I’ve always liked the Cypher model, you’ve done a great job with the model. Looking forward to his glamour shot.

Thanks youwashock! Base ties in with my other imperial models, because if you are a loyalist alpha legion successor, Cypher seems like a natural ally

Thanks Yorkright! The old metal model was the only model I painted myself when I had my first bout with wargaming in the early 2000s. It's now resting stripped in a box and will be painted to at some point.

Glamour shots came out really bright, not exactly as I wanted. Played around with the lightbox I got years ago, but it's not ideal. One USB-Cable broke directly and I may have to look for another setup.

And because I finished Cypher, I thought why not paint the Cypher Lords Got the box for 25% off and after closer inspection they seem to be easy enough to paint. I won't be lacking in WarCry warbands after the next month.

Trying to build them next week and am excited to paint them, their poses are really great.

Thanks youwashock! I can imagine him watching and grumbling "10.000 years standing still, when is the lion going to get his sword back, that thing's heavy."

Heretic Tom wrote:Nice, he looks great! I love the cypher lords minis, they are all really cool sculpts.

Thanks Heretic Tom!

Got two little sessions in last evening and today after breakfast and calling the five little birds done. If one is halfway cautious it really is possible to get acceptable results with just contrast and nothing else. But I won't do it again, always going back with white over the spots you accidentally painted in is cumbersome. But now they are nearly done, already prepped both leader birds and put some more colors on them. Should have them finished on Tuesday I think.

And seeing the picture I realize, that I painted some bird skull parts leather on the one model, need to rectify that.

The Corvus miniatures have turned out great, I do agree that retouching mistakes with white/wraithbone/grey seer is not the most easy way of getting results. It must be really annoying for those new to the hobby or those without patience or a steady hand.

Cypher looks great, I think it is one of the best modern reimaginings that GW have done.

Thanks gobert! It's the aptly named Skeleton Horde contrast paint, that works well for bones.

Thanks IGtR=! Was really interesting using contrast for everything and am quite happy to be done with Cypher and that you like the glam shots!

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors! Yeah, someone who just started painting will be annoyed with all the retouching. I was as clean as possible, but did some parts 3-4 times and still didn't see some stuff (even on the last two minis, where I wanted to be more thorough )
Cypher sculpt really is great and I hope he sees battle in the not so far future.

Captain Brown wrote:Viterbi,

Thanks Captain Brown! I could have done more details looking at the official pics, but so happy he's done.

Inspired by ListenToMeWarriors I also have kind of a March review. My ambitions were set a little to high, I was meandering with the terrain at the beginning of the month, then painted nothing for a week before getting to grips and churning out the rest of the terrain, the cabal (very hasty I might say, they need the 3 foot rule ) and Cypher. But at least I got some stuff built and all in all I'm happy to have finished most of the terrain (two large pieces remain) and a whole warband.

So, without further (but a little) ado my finished cabal (they get blood on their weapons after their first WarCry kills), the finished terrain (still needs blood) and the primed models awaiting paint, Bonereapers are gonna be next, because their scheme will also be quite easy, gonna do Aethermatic Blue over Grey Seer for the bone. Still need to decide what to do for the armor, contemplating gold or purple.

These look ace! Love the bright colours. As for the ghosties, I think a dark silver metal would look better. Gold/Bronze will get conflated with the turquoise and distract (the brain may just see it as verdigris)

Loving the aethermatic blue bone idea. That is another frustrating thing about Contrast, the way how you think you have done a full and even coating but the weird way it behaves means that there is usually at least one spot that does not get coverage. You have a miniscule example of that here with a smidgen missed on a couple of toes on the right foot. Normally gravity would do its job and a standard wash would have covered that, I have had such instances happen to me a lot with Contrast.

March in review was cool. That terrain is a bit daunting to me so I have left it, and the Cabal and Cypher and it has been a productive month for you.

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors and yeah, I don't know how much I reapplied red on the cabal guys, because there were still white spots left. But all in all I really like contrast, the advantages luckily outweigh my grievances.

Syro_ wrote:Cypher looks great! I also really like your paint job on those guys with the bird skull masks.

Thanks Syro_! Loved doing the cabal warband, because I finally used (some) other colors than mostly grey-blue, dark green and purple (although they are still on display on some models).

youwashock wrote:The ghostly bone guy looks cool so far. Look forward to seeing the rest of the scheme.

Thanks youwashock! And the scheme is moving along, just blocked in the other colors and now waiting for the texture paint to dry, so I can shade armour and base. (Edit: Now realizing that I painted more of the mini as armour as there is actual amour... ah well, probably not gonna correct that, because I like the current look more. Gonna decide after finishing this one model).

Thinking about doing a contrast paint over the sword, but yet undecided, which one. Tending towards black. And I'm totally at a loss, what to do with the eyes, any suggestions would be welcome!

And built the Cypher Lords (such nice sculpts) and the Underworlds KO warband, gonna use floaty and minigun guy for WarCry, they are nice alternative sculpts, love the reloading, really well done.

Did some quick additional painting. Seraphim Sepia as a shade was maybe not the best ideal, it now looks slightly golden May do a light silver drybrush. Otherwise I think the scheme will work. Did orange for the eyes, like on the cloth. Need to do something about the teeth, I think they would work better, if they aren't blue like the rest of the bones. And why the hell did GW did so much detail on the back of the shields Gonna paint all of them on sprue, so I can get the wood, the arm and the leather strap without problems.

Thanks guys!

Didn't plan on painting today, because we get a few tons soil delivered for our garden and have to get it through the garage into our garden with not 2, not 3, not 4, but 1 lonely wheelbarrow But because they botched the delivery and didn't come at 8, but may come at 11 I used the time to get the spear skellies and the leader guy further along.

Yup, the skelly looks great. Light blue and orange go together very well, just like the classic Gulf livery! And I think the gold/brass color you achieved with washes (and drybrushing?) looks perfect for the scheme, much better than the original steel.

I'm also liking you Corvus Cabal scheme, very different to the studio scheme! I'm partial to the white cloth, but the teal works as well. Heh, from some of your first WIP photos I initially thought I was looking at some Eldar Banshees

Thanks mcmattila! Metals are Leadbelcher, wash of Seraphim Sepia and than a drybrush with Stormhost Silver. Quite happy with the look myself.

The Corvus scheme was really unplanned and consisted of using more or less most of the contrast colors I had at hand Glad you like it!

Thanks gobert! And yeah, looking back at old minis where you glued the fist on a flat back of the shield, it's a far cry from those days. Although the old stuff made painting easier

Finished the four spear skeletons, that leaves 5 to have finished the mortek guard. And started on the Ogroid Thaumaturge. I really, really wanted to do him with normal paints and nice layering, but contrast was to alluring and two coats later I think I will be going for speed with painting him
