a lone space marine is stalked by a predator in the empty ruins of a 40k city (think an empty Armageddon)

the predator is from the Predator/AvP expanded universe (i.e. novels, comics, and video games)
in other words, he's much better than the movie predators (sort of like the difference between marines from the recent Ultramarines movie and marines from Black Library novels)

- the predator is an elite veteran hunter (around 500 years experience)

- the marine is a veteran assault squad sergeant (from your favourite SM chapter)

predator physical stats
height: 8'2" or 2.5m (see novel AvP Prey)
weight: ~500lbs

predator equipment
dual shoulder cannons, smart disc, pole-arm, proximity mines, dual wrist blades
near-invisibility, multiple vision modes, amplified hearing

marine physical stats
height: 8'0" (tends to vary depending on the authour)
weight: I'm guessing around 1000lbs in power armour

marine equipment
chainsword, bolt pistol, frag grenades, combat blade
power armour

who wins?
please try to cite sources in your argument when claiming specific feats

VS.

Pred wins. The invisiabilty keeps him safe and then 2 plasma shots cut through PA like butter.

can't the sensory capabilities of the marine's helmet counter the predator's cloaking?

Yeah. Plus, we don't know how the Predator's plasma weapons compare to Imperial plasma weaponry.

I should add "assume that the predator and the space marine are familiar with the capabilities of the other"
it's a game of cat and mouse (neither side is always the cat or always the mouse)

coolyo294 wrote:Yeah. Plus, we don't know how the Predator's plasma weapons compare to Imperial plasma weaponry.

let's assume that the predator's shoulder cannons are as powerful as the plasma pistols used by SM

The weapon on the shouder is known as a plasma caster. It has 3 modes.
Burst Plasma-explodes with shrapnel. As seen on TV
Incindiary
Dark Plasma
controlled bursts of antimatter fired at the target in a manner that causes the damage output to be increase due to mass.It can kill anything in 10 shots or less.

The predator can also set up mines, through the armour cleaving disc, the spear, and is armed with blades designed to cut through plates.

The marine only has a knife and a chainsaw.

The helmet may or may not detect it.roll for night fighting and find out.

And even if the marine wins, the Pred just nukes the place and still wins overall.

could you cite a source for this?
I am a huge predator fan so I can see the predator winning, but I have never heard of "bursts of antimatter" from a shoulder cannon

The marine only has a knife and a chainsaw.

don't forget the bolt pistol (and all the extra ammo a marine usually carries with him)

The helmet may or may not detect it.roll for night fighting and find out.

lol

From the game,AVP extinction which gives very detailed description of all predator weapons. It was not continued in any other source, but any race that can make plasma hold it's density long enoughn to reach a target would sure as hell be able to make it armour penetrating.

cool...antimatter should have no trouble hurting even a power armoured marine

yes, I don't see any reason for assuming that predator plasma guns would be weaker than 40k plasma guns

Also remember that the Predator would have much quicker reactions,as they can strike leaping facehuggers. From AVP,Ex and as seen in AVP the movie.

I thinkl a 40k profile for it would be

WS5
BS5
S5
T5
W2
I6
A4
Ld10
sv4+ with regeneration

vs one Marine? the Pred.

vs a Deathwatch Kill-Team? These guys bag xenos for breakfast. Dead Pred.

They're both extremely strong, able to take large amounts of damage, and both have powerful weaponry... but 1v1, I think the Yautja will come out on top. They're hunters, plain and simple. 1v1... as good as a Space Marine is, the Yautja will wear him down and set up a fatal ambush.

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.

do you guys think the predator's blades would be able to cut through SM power armour?

I'm leaning toward "yes" because Ork and Kroot blades seem capable of penetrating SM power armour

The predators shoulder caster did not manage to to anything to Danny glover when he was wearing the steel plate inside his body armor, so I would imagine vs the ceramite and adamantine armor of a space marine, it would be less than effective. Also, does power armor register a heat signature? If not the marine would be just as invisible to the predator as the other way around. I'd give it to the marine, especially if using black library fluff alone as the source. BL marines are OP.

1) that projectile came from a weapon mounted on the predator's wrist gauntlet, NOT from the predator's shoulder cannon
2) shoulder cannons vary in power
3) the OP specifies novels, comics, and video games, so we're not referencing movie predators

Also, does power armor register a heat signature? If not the marine would be just as invisible to the predator as the other way around.

I would imagine that power armour does give off heat, however the predator has multiple vision modes, one of which is called "tech vision", which is used to spot other predators and enemies using advanced tech

They, according to AVP,EX,have a mode known as electrovision. It detects electronic signals, allowing him to see electricty. It also allows him to see the bioelectrical nervous system of an Alien.

There's some kind of reactor in there, so I'd assume so. It would generate a lot of heat.

tech vision is a separate vision mode though
it shows up in the game Predator Concrete Jungle and I think it shows up in the AvP1 and AvP2 PC games

oh sorry.I wasn't saying they were.I was jut saying even if they couldn't see heat of the suit, they would be able to see the electrical pulses.

yeah, either way, I doubt that power armour doesn't give off heat...it has to be powered by some sort of reactor

PA is powered by a nuclear reactor in the backpack.

I'd compare the Predator more to a Dark Eldar Wytch than anything else. Poison weapons would reflect the ease at which the Predator weapons cut through metal.

I also don't think the Predator would have problem finding a Space Marine. Power Armor isn't designed to be stealthy.

interesting, but isn't that rather dangerous for allies around them

The radiation is contained within the reactor.Even if it did leak, the radiation would mutate the kids so little,it wouldn't be any different to other mutatuions in 40k

The reactor would be well protected, and the explosion of the reactor that size with probably be the marine himself, with a few hundred yards of small shockwaves.

ah
btw does the SM codex mention nuclear reactors is it a Black Library idea?

No,the only referances are to power sources housed within.
