Dang! That's my favorite cover of the 8th edition books. Waaaaay better than VC.

Loving the new models too!

I suppose Karl Franz will lose his access to the Imperial Dragon now since Deathclaw is huuuge

Presumably Deathclaw *ate* the Imperial Dragon, judging by the size of him...

This.

The different factions are beginning to look more and more similar. I accept that each race still has different profiles, but for me this is about the only thing that sets them apart now.

In that respect, the potential future Dwarf and Bretonnian army books will be interesting. Since dwarves don't have magic or monstrous mounts, and Bretonnians are almost as light on the high-fantasy stuff, I wonder and dread what the current paradigm would do to them.I guess dwarves would get some kind of steam-powered vehicle and a new large war machine, and so on

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Which just wouldn't sit right, since the Engineering guild dislikes new things that haven't proven themselves over a century of testing.

Unless it was a train, cause they apparently have those.

Didn't we have this same line of discussion when the Vampire Counts book was coming out?

For my own part:
I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing that Warhammer Fantasy is becoming a bit more "fantastic". I like the addition of things like Demigryph Knights, Crypt Horrors/Vargheists, the Ogre Kingdoms big mammoth guys, and the Tomb Kings stuff.

Is some of it over the top? Oh gods yes. But I'd rather they actively add stuff--even if I'm just going to ignore it!--than if they were to remove stuff.

I'm alright with the new Empire stuff- it actually helps me maintain "suspension of disbelief" in the game world. I mean, if the Empire was in a world where there are all sorts of monsters that they COULD domesticate, and they weren't doing it, there's no way they'd survive as a culture. Similarly, if magic exists then they should be taking every advantage they can. So on that front, I think the Demigryph knights are kinda cool. What I don't like though is the Wizard platforms. In concept they are okay, but the execution is sorely lacking for me.

I do like the amber wizard model quite a lot though. And Mr Beefy Griffon isn't bad either.

Digging the beefcake griffon myself, two-headed and all. But then again, I a) like griffons anyway; and b) am not playing Empire Can't fathom how they make a griffon viable in game, unless it has over 6 wounds or some ultra-fantastical ward save. No idea how it's supposed to be blamf in combat either - griffons have more or less been the most mediocre medium monster mount of a rather mediocre class of medium monsters.

I have to admit - I love most of it!

Even the ridiculous over the top gigantic new Deathclaw.

And the two-headed version?!?

Wow!

Over the top?

Yes.

Awesome?

Hell yes!

Now I can only wonder about the costs to get all of this new stuff...

Neither the griffin or the hippogryphs are helped by the forced head-up pose. I would have given the griffin a larger head (even if that means abandoning the two-headed griffin concept) and replaced the hippogryphs with something else. Leotau, chocobos, I don't know, something that looks better than a horse with its extremities replaced with those of a bird.

Note: These are just guesses, based off the price bands that similar stuff is already in.

Deathclaw is most likely going to be around $55 or so(the listing in WD has him at 43 Euros--the Vampire Counts Lord on Zombie Dragon is 47,50 Euros).

Demigryph Knights are coming 3/box like the Necropolis Knights/Tomb Stalkers; and if I had to hazard a guess the price will be similar($54.50).

Plastic characters will likely be $13.50/each, Finecast characters will likely range from $15.25 to $18.25/each.

The wagon will probably be $57.75ish.

The griffin is absolutely terrible with that huge inflated chest.

The cav is kinda boring and just a smaller version of the same thing (makes me wonder if Brets will just get a giant Pegasus)

The wagon is sweet, I like all 3 versions, especially the orrery.

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

Its all generally nice, I like the Griffon, and the wagons are neat, although Volkmar's looks the weakest of the three builds.

It was also what I was expecting, monsters, new must have unit, and other big kits.
It seems all fantasy is going like this soon, endless armies of wizards, a few monsters/War machines and horde infantry units.

It was the final nail in the coffin for me pulling out of it at the moment. I still love the setting, but I am not a fan of what the game has become just to sell the kits.
I wish they had done an Apocalypse style fantasy expansion for all this stuff, instead of insisting on ramping up all the actual armies with loads of bigger and badder things each time.

Its getting to the point, the armies look like they are taking turns pulling bigger weapons out of the bag as they face eachother, like a tom and jerry cartoon.

Interesting to see the trend of 'bigger and more extreme' continuing with fantasy models. On the one hand, I think it suits the background and idea of monsters like griffons to actually be huge and imposing. On the other, the multi-topped war machine is pretty forced in. And I agree with some other posters, new knights would have been much cooler than a monstrous cavalry option.

$50 for the Empire Whatsicanum or Thingaminark isn't as terrible as it could've been. But 3 demigryph knights for $55 is outrageous.

Certainly disappointing that the Knights are simply being repackaged.

3 for $55 is outrageous/a decent deal depending on how big they are.

Reaper and Bruckner are pretty dang big. If they're on chariot bases, I'd say it's not too bad.

Aye, reminds me of the simple re-release of the TK skeletons when the new book hit, without sexy new sculpts to replace the decade(s) old ones. Certainly a bad move for TK as a whole, will have to see how vital knights are to Empire I guess.

The Luminark of Hysh... Why oh why GW did you have to release something like that?!

Now all I can think about is converting it so that it's a psychotic clown-villan and his 'light of judgement' coming to burn down anyone who speaks out against his new world order. (with 3 statues of magical goddesses along for the ride!)
