I like flails too. Not sure how easy or practical they are to use, surely a sword is the most popular for a reason, but they probably hurt quite a lot.

For range, African Throwing Iron.

Close in, flanged mace and a Bollock Dagger

Cheers

PS I may have missed this, but I believe that the sword staff is called a Brandestoc if anyone cares to search.

is this surprise that so few are choosing projectile weapons, or surprise that a few have chosen projectile weapons? Hoenstly, this is not surprising to me, because of how glamorized melee weapons were/are. From the earliest age, people read about king arthur and his noble knights, who rode horses, with lances and swords and axes, war hammers, etc. (well, especially the sword)

From what studying i have done, there is more skill involved in fighting with melee weapons, as opposed to bows. From what i have seen, most of the skills involved in shooting a bow can really only be developed over time with practice, whereas swords and other melee weapons require time training, and often "real" combat, to gain further skills.

I chose a crossbow. That can either be the European (preferably Italian) armor peircing accurate long ranged monster or the more fast firing Byzantine or Chinese styles.
Give me a Byzantine crossbow and I will rapid fire all you pointy stickers to my heart's content.

I'll take a maul. Preferably one with a good spike on the haft. It will do some serious damage, and it has non-combat applications.

Why are people opting for flails? You're just as likely to injure yourself with it than your opponent?

Cheers

Andrew

PS African Throwing Iron is called a Mongwanga apparently, got to say I like the name!

Well as long as you know what you are doing and in the right situation I would happily use a flail.

No crossbows have great range. What they sacrifice is loading time. They take a long time to reset.

Punch daggers look cool but have no real advantage over a standard handle, and they in fact have a disadvantage in that the user loses the ability to articulate his wrist, and with it the angle of the blade. No wrist=huge disadvantage when dealing with light fast weapons like a dagger.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Biggest advantage is power in the punch, so more likely to punch through primitive armors.

Daggers are not meant to blow through armor with brute force, and by bending the wrist one can bypass primitive armor entirely.

There are advantages, you gain protection over the wrist for blocking, even larger blades, and some reach...

Different weapon, different techniques, different strengths and weaknesses.

Was very popular in India, so must have had value or qould not have been popular!

My comments are my own, and mine own alone. If you have any complaints, please report to Mr Spanky who will take them down for you.....
