wat? end times nurgle stuff started the bloody tentacle trend! - gutrot spume, the glottkin, even your beloved blightkings have some

changemod wrote:The guy mutating into a fly in particular strikes me as so unique looking that having duplicates of him in an army would look really weird.

I love that fly guy!...I'd be tempted to run a full squad of that model (mixed up a bit with different arms and stuff though of course)

Yeah, some. A single Poxwalker sculpt has more tentacles than the whole Blight Kings box. They have a select fee optional ones, that make sense. Gutrot is half a squid, those tentacles are a part of his background and arranged around a squid mouth in a sensible way. And those releases didn't start tentacles on Nurgle models, let alone Chaos models. The Adrian Smith art of a Nurgle lord for Fantasy has one and this seems to be the design most newer Nurgle sculpts are based on. Tentacles aren't a problem simply by existing. I haven't used the BK body with tongue tentacle, though, besides making an anglerfish Plague Marine with it.

However, the Death Guard have a ton of them sticking from every orifice and surface and more and more and a few here on top and then some over there. And they have no fleshy bits showing where tentacles coming out might look natural (besides the fat Terminator who is my favourite from the unit). And seeing how many people are talking ablut cutting off the tentacles or disliking them, well, there's either a very loud minority of people who were hyped to get new Death Guard models earlier or maybe it's just overdone on these guys. We'll never know.

TBF comparing Blightlords to Blightkings is comparing to one of the best kits GW has ever made--almost everything will come up short. They do have their flaws but the pieces are well sculpted and it's still much better than generic chaos terminators painted green. It's not all bad!

Yeah, even if I have some problems with this release, as a whole this release, for me personally, is at least a 9/10. THIS is how you release a new army. (Yes I know, is more a redoing of a old army, but the scale of this release is even bigger than most new factions receive)

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

The kings have 105 pieces and the lords just 64. No wonder they seem to fall short.

I have the same opinion of this release as Galas. Not perfect, but pretty good for a new army with its own style. They could have made them more like poster boys, if they presentated them more in the Ultramar campaign.

I'd like to see some comparison shots with the (extra) blightking torsos and the 'normal' terminators as they may well be a good source of a fairly simple conversion that will help to make the terminators more varied

(I've not bought my own yet as i'm waiting for the release to finish before deciding what to get)

Does this x3 poxwalker pack indicate no poxwalker kit or is there evidence of new models somewhere? I dont mind the terminators having just a few poses, but when you could have an army with 60-80 poxwalkers, 16 poses doesnt seem like enough.

I think I spotted a generic combi-bolter attachment for the 5th arm but I could easily have been mistaken.

Could Forgeworld Typhon's scenic pedestal fit on to a 50 mm base? Seems like that could work for a more neutrally-posed Typhus.

ooh, I didn't think about that...yeah I'd bet it would! - there is probably about 10mm of base uncovered...hmm, I wonder how well I glued mine down

ok, so I just measured mine...the bottom of the resin scenic base-topper is roughly 47mm diameter...so, yup, that'd go perfectly on a 50mm!...there will be a little bit of overhang from the wider top part of it, which is roughly 50mm x 60mm, but I don't think it'd be too bad

Doesn't sound like that would be any more of a problem than how the new Typhus's scythe sticks out past his base. Cool. I might have to do this for myself, I like Forgeworld Typhon's design a lot more.

What an abysmal sculpt - bordering on comical imo :(

As much as I don't like Typhus' character (he dissed Morty... shame on him)

That is who he is, though. He's the defiant son. He hates that Mortarion replicated Barbarus on the Plague Planet and so he does what he wants, when he wants, unless Mortarion really needs him.

Yeah I know, I'm just in Mortarion's corner. I didn't mean that I didn't like him as a character, he's cool. I just feel more for the guilt ridden side of Mortarion, and dislike Typhus for betraying him and causing their fall to Nurgle by leading them astray in the warp when Mortarion trusted him most.

So, in the least whiny way I can, I kinda want to say this release has turned me off deathguard a bit. I always liked deathguard as a tough gunline, that focuses a lot on units of actual marines. Traitor legions was basically exactly what I always wanted from DG.

This release has rather pushed them away from that. DG got new options, but those are mostly demon engines and melee units. Our terminators are new... but in practice play like the traitor legion version with a new weapon and no powerfist/chainfist options, and most of our new PM options are melee units. The new characters are neat, but again mostly encourage even more melee. Honestly, I can't say I really like where they are taking our army. I'm unsure if I want to even continue pursuing a DG army. The only new unit I really want are the blightcrawler tanks, plus I've got morty incoming.

It's a solid release don't get me wrong, and clearly things like our tactic do fit my idea of our army. But we don't even have anything that can even use our tactic in half the slots. I'm honestly wondering if I should just use a normal CSM codex army, maybe even start collecting more tsons. Anyone else getting a similar feeling? I've been looking more and more at the army and I feel like I'm running legion of the damned with deathguard support than an actual deathguard army. Or maybe nurgle daemonkin even. But not a real DG army.

I've always seen death guard as hordes of plague marines/zombies/other nurgle gribblies, sweeping slowly, but relentlessly across the battlefield, chugging away with their bolters, barely registering any incoming fire, until they make it into melee range - which is where they want to be - the closer they are to their enemy, the easier it is to spread nurgles love, and they get great enjoyment out of watching nurgle's blessings take effect

melee-focused is how they should be, fluff-wise, imo...at least these days...things may have been a bit more like what you want back before the heresy (not sure though...I'm not exactly a 30k expert)

...that said, I still don't really know why we don't get havocs...some dedicated backline firing support infantry wouldn't feel out of place to me at all...

You don't get Havocs for the same reason we (Thousand Sons) don't get Havocs - all marines are plagued/dusted, so marine units that are not plagued/dusted can't be Death Guard/Thousand Sons. They could have made special Plague Havocs but decided to make a half dozen elite slot characters instead.

I'm just confused by all the mono-pose plastic kits that are coming out. Is this just how all new GW kits are going to be now? No more options and very little, if any freedom to customize or pose models the way you want to, everything goes together just the one way with maybe head/arm swaps possible and that's it? Or is this just a limitation with Death Guard in particular?

Well, I just picked up First Strike as a painting challenge, and even though the minis are monopose they're really easy to customise.

I think Death Guard will be at the extreme end and there will still be kits that allow more customization, but GW certainly seems intent of on removing posability.

Now I can understand why they do it, to a degree. Ever since 3rd ed Space Hulk they used cables, purity seals and such stuff to circumvent undercuts in snap fit and easy to build models. They've then gone and added fiddly bits, cables, censers and swirly crap to models to give them more depth and layers of details. The downside of this is that models fit together only one way because you get two ore more connection points, and posability requires either a single one (for an axis or ball joint) or flexible parts (such as bendable metal cables, for instance).

Since GW seems to love their detail encrusted models so much, I think it's safe to say that going forward monopose is what you should expect, although I think we'll still see instances of posability where the art direction doesn't get in the way. Think Tyranid ball joints. Usually they don't have bio-cables that lead to the body, so you would probably still get posing options for their arms. Or Tau who have a clean, futuristic design.

They chose not to give rules to things unless they have a specific miniature. They make Chaos Havocs, hell they once even made Plague Marine Havocs, but right now they don't, so no model/no rules. It's why there are no Death Guard Terminators with Chainfists, because they don't make Death Guard Terminator models with Chainfists. It's why the Codex has a Lord of Contagion and a non-Nurgle Chaos Lord. They make a Lord of Contageion. They make a Chaos Lord. They do not make a Death Guard Chaos Lord.

It's got nothing to do with fluff.

What kind of idiot sense does that make? Not that you're an idiot H.B.M.C, but GW. Every model can take a combi-variant. Why put 1 in the box? If this is true, this really puts me out.
