[1] - Medieval.

[2] - If we are choosing our preferred Medieval weapon, then the only era we have to choose from is the Middle Ages, a.k.a., the Medieval era.

If you know know what that is, just think of how important they were to a knight.. with it, I am nigh unstoppable, unless you are an english longbowman with some stakes set in the ground.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

seeing as how a horse isn't a "real" weapon, at least in the case of this discussion, i have always been a fan of the Hand-and-a-half sword. It is probably one of the most versatile, purely war-purposed tools available.

Are we sure that all the weapons listed so far are from the Middle Ages? Perhaps a complete list and a Poll would better serve this or a new thread?

My personal preference would be a naginata, it's light versatile and ccan work as spear halberd and sword(versatility FTW)
on the samurai armor discussion SAMURAI DIDN'T WEAR metal/steel armor they actually used reinforced leather with some metal reinforcing/decorating only the helmets wre metal.
plus medieval Japan is stil medieval.

although, typically speaking about Samurai, the topic either goes into the realm of unification wars, or anime. Feudal Japan may potentially have been along the same era in Western history, however it is nowhere near the same thing, and IMO should be omitted from the topic at hand.

It's very true that when talking samurai people usually thin Sengoku japan (unification) which is renaissance but the way Japanese genrals thought and equipment for Samurai has remained virtually unchanged from about the 11hunderds so I think
it is a medieval era subject which has every right to be included, Western people always thinking themselves more importan I for one think asian hostory is just as important interseting and IMHO way cooler

Oh i made a switch i want the medieval chinese repeater crossbow the Chu Ko Nu. (if i recall correctly.)
It's a semi automatic Crossbow with three shots before reload and has the same range and power as aregular crossbow. Strong people could reload the three arrows at once because of the foot strut.

it is indeed the Chu Ko Nu. Lemme preface this by saying that I am currently in college as a history major, and the first class I took had to do exactly with the notion of what you call 2 separate regions during the same time period.... For instance, Ming Dynasty china is not the same as Classical Greece. The same is said of the Medieval period, because in reality it is the Early, Middle, and Late Middle Ages, then the Renaissance, etc. While some of the same themes are played out across multiple regions, it is unfair to the individuals involved to be lumped all together.

As a small aside, I would want my hand and a halfer to be made from Viking steel .. just not by viking craftsmen. I just recently saw a documentary on the Vikings, and what made them so "awesome" and the conclusion that the people on the show came to in regards to their weapons, was that the Vikings swords were no better than mainland or british isles weapons, mostly due to construction techniques.

yeah, but a broadsword just isnt as cool sounding as the hand and a half's "other" name of course, the other name probably violates forum rules, so im not even gonna post it, since im sure its common knowledge anyhow

So a mid-evil weapon ....

actually, using the typification of Mr Ewart Oakeshott could help identifiying a sword.

Ensis meant something like this:
http://schwertshop.de/schwerter/mittelalter/mittelalter-kampfschwerter-scharf/anderhalbhand-kampfschwerter-scharf-oakeshott-typ3.html

If I had to choose a general purpose weapon and may claim any sword I'd try to grab "Gram".

because in reality, a broadsword is a completely separate family of sword to the hand and a half, again, i think itd be against forum rules, but the other name for the hand and a half, is the bastard sword.

found this link fairly quickly, its decent in its brevity on the differences in european swords:
