Any bow (apart from crossbows, I don't like them) would suit me down to the ground. Failing that, a good old longsword, a shield and a coat of chainmail. Nothing like seeing and tasting blood fresh from your latest victim... or yourself, as the case may very well be.

Long Sword. Not too big (or heavy), i'd prefer to be quick and sacrifice hitting power. Chainmails would be nice but possibly a bit heavy, i'd prefer to be able to move than have armour.

Smash your face in if you're unarmoured, or buckle your armour, rendering a limb immobile if you're in plate.

If you're going to use a spear, you want your front rank with shields, and short, stabbing blades. They are there primarily to hold the line, and provide reatively stationery targets for the spears to poke. The blade is more for opportunity stabs.

Unfortunately that's illegal; the whole unit has to use the same weapon.

Depends what i'll be fighting. Lightly armoured or unarmoured troops, a horizontal head might be better for penetrating the light armour and slipping through between the ribs. For heavily armoured troops... we could always run away.

I think I'd just stick with the Bodkin. It might do less against the unarmoured, but having an arrow appear in your body is going to knack regardless!
Or I'd cheat horribly and use those exploding heads you see in Rambo.

My medieval weapon of choice? The roman legion.
For individual equipment...Well, quite frankly they did that pretty good too. Armor designed very efficiently to protect against the flailing overhand swings with ye olde longsword by ye olde "I HAS MUSCLES" sort of soldier, excellent shield coverage, and a sword that is short and handy enough to actually be used when you and your opponent are close enough to use each others eyelids to blink. Oh, and the terrible amount of damage that a good stab with a gladius profile blade will do to meat is...well...i've seen a lot of gunshot wounds on various things in my time, and very few come close. On that note....
Swords take more skill to use than a gun.
You sir, should send me a PM to "discuss" things that are better not brought here to muddy up a perfectly good topic.
