This thread is full of everything awesome. I always loved the fluff behind the Genestealer Cults. One of my favourite stories was in one of the 2nd edition books. I think it was either Wargear or Codex Imperialis. And these guys fit the image I have had in my head perfectly.

The Magus is great, quite different to the GW miniatures produced in the past, but very good, and well painted!

Thanks! Which story are you referring to in particular, I am curious!

You'll get a lot of BA and their succesors sometime in 2012, I promise! Thanks for looking through the entire thing, quite a daunting task at this point!!!

I will post a pic of him next to a classic Magus one of these days, there isn't too much different between them actually other than the lobstered plating... otherwise it is updated and larger, but they don't clash which I was quite relieved about!

Thanks very much as always guys... I am surprised no one has commented on the size of the staff though, it was a criticism during the sculpting stage... do you guys find it ok looking now that it is painted?

Magus looks great Tom. Fantastic looking model. For painting did you use your spiffy Micron on this or was it all brush work?

The staff looks perfect Tom, but then again i was one of the ones who was far too amazed at how you managed to sculpt it so small to think about its size!

I promised, I have been building things... droppods... 5 contemptors... the BA coalition will happen! I only AB'd on a zenithal highlight pass at the very beginning to guide my shading, other than that, he is all brushwork and glazes -

Could have been a touch smaller, but overall, I kinda like it big, may not be ultra realistic, but it makes him stand out!

Thanks guys!

Amazing work! Really has the RT feel to it and is a stunning representation of the old artwork. Well done!

It makes me miss my Genestealer Cult all the more. *sigh*... I hate 5th Ed.

Staff looks great painted, don't see any issues with the size of it. To me, it looks like both a standard and a staf, like a rallying point.

A year and a half later, something new, or at least, finally finished - my last magus, the juvenile is done. I got tired of looking at it sitting there barely started. This model completes my original plans and run for this project, although an Arvus lighter gunship conversion and a classic seated patriarch may eventually come into the mix, they were not part of the original, longrunning set.

So here he is -

A close up of the base, which I really liked the colors of...

And the group shot... my previous custom Magus and the classic metal painted by Sigur and myself. I look back on those and see just how badly I was unable to show proper contrast in a lot of places, particularly on the big custom Magus' robes as an example... glad I've improved at least, mostly thanks to tips from a few very talented painters. You can also see that the new juvenile is significantly smaller than a GW model, much trickier to paint!

Wow... thanks guys... I remember when I was lurking here myself and a few blogs really drew me in too. It is very humbling to be on the other end of the equation. Thanks for looking and thanks very much for your interest!

*NOTE - There is only one exception to necro'ing a dormant thread, painting and modelling stuff. Models and techniques can always be new to someone, if you have questions you can always post something if you would really like an answer or just to say you like it, no harm done, if no one else is interested the thread will quickly sink anyways.

Awesome work as always Tom, my only issue is how bright that highest fold on his cloak is, and it seems almost distracting (to me), and the brown of his shoe. I realize it's just a shoe but it just seems like it's also just brown.

But overall, I love the model, and it's very cool to see how you've progressed with this project

THANK YOU!!! lol

There are quite a few issues with the paintjob, not sure I have a huge problem with the shoe, but that highlight if we are talking about the same one is over the top for sure. Thanks for taking the time to help me improve

I know we were talking earlier about critiquing paintjobs , and while I do love the model, and it is wonderfully done, I just had some personal issues with it. Hopefully it won't be a year before we see the next thing from this project (Though if it's complete, perhaps time to article it?)

There are exactly 3 more things to do for this, The arvus lighter gunship conversion, The seated patriarch classic model, and I can't believe I forgot (but I can because it scares the crap out of me) Dantenator.

No matter what that will be it for the Spacehulk era. If GW releases hybrids as rumored sometime in the future, and if by some chance in hell my models are compatible for 40k play (though I probably effed myself with the roundlip bases) then maybe I would pick it up again at some point.. The BA will continue certainly although they will be a slow burn. It was a great, great learning experience and when I started this, I hadn't been involved in the hobby in 10 years... a lot can happen in 3 years!

Been MIA for awhile now...work, school and personal life has kept me from wanting to pick up an airbrush/brush for some time now. Still have everything though and will pick up right where I left off someday
