Haha, contradictory fluff in the same paragraph.
Kaldor Draigo is the Supreme Grand Master of the Grey Knights and a warrior beyond reckoning. As a lowly Battle-Brother he banished the Daemon Prince M'kar the Reborn and he has risen steadily through the ranks to become the Grand Master of the most secretive Chapter of Space Marines. Yet ever since his battle with M'kar, Draigo has been cursed to a life within the Warp, doomed to walk within the Realm of Chaos. To remain pure when constantly assailed by Chaos shows such fortitude and personal strength that it is beyond measure. But while Draigo lives, he will prevail and one day, he will return.
So he banishes a Daemon Prince, and gets stuck in the warp. While stuck in the warp, he rises through the ranks to be the chapters Grand Master. So like... they just have no Grand Master in real space at all?
It made me laugh.
Bless Mat Ward, fine purveyor of fluff.
unfortunately for all the haters in this thread, it's not ward's fault. the leaked codex talks about two separate fights over a century apart and is internally consistent for the few details we have. the crappy description above is from the webstore entry for draigo and is written by joe no-name, assistant to the vice-nobody of web programming.

Wow is somebody cranky because he stayed up past his bedtime to see new grey knights come out?
I think the poses on his custom grey knights are as cool or cooler than the action poses of the current grey knight release. Talk about dynamic posing.
Speaking of posing... why havent people photoshopped the dreadknight in some interesting poses already!!?

I have to agree with many people here, I'm less than impressed by the Dreadknight. The storm raven and now the dreadknight both feel like they were forced into the SM lineups without really considering how they fit in. The SMs have a bluky, industrial feel to their vehicles. The Storm raven is close, but feels too much like a forced, paired down thunderhawk than a proper vehicle. The dreadknight just come from no where. Massive exposed pistons, exposed terminator odd design. While the Grey Knights do lean more towards elegance than most Imperial factions, this fails to fit in either spot of tough elegance or tough industrial. I want to like it, I really do, but I can't help but feel that the last two additions to Space Marines of any flavor give any other impression than forced appeal. They're trying too hard to be liked by rules, or random over-the-topness.

Power Armour Grey Knights
I'm making the assumption that the guys in full Silver are the Strike Squad members (and by extension the Purgation Squad as well), and that the white-helmeted GK's are the Purifiers. The dudes with the Sci-Fi Radios are the Interceptor Squads, obviously.
The Good:
Great kit. Love the options.Glad to see the Falchions.Details are good and they don't differ too much from the current models.White helmets make the Purifiers look fething awesome.Psilencer looks pretty cool, and I'm glad I know what it looks like finally. The Incinerator looks cool.I like the Teleport Backpacks. They're pretty nifty.Lots of bits. Very nice. The Nemesis Deamonhammer is wicked! Two Psycannons per box is a nice touch, but it's also sad because...
The Bad:
... the new Psycannon looks like ass. Terrible redesign, doesn't look nearly as chunky, and the ammo box is goofy. Two Halberds per box? Are you kidding me? Unless they're suddenly limited to two per squad (which is gonna piss a LOT of existing players off) then that's just criminal. There's something that's... 'off' about their heads. I think it's the paint job though rather than anything technical.Only 7 heads. That's kinda pathetic. Why are they carrying daemon heads? How does that even make sense?
The Ugly:
The paint job and posing on some makes them look out of proportion and far too cartoony. The eyes don't help either - and that's probably what's making their heads look 'off'.The magazines on the Storm Bolters. They look ridiculous. Great big exaggerated over-sized clips sticking out the side is by far the worst design decision about this entire kit. They're horrible!
Grey Knight Terminators:
The Good:
Really love these guys!Loads of great weapons options!Falchions for the whole unit.Halberds for the whole unit.A really great looking Daemonhammer. The Warding Stave is nice... if a little Eisenhorn-y...The Apothecary bits are great, and will be found in other armies that can still take Apothecary Termies, like Deathwing (I think)The Squad leader is great. The Incinerator and Psilencer both look beefy! The banner is cool.Termies don't looks stupid with two swords, which I was afraid of.Bits galore! As I said, love this kit
The Bad:
Psycannon looks better here, but still terrible. Don't know why they redesigned it that way. It looks really stupid.Again with the holding Daemon-heads? What gives? The Storm Bolter magazines look better here. Not 100% on board with the concept, but whatever. They're not super-sized like the PAGK, so it's mostly ok.I really can't tell what's meant to be a Paladin and what's not... they're not distinct enough in my mind.
The Ugly:
Again, the heads. Someone made the comment that they looked like someone had made heads out of regular Termy heads, and they're right. They've got big chunky face grills/cheeks and it really stands out compared to the other ones. That said, I actually think it makes them look more aggressive. It's ugly, but it's good ugly! The banner says 'Nemesis'. Yeah, we get it, Nemesis in this book is like Blood in the Blood Angel book. Enough already!
Draigo:
The Good:
He looks great. Wonderful detail. Very impressed. With his helmet he looks amazing.
The Bad:
Without his helmet he doesn't look so hot.
The Ugly:
His fluff. Someone take Ward's computer away now!!!
And finally... *sigh*
Nemesis Dreadknight:
The Good:
Umm...Uhh...Well...Err...This is hard man!Ok, that sword is just boss. I love the sword. I'm totally down with the whole 'sword' thing. Yeah. What else... what else...Oh! The Heavy Psycannon and the Gatling Psilencer and especially the Heavy Incinerator, they're really great!And... uhh...There's gotto be something... the pilot looks better with the helmet... but better in the same way that hammering one nail through your hand is better than hammering two nails through your hand, so maybe that shouldn't be under 'good'.
The Bad:
It's too tall. It's too spindy. The legs looks stupid. The wording on the legs is daft. The pilot looks absurd, just hangin' there like an idiot. The big hydraulic crane/arm thingies look stupid.Look at how the heavy weapons are positioned... how the feth does it punch when the barrels of its guns stick out in front of its much-vaunted Doomfists? Why is he wearing Terminator armour? If you stare out it and tune out the pilot it looks like a headless mascot for an auto-repair company or something you'd see in a Pixar film. It's not Chibi-Hawk bad, that's for sure, but it's bad. This isn't good folks. They should know better by now.Still, all that said, I believe this model salvageable. How, I'm not sure, but I'm sure that something can be done. It's mostly the legs though.
The Ugly:
That, sir, is not a 'Nemesis DOOMFist'. That's a Nemesis Piece-of-Gak. They're not Dreadnought Close Combat weapons. There's nothing DOOM-like about them.Pathetic.The Daemonhammer is really weedy. After the awesome might of the Nemesis Great Sword (and it lives up to that name), the Hammer is a serious disppointment - it just looks like a regular Marine Thunder Hammer. Boring! The non-helmeted head. Why????
Overall Impressions:
The Power Armour Grey Knights are a 6/10. The sculpts are fine, their paintjob on the Strike Squad makes them look worse than they are, and the lack of Halberds for the whole unit is a major oversight. It would be 9/10 but the stupid new Psycannon causes it to lose a point and the jumbo-sized Storm Bolter magazines knock two points off. They're awful.
The Grey Knight Terminators are a 9/10. They are certainly different from the existing metal ones, but not too different. I like the chunkier heads to be honest.
Everything about Draigo (the model) is awesome. Everything about Draigo (the character) is ball-tearingly stupid.
The Dreadknight... I dunno... if you can do more than just have it stand there looking all gaunt and stupid, then maybe it can be saved. If not, then it's another terrible waste of a slot on the yearly plastic frame quota.
Conclusion:
I feel another Chamber Militant coming on, and this time one that actually has rules!
ph34r wrote:Draigo on the other hand is a huge win.
I know. Doesn't his pose just scream " I'll carve my name into your heart... and then single-handedly defeat all of Chaos!"
Like you're breakdown.
Also, I agree. The storm bolter clips look terrible. That will be the first thing to get customized.
On the plus side you have a ton of bitz to choose from.

Because clearly, every Daemonic incursion that the Grey Knights will respond to is led by a Daemon Primarch, whose the right hand of one of the Ruinous Powers themselves.
Please. The only reason "hundreds of our insanely rare, extremely needed, and hard to train brothers" were needed was because of Angron.
Anything else would have just been another boring day at work for the Grey Knights.
Nice logic, a marine is better then a dreadknight Cc-ing deamons only when they are led by angron. Please try harder, I know that you hate the thing but at least try some logical arguments other then yelling "armagheddon" and having that somehow excuse anything ridiculous.
Except now it'll probably be rewritten to 300 Grey Knights and a dozen Dreadknights, a pair of which defeated Angron by shoving him while the other kneeled down behind him.
And to think, the 1st War used to be one of my favorite bits of fluff. :(
Lets hope they dont, that would be a tad to extreme even for GW.
Yeah, maybe it went from $25 to $33 for 5 models...
But now you don't pay extra for special weapons. Special weapons were ridiculously expensive.
Now you get 4 special weapons per box. And weapons options for each guy. And a plethora of other options.
That´s true, although getting 22 boxes will still cost a ton:(
I think most of those are really stretching it. Some of them bum me out too, but I'm not going to let them ruin it for me.
The biggest issues I see are the fluff changes, the loss of BS4 stormtroopers (but the other henchmen changes outweigh this by far in my eyes)
Most of the other ones I don't really care about.
+1
But hey, why dont we start moaning and whining as if GW all of a sudden would have released female space marines, a peaceful clan of orks and a nice cabal of dark eldar.
Talk about over exaggerating things for the sake of whining. Yeah some things sting but other things were added and made better.
Overall from being an unplayable pile of UP dung its made into a playable, even competitive in some forms and extremely varied codex but boo hoo, we lost WS5 and stormtroopers, the world is ending etc.
Nemesis Doomfists.
So is:
*insert-really-cool-word* + blade
ok for IG superheavy tanks?
40k is crawling with cheesy, over the top names, get over it.
Oh, I'm loving the infantry models, it's the Dreadknight that's complete crock.
And the ws5...and the...and the...etc
Keep raging, its amusing.

I like the Dreadknight a lot more than I like the PAGK. The PAGK are quite bad in my opinion, but that's a matter of taste I guess. I want tabards on everyone and those helmets simply don't do it for me. The guns look somehow weird as well.
I like that much better. The long legs on a Dreadnought just looks off.
That's amusing. Seriously, ROFL. If GW ever released something as please don't use this word in this way on Dakka as the 'Ork Dreadknight' or the no-legs Dreadknight posted in this thread I would just drop dead in disbelief. The general quality of models is doing nothing else than going up release after release, but if there's really people out there who can keep a straight face and claim the "couldn't take one step without falling" Dreadnought or "the Space Marine has to be the size of a halfling if he can actually fit inside that power/terminator armour" aesthetics are somehow awesome and that the no-leg Dreadknight variant is better than the official model, I finally understand why there's so much hate on perfectly good or even great models. I wonder how many of those people actually like Orks, which in essence depict malformed retards who have a massively oversized head sprouting out of their chest, a severe skin disorder, atrophied legs, and a speech impediment and who take steroids all day long.

...and now, for some more hilarity, lets take some Charlie Sheen quotes from the past couple of weeks and substitute Grey Knights elements into them.....
"I am on a drug. It's called Kaldor Draigo. It's not available. If you try it once, you will die. Your face will melt off and your children will weep over your exploded body."-Grand Master Kaldor Draigo
"I probably took on more daemons than anybody could survive. ... I was bangin' seven-gram rocks and wasting Bloodthirsters because that's how I roll, because I have one speed, one gear. ... I'm different. I have a different constitution, I have a different brain, I have a different heart. I got tiger blood, man. Dying's for fools, dying's for amateurs."-Justicar Anvil Thawn
On a Grey Knights daily life: "It's perfect. It's awesome. Every day is just filled with just wins. All we do is put wins in the record books. We win so radically in our underwear before our first cup of stimfluid, it's scary. People say it's lonely at the top, but I sure like the view."-Castellen Garren Crowe
"I have a 10,000-year-old brain and the boogers of a 7-year-old. That's how I describe myself."-Failed initiate...now servitor
On how Grey Knights avoid the temptation of Chaos: "I just don't do it. I will not believe that if I do something then I have to follow a certain path because it was written for normal people. People who aren't special. People who don't have tiger blood and Adonis DNA."-Grand Master Mordrak
On how the Grey Knights feel when they consider their old Codex against the new: "I'm tired of pretending I'm not a total bitchin' rock star from Titan, and people can't figure me out; they can't process me. I don't expect them to. You can't process me with a normal brain."-Every Grey Knight from now on

The Dreadknight just seems completely pulled out of GW's ass. The GK use it exclusively for some reason, it looks totally unrelated to any other Imperial war machine, and the legs look a bit goofy. Same with the runes which are just single words instead of sprawling areas of wards.

The Polito form is dead, insect. Are you afraid? What is it you fear? The end of your trivial existence?
When the history of my glory is written, your species shall only be a footnote to my magnificence. |
