Did anybody get a chance to try out Druchii violet? If so, how close is it to Leviathan Purple? Cheers.

Good question!

I use this to finish off the armor of my Alpha Legion marines, and I hope it is at least "close" to Leviathan Purple...

That's a negative Ghost Rider. I watered it down until it turned into a thin glaze because I wanted to see if there was any grit in it. It was confirmed by a staffer and several other experimenters who tried the same thing that there is no grit as grit would damage your brushes.

Curious. Then why is it called texture then?

I think it has a thickening agent. The paint itself has a pebbly "texture". I say "texture" as it tends to loose texture the more you brush it on. The idea is to gloop it onto where you want the "texture" and it hardens that way. Adding water seems to cause the thickening agent to break down and the paint turns thin very quickly. It might have uses as previously stated, for use as mud on tanks, but that's all I can think of. Considering how fast it dries when applied, I'm not at all certain how long the pot will last.

Ai. I found it works perfectly on my necrons and orks, to give them a toned down, dirty look.

Ah, therein lies the answer. I like my models, my GK in particular, to look like they have a shower at least once a week.

They only models I would consider it for woldbe Raveners, Trygons, Rippers and Mawlocs, but I have painted them without it and I like them that way.

Jack Bone works better. What's more, you can wash Jack Bone with it, then layer Jack Bone then Bleached Bone on top. Bleached Bone is a great highlight for Jack Bone.

The (admittedly quite fleeting) glance that was in Merritt's preview video showed them pushing and pulling it across a model's base, and then dry-brushing it once done. Gave the effect of a based model. Again, what we saw was quite short, but it looked pretty decent to me.

Devlan Mud was created for people like me – people who have no aptitude nor interest in painting. With Devlan Mud we can trick people into thinking that we know what we’re doing by just doing a base coat and then lathering it on.

There’s a reason it was referred to ‘Devlan Miracle’ and ‘Liquid Talent’.

I sort of agree with you HBMC... It does help people who are lacking in painting skills by providing instant shadows and recess low-lighting, but almost all levels of painters use it, for everything from giving warmth to a color, providing a dirty appearance, modulating texture and all sorts of other things that either aren't possible with regular paints, or a serious pain in the butt.

I hope these shades are as versatile as washes in their range of effect. I use washes mainly to either blur edges and provide contrast, or to change the texture of the paint under it (like washing red gore with baal red. I wouldn't call that a crutch, would you?)

April 7 I believe is the date my local Battle Bunker manager was passing along to customers.

I had a chance to try out the sample jars they had at the store starting this past Saturday. Very nice. If you like model painting it's a great new selection of products and colors, really useful stuff.

As to Devlan Mud, I panicked and picked up all the left over pots of it in my area. Now I have 20! Oy.

No, Devlan Mud doesn't exist any more. Agrax Earthshade, a different formula made by a different company, is a close approximation. How close it is remains to be seen.

Oh I'm not saying that people who are good at painting don't use it - I'm sure they do - I'm just saying that for those of us who can't paint to save ourselves (like me), Devlan Mud was a God-send.

I only picked up a couple of bottles of Devlin Mud to make sure my Skaven army can be done in the same colors I started with. I don't know how much I'll need though. Hopefully the new stuff will work just as well or maybe PP will come out with the equivelant and make us all do the Snoopy Happy Dance.

Yeah, needless to say I don't trust GW and their paint conversion chart. A lot of those new colors that are supposedly matches for the old ones don't actually look anything at all like the old ones, and probably the worst one of all is that dark green that they're calling the new Hawk Turquoise, lol.
