If Epic 40k was this Epic then it'd be Epic!

Looking great Sigur! sometimes mini's of a smaller size take longer than our 'normal' ones you've managed to do an excellent job with enough detail to make them look interesting and accurate without cluttering them. you my friend are phenomenal

Fantastic stuff! How you manage to get so much detail on those fellas is beyond me but congrats nonetheless.

They are very impressive Sigur, especially for how small they are and how quick you did them.

@Nevux: Thanks very much!

@nerdfest09: Hey, epic40k IS epic. :/ Thanks very much though. It's all well as long as the little buggers wear proper uniforms (unlike my Thirty Years War guys who are 50% smaller and wear the gaudiest clothes they could afford. I really want to get back into that project but it scares me )

@Commander Cain: Thanks, mate! You better ask the sculptors! It's really impressive how much detail the people are able to cram onto 15mm or even 10mm scale figures. And say what you will about Flames of War, Battlefront do a good job with their figures.

@GiraffeX: Thanks, man! Well, it's just 15mm, so not too small. As I said before a few times: I do enjoy the smaller scales a lot.

Managed to squeeze in some time for the BAOR and basically finished the core platoon (and the Scimitar).

Two rifle sections, one patrolling, one all being firefighty and stuff.

Here's the Scimitar Recce Vehicle, another rifle section and the platoon command section (with attached anti-air team with Blowpipe launcher):

A detail shop of one of the FV432 crewmen. I really like his shades. And of course I forgot to add moustaches. At least a quarter of the crew should have them and this one's a total candidate. The guy with the shades actually had to be converted from another vehicle crew model. I had to chop off the helmet and sculpt a beret and earphones for him.

Here's a close-up shot of the FV432 with opened top hatch. You can also see the driver wearing a tanker's helmet instead of the standard issue beret.

Well, one more rifle section, heavy GPMG team, artillery observer/sniper team and four casualty counters to do but the 'core force' plus a few more armoured assets are done. Pretty happy with them too. I mean Cold War infantry is never pretty but I did what I could. Vehicles still need decals or hand-painted markings and numbers and all of that. Thankfully I recently was sent a really good online resource for that kind of stuff by mrtn (of Warseer/Warlord Games Forums/Herdstone fame).

It's late and I don't really want to go to bed yet so I'll just bore you with some more historical stuff. Two weeks ago I had my birthday and as a present, some wonderful people got me this:

Aw yeah - hardback , beautifully printed, full colour version of TFL's latest and probably hard-hitting WW2 platoon-level skirmish rules. It's actually the tablet version (and I got the pdf too) so all the links are still in there and such but who cares. I either write myself an index or even get it to download and number the pages by hand or just use some post-its so i find stuff. Anyway, really excited to give this one a go. If you're listening to the Meeples and Miniatures podcast (and why wouldn't you) you'll be as pumped about this as I am. Actually, I'm really, really tempted to give these a try in 28mm even though it's the less reasonable way to go. But there's so much pretty stuff and I got this box of German Sturmpioniere lying around. The more reasonable thing to do of course would be to go 15mm. Pricewise there isn't that grand of a difference (certainly not when it comes to the infantry) but availability, cost of additional assets, 28mm WW2 terrain I'd have to get (my gaming buddy's got 15mm WW2 terrain already) are factors to consider. OR of course I go the wargamer's route: Get 15mm models, paint them, play with them, but only as a placeholder until I get my 28mm scale stuff done.

Anyway, that's all for now. pe that you like the minis, guys and ladies!

Here's a Dakka-exclusive wip shot of what I'm currently working on.

The good people at Wargames Factory sent me a review copy of the latest release from their Dark Futures range: Apocalypse Survivors - The Women. Working on the review and a few of the models form the box of course. Hope you like them so far!

@Gitsplitta: Indeed. I guess it comes with the genre (and I'm not entirely innocent either as I went decidedly colourful on them).

@Moltar: Hey, that's a ladyperson at the RPG

@Yggdrasil: Cheers, I found them to be really fun models.

Alright gentlemen, here's my review of Wargames Factory's Apocalypse Survivors - The Women!

Lots of pictures inside as well!

Check it out, hope you enjoy and leave me some feedback! I always aim to improve my reviews. They aren't technically what does all that much businesswise but I do enjoy writing those and bringing some less widely known models and products into the spotlight for a bit.

Yup, the Female Survivors review tops the "most viewed articles" list on my site/blog by quite a margin and it's the most commented on review so far as well! Thanks very much for checking it out, guys.

I'm currently working on preparing a workshop and some historical minis to sho- hey, come back! It won't be boring, I promise! It also has warhammers in it!!

So yes, preparing historical minis to showcase at this wargames show coming up in late October. I'm getting a kick out of this and out of writing reviews so here's another one!

@iheartlargeblasttemplates: Hey, welcome back. Thanks for the comment!

Okay, proceeding with all kinds of historical stuff! As I reported above, I got the Chain of Command rules. Woo! Probably will play them in 15mm for now but I do have plans for 28mm as well. There is just so much pretty stuff around and at platoon level I think 28mm scale can still work. Apart from that, I need some WW2 stuff to showcase anyway, so here we got a few ww2 German riflemen I'm currently preparing for looking presentable. There'll be a review as well. For now they're still WIP of course.

Infantry section:

A few combat engineers to help the section above find their way (Goliath operator, mine deterctor, Pionier with Geballte Ladung, two Pioniers with rifles and all kinds of tools, Pionier lying on hos back with wire cutter, Pionier with flame thrower):

By the way, the models are from Warlord Games. Hope you like them so far!

Ze Germans are looking nice. Wire cutter is a neat idea. They look a little more lively than your average WW2 minis

@Moltar: I guess with WW2 figures you can go pretty dynamic as those don't have to be ranked up proper.

@Dysartes: Indeed. Actually, these Combat Engineers take me way back. My first infantry miniatures ever were 1/35th German Engineers from Revell (got them for Christmas by my Dad) and they basically were the same kit. I mean less of a range of 'exotic' weapons (such as the Granatenbüchse or the Sturmpistole but the Goliath, the little tracked thingy was there, there was a wirecutting guy in the exactly same pose and so on. Good times.

So, how's it going? I'm still working on random little groups of historical figures for showcasing and to get some experience under my belt for painting various periods and uniforms. I've been asked to do a painting workshop for a historical wargaming show next month and I want to have as much stuff to showcase as possible.

So here is an update on ze Germans:

Yup, there's grass and whatnot on the bases already but the painting isn't finished. Kind of weird, I know but I really wasn't in the mood for painting them any more and thought I'd quickly do the basing and then go back and see what details are left to finish. I also was curious to see the final colour scheme with the grass added and such. Usually I'm a fan of 'pretty' basing but I wanted to go for somthing different on these guys. Note how the tall grass is all burned on the flamethrower guys' base.

Then I finally started working on the Napoleonic Austrians. Just a few figures from the box:

For demonstration purposes (and added colour), I decided to have the guys showing the different arm options from the box to be all from different regiments (as incidated by different colours on sleeves, collars and turnovers). Marching guys are of the 3rd Regiment 'Erzherzog Karl'.

During wasting an hour and a half online reading about regiment colours and looking for pictures, I found a group of reenactors from around Vienna who depict (play? not sure what it's called in reenactment) a bunch of Grenadiers from the 3rd.

Mmmmmh, sexy....

Hope you like the stuff. I know that Historicals aren't up everybody's alley, in fact views and replies usually plummet when I post that stuff. If you want historicals to draw ANY attention at all, you probably have to break out the Wehrmacht. Anyways, there will be Space Marines in the near future. I just have to sort out stuff for the workshop and the show next month. That aside, I'm currently in the planning stages of a very exciting project (which probably won't see the light of day until early next year). I do have some Space Marines from the latest release wave in the pipeline though.

Vikings, historicals, 15mm, 28mm who cares as long as you're showing us! :-) probably the comments drop, not because we don't like or appreciate them but purely because we aren't as confident in talking about models we don't fully understand or have an affinity with, rest assured though everything you paint is as alluring as everything else you do!
