfriendās dead. Once enlisted as an Order Sergeant, Konstantinos worked fervently to excel within his unit and earn points with which to obtain a Resurrection permit for Niki and clear his conscience. However, deep down, Konstantinos was still the same thrill seeker, who survived hellish situations simply because he felt comfortable in them. This internal ease was what piqued the interest of the Special Operations Command, who recruited him for its Indigo unit. That is how Konstantinos became a special agent, a reliably ruthless first-rate hunter in the service of God and PanOceania. He knows this is the only way to make restitution and regain the love of his life. It is the right thing to do, and he will do it no matter the cost.

SHASVASTII CORAX HASHT
My subject-identifier is Hasht. I belong to the sequential brood 6/529. Along with my siblings, I was bred as a soldier and protector of my race. I was conditioned to be the perfect guardian of the Shaviishāthe SpawnEmbryo reserve-hatcheryāfor the Aerota star cluster. When the Shaviish was destroyed by the Tohaa, I was left with no other motivation but vengeance. I requested a transfer to the Corash unit, so I could choose to be posted where I would hurt the Tohaa the most. My goal was to fulfill the duty for which I had been bred. I was still a soldier protecting my race, only in a more proactive, hostile way. I am a Corash. I am inevitable. There is no escaping me.
Barzam wrote: Have we had much fluff from the Shasvastii's perspective yet? I think that's the first bit of it I've read. It does make him sound kind of cool.
It does yes, very 'alien' sounding. I quite like the Morat stuff as well actually, reminds me a lot of the Jem'Hadar from Star Trek: DS9, with the way that they sound like proper professional soldiers who live and breathe for war, but are ultra pragmatic about it at the same time - in fact the whole interaction between the Morat and the EI makes me think that whoever wrote the background must have almost certainly been a fan
Shasvastii is one of the best written alien backgrounds for me so far, they are close enouph to understanding them, yet they have that "one step away" that places them in the zone that they seem strange and inhuman.

Are your ready for ITS 2014?
The next season of the Infinity Tournament System (ITS), Infinityās Organized Play program, will begin in January. Throught the following weeks we will show some of the new features so players and organizers can get ready.
REGIONAL RANKINGS
Infinityās players community grows constantly. So much they no longer fit in just one ranking! There will be 3 Regional Rankings for the new season: Spainās Ranking, United Statesā Ranking and International Ranking.
That means that, when the season ends, there will be prizes for the best three players in Spain, the best three players in the United States and the best three players in the rest of the world.
In the following season we will add more Regions as the communities in other countries grow.
NEW EXCLUSIVE MINIATURE
In this season we will maintain all the Tournament Packs that are already available. The only change will be the new exclusive miniature for the Classic Tournament Packs. Than means that all the previous Tournament Codes will still work during the new season!
NEW ITS RATING SYSTEM
With the new rating system, based off the know ELO system, the rating will go up or down depending on the playerās performance: When the organizar sends the tournament results, the system will calculate the expected position for every player using the results from previous tournaments. If the actual position of the player is equal or better than the expected one, his ITS Rating will go up. If the actual position is lower than the expected, his ITS Rating will go down. The greater the difference between the expected and the actual positions, the greater will be the modification.
Who will be able to stay on top?
TOURNAMENT TIERS
One of the most asked features for this new season was to add some variety to the Army Listsā Points for tournament. Our response is the Tournament Tier.
To keep the organized structured that brought the last season but give some liberty to organizers, there will be 3 Tournament Tiers:
Low-Tier: The smallest of the tournament tiers is perfect for introducing the ITS to new players. In this Tier, players have up to 200 Points and 4 SWC allowance for their Army Lists. This Tournament Tier is more indulgent with new players, so itās outcome will have a lesser impact on their ITS Rating.
Mid-Tier: This is the standard level known by most of the players: 300 Points and 6 SWC allowance.
Top-Tier: This tier will test veteran players and allow them to deploy more miniatures in the table. In the Top-Tier, army Lists have 400 Points and 8 SWC allowance. This Tountament Tier is ruthless, but also offers a greater reward for the ITS Rating.
NEW FORMATS
During the last season there were two Tournament Formats. In ITS 2014 there will be a total of five different Tournament Formats.
STANDARD TOURNAMENT
The classic format for four or more players playing one versus one games along three or more tournament rounds.
SPEC OPS TOURNAMENT
Last seasonās great success. In this format, players are allowed to include one Spec Ops with 12 Experience Points in their Army Lists.
SHOWDOWNS TOURNAMENT
For express tournaments. In this format there is only one tournament round. Perfect for mid-week tournaments or even to let every game count towards yout ITS Rating combining it with a Mini Tournament Pack.
CAMPAIGN TOURNAMENT
This new format adds the Campaign Rules introduced in Campaign: Paradiso to the tournament. After each tournament round, players can use the Objective Points gathered to improve their army lists or their Spec Ops.
JOINT OPERATIONS TOURNAMENT
Tournament for pairs! This format is perfect to let the veteran players help the newcomers. There are two different modes: every team shares their turn or alternate turns for each player.
All these new formats are compatible with the current Tournament Packs. You only have to choose!
ITS ESCALATION LEAGUES
Leagues are one of the best ways to support the game in a community. Players play against each other along 8 jorneys, beginning with very reduced lists (just 120 Army Points), perfect for beginners, and raising the bar little by little until playing ITS Scenarios with 300 Points.
As leagues are official ITS events, the results for each journey will modify the ITS Rating for each players but, as leagues are designed primarily for beginners, this modification will be very low (even lower than Low-Tier Tournaments). The best way to begin with Infinity and prepare for ITS Tournaments.
To organize an ITS Escalation League organizers just need a League Pack. From the beginnign of the season there will be availables the following League Pack models:
L0001 ā CLASSIC LEAGUE PACK (44,95ā¬):
A pack with prizes and an exclusive miniature for the winner.
Contents:
1 Winner Pack (1 exclusive miniature, 2 limited edition pins and a resin base from Micro Arts Studio).
8 Diplomas, one for the winner of each journey.
1 Limited edition patch
2 Random patches

2 Random Blisters
4 Posters.
10 Random pins.
10 Illustration cards.

L0002 ā LOWCOST LEAGUE PACK (29,95ā¬):
The economic alternative to the Classic League Pack, without the exclusive miniature.
Contents:
8 Diplomas, one for the winner of each journey.
1 Limited edition patch
2 Random patches

For the organizers that want to put their own prizes. This pack is completely virtual and delivered by email, avoiding shipping costs.
Contents:
8 ITS Codes, one for the results of each journey.
We will release more details very soon. Stay connected!
Ah nice, other than the silly looking heels that female bounty hunter is a rather nice model, would be a great Sarah Kerrigan model to put amongst the new Tyranids
You can always ask the winner of the tournament, if he's willing to sell the model. Hunt the e-bay perhaps? The 3D model looks nice, Nomad weapon aside.
...except the ELO ranking system. Looks like it raises the bar for the best players, essentially introducing a curve effect that will make it ever-harder for them to pull ahead of the pack, the better they have done to date. Is that correct? Dunno if I like that.
No game uses the same Elo system. Roughly speaking it's a system that measures your (my emphasis) current skill. Finer systems use Elo decay, showing that your Elo is lower in case of a period of inactivity. Finally after a period of time the system is reset. This is done to eliminate the data that are having no relevance (inactive players) and to get clearer picture of the system.
In case of a reset, your Elo ranking is decreased (or increased) by some magical formula that not all companies share publicly. Typically it just compares your Elo with the average of the system and then subtracts or adds some numbers.
Well... Looks like you guys need a chillax post.
Tournament Tiers are just about adding options that the players asked us to introduce into the ITS. That has been the (second) most requested change during 2013, so we delivered a way to let organizers set their tournaments to lower and higher points. (Yes, the top most requested had to do with Emergency Transmission ).
About the rewards... I understand your fears. Some of you have nightmares about CB becoming "evil" and changing our practices to get more of your money sacrificing the quality of the game because that's what you've seen in the past with other companies. Don't fear. We are talking about a 15% bonus and very low point quantities for each tournament.
As I said in the announcement, the system calculates the expected position for every player and then compares it to the actual position reported by the organizer. What does that mean? That means that if you were expected to end up 10th and you end up 9th your ITS Rating will go up, but if you were expected to end up 1st and you end up 2nd, your ITS Rating will go down.
The most important factor when calculating the ITS Rating reward is the size of the event. Actually, the same player with the exact same results will win more points in a Low-Tier 14 player standard tournament (+11.9 maximum) than in a Top-Tier 10 player standard tournament (+11.5 maximum). And let me insist: that's a maximum. To win that quantity you must be the expected loser of the tournament but end up 1st.
About 400 points games: try them and then decide. As you can see, you don't need to play Top-Tier events to win the ITS, so just play the format you enjoy the most. In the end, Infinity is just a game, and games are meant to be fun.
Hooray for Emergency Transmission. I don't think any of us had any fun playing it.
There are three "tiers" of ITS tournament games going into the next season. Tiers one and two are the accepted 200 and 300 respectively. There is a new third tier of 400pt games and people are thinking CB is possessed by the spirit of GW or something.
What amazed me is the amount of negative feedback on the official forums. We all know game plays differently at different point levels, though I share the frustration at the thought of facing warband spam. It's something that can happen below 400 points. I feel CB will eventually respond, if it becomes the problem. Yet, I remain optimistic. I have no idea how to run my Acontecimento at 400 but I'm sure my regular MO and CA opponents have already made few interesting lists.

ISS player here beggin very much to differ. Warband spam will become even more common like Knight says, perhaps balanced by an extra Total Reaction unit or two to protect that larger order base.
On the upside, I bet we see a LOT more TAGs, which is usually fun.
Also my 5-man Hsien team will finally see the light of day, woot!

Warband spam can happen at any points, its not a dire thing that only 400 points will bring, the fact that we do not see them at least regularly is a testament of its effectiveness.
Bipandra is not available for Aconticemento though, which Knight mentioned as playing.
What is very strange is that she is available for the Military Orders and NeoTerra but not ASA.
Ah, she's a Fusilier. I can field her in the general force, should have enough of other models to build 300 - 400 list. I'd love to know how her medikit works with Doctor skill. It's nothing critical, especially with December being typically slow month for gaming. I'll try to play a game at 400 points on 6'x4'. I'm hoping CB will publish new scenarios in the next 7-10 days.

CB say 4 new ITS mission should be added by the end of the year, and the current ones rewriting for a total of 9 mission.
As for hordes on a proper set up table, not to light or heavy on terrain you should be able to thin the out, just like at 300pts.
I'm not worried about warband spam, though that's me being biased because I don't think my group would ever really do it.
I am, however, interested in it because, as said earlier, it should make TAGs more common. I love the TAG models and is disappoints me to see them so underused, at least in my area.

Okay, quite right about 400 points being no different for warband spam. Good point. But I seriously disagree with your "warband spam is not effective because we don't see it a lot" statement.
Being a guy who regularly fields 8-Kuang Shi lists with a ton of nasties riding those cheap orders, I actually do see a lot of effectiveness thanks to warband spam. Pretty much everytime I do it, in fact.
The main reason that you don't see a lot of warband spam isn't that it's ineffective: in fact it's totally killer and potentially game-unbalancing.
The main reason you don't see warband spam is that Infinity players are generally nice people who don't build lists to exploit weaknesses in the rules. We know warband spam is powerful, but choose not to do it so that things stay fun. Just like PanO players don't field the Cutter in every single non-sectorial list they ever bring.
Fortunately Infinity players, unlike many 40K players, play the game to tell a cool story during their matches, and to let their opponent have fun too- not just to game the rules and win on technicalities. That's why I love Infinity!
And warband spam definitely does exploit a weakness in the order-pool mechanic, especially if your warbands are regular. They end up super-powering some serious ramboing from a harder unit, like Su Jians backed by Kuang Shi. With 5-point warband support, you can do that with at least two, mutually-supporting, rambos. And/or engineers keeping those rambos up and running, using a separate order group to do so. Facing such a list and going second, you are probably doomed unless you can castle like a mofo (which is a basic survival skill in Infinity, but surviving 2 simultaneous 9-order TAG or HI attacks is pretty damned impossible). If ISS had an actual TAG, their regular warbands would be broken. Fortunately the designers seem to have seen that and prevented it.
Irregular warband spam is less powerful, granted (just on a par with other powerful things like AD and TAGs, heavy camo, etc.). But regular-order warbands actually do break the game IMO.
Also, 20-30 models is a total pain both the to play and to play against: it takes a long time to move them, and ARO checks on your opponent's turn take FOREVER. So you're not only gaming the rules with warband spam, you're also hogging the table while you do it. Most Infinity players are too considerate to do this. Maybe once in a while for a lark like you might do HGL (this game is fun with "extreme" lists fielded occasionally to keep the meta-game guesswork fresh), but not on a regular basis.
I've been "that guy" that did warband spam before just for kicks, and while I did very well with the horde lists, I felt like a jerk for taking up 3/4ths of the table time and exploiting the order-pool mechanic.
I still play 16+-model lists (ISS and JSA) fairly regularly, but when I do so I speed through my orders and try not to rambo the crap out of most opponents. Oh, maybe except the guys in my group who will stomp me if I take it easy on them
I respect your opinion about rules balance PS, but warn you not to assume that player/tourney meta means that rules exploits aren't there. Remember that your fellow players may just be too nice to break the game ona regular basis
You have chosen 1 of 2 extremely cheap units that provide regular orders to build your argument around, neither of which are particularly spammable except for in the pair of sectorials they appear in.
I'd argue the reason people aren't spamming "warbands" like the ones you postulate they would isn't that they are too nice, but rather that only a small fraction of the player base are playing the armies necessary to do so.
People aren't and won't spam impetuous irregular warbands out the wazoo except in rare occasions because it's simply not practical, and that's what warbands are for the majority of forces.

...and if this were 40K everyone would suddenly be playing those armies (Caledonians and ISS), and yes you would see warband spam all over, just like you saw Grey Knights all over at one point. All you would have to do is buy the army (and paint it, which is another metagame barrier). Again, players of Infinity aren't jerks, so they're not all buying the army that breaks the game. In other words, they're too nice. You and I are actually arguing the same point, Drunkspleen
Doesn't change my core argument: warband spam exploits a hole in the mechanics. You don't see it much for metagame reasons (nice players who both won't exploit it in general, and who won't buy an army just to use the exploit). If Infinity players weren't generally upstanding folks, there would be an issue with the rules that might affect how fun things like tourneys would be. Fortunately Infinity attracts a higher caliber of player than 40K, IMHO.
Also, no need for quotes around warbands. It's a troop type and movement category in-game, not something someone on a forum made up.
No offense but doesn't this belong in the Infinity Forum, not the News and Rumors? This whole discussion has nothing to do with either news or rumors which is what I'm looking for.

You're right, sorry!
We were originally discussing how the changes to the tourney formats (points allowance) might affect game balance. PsychoticStorm's right, they won't. Then I tangented, sorry
We don't see Warband Spam in this game because nobody is willing to BUY 34 Pretas or 25 Galwegian miniatures.
We don't see that kind of competitiveness in ITS because Infinity has not reach that level yet. Infinity is not yet a hugely popular game, with popularity competitiveness will come. Once the USA gaming scene becomes competitive with Infinity, many "grey areas" will appear in the rules.
IMHO, right now the basic core rulebook is not ready for bringing the game into a competitive scene.
By the way... I would prefer not to see Infinity becoming a competitive game, with ultra-competitive players. Rules are still too fragile for that.
Also, I've been having so much fun in tournaments and there was such a good atmosphere, good will and love for the game that I really don't want it ruined by "smart guys" coming with an Avatar and 32 Pretas, really.

Yeah, hopefully.
The point was more that her profiles are practically identical. The only difference is assault pistols on Covert Action and Pistol, APCCW+MSV1on SAS Operative. If only they had modeled her with her shotgun instead of assault pistols for Covert Action.

A third one is not necessary, but the first one needed a resculpt soooooo bad. I've been waiting for this a lot of time. Now I hope the new mini won't suck
Yeah, hopefully.

And the cammo in the SAS version Vs the Specialist Troop skill in the Covert Action version. Is one of the oldest characters, and the new profile is a consecuence of the campaign system and the mission objetives. The character is the favourite of the CEO, so I don't see CB eliminating one of the versions.
Having the shotgun would have made it much easier to proxy, yep.

Whoa - potentially a very expensive month for me there!
Bear in mind that if that list is correct, the Celestial Guard are repacks not resculpts. Not aimed at you Alph, but just want to ensure people realize that this is likely going to signal the existing blisters going away for the Celestial Guard.
I'm really excited for Stephen Rao and the MAF starter.
I think sooner than that because of next week being Christmas, but it is dependent upon how fast the blogosphere gets their acts together. Corvus Belli does not really undercut their exclusives with the official previews.
Sangarn wrote: I play PanO general list and I dont see any use of Rao, he is just a sitting target practice
He's either a cheap lieutenant with good WIP or serves as a decoy while the real lieutenant - Knight of Holy Sepulchre moves into position. I wonder in how many pieces the model will be build. I'm hoping for an easy Spec Op conversion.

This makes me wonder if they're going to discontinue the Morat Vanguard Infantry blisters. I guess I'll have to grab them the next time I go to Brookhurst.
I'm curious to see the new character models in the next release. Uxia could be good, if they don't give her a derpy pose. I wonder if Rao is going ot have a helmet?
The CG box will be good for YJ players, and even though you may not use the sniper much (even in links, non-camo snipers never do it for me except on special open tables), she's super fun to paint. What I do really like there is the special-weapon troops being what makes up the box, rather than generics with one special weapon max thrown in.
Usually I am among the first to comment about some of Infinity T.A.G.s' rediculous codpiece designs, but this time around I haven't spotted any weirdness yet.
Here's a still image from MWG for those who do not want to sit through the video.
It's not bad, so much better than the previous "exclusive" offerings. The only thing that is just a "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat" is the fact that she has a base extension.
The top is the Morat starter box (a sectorial/sub-army of Combined Army) and the bottom is the TAG for Tohaa. Both should hopefully be coming out shortly in a month or two.

Her visor looks like the one Nessaie Alke has and her base grants enough space to fit the recently deceased former owner of the nomad sniper rifle on it. Chandra potential detected. Must convert.
Sorry to bring this back from a few pages ago (although that was in less than 2 weeks!) but do we have any idea when this might go up for sale? I.e., are things that are previewed being painted like this always on sale within 3 months, or sometimes longer / less, etc?

Going to try my best to cover it all real quick...
Combined Army: Collection of alien races out to destroy/ensalve humanity ruled by the Evolved Intelligence, like an alien AI.
Morat: Monkey warrior race that makes me think of Predators from the movie/comics that is a part of the Combined Army.
Sectorial: Themed sub-army that's part of a bigger umbrella army.
Tohaa: bio-engineering alien race that has been fighting the Combined Army and is manipulating the Humans to fight them to get a brief reprieve from fighting.
TAG: Stands for Tactical Armor Gear, usually a mecha style suit with a single pilot/operator. Think Appleseed Anime/Manga, Bubblegum Crises or the Cyclones from Robotech.

It will probably go up for preorder next week or the week after.
When it will actually be in stock? That's a different case entirely.
Generally we get previews the month of release/preordering.

Yes I suppose the Jem'Haddar are quite similar to Klingons, except they have the other similarity with the sinister, ruling alien elite controlling them (Changelings in DS9, the EI in Infinity).

Angel Giraldez made a statement today that starting in 2014, he will begin painting exclusively for Corvus Belli. He'll still work with Vallejo and do items for collectors(but won't accept commissions? not sure how exactly that works), but Corvus Belli will be the only company he will paint for.
Kind of a big deal and definitely Infinity related news.
Here's his statement from Facebook:
I would like to announce that in 2014 I will be exclusive painter of corvus belli ( Infinity)
This mean that I will not paint miniatures for other companies.
I will continue with my work with Acrylicos Vallejo and painting for collectors (still do not accept commissions).
I made Studio Giraldez in 2007 and over the years I worked for many companies.

Spoiler is a list of all the companies he's done work for.
It could also be that Giraldez wants a break in his life.
I remember that in the beginning of 2013, he stated publicly that he was swamped with projects and couldn't take anymore commissions. Perhaps the uprise in popularity of Infinity has allowed him to earn a well-deserved raise and he doesn't need other commissions to ensure a livelihood.
As it stands, he seemed to only consistently do work for Corvus Belli and Cipher Studios recently, anyways.
I got to chat to one of the developers from CB last year. He said they will be sat in the same room as Angel while he is painting, and he will just be chatting and looking over his shoulder, and in the other hand an Infinity mini that will be painted to the studio standard.. apparently he can just knock them out really fast (which, I find massively depressing and dispiriting )
Perhaps good news in that
- CB are doing well, and can afford to pay him more to work more hours.
- They might ramp up the release schedule (although, I hope they don't do this too much! I already have a hard time keeping up).
Okay so now that we have images posted, I can discuss!
The posing and style remind me of the "Hunters" from Halo. I'm really curious if it is physically piloted by a Tohaa or if the Symbiont Armor is actually its own organism with some kind of linkage to a Tohaa elsewhere.

It is piloted, it goes from a TAG to a LI. But, I guess it stays the same size ?
RiTides wrote: Does the small model come with it? Is it a controller / pilot? I don't know about Tags, forgive my ignorance.
It comes with it. It's essentially the "pilot". Tohaa work a little differently than other armies and the Chaksa model (the little guy) is essentially the Gorgos that has shed its armor.
As with the Anaconda, the pilot of TAGs (if applicable) seem to be included in the boxed set.

The chaksa is actually a g-synced unit that is included with the Gorgos. Its the tohaa equivalent of an auxbot.

That's what I was thinking. When the Gorgos loses the Symbiont Armour you still use the big model, don't you? And the chaksa is an independent model, not a replacement.

Yes, it has no ejection system, so the pilot isn't released when it is destroyed (like the Iguana, which comes with an ejected pilot), Inactive symbiont armour is just signified with a marker.
IJW wrote: The release schedule has already been ramped up - we still get 4-5 releases each month but more of them are box sets instead of blisters.
I think that is more because of the shift toward boxed sets in general with blisters for special weapons and low AVA units/unlinkable models.
That's what I meant. We get the same number of releases but the number of models contained in those releases has gone up. I assume Angel Giraldez' move to working solely for CB is related to this.
Very cool!
The only point of criticism would be the pose on the TAG. I constantly complain about some of the exaggerated poses and vote for more believable poses, but this is the other extreme. It's just a tiny bit to static and casual for me.
No big deal of course and easily converted, so should I ever get into Tohaa...
Definitely think a few more people will be picking up the Tohaa now that guy is released, it's almost like the TAG is the sign of a faction being significant, if you get my meaning... Just waiting for that Ariadna TAG now..

Gonna be waiting a long time then.
Ariadna getting the Anaconda was a surprise as Corvus Belli has been pretty stalwart in saying that Ariadna would not be able to field TAGs in any kind of huge quantity.
I guess the Anaconda kind of lets them skirt that line as it is a primitive TAG and it is technically owned and operated by a mercenary force supplied and equipped by the Black Hand of the Nomad Nation.
Kanluwen wrote: Personally I'm imagining that cityscape with shattered walls, creepers and vines overgrowing it and parts being reclaimed by a swamp.
You have to share if you do that. I'm just tired how boxy a lot of the terrain feels. Buildings are square and rectangles, a decent amount have rounded edges and these just feel like boxes instead of buildings to me.
I can kind of make out the Oznat in there. At least from what I can tell of the blobby, fuzzy shapes, it doesn't look like anyone is too weirdly posed. I'm still hoping that the Sogarat is sculpted with the Fuerebach and is in a braced firing stance.
Alpharius wrote: I'm actually surprised we haven't been given the "December release" previews yet!
I'm not.
Bostria made an announcement on the Spanish forums about how the releases will come on the "later days of the month", as there is still one gaming website with previews which has not done it(Team Covenant).
This's rather depressing. I've been having problems with specialists before, now I don't know what to do. I'm sure anyone that can field Paramedic AD will field it. No cost to SWC and only few points upgrade, adding SK specialists...
The scattered boxed scenarios made me particularly angry as that scenario kills my double groups I loved to play. I'm afraid I have no interest in playing new scenarios.
Knight wrote: The scattered boxed scenarios made me particularly angry as that scenario kills my double groups I loved to play. I'm afraid I have no interest in playing new scenarios.
Did I miss something in the mission? Looks like another Order-hungry mission where two full groups is a big advantage to me.

I just see this as catching up to the armies that already have AD or Infiltrating specialists available; it evens the field a bit more. It also helps those armies that have problems with fielding enough specialists period (and whose existing specialist choices are kinda pointsinks, like Ariadna (defensive hacking device and Irmandinhos are not very good compared to Nomads' AD engineers and the like).
Also IMO anything that gets more medics on the field makes games more interesting and realistic, as opposed to the ruthless headlong rushes into death that games without medics simulate.
The scattered boxed scenarios made me particularly angry as that scenario kills my double groups I loved to play. I'm afraid I have no interest in playing new scenarios.
I'm with IJW, confused about why you would say that. Are you seeing something in the scenario rules that we're not? As a guy who plays 2-order-group ISS or JSA a lot, I'm usually on the look out for anything that hampers hordes- and I fail to see any problems here. In fact this scenario looks like it will favor those lists with tons of orders.
Aaaaaaand I just noticed that there are no more Lieutenant specialists in the missions.
That's a -really- big change. While removing TAG specialists is perhaps better for balance, that also removes many really cool specialist choices (Oniwaban specialists, HI specialists, etc. etc.). Not sure I support that... couldn't they have just ruled that TAGs are not specialists?
And watch, PanO or Nomads are going to get a TAG that sports its own hacking device...
Automatically Appended Next Post: I do hope it's PanO. However once I've "finished" (got to a playable level) my PanO I play on doing a Nomad army anyway...
Automatically Appended Next Post: As long as it looks cool I don't really care who gets it!

Supply Boxes can only be Destroyed by DA, EXP, K1 or Viral Special Ammunition.
This is a huge problem. The cheapest SWC type of weapon I can field is Guarda de Assalto at 50 points and 0.5 SWC, other weapons that are lighter on points are typically included in the link to stall the enemy. ASA in particular has a lot of SWC drain, please don't try to suggest double Machinists. I've tried them and they are a waste of points for what they offer you. MO is perhaps the best PanO sectorial for this scenario, infiltrating TO specialist, Konstantinos and Brethren with Multi rifle. It's just frustrating to know you'd need to deal with a composition like this, while the opponent will just look at your end and see how you intend to approach the game.
ISS is in a better spot. I imagine the next time I face my regular ISS guy the Dakini and Sforza will be present.
Those Morat are absolutely, god-damned awesome. Think that probably has to be the best starter set in the range, I just don't know where to start heaping on the praise.
Stephan Rao also looks suitably bad-ass, and again what a paintjob.
Uxia looks nice, big improvement on the previous miniature.
A little bit of 'tiny head syndrome', but still most excellent.
I can see that but it does make me wonder if thinking that is a by product of heroic scale miniatures in other ranges setting a perceived scale image in our mind. I also wonder how big their heads actually are under all that hair... now I just had a thought of painting the Morats up like Lions with their big manes. I can't wait till I have these guys in hand to see if the feeling that their heads are slightly out of scale remains after scrunity.
From the looks of it, the Morats bodies overall are much larger than a human's body while their heads are the same size. Most of the Morats are having difficulty staying on their bases and are rather tall; not even the bulky hulking superhuman (supertohaa?) Chaksa are even as big as a standard Morat Vanguard Infantryman.
WOW! Looks like I will be starting a Morat force after all! Uxia is pretty sweet, but my goodness I am totally blown away by Rao! I really want re-sculpts of the Bagh Mari and Akalis now!!
Makes me want to dump all of my other game systems and just focus solely on Infinity!!
Not seeing the issue with the head size? They certainly don't look out of proportion.
For me, these are some of the coolest looking miniatures released this year, and 2 days before the end of 2013. If you had a visual-dictionary, that Tempest Regiment miniature would be under the entry for B, 'bad-ass'. And the level of detail on that miniature, you have to shake your head and remember this is at 28mm scale.
Kan has yet to post, and I can only assume that's because he's logged on to look at this thread, seen the Morat starter set and literally just exploded.
Is that OTT enough yet? As I'm sure you can tell, I was looking forward to that Morat set far too much to be healthy, and it has managed to live up to the expectations. 'A' fething plus, I absolutely love them.
Morat box looks great. Love the new direction they're taking with them. Sogarat looks absolutely brutal. Only complaint is the similar posing of the Vanguard Infantry. It looks like 3 consecutive snap-shots of a single model. Surveying - reacting - charging. I would have loved a more shooty pose. Either way, this is a must for me.
I was looking forward to the Morat the most, but I honestly need to see larger/better pictures of the Vanguard heads to be sure what to think of the faces & hair.
Right now it looks like someone dropped a bucket of water on their heads and hit them with the shrink ray at the same time (not a good design direction Imo).
Oh my god! Those all look amazing! I see nothing here that I don't like, except maybe the CG box since I already bought the hacker separately.
I am so glad that the Morat box doesn't have any stupid poses. It's a bit disappointing that the Vanguard Infantry aren't actually aiming their guns, but that's really not a big deal. I'm really glad that the Sogarat is actually posed in a braced firing stance with the Fuerebach. That is a damn cool looking figure. Raktorak looks pretty badass, too. The new armor and weapon designs for them are especially cool looking.
I do wonder though, what can I run the old Vanguard Infantry as? Light Infantry?
Definitely liking the ariadna female mini...nice realistic combat pose without the Eli's factor. The morat guys though are indeed rockin' the Thrudd the barbarian heads though. The bruiser with the biggest gun is quite well done as well. 2014 is soon approaching...geckos on 1/1/14??
O-M-F-G I have no words for the Morat Starter pack. Vanguards are very cool, but the Sogarat is the epitome of badassery. The Raktorak and the Oznat are really beatiful too. I don't want to start (well, BUY) another force... but I can't dodge that blow to my wallet.
And UxĆa... ah, madre del amor hermoso, she's PERFECT! I like her even better than the Covert Actions version!
Aaaan the other models are very cool too, there isn't a single one that I dislike. But OMG... Morats and UxĆa...
I do wonder though, what can I run the old Vanguard Infantry as? Light Infantry?
I was thinking the same thing.
The old guys are going to look weird next to these awesome beasts!
I don't think too weird... actually, the new guys makes me want to finish out my Vanguard collection of the old stuff to put it by the new to have light and medium looking versions. Well played CB, well played... my CA have been collecting dust and this just invigorates me to focus on them again. I'm not even bothered by the higher price for this box, just look at the size of those pieces.
Uxia is nice. I still would have liked Jacques Bruant or Scots-Guard, but whatever. Great sculpt with a bit of motion and dynamic going to her.
Rao is nice. Would like a helmeted or hooded version but eh. Headswaps are doable if the sculpt is right. What's really nice is that he looks to be a "new design" of Bagh-Mari.
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATS!
Like all of them. This is going to be my brother's birthday present in May.

Purple (armor) and grey (pants/cloth) are my main colors for my Combined army so I'm pleased to see these to get an idea of how to do the new guys; the guy seems incomplete at the moment.

At least now I can feel glad about not having started to paint my CA yet - I can paint the older Morats to match this new scheme, which should help to tie them all together better and minimize any jarring differences.
Maybe!
NoggintheNog wrote: I like the purple better I think, it would also seem from that he airbrushes quite a bit of these models.
I wish there were details, but sadly that was a joke.
I would not be surprised to see something similar with the next book though. After all things are supposed to Get RealĀ® since the Acheron Blockade is going to be breached.
Rules for "getting real" in Infinity: On turn 8, all models remaining on the table are destroyed by orbital bombardment. "Did you complete your objective yet?"
While I am a Morat fan and like most of the new look, I dislike the new simplified look of the bare red faces that IMHO look bland with their humanized mouth and hair compared to the old faces.
I think the new faces are not simplified and would argue that the old faces with no lower jaw are a simplified version of the mouths from the art of the Morat found in the first rule book. Perhaps we should wait till we have the models in hand to determine how human like the lips are because they look a bit flat, just not as squiggly lined.
Hasn't much to do with early or late sculpts resp. old and new concepts:
All previous models and concepts share the flat forehead, the non-human mouth, the orcish nose and the non-human hair. With this box, Morat changed from Space Apes to Space Santas.

I disagree with this a bit, but either why I think this discussion should be moved to the proper sub-forum instead of the news and rumor thread if we wish to continue.
Those Morat are frakkin' amazing! They're big, chunky, and look like they mean some serious business. And the femal Morat is awesome as well - I'm loving the Preta crest on her helmet! Thank goodness I'm going to be painting them on commission or else I would've gone out and bought them for myself.

According to Infinity O-12 we're looking at this release schedule for January:
Ariadna box
Combined Army blister
ALEPH blister
These three interest me the most; any hints yet as to what sectorials these releases belong to?
With ALEPH it's pretty much guaranteed to be something Steel Phalanx.
Combined Army it might be a Malignos with Combi Rifle as apparently the current Combined Army "starter box" is being discontinued, which is the only place to get the Malignos with Combi Rifle.
Ariadna has been on a bit of a Caledonian kick this past year, so it most likely is the Scots-Guard(1st Battalion) boxed set. Supposedly we're going to see models, eventually, representing both 1st(Linkable) and 2nd(Camo) Battalions. The current Missile Launcher guy has specifically been mentioned as being 2nd Battalion, with a more sneaky look to him while still looking very Caledonian.
Alternative is a Metro repack box.

Maybe I should just hand my gaming budget for 2014 to CB now as they seem to have their hearts set on it with all that they are releasing... Wonder if I can keep myself to Infinity and terrain only this year.
Oh no, I've waited too long between infinity purchases. Will never catch up to all this awesome.
Must have uxia. What a great model and not quite as cheesy as the earlier one. Shes a welcome addition to the ariadna spec ops style sculpts.
The Morats really impressed me. I like the new faces and the armor, the heavy weapon dude is just nuts. Is he the biggest Morat model now? Glad they put a helmet on the female though, that monkey lady face might have ruined the effect on the sculpt
I much preferred the old Morat look, but I'm loving how much more detailed the new ones are, so I'm torn. Even though they lack the detail, I still think the old Morats are fantastic models and may end up mixing and matching.
Thinking they'll probably become deadzone Orx/Marauders since I've been far more successful drumming up deadzone interest than Infinity and although I like the Deadzone figs, they can't hold a candle to the Corvus Belli minis.
Loki - not sure if it will be the Sekban yet as I'm sure I remember reading previously that they were some way off? Although, that may have been some time ago now, and I'd love to be proven wrong!
Thinking I had seen the female Morat before, then I remembered the art book that is sat in front of me
Tiny heads, details for the sake of it, all other released morats look like another race in comparison with these new ones... I think these totally missed the target and have little to no character to them... not even mentioning the boring poses of the rifle guys.
Nope to me these broke the morat range look and do no fit.
The female is very cool though.
All the rest of the releases are top stuff as usual.
I like the new evolution, I do not think they have tiny helms, but think they have more suit buildup around the neck, that been said, I really do not like Oznat, great model, but I would like her suit up like everybody else.
Well Navarro, you are entitled to your opinion, even when it's quite clearly wrong ;D
I do think it's difficult to re-imagine this kind of thing though. The original concept would have had its fans - I liked the original Morat guys, but they were some of the early sculpts and I think starting to show their age (you can see most in terms of the proportions). The other Morat releases over the past few years have been closer to these conceptually, and many are masked so should still fit as part of the same team.
I quite like the Oznat, she looks like some kind of alien warrior priestess (although not sure what the background is for them, and if that fits!)
Well the new Morats have certainly been eating their bananas.
I personally am not a fan of the new ones. Looks like I should stock up on the old versions. In a skirmish game like this, it is not such a big deal to have different versions of units. Some people can get the new ones, while others can get the old ones. Also given the diversity of the army, it is not a major problem to have units that are not identical.
I just saw the price for the Morat starter box..... 44,95 (euro).
That is 8,- up from the usual price for starter boxes (36,95), and even though I will still buy this one it is quite disappointing to see CB pull a bit of a GW on us.
And yes the Sogarat is a slightly bigger model, but that doesn't equal eight euros Imo.
it is quite disappointing to see CB pull a bit of a GW on us.
If CB had pulled a GW on you they would raise the price of all starters to be costed at the price of this starter and not price an individual starter slightly more because it has a higher production cost.

That is not how GW operates anymore. Instead of one yearly raise for (nearly) everything they now raise prices every new release, which is exactly what happened here.
