Oh man I totally miss having a good group of folks to play with... or at least consistent ones... for WoW. Buddies I started the game with moved on to other things, I keep coming back but its been tough finding folks to consistently play with. There was a California group I played with which came close to being consistent but then I moved and it was hard to get back on track once I was playing again.
Ashiraya wrote: Come over to the greener pastures, djphranq! I am pretty sure Americans can play on EU servers and vice versa if they use the appropriate client.
Yeah, although the subscription you pay will only work for the EU servers and not the NA servers.
Damn this game can be infuriating, so much so that I let one of my groups die because they sucked so much. They were still fairly new but having trouble in the starting area (Ruins) is annoying as hell.
Also ending up in a position where your full roster is stressed to almost max and having no gold to reduce it really sucks.
Still playing FIFA 16.... and something keeps coming up that is bugging the gak out of me:
So, every transfer period that comes up, my player is bombarded with offers to switch clubs. I rather like the club I'm playing for, I don't really want to leave, even if the deal is "too good to be true." I've looked pretty much everywhere I can think, and thus far when it comes to transfer options the only option I have is to ask for one.
In short, it's pissing me off that I cannot ask to NOT be transfered
Well to be fair, in the last one, she did go from 'oh god, I had to kill one of them, I had no choice' to 'I'll kill every last one of you, you bastards!' over the cause of one game! This is just the natural progression.
Can't wait to play the new one at some point, it looks amazing (and I was pretty blown away by the last one, despite never having played a TR game before).
The new one is a bit of a retread of the first game, but nothing too annoying so far. It's the same semi open world experience as before, but with more stuff added in.
Also, it's pretty obvious that she's got some severe PTSD from the first game, not to mention other issues. She's quite cold-blooded, as seen with the steatlh kills she pulls off.
No more "I'm so sorry!" but instead cold silence while staring daggers into the eyes of her latest victim, John Wick style.
Did the tutorial, then a mini zombie defense map with one other AI character, then a defense map with some sort of sci-fi type enemy and with real players. At first I thought it was aliens. Then 'commando's started showing up but they didn't look human... then huge dudes with flamethrowers and power mauls and riot shields came in towards the later waves. It was exciting. They even gave me a couple free mech suits to try out (one light, one medium). I didn't try them out yet though.
Also finished up the campaign of Dawn of War Dark Crusade I started the other day. Played as Imperial Guard. So now I've beaten the campaign with Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, and Imperial Guard. I might try again but as Necrons.
Picked up Space Marine in the steam sale last week.
Darn its fun. Very darn fun.
Sure its not particularly deep gameplay and is quite linear but the combat mechanics and mini set piece battles really draw you in. Its controlled chaos at times.
And to be fair they got a very good feel and theme for the setting/background.
The traps, sure, but I was talking about the several hundred or so circular saws just lying around the town. I mean, the only way to use them as a weapon is with the gravity gun, and Grigori doesn't have one of them, so...
It's not an important thing at all, just something I wondered about.

I'm still salty that Fire Emblem: Fates is coming out 4 MONTHS later to the UK. Why. It's like they think importing it is cheap.
I'm salty XCOM 2 is PC only....
...yet. Given the quite good sales on iOS, it's likely going to be cross-platform sooner than you can yell "WHERE THE HELL DID THAT ALIEN JUST COME FROM?".
BrookM wrote: I love my shotgun, in execution mode she shoves it under the chin of the victim PMC and blows his brains out.
Spoiler:
I also got a new gadget, the rebreather!
Now, what would be the best application of this device?
To investigate certain tombs?
Boring! This game isn't about raiding tombs..
It's about killing as many PMC's as possible in true slasher style! That's more like it, now they can't hide anywhere from her.
Well that's rather... dark. Was Lara Voorhees this cold in the last game?
Yes, well towards the end of the game she was pushed past her own moral horizon and while she didn't take joy in it, she didn't shirk away from it either. Each weapon got a pair of execution-style animations for taking out incapacitated enemies. The SMG had her empty half a clip into the guy at point-blank range while the pistol had her put it up against the head of the guy and blowing his brains out, John Wick style.
That said, I love the game. Not just because you get to play as the Slasher movie antagonist, but also because of the exploration and whatnot. I've got a feeling this will be a game I'll gladly 100% before moving on.
I'm getting near the end of Dragon Age: The Descent DLC. - The epic music has just started, I've done all the collections (though I do have the distinct feeling I've not explored every unlocked location though...)
And, well... This thought is really starting to nag at me...
They said the immortal guardians of the lost city knew no fear. They are said to be unbeaten, having bested the mongols, the russians and now, the mercenaries.
Unbeaten, until the arrival of Lara Voorhees.. (SkavenLord, I'm so using this now! )
Seriously though, even the regular mooks speak of her in awe, describing her as being a worthy opponent instead of just a nuisance. "She survived the island? Well gak, we had a bad enough time cleaning it up and she was there by herself?" Not ten seconds later the guard wanders off, not knowing that he is being stalked and will soon be introduced to the business end of a combat knife.
Second mission back into XCOM:EN, and I think I've already found a cool moment. The team was escorting a scientist, but to get to the rendezvous point, they had to hunker down in a building. The team's sniper was supposed to give them cover fire from the roof, while the rest of the team made a slow advance to the point. Problem was, when the sniper arrived on the roof, there was already an alien there. There was a whole sniping duel between the sniper and the lone alien, while underneath, the rest of the team were keeping the aliens at bay. Eventually, while pretty injured, the sniper came out victorious, and started to kill all of the remaining aliens that were assailing the building on his own.
Congrats on the promotion, Corporal De Gaulle
Always been a fan of the idea behind the games but as a youngster I wasn't a fan of turn based strategy. I've mellowed on that lately but not enough to pay full price for a game I might not enjoy. Thanks Lunar New Year sale! Complete pack for $16us seemed absurd so I grabbed it.
Was having a lot of fun with EU over the weekend and wasn't playing EW because I didn't realise it was basically a content pack for the base game. I was expecting a more traditional mini sequel type expansion. But I made some mistakes in EU I wanted to correct, so I might as well restart tonight with EW.
Just finished XCom 2. Very fun, and good, game. One of the positive things about it was that I didn't seem to spend half my time fighting the tactical UI like I did while playing EU/EW.
This chapter always stressed me out because I always wanted to keep my followers alive. I wanted them all to live! To the point that I would put up barricades between myself and them so I could leave a group behind and then tell myself "At least those guys are ok".
In my quest to make an absurdly powerful fleet, I have reached the point where, if I don't plan everything out extremely carefully I start hemorrhaging money. And that's with almost every pirate base I can find giving me money. A lot of fun.
Space Marine was moderately popular. - Not earth shattering like Dawn of War, but was widely seen to be a solid enough game.
It probably would have had a sequel in due course. - The main issue was THQ, and therefore Relic, completely imploded a short time after it was released.
The Eternal Crusade MMO is supposed to be heavily inspired by Space Marine - and possibly uses some of its engine.
Probably the only thing I didn't like about Space Marine was the Bolter. It felt too much like a generic assault rifle than a bolter. Should have been slow-firing big-ass rockets that just blew the crap out of people. The rest of the weapons were fine. Flamer and missile launcher would have been appropriate for being very iconic/standby space marine weapons...but that's ok. Better to leave them out then get them wrong like with the bolter. The plasma pistol was pretty awesome, however, and the jump pack was amusing...especially with the thunder hammer.
All of this talk about Xcom 2 has got me considering reinstalling Xcom EU (and buy the EW DLC). What's the deal with long war again? It's a mod that... does... sounded kind of like a more extreme version of the 'extended campaign duration' setting the game opens up after you beat it once?
Funny enough, I think the Bolter family was the best-done weapon group on the game. the Lascannon was all right, the Melta always felt a little like they were trying to make it a shotgun in function, but it did the job well enough. Plasma always felt a little pathetic to me, lacked the 'oomph' it should have had.
But the Bolter... First time I fired the Bolter on that game, I knew it was going to be a good'un. That thumd-whump-thumd-whump-thumd-whump sound as you let off a burst was just perfect, I thought. Chunks of Ork flying all over the place and plenty of heads exploding helped too...
The bolter wasn't bad, but from the first time I read about the bolter I've been enchanted by the fact that it's not so much a gun as a multiple rocket launcher firing smart warheads that detonate after penetration. It just felt like it was shooting bullets not mini rockets. It was still cool, and the heavy bolter wasn't bad (though it should have been shooting fist sized rockets...).
The lascannon felt more like a 1/2 or 3/4 Las. A heavy weapon, but not as heavy as a legitimate devastator lascannon, something that was more along the lines of strength 7-8. I say 8 because it definitely could oneshot things if you hit the head. Things like other space marines or deamonhosts. melta definitely felt like a shotgun but I liked it for that, absolutely deadly up close. I didn't like the plasma gun or necessarily the cannon, but the pistol was great. Charge it up dangerously for a nasty nasty shot, or just pew pew pew alternating fire with pressure release.
Started playing Fallout New Vegas. Thought it would be fun to play a character that was a mix of a self-proclaimed, "man of class," and bloodthirsty samurai. Even already found a mod for a katana.
It'll be weird trying to run past gunfire in a suit, but hey, maybe more points in endurance can fix that.
Melee is totally viable. Of course you intend to do it without armor or (I'm guessing) stealth, which will make it a big more interesting. A lot of fights happen in enclosed spaces and there are entire types of enemies that can only melee so its not all bad.
Stuff like deathclaws will require a lot of levels and perks to not be suicide, but that counts for guns to an extent.
I think there are some really useful defensive and support (and obviously offensive!) Perks to keep an eye out for. One boosts your damage threshold which will help with that lack of armor.
Purchased Firewatch this morning, and have had a good day playing it. Never been one to play this sort of game but I have now realized how much I have missed by doing so.
Finished Space Marine this evening, throroughly enjoyable. They really captured the feel of the 40k universe, from the snippets of audio logs from ordinary troopers/citizens, to the look and feel of the Warboss and Daemons.
Probably a bit too much running through empty corridors/areas and wasnt totally satsified with the end boss fight (button mash really? The Ork Boss was a great fight) but very enjoyable romp overall.
Sigvatr wrote: Yeah, Space Marine was a really good game. Still sad that we might maybe never get a chance to kill the traitor :(
You mean the new guy ultramarine? I'd hardly consider that a worthy fight. Besides the guy was unsure of what was going on. We are talking the 40k universe remember (where everything is overly grimdark *rolls eyes*). If your guy wasn't a space marine and a captain at that but say a guardsmen he'd have his brains pasted on the side of a wall right now.
Ashiraya wrote: If you had been a Guardsman you'd have died in the first fight of the game.
The game really makes you realise how utterly bonkers the whole 'T4 3+' thing is.
I'd love for my WS4 S4 T4 3+ Raptor to pull this off...
Guardsmen suck except when there's a crap ton of them, they have vehicles esp. tanks or at the very least have heavy weapons. That's how it's always been. Course 'Space Marine' focused heavily on this point.
Sometimes when you see your space marine captain walking around normal boyz you imagine getting attacked by a swarm of 5 year olds. In numbers they might weigh you down but you can wipe them out by the dozen if you watch yourself.

What's annoying you about FTL? It's replay value is tied into difficulty what with being mostly a roguelike. Or is it doing something you don't like? I can only play it for so long at a stretch but I've gotten some fair mileage out if it.

oh no not saying its not fun. just frustrating when i build one way then the game sits there and sends boarding parties constantly or if i go an even build i still get pwned.
Did you start out on Easy? I find Normal can be downright impossible some days even when I'm in the zone. I almost always make sure to get a teleporter fast, even if I have engi and zoltans (well maybe not if thats the ONLY crew I have but still), because it will become the single most efficient way to amass scrap. It can also make thce end boss fights a bit easier if you're careful with how you do it.
I do hate those runs where you end up with hundreds of spare scrap but you can never find weapons or stores with weapons. I've gotten to sector 8 with little more than starter guns... usually means game over on the boss. I also tend to find weapon preigniters (guns start charged, can be absolutely insane when combined with powerful burst lasers and cloak) and then no guns to go with them =/
If it would only run on my Tabtop (it does, but it doesn't intelligently interpret the touch like a lot of games, rendering it virtually unplayable without peripherals), I'd probably load it back up myself.
Heard about the Long War mod for XCOM EU/EW. I still haven't beaten the vanilla game yet, so it would be really nice to tackle EW AND Long War AND Ironman as revenge, even though it would likely be insanely difficult and might never succeed.
I've been trying to get into the right mindset for playing tougher games, since I usually back down too easily. I'm a bit too used to pushing the difficulty to the easiest setting. This might be the push I need.

yeah playing normal. and getting boned.
every special event i run into i keep losing a dude 5 hp and or getting nothing. (those go help people, put out fire, stop the virus, stop the security systems kinda things)
i actually really like the starting gun and had a run with two of them. so many shots
Got myself a controller so I can play Dark Souls finally. Got out of the Asylum and am running around the Undead Burg. I can see why people say it's so unforgiving- it's really punishing!
I'm not that good at these sorts of games and the shoulder buttons being used to attack takes some getting used to - I keep panicking in fights and accidentally using items and so on.
Great atmosphere though.
Speaking of atmosphere, also playing Darkest Dungeon. Wow, what a game! Really fun to play and it oozes character. I love the idea of the player as this recruiter of unfortunate adventurers to plumb the depths of his ancestor's manor. Awesome fun.
I think I accidentally screwed over my XCOM game. I'm in a situation where the countries are constantly becoming more panicked, and when one gets better, two more get worse. Now it's a race to see what comes first: the satellites to reduce panic where it's urgently needed, or the decision from the US and Japan that will shut down the XCOM project.
Been playing a lot of Smite lately. Tried out several game modes, but like many MOBA games it will probably take some getting used to as far as what items each god should take.
Planning to get a start on X-Com: UFO Defence. I like how the classic games and the remakes are different enough in gameplay that they sort of are like separate games entirely.
Star Wars Battlefront and Fallout 4. I've been enjoying Battlefront, though I wish my Internet could be more reliable so I could play the bigger gamemodes. I mostly play Heroes VS Villains and also Hero Hunt. Getting Boba Fett on Endor is rather entertaining.
I've picked up X-com enemy within and been playing that for a while but so far I havn't gotten any exalt missions... maybe because that guy I had to escort got killed? anyways have two big mec troopers "Sir Tanksalot" and "big Momma" who have become a staple in my squads. Should probably add a new mec soon...
Also, Bouncing between that and Rome II total war. God do I love roman things. so far I destroyed at least 7 different cultures on a whim and my empire is continuing to grow. My last war I took three different cities in one turn, so fun times have been had by all. =D
Nearly done with legend of heroes trails in the sky. Been really fun. Boss fights have been interesting, this last one was practically impossible... Wasn't in real danger of getting wiped out, but the boss was quite happy to full heal frequently, had to bank up everyone's supermoves and chain everything in exactly the right order. But tough boss fights are good. In the last dungeon area now and I swear I'm gonna have PTSD regarding treasure chests....there has ways been a high instance of monsters spawning to guard chests but in here they're 2/3 of the time and nearly as hard as boss fights. Gotta save the game before I open any loot!
If I were to chase down a pokemon game to play, what's the ' best' one in terms of features and playability? I played most of yellow back a year or two ago and thought I may seek another out to fill the gap being done with FFT:WotL is leaving.
It seems that the DOTA 2 and LOL communities are finally starting to play Heroes of the Storm.
Die covering the retreat of your entire team because your tank refuses to; "noob sylv" (as quoted by the tank)
On to the next game. Capture the alters? Sure, I make my way to where the alter will spawn. Oh, nice, another guy. In come three enemies and the guy just waits and lets me die without doing a thing before running away. Game nears the end (we're losing), the guy with the lowest damage on everything and the lowest XP, whom did hardly a thing: "gg noob team"
I don't know why I bother playing these games anymore.

You can always leave teamchat (it's not like you need it as Sylvanas...), and reporting them for abusive chat does silence them as well.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, I ran some numbers for fun.
In Eternal Crusade, killing someone at close range with the bolter takes a heartbeat, a couple of seconds at most. You are incredibly fragile.
In the Space Marine campaign, the Chaos Space Marine mooks you kill many of during the game are quite a lot tougher. Assuming close range, with no headshots, it takes about 67 bolt rounds to down one. That is almost nine seconds of continous fire, not including reloads.
The difference is completely absurd and a large part of why I really struggle to like Eternal Crusade. You die by far too quickly.
I lost track of where I was on all my old characters and how I was playing them, so I deleted all 5 of my old saved game characters and now I'm doing a playthrough of Pillars of Eternity again, as The White March Part 2 is out. Can't wait to go up against the new enemy!
Currently trying to battle my way out of division 4 in Bloodbowl. Eeeek, even small errors can cost you big time! The computer also seems to pull off some crazy chain rolls when needed I need to win my 3 remaining games to get promoted.....
Found a mod/hack for a pokemon game called light platinum. It's being fairly entertaining. Sure, my Raichu has to learn all of his moves from training machines because I evolved him at level five...but his stat growth has been ridiculous

Have you ever heard of Vietnamese Crystal? It's a bootleg of Pokemon Crystal, but with translations that are so bad, it's outright hilarious.
The Division open beta. It's a bit limited right now, but it's looking good. The Dark zone has quite a bit of annoying dickery going on with players running in front of hostile A.I. in the hopes of getting hit so you turn rogue, so I'll be avoiding that bit of the game for sure.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this sort of thing

Agreed, I've put four or so hours in and right now there's nothing more to do aside from bumping into the odd group of looters or sickly citizen looking to exchange a can of food for an item.
I was playing Xcom 2 but the bugs, and mindnumbing ending made me drop it and go back to playing Pillars Of Eternity, downloaded the new expansion pack.
I've been doing some Civ 5 with EvergreenArcher and VladimirUhl (who I finally convinced to make Dakka accounts). I really hate having Venice be in the map, because all of my city state allies (and major source of voting power) get taken over by him, and can't be liberated back into city states if I capture them.
I've finally discovered why so many people hate UPlay. Darn it Ubisoft, I already paid for AC2 and Far Cry 3.
Also really getting into Dark Souls! I'm actually sort of getting better at dying without feeling bummed out enough to quit the game after dying once. Still on the Undead Burgh, but hey, I'm a newbie who's always played every game on the easiest setting. Small steps, right?
I went back to playing Dragon Age: Trespasser tonight.
Confusing game is confusing. Not the actual game, really, but all the little references, puzzles and sneaky bits while trying to build up a full picture of what is going on.

That's because The Dark Zone isn't just a PvP area.
It's also a PvE area. I had a blast in there, only ever engaging in PvP when someone started trying to kill me and they were flagged Rogue. When that happened--I got to kill them, no consequences, AND got to take their stuff!
Additionally the Dark Zone is an area that will (apparently) have to be traversed during the course of the main story, since four of the checkpoints that were available to us during the Open and Closed Betas were to areas that were "Unavailable during the beta".
Tried mod hunting for Half-Life mods. I'm too chicken for Afraid of Monsters and Cry of Fear (though I must admit they are both very well made mods), but They Hunger is looking quite nice for a horror mod.
Also thought of downloading the early version of Counter Strike (since it's on ModDB), but thought instead it might be a better idea to just buy the game when it goes on sale to avoid legal issues. Instead got one called Base Defense.
Might also look into Sven Coop. I heard that one was pretty good.
Just beat the xcom 2 game on 2nd hardest difficulty with only one reload.
Spoiler:
I accidentally summoned 2 avatars at once early in the game when you had to hack codexes and didn't know that'd happen so I died even though I took one with me. The temple battle was fairly tough. One of my guys was bleeding out with only 1 turn left on his counter and a couple of my other guys were hurt sorta bad. I lucked out with a less than 50% shot on my sniper with the boosted strength shot ability and armor piercing bullets to finish off the 3rd and final avatar. The psi lances also helped considerably as I was mostly out of cover destroying abilities and no good way to do it without making the avatars just run away. I had to retreat back when the 3rd one came around as I was getting overwhelmed.
Btwwtf is up with the super saiyan ending? Considering the hair I can't see how you couldn't make that connection
Spoiler:
(unless you imagined the avatars as those troll dolls from like the 80's)
.
It does also seem to hint at 'terror from the deep' next. I never played that game but I guess you could draw that conclusion from the ending.
------
Anyway xcom 2 is tough (2nd hardest difficulty and above I'm sure) but maybe it's just my first successful playthrough. My biggest love for the game is the almost completely destructible environments. You can throw enough ordnance at a building to collapse half of it easy.
Here's one of my pictures and I think I have one with an Advent base even more heavily destroyed.
flamingkillamajig wrote: It does also seem to hint at 'terror from the deep' next. I never played that game but I guess you could draw that conclusion from the ending.
The original Terror From the Deep was basically "reskinned X-Com, but harder". Not only did they fix the difficulty level bug from the original X-Com UFO Defense, but they also made some critical changes to the gameplay that pretty much only existed to make your life more difficult.
Terraria. Starting a new game is still more fun than the endgame, at least when playing alone.
What the game needs is a more robust world creation. The ability to choose whether a world had crimson or corruption at the start would be a plus, at least.

So since my 6th try or so was my successful nearly one try run of commander difficulty I'm trying again. This time I'm using most if not all the other class variants from the other half of the tree (gunslingers for sharpshooters, swordsman for rangers, but the other 2 classes I mixed and matched a little more. I suppose I can make some super heavy doctor specialists since without super high levels of hack skull you tend to fail everything anyway. At least there's a fairly reliable shutdown for 2 turns ability when you hack..
So far I will say swordsmen rangers are pretty freaking amazing so far. Before it was mostly just my scout that could conceal even in missions that didn't allow it. The swordsman however is very nice charging in like a madman. He's also a british guy with the incredibly over the top fancy and proper british voice (computer rolled that one up for my first mission). No deaths so far and I don't even think my ranger has been hurt much if at all yet. I will try to give him lots of mobility or dodge in the future as I imagine he'll need it. I was also planning to give him the armor that helps vs environmental hazards and then just plop a crap ton of them on all the enemies he has to fight and forcing them into bad situations by doing this. Currently poison and fire sound like the most fun thing ever but I don't know if acid does anything beyond hurting you each turn when it's on you (fire prevents the use of most special abilities while you're burning and poison gives movement penalties as well as aim penalties). So I don't imagine why acid would do nothing when you're burning from acid. Perhaps you take more damage from enemy attacks? I really need to find this out. If I remember when you hover over the enemy's symbol when targeting and it show boosts and negatives you need to hover over it to find out what they're suffering/boosted from.
Waiting for the next terror mission. I'm hoping to modify my squad, so they are all candidates for the US election. I'm wondering what would happen if I were to roleplay the candidates during the mission.
Also, for the sake of funzies, decided to, "preserve," the customize information on certain soldiers who appeared to do a pretty good job. That way, in case I've lost the game, when I try again, I will have these, "special," soldiers to use later. Assault Cpt. Hyun Jung Kim is the first. Despite being in only 7 missions and having 19 kills, she has a habit of having most shots at her miss, and a lot of her shots hitting the mark. She's even at times held her own without any fire support.
Just got a free copy of the division with my graphics card. So I will be playing some of it, I had no intention of buying the game after playing the beta but for free I will play it.
Currently playing a lot of Overwatch & Final Fantasy 14. The latter of which has been a huge surprise, I tried it basically on a whim. I didn't expect much as I'd grown pretty tired of MMOs and Final Fantasy has been pretty hit or mess for a while now. However it turned out to be a lot more than a simple WoW clone and also really feels like the Final Fantasy game best at being a Final Fantasy game since 9.
Kanluwen wrote: The Division cannot come soon enough for me.
What did you think of the beta?
They fixed 90% of my issues from the closed beta/alpha testing regarding the Dark Zone play.
There's still some fine tuning to be had when it comes to the Dark Zone(notably things like certain buildings/routes needing more accessibility to prevent camping by Rogue Agents). I think a lot of that might be fixed though once it comes out, since we had something like a quarter of the overall Dark Zone area available to us.

I'm naming all my soldiers after Wodehouse characters.
Honoria Glossop is a sniper. This game knows what's up.
I felt the same way when I had to leave to visit my dad for a few days during release day of all times and it took probably a few days to get the game and more to download. Then after a few days of playing it decided to not play and re-download. When it finally finished it started downloading again at which point I deleted my cache and started it up to which it just went through a few quick loads and was ready to play again.

If you're talking xcom 2 then hit me up on steam some time.
Steam name is:
FKM

On the subject of gunslingers and melee dudes I want to give the melee guy a hazard suit armor and spray enemies with various environmental hazard weapons like fire, acid and poison (but esp. fire and poison) and then charge in with my melee dude. The poison may do the most considering it effects aim and movement speed and preventing an enemy from running is a boon to an assault.
With gunslinger I may do incendiary or venom rounds for the same reason once I get the 'take a free shot at all visible enemies' ability.
I'm actually gonna ask malfred if some of my xcom 2 characters are ok to show. The biographies are pretty hilarious and I have mostly made friends so far.
Started playing Spore again, and someone gifted me TW: Attila for my birthday. That's been great fun, been doing an Ostragoths playthrough. Or several, actually... playing as a migrant horde is really, really difficult.
Back playing Skrim. Never completed the dark brother quest line on my first characters so getting into that and enjoying it.
Went all sneaky stabby longbow dark elf this time. Fun mechanics compared to my previous double destro and conjuration builds.
Bought Valkyria Chronicles earlier today. Somehow out of nowhere got a steam coupon for it, so it wasn't too expensive either. A friend told me it was good, so I might install it after I've finished Mass Effect 2.
Right now I'm just super Excited For SUPERHOT. I'm basically playing the three year old demo over and over again in preparation for tomorrow. I don't think I have been this excited for a game in a while!
But yea, that's what I have been playing... the four levels the super hot prototype game gives me over and over again. It's so good.
So, I've been wanting to play more Dragon Age Inquisition but, somehow, it's become completely impossible for me to log into anything remotely Origin related.

It's driving me up the wall and, to be honest, I don't even think it's EA at fault... - I've done loads of various investigations and it all seems to come down to https://accounts.ea.com being inaccessible.
Which makes me think my router did something weird last night. - Yet I've restarted and factory reset the thing about a half dozen times tonight.
I'm really kinda out of ideas by now, aside from cross-my-fingers-and-hope-a-firmware-update-happens-overnight.
Remembering how much it pisses me off when I miss an 88% in xcom 2 and a similarly high chance shot 80+ and a 90% missing. I missed quite a lot of shots and my guys panicked way more than usual this game. Seriously I'm wondering why they are panicking so much. It's only commander difficulty and I don't remember them panicking as much all the previous games. In one mission I was one move away from hacking a terminal with a specialist (support) and they just panicked when a squadmate died and they couldn't even see them. I don't even understand that one. I was about to win the mission too. All poor shots, bad luck and bad placement aside I managed to keep the others alive. They were all gravely wounded though I think.
Currently everything is pretty good. Everything is up to tier 2 weaponry with the exception of grenade launcher. I even have plasma grenades now with advanced explosives being worked on. Considering how early I'm getting this out of the way it should have a ridiculously potent effect on my enemies. The advanced warfare center has also helped considerably. I'm thinking of seeing if I can get a mission lead or something very soon as a hack reward and trying as much as possible to get it so I can shut down the new alien base in south Africa. Most thing are going well though aside from avatar progress recently bumping up to 6 down from 3 just days or a week ago in the game's time. Right now what I really could use is money and then expanding quickly around the world. That's pretty much for sure what I will get done next as soon as this retaliation mission is finished (however that turns out). I have to go to bed though so that mission and the game plan with have to wait till tomorrow. Will be awesome to see improved grenades though. I'm already seeing the boost of tier 2 gremlins (bots). You can get them pretty early considering advents bots give that research. Only other bot that does that is sectopod.

I cannot access the website either. I hope EA is facing problems on their end right now, because it would explain why even after calling their customer support and doing everything under the sun, I can't log into Spore.
That that, is why I never liked that whole Origin thing. I guess the same could happen with steam but at least that usually works pretty well in offline mode.

I got a coupon as well - if anyone wants it, send me a message on steam!
I've bought Metro Last Light Redux yesterday, as it was only 5 bucks on Xbox, so I've played that for a couple of hours. I'm really enjoying it!
As for the whole Origin thing, I can log in fine, be it on Origin or Battlelog, on both my Xbox and PC.
Well, with Origin fixed last night, after leaving my modem unplugged for most of the day, I got to finish playing Dragon Age: Inquisition: Tresspasser.
Wow, I mean, I don't think I've thought so much about a particular game for a long while.
With the game finished now, it really does look like Bioware took everything that people said about Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 and addressed them perfectly. Trespasser finishes off The Inquisitor's story but then also outlines a path and hints for the next game.
It also seems a good example of DLC done right - it's an extra story that took 2 or 3 evenings to play through.
I'm definitely giving Trespasser 5 stars and Inquisition for that matter.
While I haven't played Bloodborne (still hoping that Steam, "leak," is true though) I appreciate its story much more, especially in the final fight. (MAJOR spoilers)
Spoiler:
I love how the fight with Gehrman plays out, especially now that I understand the context of the fight a bit better. I like to think that this fight isn't out of spite, nor as a good vs evil fight. When Gehrman offers to release you from the Hunter's Dream, he's offering to stay behind so you can be freed. Keep in mind, in parts of dialogue, one can tell he really doesn't want to be trapped in the nightmare anymore. If you refuse and kill him, then it will be you staying behind to free Gehrman. Because of this, the whole battle seems like one big, "after you," argument. The reason for this duel is not malice, but benevolence.
There's no good ending or bad ending, just an ending. Either Gehrman gets you out, or you get Gehrman out.
If this was what was intended, I can't think of too many games that set up a fight like this. Personally, I find it makes an already beautiful boss fight even more beautiful.
I may need to get battle scanners for the inevitable guys that patrol just under a cliff out of line of sight until you're right on top of them. Concealed rangers help a lot esp. in missions where you can't conceal with everybody and need scouts. I also really dig some of the hacking rewards. The ability to scan twice as fast for 4 weeks was something I didn't think was a big deal but sure enough if you fight and win missions frequently or just have a bunch of rewards lying around (from resistance contacts) yet to be scanned and claimed it halves the scanning times on them. I wish the rewards were less random but it is fun at times.
Playing more Civilization V. I chose Random Civ at the game start and got the Koreans. Still in the Classical Era, so far only contacted the Huns and the Venetians.
I hoped it would sate my want for Harvest Moon, but it just... doesn't. If anything, it's made me start pining for my Friends of Mineral Town game even more--which is bad, because it's only available now on the Wii U e-shop and not the 3DS one, and I'm not prepared to buy a Wii U solely for it, nor a 3DS that I can't get it on. Playing it, I feel like something's just off. There are two wires that aren't quite connecting, and it's stopping me from enjoying it like I should.
It might be the more Animal Crossing-y aspects it has; the idea of some sort of community of people and little quests to get mailed or find pinned on the noticeboard. To me it just makes things a little too involved. Having to juggle not just the farm, but also the townspeople is a layer of depth and complexity I find just that bit too much. It's nice to have people that actually feel like people, but the game's a bit needy about them all.
Harvest Moon lacked the town cohesion, and Animal Crossing lacked having to really devote yourself to tasks in order to progress, and individually that's fine. Putting them both together makes playing the game feel less like a fun, relaxing time, and a bit too much like a chore.
Extremely late to the Dark Souls party. They were not kidding when they said this game was hard! I suck at 3rd person combat at the best of times.
Really love the world and aesthetic, but beginning to wonder if it's not actually too hard for me? Been stuck in the undead burg for ages now! And got to the Taurus Demon and he just mulched me in no time at all.

Here's a tip for the Taurus Demon if you want.
Spoiler:
As soon as you enter the mist wall, turn around and look for a ladder. Falling attacks do a lot of damage.
The ruins of the Imperial City is a multi alliance (i.e. enemy factions) zone. I joined a group and we made a run to the heart of the sewers. As we turned back, right outside the safe zone the group is sniped by an enemy faction. When you die to an enemy player in this area you lose most of your treasure.
...Meanwhile I was hiding under some stairs looting a chest, completely unaware till chat exploded with caps lock swearing.
Spoiler:
I ditched lockpicking the chest, it was glowing blue, and ran.
Only to discover an even larger enemy group (of the third faction) hiding around the corner we'd came around. Turns out they were following us.
I spammed speed and stealth boosts and well..
Spoiler:
And made it back to the base. As everyone else rage quit I got away with the loot. It seemed to perk people up when I apologized. Heh, that someone got away with loot cheered people up a bit. Just a shame to know that even had I got involved in that fight, we would have all been mopped up by an ambush.

I've heard a lot of comparisons to those two games, but I've never played them. Stardew Valley, at least, is on PC, so I get to play it.

STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM! YOUR STOLEN GOODS ARE NOW FORFEIT! Anyway, that's pretty awesome and hilarious. Congrats.
Finished my campaings as the Emirate Of Cordoba in Age Of Charlemange(spelling??) witch has been an abseloute blast, really enjoyed this latest expansion. Although I dare say having to deal with the Franks was a bit tense, as they seemed to conjue up massive amounts of veteran armies to hurl at me.
One of my best moments when I had conquerd all of Spain, and realized that I was swimming in resources and coin. And after x amounts of turns beeing frugal it felt good to spend gold like a mad man.
Also I really enoyed the fact that the unit cards had been reowrked amongst other things, witch made the game feel way more immersive than any other addition to Atilla has done so far.
Well, Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow are now available on the 3DS virtual console, so I picked up Yellow, since it appears to be slightly different from the standard gen 1 formula. I used to play Leaf Green until the file got corrupted, so there's a bit of nostalgia to it too.an
EDIT: After playing it for a bit, I swear this is an Ash Ketchum simulator. Pikachu follows you around and everything. Nice touch.
Also, I think I found a decent strategy for Chaos in DoW Retribution. If I capture some strategic points and dump some dreadnoughts with Marks of Khorne on them, I can activate them when enemies show up. They're relatively durable, and with MoK activated, they can take on a group, so I can send my chaos hero after more control points. Only downsides are that they require a lot of micromanagement and organization so the wrong ones aren't activated (Khorne Dreadnoughts attack anything close, including allies), and if they run out of enemies to fight, in which case, they'll fight each other. May do some more field tests while I wait for the Overlord DLC.
I cannot recommend all of you play this game enough. It's amazing. The atmosphere! The wonderful amazing atmosphere!!! I'm incredibly sad that this little wonder is only 2 hours long. But it's easily some of the most fun I've had in a good while

Yeah, Yellow was released after the others- it was basically a re-hash of Red and Blue, but banking on the popularity of the Anime.
I liked yellow, the extra bit where you could check pikachus friendship and all that was fun.
About halfway through Pokemon light platinum so I took out the first elite four and champion and basically am starting over in a new region. Kind of a sucky gauntlet, didn't help that I was lazy and didn't do a final round of grinding to match lvl 70 on all of their dudes.
Not sure if new zone is gonna start at same level or if it will be low enough that I can bust out some new dudes.
Still really close to beating legend of heroes but I'm picky about when I play that one.
I did some DoWDC with my friend EvergreenArcher, and, like usual, we had a great time killing whatever was sent our way. However, we did uncover the sheer tankiness of a glitches necron overlord who is at -10,800 health and cannot move besides teleporting. I only hope the Necron Overlord that Relic is adding to DoW II won't be as tanky.

Late game is boring. Also it's true that henchmen begin to mostly suck as compared to heroes and your leader. Later game is just finding spellbooks to boost your late tier items with and very slowly unlocking rewards with wyrdstone buyers by leveling up your rep with them.
Playing through Valkyria Chronicles. Rather nice game so far. I like how the shooter elements work with the strategy mechanics, and the story's pretty good as well.

Picked up Mordheim on a 50% deal and have to say am pretty disappointed with it. Was really hoping that they would have done what they did with Bloodbowl and have a version of the actual game rules in the game, but instead they have gone for a halfway house that captures the worst of both worlds; for the most part the tactic just seems to be load all of your characters on 1 enemy, kill them and then move on.
Also, I don't know if it's just the loss of translation from table to game, but it just seems to be so drab, and have about 10% of the imagery, character and energy that the tabletop game used to have. Crappy interface, camera and view as well, reminds me of playing the first 3d games years ago when the camera was getting lodged behind scenery and killed you.

Finished the dark brotherhood questline in Skyrim, very enjoyable.
It's alright but late game is boring as I said. I should probably try the empire faction. I've only done skaven up to this point. They have some enjoyable guns I hear (including hunting rifle which is like a sniper rifle and blunderbuss which is AoE).
Must be the time of year for it; I've been messing around in DoW Soulstorm. I forgot just how much of a slog the faction base battles can be on medium or hard.
Started a new game in Icewind Dale 1, and decided to do a elf only party. Now this seemed like a good idea but when you realize that you need to pay an arm and a leg to have one of your fallen compatriots raised from the dead before your cleric gets the proper spells....Then it gets more challenging. But anyhow, so far I have gotten to Kuldahar and have sorted out the Vale of shadows, and are now diving into the troll infested parts of the game. Really glad I decided to have two paladins in my party, as their ability to use fire based skills realy helps. Also having a skilled thief helps as always. Have also been very lucky with my loot finding, found a pair of enchanted suits of Plate mail after a hard battle against the hordes of undead in the mentioned vale of shadows.
This is my party build for this particular play.
Ashwan (Elven Paladin)
Specialized in longswords and sword and shield
Isha(Elven Paladin )
Great sword specialized, and with some points put towards making her more dureabler in combat, same goes for her male counterpart.
Valeria(Elven Figther )
Alround type of characther, with some points put towards buffs of various nature.
Astrubal(Elven cleric)
Armed with a bow and loaded for support and healing. Wanting to find him some good hammer or morning star but no luck so far.
Eshwan(Elven thief)
Typical thief, loads of points put towards trap finding and stealth. armed with a enchanted crossbow and a pair of daggers for backstabing if need be.
Gwaldur(Elven sorcerer)
I have given him as much as possible in the way of magical trickets and a pretty decent mage robe that I found. I wanted this to be my crowd control charcther, so loads of AoE spells and other high powerd spells for quickly knocking down swarms of enemies before they overwhelm my front line characthers.
Sounds like a neat party, I always liked themed groups. Sure, balanced parties have an better time of it but with a theme you get to struggle against your weaknesses and revel in the ease with which you curbstomp the things you're good at. Sorcerer was probably a good choice, I've only played IWD to about the point you mentioned...but if IWD2 is anything to go by...they're gonna be pretty stingy with viable scrolls for your wizard(s) to learn. Hmm yeah, IWD definitely seems like better sorcerer/avenger druid territory.
Personally, still playing pokemon games on my phone. I'm giving Light Platinum a bit of a break as the second half of the journey is a bit tedious and you don't get the fun of starting over with a new team, everything is middle+ levels so if you want to use any new dudes you find you've got to grind them forever. May go back and finish it sometime as it still has an interesting array of dudes (I think the writer painstakingly imported critters from back/white and possibly x/y, even though the game itself is based on a generation 2 or 3 rom). But anyway.. started Emerald and I'm having fun with that. Whereas light platinum tends to hand out reasonably rare/high base stats pokemon (but very little access to pokeballs early in the game), I've been able to go back to a 'catch em all' approach with Emerald where I can weed out the weakest ones and hand pick the best/my favorites. I dunno if I'm gonna get anything cool like Tyranitar or Hydraegon in this run so I picked up an Aron/Aggron and was happy to find a Skarmory too, nice tough defensive dudes. I also put in the effort to level up a Gyrados because useless fish turning into badass sea monster is always fun, and you've gotta have at least one water type to use all of the 'getting around' moves anyway. Torchic/Blazekin seemed like the coolest starter (like fighting) and I'm giving a Sableye a provisional slot because of it's nearly unique type and distinct lack of weaknesses (but it's stats kind of suck so he may not make the long haul). Most excited, however, about the Ralts/Kirlia/Gardevoir, which is probably my favorite pokedude for whichever reason. I was hoping to evolve the boy version with arm-swords too but I guess that's just in the newer games. One thing they didn't have in the Light Platinum was bikes, and moving that much faster is a good thing.
You know you want to go back to the wilderness and slay Orcs and Bugbears
But yes, I have always liked to make the game a bit more intresting & challenging by making themed parties as you say, Elfs are devestatigly good with bows and sword alongside magic. But suffer from being somewhat frail until you are properly leved up, and equiped. And yes, the sorcerer is far superiour to the wizzard in any shape or form, unless we are talking high level Drow wizzards Vs regular Sorcerers since they recive a rather hefty bonus to that class if you roll them as males.
But if one is determined to use a wizzard I would highly recomend taking a few AoE spells for your Clerics. Since clerics can punch far above their own weigth when using said spells. As far as IWD 2 are concerd they are around the same lvl when it comes to stingynes with scrolls but they are more often than not cheaper to purchase and drop more often than in IWD 1.
Trying to test out the games from the Star Wars Collection on Steam, and currently starting to play The Force Unleashed. Nothing absolutely stellar, but it's pretty cool so far. It's especially fun flinging everything that breathes and moves all over the place.
Finishing up Fallout 4 to 100% achievement status before the DLC comes out (pesky BOS ending).
Think I'm going to start Life is Strange, seeing as a picked it up for $10 on Xbox Live today. They've been doing some pretty timely sales, at least for me.
I just want you guys to know xcom 2 ironman is absolute bull ****. If you lose on the final mission like if your commander gets singled out and killed then you lose period. That isn't so bad in other games where there are saves but in ironman it updates constantly and if you fail on the last mission it updates to the failure showing the cutscene so you can never reload that last turn and the game is failed period. Oddly it showed xcom winning and then losing in my campaign (I killed 2 of the 3 avatars and knocked the 3rd down to 1 hp). So if you do lose the commander it's auto-fail with no returns. Regardless of how well you did or if the last avatar was 1 hp from death like with me or if your squad could've wiped out the last avatar. If your commander dies game over period. I lost hours of many days into that commander difficulty on ironman mode putting care into everything even getting screwed by a glitch where your specialist can feedback to death. Everything in the normal game was certain that I'd win. I win the radio relay no damage taken. Last fight of last game with one last avatar down to 1 hp and lose. I lose the whole game. That is so absurdly BS. Even the temple ship fight in enemy unknown allowed restarts whether ironman mode or not. This just flips you off with both hands and jams it down you where the sun don't shine. Seriously I'm so pissed I could punch into a wall right now.

So your pissed because the game beat you? And its how Iron man should be, if you ask me. And honneslty anyone still playing Xcom 2 still? After the sheer mass of bugs that has apperared after the last patch
No I was mad because the temple run had no restart button so one crap turn cost me the whole game period. That never happened in enemy unknown. Also normally the xcom 2 game allows final mission restarts but that one didn't. The game in a way did not beat me. Besides I had a friend teasing me the whole way (before I lost and after I lost) because he's an awful friend like that.
I'm still stuck in Overwatch & Final Fantasy 14. FF14 more and more so. It really has captured that old MMO magic for me that I haven't had in years. Among other things I love the music (1) for the boss fights (2) in the game (3). For a genre that tends to keep things relatively short and atmospheric it's like specifically instructed composers to show no restraint.
Had my first botch-up on Valkyria Chronicles. Drove my tank with my commander inside up to the middle of enemy fire with no backup whatsoever. I wound up being surrounded by three tanks. This is why I don't like timed missions.
Really loving this game so far though! The gameplay and story have a surprising amount of depth, even in areas that I wasn't expecting. My only worry is if the game is too short.
Also gave Last Stand another shot with an Ork Mek. I feel sorry for my teammates. I kept on dying.
I loved pumping orders into my Lancer dude so he could commando charge behind a tank and one shot it. You could also while infantry with the Lancer gun with careful aim and a little luck, kinda reminded me of using the AT turret on planetside2 to snipe little ant sized players from draw distance, though the Lance's weren't quite so accurate.
Finally got money for Stardew Valley last week. It's been fun! Like a cross between animal crossing and harvest valley, with a little bit of top-down rpgs like Link to the Past thrown in.

Honestly, don't worry about the time limits. They are forgiving enough that you can play it safe. Not slow, but safe.
Remember, your tank is more than just for killing, It's also movable cover. Let your tank push, with your infantry close behind. And if you can take out their lancers at range (snipes are my preferred way, but I just love snipers generally) you shouldn't have much to worry about.
And (because I didn't find this out into late in the game), remember you can repair the rank with engineers. If you go to the engineer tool and go right up close to the tank, and then go into aim mode, your reticle should turn blue (similar to using the heal things on team members). "Fire" it, and that should get a good chunk of tank health back. A tank with a couple of engineers is basically unkillable. Engineers can also repair sandbags, refill ammo for people who have limits, disable mines, and can deal decent damage with their rifles to boot, as well as having more grenades (IIRC). They are one of the weakest classes, however, so be gentle with them.
I really do need some time to start on X-COM 2. All my friends are playing it and I was super addict to the Enemy Unknown/Within.
Already started a new game and it isn't going as well as the previous one but I seem to be developing faster far as I can tell. I already have tier 3 for most things except armor and the sniper rifle. I love how one of my continent bonuses is vest and armor items are made instantly. It helped so much. Healing armor on the rangers helped esp.
Switched to pokemon emerald from light platinum as the second half of LP was kind of dull. I think I mentioned that. After looking up a couple of my dudes and determining that they had bad endgame stats or little to no solid end game moves even by TM, some cuts were made. There is now a stricter screening process to fill out my team's last slot or two.
Still entertaining, if rather grindy. At least the fast forward function saves me some time.
I decided to go back and play through Fallout 1 and 2. I beat Fallout a couple weeks ago, and now I'm making some progress in Fallout 2. They both certainly hold up well, in terms of entertainment value. I was afraid I'd be annoyed going back to such a dated interface after all these years, but I've been genuinely enjoying the experience.
From everything I've seen/heard/read/watched, one does not simply, "try out Stardew Valley."
Ha, well, I hope that's in a good way. I've been following the development for... quite a while, and I'm really looking forward to finally getting to play it.
That game sounds like all of the things I *don't* like to do in those kinds of games, so I can safely avoid it. Trailer did look like it would be nice for people who were into it though.
I tried fallout 1 or 2 and could not get into it. Never played them when they were new so that doesn't help. I may try again some day but for now I'm staying clear, as much as I like the franchise.

It is probably more difficult if you didn't play them in their original context. I played Fallout back when it was relatively new, so going back to it now was more nostalgic than unpleasant. If you'd never played RPGs when games like Fallout were the norm, I can see how one might not be able to enjoy it.
Right now I'm looking for something new to play. Burned out on Pillars, don't like Baldur's gate, and brother won't let me touch his copy of Borderlands 2
Any suggestions? I've got a decent PC and no consoles. Either free or something I've got to buy would be okay
Reeeally debating whether or not to get Trails in the Sky now that it's on sale. On one hand, it looks pretty cool, and I heard the story was rather neat. On the other hand, ugh, I think I already spent most of my Steam money.

Oh my, I pretty much abuse using the tank as cover. It's especially handy for hit-and-run attacks on priority targets, or allowing less mobile soldiers to safely move to a new position. I think my problem for timed missions is because I'm more used to performing a slow push towards the objective, which is my usual strategy for XCOM. I'll keep the engineer advice in mind though. Thanks!

Fallout 1 and 2 if you like classic RPGs.
See my big thing is this... I just can't stand the interface and way to doing things. Same with Baldur's gate, it's just so antiquated. I still to this day play Age of Empires 2, but I just can't enjoy Baldur's gate and the older Fallout titles.
Played Fallout 3 and NV to death and my PC can only just handle F4. Barely
Pretty much at the same point I was at last game of Xcom 2 with commander difficulty on ironman mode. Some losses but nothing too crippling. It does really hurt to lose some colonel soldiers but I had some replacements. At this point once again they mostly can't stop me. All that's left really is the big main missions (the radar assault and the temple mission). I'm almost making 1k per month (850 in supplies) so all I really need is intel and that's it really. There's pretty much no place they can go on the planet to construct an alien facility I can't get to easily. The aliens are only at about 4 blocks of avatar progress and one block of progress is from one facility I'm just ignoring for now.
So in short it's a mostly successful run. I just won't call it a win until the game is finished. Gotta learn from last time.

Well, for one thing, if you're into Borderlands 2, it usually goes on sale on Steam for around 5.00$.
Planescape Torment has a slightly similar playstyle to Pillars and Baldur's Gate, but places a MUCH heavier emphasis on story (which is actually pretty good).
I've also found the Civilization games are especially good for burning through hours of gameplay (I still play it, and I think my total hours on that game is around the triple-digits). If you're on a budget, there's the third one on Steam for a relatively cheap price, and while it's a bit more dated than the later two, it still has relatively the same experience.
Also, if you're into RPGs like Fallout, there's the Elder Scrolls games. GOG.com offers Arena, Daggerfall, and Morrowind in one package, and while the first two may not be the absolute best (especially Arena), Morrowind is usually considered by many ES fans to be the best, despite the dated graphics.
I'm terrible at it, but I'm having fun. I did most of the Tutorial missions, and played two multiplayer games. I got two kills, a bunch of assists, and one time I accidentally blew up the hostage as Fuze!

I didn't like the Elder Scrolls. Didn't think it was bad by any means, but I wish I could refund my Skyrim.
Planescape looks to have the same problems I have with older Fallout and Baldur's gate, that being the UI that I can't play with.
My other brother (who shares willingly) owns Civ V so that's more than covered. Haven't tried it yet, and doesn't look like my kind of game, but maybe I'll give it a go later.
There's a sale on SEGA stuff on steam right now. So I'll see if I find anything interesting there.
Ratius wrote: Try Alien Isolation if on Sega sale. Not perfect but very enjoyable overall.

DA?
And no Alien Isolation isn't on sale, It looks like the Sega sale extends to DoW, Sanic, and a few misc games. Valkyria Chronicles looks interesting though...
Valkyria chronicles plays kinda like a 3rd person shooter Final fantasy tactics. Sort of. The game plays a lot like I would expect an corvus belli Infinity inspired PC game to play. You get a pool of orders based on how many units you bring and you can spend orders unevenly, pumping several into one unit so it can go commando behind enemy lines (though it's movement distance will steadily shrink with each activation as it wears out). There's breaching walls with your tank, using it to cover your lighter units. You can belly crawl through the grass to sneak up on dudes. And the enemy is always shooting back (at somewhat limited efficiency) to help keep that element of not-really-turn-based 'realism'. Well both sides do it, everyone shoots when people run inside their lines of fire, it just isn't as effectual as when you're actually spending orders to make shots.
Several classes: assault, sniper, engineer, lancer (heavy), probably one or two I'm forgetting and then the tank commander spot too.
Another thing I thought was really neat is that you can get a couple dozen or more characters to order around and every single one has a bit of backstory in addition to their own voice actor and quirks. You really feel bad for letting any of them die because of their personalities.
Ooof- don't like Skyrim? Might I ask why, precisely? Depending on why you don't like it, Morrowind might actually be right up your alley- it's enough different in terms of gameplay and story that you may still enjoy it, even if you dislike Skyrim. Graphics can be updated with mods, easily.
And speaking of Mods- you're a PC gamer- have you tried modded versions of games you enjoy? I know that Oblivion, at least, has one or two completely different games developed using the Modding engine Bethesda provided.

Oh I've modded the crap out of most of my games.
I found Skyrim boring and the menus awful. Werewolf mode was cool though
You might enjoy Morrowind, then. Completely different menu system, and the story in Morrowind is second to none. Plus, it's a game which actually demands you properly explore, and pay attention to things like directions that the NPCs give you- for having very little voice-acting, the NPCs are actually a lot more characterful than anyone in Skyrim or Oblivion, I think. The text-based interaction menus allow for a lot more character building.
Just... avoid Marksmanship combat- bows, crossbows, throwing stars, daggers and darts. For a first-time player, the chance-based mechanics on those are super annoying.
Ok just beat commander difficulty in ironman mode of xcom 2. That went ridiculously well in both the radar relay battle and the final battle. Seriously grappling hook being a free move and mobility PCS increase for rangers means they can move like freaking speed demons and then flank and shotgun the crap out of some really tough enemies. In the radar relay battle none of my 3 soldiers even got wounded (I brought a stealth ranger, sniper sharpshooter and a grenadier with well lots of grenades). I didn't lose even one soldier in the last battle. I think a couple got just below half health at one point but nothing too terrible. I still had a little bit of medkits left but my grenades were down to just one plasma grenade. All in all insanely successful mission. I'm kinda unhappy my sniper rifle had only 3 rounds but the scope was probably needed.
Perhaps I lucked out somewhat at the end. Either I'm getting really good at xcom 2 or I got some good streaks of luck. The terrain of the last mission is also pretty standard so that's helpful.
Dark Souls still. In the Depths, got Cursed by Basilisks! Argh. Now I need to kill the Gaping Dragon on half health and trek to the belltower to get a purging stone. Frustrating!
Edit: Got murdered by the Dragon when it charged me, lost my souls. Decided, eff it, gonna go get the cure now. Made it through the sewers and up to Firelink shrine, then forgot to lock on with my halberd and accidentally "attacked" off the edge of the stairs into the abyss.
Sigh.
Sometimes I wonder if I have the patience for this game.
(also, wow is the online community for this game full of some of the most toxic people I have ever come across!)
Still, it's amazing when you succeed, but I wonder if I have the patience required to gain these successes. And I say this as someone who beat the jetbike level of Battletoads as a kid.
Killed it, and got enough souls for the crest for the forest gate into the bargain. Phew. Now I just need to find the door to Blighttown. Might just do some generic exploration first though. Have a feeling there's places I haven't been yet like the forest.
Tempted to go back and give Bloodborne another go, but it just didn't seem like a game for me. Then again, I didn't give it much of a try as I only beat the Cleric Beast before I stopped playing. I'm wondering if it's because I never played Dark Souls II or anything before jumping into Bloodborne so I didn't know what to really expect...

Good stuff, I need to go back an finish it.
Scout (which is a basic trooper with a rifle and a fuckton of movement).
After a somewhat anti climatix boss fight at the end of IWD my elven party are prepared to embark on the expasion pack for said game.
The boss fight was over realy before it started, my sorceres got a series of powerful curses followed by a silly amount of magical spells that took most of its health. Then my Paladins hacked him appart.

I got to the Ornstein and Smough fight and just could not win. I got super close but couldn't do it. Just can't care anymore. I don't like rpg's too much and the difficulty is something I'd only really deal with in an RTS or turn based strategy game (which is why I could reliably beat impossible ironman runs of xcom: enemy unknown/within).
Seriously the music for that boss fight though nice brings back awful memories.
If you played a beefy char, you could just tank/estus the crap out of super Ornstein. For more easymode, hire Solaire and some random guy
From my first playthrough I remember that Orstein and Smaug were especially hard if you played with keyboard and didn't have any mods for aiming, because the system would automatically switch targets when those two started jumping around, thus messing all the view and getting rekt in turn.
Played some Hatred today. Last time I played it when it was just released. Has some pretty fun new additions, but the AI is still crap. Torching people is sooo entertaining
Well on my first playthrough I made it 3 days before being mauled to death by a wolf (right by a bloody rifle too). Everything was going well. I'd just recovered from almost starving to death; having returned to a cabin I'd been to before in the hops I wasn't as good as I thought I was at looting. Turns out I had missed an MRE under a bed, which filled me from near zero calories to full.I leave the cabin, backtrack some more and find some more food, turn a corner and woo boy, a load of loot just sitting there.
...And a wolf.
Mt thought? Well I'd met a wolf already, but managed to sneak by it. Well this one wasn't having that, and seeing as I'd dropped my flares in the cabin there wasn't much chance of scaring it. As neither the hatchet or hunting knife I'd picked up wanted to magic themselves into my characters hand ("you don't have any weapons", as I spammed the equip key). I did what was logical.
I pummeled the "fight back" button, the little bar on the screen filled up. At 90% things went awry. "Wait, those status effects are pilling up. Why is the screen going all red? Why is the progress bar going down?! Jennifer Hale why are you making those noises?!" ...*spamming random interface buttons at this point*. "Ah hell...".
Fade to black.
Then back to a red haze. "Huh?". Out comes the first aid kit as I sit at 7% health.
For you see, I was in fact playing Will Ferrell's character from Austin Powers ("I'm not dead, just very badly mauled")... Hmn, he did go out into the Alaskan wilderness one time IIRC.
The wolf had retreated, my wounds were healed. 3% health. "Wait... No. Ack. What is that? Oh god no!"
A second wolf then came into my character's blurred vision and mauled them to death.
Its at this point I then remember the exact same thing happened to a guy in a Youtube video I had watched of the same location yesterday.
So, a decent enough game, and a typically noobish experience. For an early access title there's plenty enough there if you're into the straight survival aspect. Its due a story mode though, but, at least in the case of this one title, I can see the devs actually bothering their arses to get to that point (compared to the atypical early access shovelware you find on Steam).
Maybe if I play it enough I'll learn what the "stab the wolf to death" key is...
Started up a campaign of commander difficulty in ironman mode of xcom 2 again. This time was going for the no squad upgrade achievement (meaning you can only have 4 guys instead of up to 6 in late game). After hours and about 3 months into the game it is a failed game. I'm pretty angry. It's hard enough playing that game as is but no squad upgrade just makes it all so much worse. I could've maybe succeeded a mission or two but summoning a codex completely prevented that. Sure I almost won but the fact so many of my guys on hand were 'shaken' means they pee their pants at every possible moment. With 4 guys it just practically assures it'll be that much harder. Perhaps I should've used more mind shields early on or at least on 'shaken' units like a friend suggested once (a good idea actually)?
The sad bit is the early month or two into the game wasn't so bad but the lack of squad members really shows. Maybe I should change up my build plan. After all with no squad size upgrade there's no real point in getting guerilla training school so early. Perhaps i'll go either lab first or proving ground first. The resistance comms are needed though and tend to be my 3rd building since power is the 2nd building. Eh well i'll try again another time but it's very late and I need to sleep now.

Gotta love the Dark Souls series - It can be a frustrating bitch of a game, but very few gaming experiences give the thrill of a kill like Dark Souls does. I completed DS1 2 times, DS2 4 times and now I'm just waiting for DS3, which comes out April 12th.
In the meantime I have been playing these two games:
- Bloodborne (Completed it like 6 times and got the platinum trophy)
- Dragon Age: Inquisition (On my 4th playthrough now, after having soloed the game on Nightmare with a rogue - Time to try and solo as a Sword'n'board warrior).
Come April 12th though, all other games will be scrapped for Dark Souls 3. Can't wait!
Wanted to get that MMORPG-like feel, but this whole, "take on the Elder Scrolls games in order," thing is starting to become a bit tiresome (especially when the first one demands quite some grinding to get through). Probably going to install either Morrowind or Daggerfall. Maybe Skyrim when I've cleared some space on my hard drive.

At times there's a feeling of "Is this actually relaxing?!?" because I get so tense playing it I practically get a headache. But you're right - victory is much sweeter when you have to work hard for it.
Funny thing is, I've played all of the games in the Dark Souls series (all the way from Demon Souls), and I've never beaten any of them. Oddly enough, I still consider it my favorite game series
was the last survivor of my team, we stood 0-2 and I took a careful approach in trying to take the enemy out
guess i should've barged in and died, that's a better way to lose for my team than to take care when approaching and by scouting ahead with a drone because while possibly still allowing a win also costing time
Pretty mad, actually. These kids should just go back to Call of Duty where they can yell at everyone they're a "cigarette".
This time I spawned outside a ranger station. Yay. I then found some cabins. Yay. And a trapper camp. Yay, and another Ranger Station. Yay.
...Then I ran out of fuel.
And it was night.
...
Knowing the area, I set out for some lakeside cabins. Dawn broke, but then the mist rolled in. Then I discovered that the lake was apparently wolf central.
I lived, sans a pare of jeans and most of my character's health. Despite that I was pretty geared (note the past tense).
With bugger all health less, cold (you can wear a parka, and winter gloves, but neither help if your trousers are full of holes and blood) I was determined to make it the nearby dam's maintenance building.
On the way I came across a wolf by a hunting blind. It was eating a rabbit. In Metal Gear Solid level stealth I snuck into the blind and came away with a load of food.
The going was good. I even found a rifle.
The Dam was close, I could see the door by now (I was even planning moving to the next area). Then I heard it. A wolf had come out of nowhere and was right behind me. Pulling out a flare I threw it and ran.
I was inside. I checked the place outside. Decent loot, but not much other than I already had. All I was concerned about was lighting up a fire and catching some sleep.
Fade to red as the wolf came out of the dark and mauled me to death.
SO just started Valkyria Chronicles. It's very different from anything I've really played before, a cross between Turnbased and Realtime stratagy and Third Person shooting. I like it
Also to try out the last stand last night. That was fun with the new Necron Lord
Well the old hand to hand combat presumably made wolf fights a lot harder. I killed two in a row at the lake today (it was misty, so after sleeping in a hut I came out to a clear day with two dead wolves on the porch).
No idea where that thing came from though... I guess it spawns in one of the side rooms considering in the few seconds I was in there I'd searched all the rooms bar the hallway to the generators and one cupboard (for the express reason of checking for scares). Good to know for future reference though, as were I to spawn in that area it'd be one of the first places I'd check (even if the loot's not amazing).
...Which brings me to the question: where do trousers spawn? Heh, I found four jackets, three sets of gloves, two hats and two sets of boots, but no replacement trousers. Oh RNG... I suppose the clothes on the dead guys have frozen solid, or maybe Canadians just starch their trousers to the point you need to saw them off?

Nah, the game's just letting you know that you need to lose some weight. The waist on those dead guy pants is too tight to fit you.
Tried another run of commander ironman with no squad upgrades. It seems to be going well despite one setback and the avatar progress going so fast. Right now I have to assault a facility just to slow them down some. I would've done it sooner but a bunch of guerilla ops happened. Also due to one tile space I managed to get my super sniper captured (tried to capture an enemy VIP and succeeded but at a price) so for now I have to deal with a crappy one.
Other than that I think I'm in either end of may or june and I have pretty much all tier 2 gear and had all the big tier 2 gear (main weapons and armor) since about may 12-14th in the game. Anyway the game is going well for the most part.
At least on the plus side if this run goes well I may be able to free the soldier that got captured.
Playing Valkyria Chronicles,
I meet Wilkin, "Oh hi Kakashi!"
Came across random thug soldier "Steve Blum my man!"
Hiring scouts when "Gaara! Hey!"
On that subject I swear I heard a roommate playing a ww2 game that had marcus fenix as one of the soldiers. It's like jeez I guess he couldn't get enough war in one world. Alternatively maybe Bender went back in time a little too far that one episode.
Doing a second playthrough of System Shock 2.This time, I thought I'd do it in the style of a let's play. I'm talking to nobody of course, since I'd actually be too nervous to put a video up there, but despite how awkward it sounds, it's strangely making it fun.

Utter nonsense.
They're probably off doing calibrations or something...
I started Bloodborne again. Despite my initial impressions of it maybe not being for me, I'm kind of hooked now. Defeated the Cleric Beast on my first try somehow, then proceeded to get destroyed by Gascoigne like 5 times before I beat him. Upgraded Kirkhammer may have helped there. Kind of excited to see what's next but also worried.

A little tip; Bring fire paper for the next bosses - There's an optional one and a mandatory one as the next step. Both are weak to fire
Wahahaha. Killed the three cats (three at once? Well now I feel zero guilt for exploiting the pathing and hiding in the trees with my halberd!) in the forest and took on the ginormous butterfly. Surprisingly easy boss!
Nearly psychologically ready to head into Blight Town. But gonna do a bit more exploring and looting here- there's a couple of items I haven't found yet I'm sure.

I hate cats.
When you're ready get stuff to cure poison and a lot of it.
I've got a pile of purple moss and blooming purple moss. Killed the dude in the watchtower and the hydra (that was like a zelda boss, not up to the usual standard of Dark Souls!).
Been messing around in the Valley of the Drakes, killed a few Drakes, but might head for Blight Town now.
Feeling pretty jubliant, which means Blight Town will probably be horrible and crush my soul.

I think annoying in the sense of getting poisoned constantly and navigating a huge maze would be the best descriptions for it. If you hate both all I gotta say is "Have fun man :( !".
After playing some Dropzone Commander last night, I was in the mood for some Supreme Commander. Spent most of the evening constantly restarting a skirmish. - Had gone for a fight against an 'adaptive ai'.
And done badly. Switched tracks and went for a 'turtle ai' and... it ended up being kinda too easy. Ok, sure, I was getting shelled to pieces, practically without noticing. But... after an hour and 10 minutes, the AI hadn't build a nuke defence. So, I'd launched a nuke, hoping to panic it...
Ended up taking out both the main enemy base with it, but they're commander too.
Started playing xcom 2 again today. Lost some vets but got enough replacements. Lost my two online friends as rookies of all times. One was killed by a muton or something getting shot by him and the other was captured. Also considering my 2 other soldiers were badly injured and once again by one space of movement I couldn't rescue the VIP which was that experienced soldier from before and count me freaking pissed. Least my vets lived and so far I think it's the only mission I for sure failed. Sadly I also lost a contact region because of the failed council mission though I quickly regained it. It sucks as I would've gotten that experienced sniper back and he had intel.
I also lost at least one experienced soldier per mission (lieutenant level each one I think) in certain missions. At least 2 of them were grenadiers.
I have managed to win missions though and most of the base is excavated. I also recently got a full squad of good 4 experienced soldiers at least at full health and they're starting to sport plasma gear mostly because my engineers and scientists are increasing significantly. I do have to say my supplies are somewhat on the small side so I will be changing that when possible.
I find it funny that my ranger has 45 dodge or so meaning 2-3 shots on him even when flanking him have only grazed him which sucks when it happens to you but funny when it happens to your opponent (it's like damaging and failing to crit. except worse).
Avatar progress has been curbed somewhat. I'm 3 bars down from full avatar progress and one of their 2 facilities is about to be sabotaged. Their main one is in Australia because aussies are secretly evil I guess.
Anyway I have to eat and then go to bed so maybe tomorrow I will see more progress. Hopefully this 4 man commander ironman run works out. It's fairly amazing I've handled things so well this far even.

Thanks for the tip, helped a lot with the Blood-Starved Beast. I managed to kill it on my first attempt, though it's poison did kill me almost immediately after I killed it as I used all my antidote during the fight. At least I got the chalice off the corpse before it happened.
Stuck on Amelia now, however. I wrecked the Hemwick boss (is it supposed to be that easy?) with no issue but Amelia is almost at the point of frustrating me, I think I've died around 8 times? I don't quite get it, either. Even with a +5 Kirkhammer with some gems on it that add more damage and cause slow poisoning I can't seem to get her down past 1/3 health before she mauls me, even with fire paper thrown into the mix the damage seems too low. I'm thinking her HP is ridiculously high or something, at least I won't let her heal with all these numbing mists I have. I guess it's just a case of 'git gud' and maximum effort...
Maybe I should see about upgrading my saw spear to +4 at least and see if that offers an improvement. Doubt it will, but we'll see.
Scholar of the First Sin. Having Fun on the Frigid Outskirts ... damn I hate this level.
I'm not looking forward to fighting the two cats as the one was pain enough. I've beaten the Ivory King though, that was pretty cool. I've only got a few more things to do then I have finished the game in its entirety. My chest will swell with pride, then I can put the game in to the darkest recesses of my mind

Vicar Emelia is a fight of attrition - She has a lot of hitpoints and she can heal herself later in the fight (when she prays, throw the mist grenade). Fire is effective against her, but she will be the biggest challenge you face up to that point - Compared to when you meet her, her hitpoint pool is immense, so you are not wrong in your assumptions.
Stay behind her and get those dodges in. If she faces you, run around her - She is deadly from the front.
And yes, the Hemwick boss is a cakewalk in the first playthrough. It get's more annoying in NG+, but it's overall one of the easiest bosses in the game.

Against Vicar Amelia I turned the music off as that twinned with her constant screaming did my nut in. I found it easier after that
Saw weapons have a passive bonus against stronger beast types so yeah, that might help, especially with fire papaer. You'll do it though, I found her pretty tricky as well to begin with but when you get in the flow and can recognise her attack pattern she's a doddle. You're doing the thing with the Numbing Mists which I totally forgot about on my first play through and I managed to beat her. Nothing like making things harder for yourself.

That bad? I've started playing slightly before WoW promo was announced, however that was related to Frozen Throne nostalgia and not having PC when the game came out. As it turned out, the game might have been great in its time, now it's really not worth the monthly subscription. It's probably different, if you're in a guild and doing co-op dungeon raids.
I do hope Blizz does something similar for other portraits.

People with "Heirloom" gear will one-shot you and then just camp you at the graveyard where you respawn in a Battleground.
To be honest, it's been like that for as long as I can remember. Even before heirlooms, you just got people in twink gear, and you still do now because a decent amount of it is still flat-out better than heirlooms for the same slot.
PvP, especially in the first 10-19 rung, has been a case of who has the better connection, the faster reactions, the better hotkeys and macros, and the most money for gear for a long while, certainly since before heirlooms. The main thing heirlooms do now in PvP is give more people a fighting chance.

Not at all.
I'm decked out in some decent quest gear as a warrior, yet enemy hunters of the same level in heirloom gear have four times as much health as I, I get one-shot by rogues in heirloom gear, etc. Heirlooms give much more of an advantage than reflexes - apparently some of them let you negate 50% of all damage at level 10-19!

Like I said, this issue existed before heirlooms did. The only difference is that heirlooms are easier to come by than most twink gear. You're also complaining about easily two of the more OP classes at low-level PvP. I'm not saying that heirlooms don't give advantages, just that they're really nothing new. The only difference between them and twink gear is that more people have heirlooms.
