It better be a MC, have 4 Venom cannons, 3 base attacks and a BS of 4. That's the only way it will be worth the name.

Thats a crappy translation too because venom, toxin and poison are different things. I would think the Germans would have different words for these things instead of just one generic one.

Thats like saying "i would think germans had the same style tenses as we do." which they don't stop being ignorant

Tha is assuming that flesh hooks indeed still allows you to treat vertically impass.....bla bla in the new codex. That might not be the case.

Actually, no, there's no distinction between them in Dutch or German.

I'm sure that after a week or two we will be calling these new beasts whatever we fancy anyway.
Most probably 'That gribbly with the S? flame attack' and 'Sgt Slish with the pie cannon'.

Also, three weeks ago I ordered a Nid battleforce and two boxes of gaunts to add to my swarm before January.
After numerous calls and promises that the models had been sent they ,in fact, had not.
I was told yesterday that GW UK had run out of both boxes.
The guys were helpful and threw in a couple of freebiees so i'm not bitter and have taken the break to finish some long overdue projects.

I also managed to get them from my local store last night so i'm fine!
Start panicking people. This could be your last ever chance to get a free carnifex!

I got 4 assault swarms earlier (each is 2 battle forces with an extra carnifex for the price of 2 battleforces) so I'm good. I just wonder if they will release any new info or wait till the end of nov to give skaven their day in the sun.

Everyone has grenades now. Even IG get them for free. It would go with the them of the game that they give nids grenades and what does it matter? They move 3d6 and all the nids who have I4 or better take FH anyways because they have to strike before simal or before Marines if they want to survive combat. Thank you fearless armor saves and very squishy nids.

Is this some kind of joke? It was said that the the Toxinthrope was the English translation of the German name. Toxin, venom and poison have three completely different definitions in English. They are separate words that are only used interchangeably because the people who use them are to stupid to understand their differences or just don't care. Not ignorant because that implies that they don't know the difference but stupid because they do know and don't care. Now since Redemption says that the language uses a generic word then that would explain part of the confusion but it is still a bad translation to translate something to two different definitions in one language especially if one of the translations is using a generic term.
If the English word is Venomthrope and Germans use a generic word for the three things then the German name translated to English would also be Venomthrope. English uses a specific definition so that would take priority in the translation. The point of translating something is to keep the original meaning of the word as best you can.

Thanks for clearing that up Redemption. Now we can go back to randomly screaming about how bad the names are instead of using a though process and logic.

Personally, I like the name Toxathrope better than Venomthope. Toxathrope at least blends the two words instead of simply ramming them into each other end to end.

They did it with Spinegaunts, so I don't see why they'd stop there. *sigh* They really need to work on these names. I kind of hope the Exocrine fades away, too. I don't like it when sci-fi borrows real science terms for things that are totally unrelated.

An exocrine is a gland that secrete their product (ammo?) into ducts (barrel?). Compare that to some of the other Tyranid names:

  • Hierodule - temple prostitute
  • Dactylis - type of grass
  • Harridan - hag / shrew
  • Vituperator - verbal abuser
  • Dominatrix - SM mistress
  • Zoanthrope - mental disease that makes you think you're an animal

  • Still, most of them are at least real words, have a nice ring to them and aren't used very commonly. Ah well, they'll just be called 'squidface' or 'firethingy' within a week anyway...

  • Actually it's the female form of Dominator. The S&M mistress aspect is a colloquial usage.

Yeah, I knew a few of those. Maybe "exocrine" just grates on me since I hear it all the freaking time. I can't stop making weird connections between the model and a pancreas. It's not a good thing. Dominatrix kind of makes sense in context, but vituperator is dumb. I was unhappy with that name, also. Dactylis...eh.

As I heard it once, Carnifex as a whole means Executioner, while Carni and Fex mean Meat and Maker, aka Butcher. I don't speak Latin myself however, so I have no idea how accurate that is.

no its not some kind of a joke.

anybody that isnt ignorant will know that french german and many other languages use more generic terms english is the 'unusual' languague of the world because of the way it works, saying poison, venom and toxin are all different is being stuppid because in other languages the same word either uses different meanings or means the same as many english words.
