LMAO, great game. fun looking sculpts, and that additional stuff is really neat.

The Gauntlet. Nuff said.

Is there a difference in the promo metal figs and the plastic ones in the game?

I am mainly asking, cause if the Daemonkin Rogue or the Dwarf Warrior metals are not existing as plastic characters, I would want to grab them now..

All the metal sculpts are in the game as plastic heroes, plus 3 more.

The only exclusive mini right now is the Candy and Cola figure.

Did they re-scale the original metals? When I bought the metals
in 2010 they were larger than the current plastic sculpts.

Yeah, they said at the time those were going to be larger than the final release figs.

Yes, they're bigger. I'm pretty sure the wider-release metals they released a few months after GenCon are the same size as the plastic figures. I only own the first run metals though, so I can't confirm.

Right, but what I'm asking (and didn't clarify, of course) is
did they ever re-scale the metals to match the plastic, or are
all metal sculpts (other than candy and cola chibi) the
larger scale?

Malfred, did you miss my post in between? I didn't really start it relevantly I suppose. I'll try to confirm the size difference next week if no one else can confirm and you can wait.

It's no big deal. I have painted big'uns and new plastics that
have yet to see paint. I just wasn't sure if they ever released
the metals as small'uns.

I was curious because it sounds like some of the posters who
want the board game also think they need to buy the metal
sculpts, so I just wanted to clarify what was out there vs.
what comes in the box.

Thanks for replying, though.

Haven't played it yet, but I was at Dragonmeet in London over the weekend, and my son got a game of Super Dungeon Explore while I was running Dragon Warriors. He's barely stopped talking about SDE since! It would be on his Xmas list, but according to the guys running the demo (Esdevium), all 500 copies shipped in to the UK from the first print run are sold out already!

I can confirm this. If you were an extremely early-adopter, your metal figures are probably 50% larger than the plastic figs with the board games. These were a small, short run. However, there was a general release of metal figures that are the same size as the plastic figures. This was a much larger run. If you bought your metals in a shop, they are probably this same size as the board game figs.

Ixquic wrote:Game was real fun. The models looked better than any other board game I've seen short of Dread Fleet and there were a lot more of them for less dough (unless you count rocks and stuff).

I think it's really good but the problems I had were:
Some of the more obscure abilities are a little unclear (like if you roll a heart, can the rogue use her lucky ability to turn it into a potion)
The map tiles need more clear lines showing walls. We had an argument over whether a something that looked like a railing over a pit was actually a wall or not.
The cards feel really flimsy.
The game seems very stacked against there heroes due to the amount of monsters that can just jam them up. The leads to the boss coming out quickly before enough of the spawning points can be removed and he gets an extra turn for every one left. When he has four attacks per turn and can fly over obstacles this can one shot heroes without much recourse. We only played with three heroes so with larger games this might not be an issue.
The game only comes with one boss and miniboss type. It would have been nice if another was included. I assume there will be more to get but for a starter it felt a little bit lacking in variety.

Overall we had a lot of fun though and it's really cool for a first attempt at a game and while I'm not super into the anime style it was a nice change from generic fantasy that we see in almost every other game.

Overall I agree with some of your comments, but hopefully heres some rules things I think you are missing:

Once the boss gets awoken he gets one additional activation if any spawn points are left. So unless the heros can move really fast chances are the boss is getting two activivations per turn. Not one activation per spawn point left, check pg 28. It says "one additional time per round" not per spawn point.

The wall thing although wierd is actually clear, it says that if it is not a square or a hallway(which is just another square near the board connections) then it is a wall. So that green pit on the tile blocks line of sight just like any other wall. Pg 13 under "wall"

The rogue can change a heart into a potion and vice versa if she rolls it, like a healer gets two hearts if they roll it. not if the druid rolls it and gives it to the rogue or whatever. It says rolls on the card not gets.

These may be incorrect but At least thats what I gathered based on the ten or so games Ive got in so far and having re-read the somewhat confusing rulebook a couple of times and had others read the rules to get a different perspective on what they think they are trying to say. Becuase at the end of the day the rule book does need a little help.

I also do agree the cards could have been a bit sturdier, especially since they are the only location many of the rules exsist. If they are lost or damaged so is your rules set. I already got all clear sleaves for the heros and monsters and am going t buy more for the loot and treasure decks next time Im at a store. I also think some of the dice are little bit lightly printed on some faces and I actually got a couple deformed ones. Other then that though the models are excellent, I think the boards are good, and the game itself is super fun to play. I have enjoyed this game so much actully that I already want an expansion to give that extra flexibility that the consul will need to keep up with all the awesome options the heros get.

Oh cool that boss thing alone makes a big difference, thanks.

Another question: If one player rolls a heart or potion, does every other player get to spend it or does only one person get to benefit? The rules say you can spend hearts even if you didn't roll them but I wasn't sure if "spending" a heart stopped other from doing it.

It's a heart you can allocate to any one person on the team, so you can decide who needs it the most. That's my understanding based on the demo I did, anyway.

Got ourselves a copy today, nice stuff indeed! Was a bit disappointed about the size of the adventurers until I saw the ANGRY BEAR mini. Damn, just damn. Even more so with the mini bosses. Can't wait to give it a try this Sunday.

One problem that I have with SDE is that I have no idea how I'm going to store all those models.

Thankfully - and no I'm not trying to sound like an infomercial - Battlefoam has just come to the rescue. I saw this at TTGN not 2 minutes ago.

I think this may be my first foray into the world of Battlefoam.

Anyone painted them up yet?

I have my chibi heads in a row, and I'm looking over this plastic.

Got the minis, and Candy is pretty cool.

Whats it say when I'm digging something that looks like this.....

All in all very satisfied with the game, its a gem in the rough, but if you can get the plastics squared away I'm a fan, and the additions are eagerly awaited.

If it wasn't clear- The current metals are on par with the game adventures with a little bit of a difference with the slottabases.

Thinking of mounting them ALL on slottabases...

what do you guys think?

Paint jobs like that make me want to buy this game. However, the realist in me knows full well they would be sitting on my to-do list for years waiting for the time to paint them. The pessimist in me knows only too well I would never be able to paint to the level required to do the mini justice. The accountant in me wonders if I can stretch to commissioning someone who can paint to that level. The husband in me knows that my wife would flay me alive if I ever did pay someone to do that...

Gotta say I agree with you on this one. Everything else looks superb, but I think the faces are way too heavily shadowed. Anime tends to be a pretty simple, flat, cell-shaded sort of look, and those proportions with more realistic shading really throw the faces off.

Sweet looking sculpts, thats for sure.

My little chibis are on deck for the weekend. woot woot!!!

I'll start with the board, but there is a foam cored one in my future. Get the foam styro board, then the dungeon parts ala space hulk, next....

Need to find out if they sell more of those game enemy figures, I could really do with some more of those.

I've noticed that too - as awesome as they are the humans do look like they suffer from Progeria. It would be easily fixable/avoidable though, and it gives me a good idea on how to start painting them overall (not that mine will turn out anywhere near as good as his did ...)

Before the game officially released they did a bunch of the models in metal, most of the non-dragon consul models were produced, I'm not sure how easy they are to still find though. Your best bet might be to pick up a second box of the game.
