DARK ANGELS! WOO!

I'm so excited, it's stupid. But I wonder, do you think they're going to simply merge Dark Angels into Codex: Space Marines?

Has anybody found that page and the guides? I can't find it anywhere.

I haven't found them yet. Maybe they are referring to the new citadel how to paint book?

I also am curious about the new red glaze, that might look good over top of my Mechrite red, I mean "Mephiston red" base coated tyranids.

Has anyone else noticed that both "Fenris Grey" and "Shadow Grey" are now called "The Fang"? Is this a typo or have they merged into two colours? I mean I don't really expect anyone to know this soon after release but i just thought i would point it out.

Fenris Grey was pretty much the same thing as Shadow Grey anyways; just a Foundation Paint.

Orktavius wrote:Reason for the name changes quite bluntly was copyrighting. Even some of the 'copy-rightable' names like Ultramarines blue weren't actually copy-writable everywhere due to the amount of time it's been on the market. So, to ensure they can copyright it all they renamed the lines and are providing you with an easy to follow conversion chart showing you what colors have become what.

You don't copywright names. You're talking about trademarks, not copyright.

And I don't buy the explanation that the paint names have to be trademarked to protect them from other people copying them. If that were the reason, it would have happened a decade ago when Vallejo launched their Game Colour range. Or even before that, when they changed from the Coat D'arms paints which continued to be sold with slightly modified names.

They most certainly have trademarked them all (which leads me to wonder why... if the names are all trademarked words anyway, adding an additional trademark specifically for the paint name just seems like throwing money straight on the fire... but I'm no lawyer, so maybe it makes more sense to someone who knows what they are talking about) but there has to be an explanation for it that makes some sort of actual sense, surely.

I heard 2nd hand (friend who knows someone working in GW's customer service center) that it had gotten to the point that they were fielding more calls about chapterhouse junk than their own.

Then either your friend or the CS guy was telling porkies, because Chapterhouse is nowhere near big enough for this to be remotely likely.

Yes because I'm sure you've never heard your friend tell a story about another acquaintance of theirs and took them at their word that it was a true story. Ironically you probably believe random people on the internet in their assessment of the faults of GW's business operation, despite them not having any specific inside knowledge of company operations.

On topic, I'm quite interested in the new paint line. Definitely need to check out the paints in person, since I need to see exactly what they look like. The sample images on the website aren't always the most reliable.

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

Why do people think that GW has ANY claim to the word ultramarine? They didn't invent them or the color. Both existed before 40k was thought up. GW isn't god. Let it go.

EDIT: or the term Space Marine for that matter. The movie Alien was around way before GW made 40k. And I'm sure it existed before the Alien movies.

Aliens used the term Colonial Marines but I get the point you are making. Even other companies make Ultramarine Blue paints.

For what it's worth, 'Ultramarines Blue' and 'Ultramarine' are not the same shade of blue...

Pretty much the only thing that would have made it annoying. Name changes you can adjust to, the colours being off you could probably deal with too.

I used the paints today, i must say i liked them.

White was pretty good.

I just dont like how everything is labelled 'Base' then 'layer' and so on, i feel it takes away some of the thought put into painting. In saying that the paints are good and easier to use, but for $870 AU i wont be buying the hole set.....

Not being a full follower of the case are the claims made by Orktavius based on one of GW's general reasons for chasing alleged IP infringements, namely the worry that people could contact GW over a third party's unlicenced product. I have no idea if there was a tidal wave of actual complaints. That's why they request your blogs contain a "Unofficial and not endorsed by GW" statement.
