Haha, that's how my first game went! Hope you managed to enjoy it anyway.

Honestly, any other game and I would have beaten the snot out of him;

He: I'm going to shoot you *Rolls 2, 3, and 5*

Me: Ha! ARO! *Rolls 20*

Me: I'm going to shoot at this guy *20, 17, 14*

Him:Ok, I get an ARO now? *3*

One of his models took out my entire force (Was only playing 3 Fusilers against three Nomad starters) because of that. We laughed and joked, saying any other game system and I would have just beaten the snot out of him.

I've actually started to add all the categories and sub-categories for Infinity as well as adding mine in there as a starting article. If you look at the Army Profiles Category page now, you should see a nicely formatted Infinity section. I'll ask about getting it repicated over onto the main Army Profiles landing page tomorrow.

The general instructions for creating articles in the profiles section are actually pretty good. When you create a new page, you can select Army Profile as your starting template, which will give you the main framework to your page and some hints on what to put where.

To add it into the correct categories, you can select from the Categories dropdown list. I'll update this post tomorrow with some more info.

You know, I haven't really taken the time to look through the army profiles before - and there really don't seem to be that many! It wouldn't take much to make Infinity the best supported...

Excellent work - thank you very much for this!

We're well on our way towards making Dakka Dakka into a host for a really good Infinity community!

Whoa, just had a look down the sub-forum threads. We have completely flooded the list with top quality content, soon our active threads will be slipping off the page. I predict a sub forum in our future.

Thanks everyone!

I wanted to throw this out, but I don't think this question quite warranted it's own thread yet (plus it's kind of relevant to the theme of this one).

Would it be a good idea to start an Infinity Opponent Finder thread here (Or just a "Where Are You" sort of thing), or would that be better placed in the "Find a Game" forum? My concern is that a thread like that would be buried by all the 40k / WHFB / HordesMachine stuff over there. I ask because I know for a fact that there are more players around here beyond my regular opponent (my FLGS has sold out of it's stock) but it's been impossible to get in touch with them. DakkaDakka has been a useful tool for me to find others in the past, and I figure it would be a great resource to get us Infinity players together.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but I'm really interested in growing the game on a local level. Doing that requires getting a community together. Doing that requires games to be played. Doing that requires players to get together.

Thanks for listening to / considering / educating me on my clueless question.

"I have concluded through careful empirical analysis and much thought that somebody is looking out for me, keeping track of what I think about things, forgiving me when I do less than I ought, giving me strength to shoot for more than I think I am capable of. I believe they know everything that I do and think, and they still love me. And I’ve concluded, after careful consideration, that this person keeping score is me." -Adam Savage

Thats a really great idea Etna. That's what the Find a Game Sub Forum is for but i think we should put the thread in our sub forum as you suggested. Keeping all of you resources in one place is really beneficial for our community and it will continue to build upon the great atmosphere in this part of the forum.

Would you like me to set up the thread?

Thanks again for the awesome suggestion!

Feel free to set it up. I'll contribute and try to get my regular opponent to join the board do the same. He's already really interested in the painting contest, and it may just be a matter of twisting his arm enough to join a game night. Of course that assumes he can get away from his kids long enough to get a game in...

I digress. I'm glad you like the idea, and I think as long as we called it something like "Infinity Players Sound Off- Where Are You?" it wouldn't be a problem. Maybe I'm just trying to be clever, though.

Good Idea Etna. The Infinity forum itself has a Living database. All it is, is each guy replies with his Dakka name, Country, State, Town. It should stickied think here. I think it's more appropriate here since it's just for this game. Well, I suppose those Malifaux guys too lol.

Too get more people it pick it up, it takes doing demos. I've done a few myself. It's fun just to do them anyway.

I really wish I could do demos to be honest. Unfortunately between working and being a returning student (I should be studying now...) it's hard for me to get out for a game any day but Friday, let alone long enough to run demos. There's supposedly a fellow around here trying to get some HordesMachine players into the game, but I can't seem to get in touch with him for several reasons.

I do have a fully terrained (is that a word?) 4'x4' board designed to be broken down and transported, so assuming we can get people together we'll have a pretty slick looking gaming surface to play on. Yeah, I know the game is supposed to be played on a 6'x4' board, but unfortunately I just don't have enough terrain or two more 2'x2' tiles to form a full board.

Maybe if I get together a gaming group it will inspire me to build / buy more tiles and terrain.

anyone has an idea why these 2 pages are different ?

Might make things harder for new people if it's not fixed (unless it was meant to be this way)

I think anyone can edit the link that endt gave us but we need a mod to edit the official one. I could be wrong though. Endt said he'd pm someone tomorrow to get it sorted.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

For the 'Find an Opponent' page, how about using a system similar to the one on the Infinity boards? So new users copy and paste the previous one, then add their own information? Granted it is a little more messy, but it removes the need for Casey's Law to have to go back amending the opening thread on a constant basis! It's great of you to be doing it now Casey's Law, but I worry about a few months down the road it will become a serious chore!

It might also be an idea to say, "here are the Infinity players of Dakka, for a more expansive list visit the Infinity Forums <link>", which will help stop newbies from looking at the list, saying "omg there are only 2 Infinity players in Europe lol" and then not bothering to start the game.

Oddly enough... guess who looks after the Dakka Gamer catalogue

Whatever we do for the Gamer Catalogue at the moment, it will only need to be a temporary measure as Lego is working on something similar to the Store Finder to allow the gamers to manage their own profiles and list what systems they play.

This morning I've also started creating the framework of a general Infinity section in the site (http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Category:Infinity) as well as fleshing out the Army Profile section a little more. Once we've got a few profiles in the system, I'll go back and and the Spotlight blocks that the other systems have.

If there's anything else you think should be added, just shout.

I will expand my notes on creating Infinity pages at lunchtime... I have quotes and invoices to write/send!

Good points, Pacific. I don't mind doing it for now but if it turns into a chore i'll edit the OP and we can use the other method.

I had completely forgotten it was you until i went to write the thread, endt. As you can see i 'borrowed' your format rather than reinvent the wheel. As you say, the next update is going to probably replace the system so it isn't for ever.

Thanks for dealing with the article stuff, dude. I rarely use that part of the site(hopefully the update will change that) so i wouldn't know where to start. Much appreciated!

I couldn't find another thread for general Infinity discussion, so I thought I'd put this here.

After buying the Infinity rulebooks, I grabbed the Warhammer Vampire Counts army book. I did a double take when I saw them ring up the price. $69au for the army book. The Infinity rulebooks cost me $55au a peice.

They're easily 3-4 times as big as the army book. I admit the Vampire Counts book is very slick, as usual for 8th edition Warhammer books, and the Infinity rulebooks have little positioning and formatting issues, like with the army lists, a lot of them don't sit correctly in the boxes (I do desktop publishing as part of my job, so I noticce these things). But the Infinity books have the edge in that they're full of awesome art and are rulebooks.

Probably something other people have noticed, but wow. What a shock when I saw that price ring up.

That is surely an Australian thing. However, the Warhammer 40k and Fantasy books do, in the US, go for about the same price as the Infinity books.

As an aside, I really wish that Corvus Belli produces a small rules 'handbook' akin to the Warhammer boxed set minibooks and the Malifaux Rules Manual. It's a nice thing to have.

Regardless, I've all but stopped caring about sifting through my rulebook because accessing the Wiki from my phone is just that much more efficient.

So got my second game in today; 150 points. Came down to the last model, but I lost, yet again. Remembering to stay in cover is kind of throwing me off, too used to Warhammer

Oh, and we weren't playing with alot of the rules, though my brother did help by taking everything I told him not to (Hey I don't know the rules for this stuff. "Not my fault!")

While I think it's nice not to have to buy the rulebook, in my experience a lot of people do. I agree Wiki is far more useful when you have a thorough grounding in the game, but I really enjoyed getting the main book first of all and spending a week or so just sat down and reading through it from cover to cover.

Slarg232 don't worry it will take you a while to get used to the rules - best to get used to the basics of the rule mechanics, then introduce new stuff as you go along.

Great to see you guys starting with gusto! I know it has a learning curve at first but it's worth it. Not only that but you have to think differently as well! Now you can't go get a drink while the other guy moves. You always have to think a few moves ahead but now there's a whole new part to do that. I've seen guys win just doing good ARO!

We seem to have found that people that played lots of Necromunda and Mordheim pick up Infinity much faster thanks to things like Overwatch and needing to keep a close eye on what your opponent is doing at all times.

The other thing we have to bless Corvus Belli for is not making us buy separate army books as well as the core rules.

It's because they know they are in the business of selling minis. Not Publishing. I bet they don't even make much on selling the rule books.

Doing the same as them is something I argued about GW doing as well. Make codexes free and you will find yourself selling more minis. No longer waiting years to print a new codex because you can update every one, every year! They want to come out with a new unit? no problem just update the online file. No need to wait for a new codex and printing.
