AegisGrimm wrote:Geez, I just checked out the boargamegeek page for SedWars, and I can't believe the bitterness there.
I swear every other thread is about disgruntled people saying they won't back this game because "the Stretch Goals that only affect extras are unfair to the rest of us that are only getting the Biohazard level stuff". The other half is about the rules not being free to download so they can "see what they are getting into".
As if the non-extra stuff we are getting with the Biohazard level aren't good enough? I honestly think all the latest Kickstarter trends are making people greedy and entitled.
It'd be like refusing to buy a White Dwarf because the issue has rules for an army you don't play, and that's unfair because they should only cater to you.
Man, I'm glad everyone on here's being pretty cool about this game.
I found the same thing too when I looked at some of their forum posts, and I was surprised at how cynical or simply odd many of these posts were.
I saw a few of people complaining about how much the game is with all the extras, and acting like they had to buy all the optional extras with the game saw one talking about the $10 extras they were "supposed" to buy).
I also saw someone saying they felt sorry for people who bought the game if it is not good and that they would be left with a bunch of "useless plastic", as if the miniatures could only work with Sedition Wars.

It makes a ton of sense.
I havent pledged yet as I'm self employed. So need to know that I will actually be paid in time and still be able to afford my rent etc. 2 days and I will know! Finding freelance work is always such a drag.
Glad to see the most recent goal move so fast though!
see that makes sense and im kinda in the same boat myself ...but its the ones that say "oh im gona pledge but i want to see what were getting at the end first " i dont understand .

I just realized Sergeant Ramirez is basically the Vanguard trooper with Grenade Launcher. I own a few, was working on my vanguard minis last night and couldn't help but going oh yeah, they already had a vasquez type girl on their website. I wonder if the sculpt will be entirely unique, because the concept art is almost identical to grenade launcher girl except the weapon.

Are the tiles repeats, or are there actually different ones in the pack?
Also I have decided to go for this one over KoW (too late to change my mind now ) and I'm trying to figure out which extras to go for.
Will go for any additional characters (as I did with Zombicide) but I'm wondering if anything is really standing out as must buys?

the box comes with 5 double sided tiles ,,the extra ones you can buy are the same ones . just alows you to play bigger games ,
ive got biohazard and the opticamo set . not that intersted by the extra figs tbh but out of the 4 i think not ripley and not vasqez are the most useable .

The tiles are repeats. The basic game has 5 double-sided tiles (plus the two railcars). This would get you a second set of five (not sure about the railcars... thought it’d be nice to get another two of them).
And left with useless plastic models? Ha - the models and tiles are destined for my Dark Heresy campaign more than anything else. The Strain models will make fantastic mutant adversaries.

Yeah, I'm likely down for We've got movment. Why? Well even if the game is horrible I've got some amazing models to make Wracks (lvl.1 Strain) w/Agoniser sergeant (Wyche models), new & cool hiveguard (brimstones), cool tyrant guard (grendl), and i'm sure I can do something with the rest of the strain. Also I think the vanguard would make some amazing counts-as sisters models.
I'm also getting at least 1 of each bonus model and a terrain pack.

Are the bonus models simply stand-ins for regular models, or will they have different rules / etc? Are the "infected" versions playable differently from normal strain models, or just modelled differently?
As for the different reaction over on BGG- that could come down to us considering it on a "miniatures price scale", and them considering on a board game one. On a minis scale, it looks like a pretty good deal.

I would love to see some firebrand models come out of this kickstarter. Some plastic troops would be great and also inspire me to maybe pick up some of the walker-type machines that they already sell.
I think I will go for the biohazard set, pick up a scenery pack and then wait to see how many character come out and which ones I like the most! Not interested in the opticamo set as I look forward to painting the models the most, neat idea though!

I'm hoping that the strain versions of the extra characters can be played right off the bat, to add characters to the Strain side. I really want the Strain to represent some sort of almost "Borg" feel, rather than just a zombie plague in space.
As for the Power Suits, I am really jonesing for one for Ridley to jump into, lol

Board gamers. They're related to us miniature gamers, but they're not the same as us. The minis are just playing pieces to them - like the shoe or the hat in Monopoly.

Meh.
Every website has its fair share of indignant and entitled haters along with blind sheep fanboys.
Dakka is no different nor is it any superior.
It's all a matter of perspective. Every time a new game comes out, the haters and the otaku crawl out of the woodwork to defend or bash a game... that hasn't even been released yet. Some based on actual playtesting opinions and other based on nothing more than hatred or adoration of [insert name of game designer or game publisher here].
I am sure readers of Dakka are no stranger to this phenomenon.

I'll certainly agree with you and give you that point, but what I said above still bears keeping in mind. I've watched boardgame reviewers' reviews of Dwarf Kings' Hold, Super Dungeon Explore and Dreadfleet all kvetch about miniatures coming in those games that require assembly instead of normal playing pieces.
It's a different hobby with a different mindset and perspective. Lots of crossover, yes, but still different.

It may be true for some cube pushers who expect everything in the game to be playable right out of the box and many of those same people whine about having to punch chits for a game. Lots of extremes that people complain about.
But generally you wont see many "ameritrashers" whining about such. They are used to dollies to the point that they are nearly miniature wargamers in the amount of plastic they deal with. Though there is the oddball now and then who whines about having to glue a Battle lore model to its base...
The mind set and perspective isn't as stereotypical as you might think based on some reviews. There is less of a difference than you may think there is. Tom Vasel (as one example) doesn't speak as the consensus of that website.
[edit]
To give a counterpoint to your example of boardgamers complaining about having to assemble miniatures in a boardgame, I have seen a great game get panned on this site called AT-43 when it first came out because it was preassembled and prepainted. How is that any different than a few people somewhere else complaining about a games components not arriving assembled?
Give it a name. The name is the same.
Again, this site is no different.

Having just read the thread, I'm going to say that the entitlement mentality on show from some posters over on BGG makes me incredulous. I've seen some of the same here on Dakka, but it appears nowhere near as prevalent.
I'm keen on this game for the figures alone. I was down for We've got Movement (2x Biohazard) before it hit any stretch goals or had any extras added. Then again, I'm buying a pile of miniatures I like the look of that also have a boardgame attached. Others maybe buying a boardgame that comes with playing pieces, or the promise of the BEST GAME EVAR. Others are buying some cool looking tilesets that they can use for their other games.
