Wow that mould is brilliant! It makes me want to do something like that for my RCs because I really suck at larger icons. How did you do the original icon?

I cut it out of plasticard...It took forever!! I'm really glad the mould worked out. There is no way I'm cutting that much detail out of Plasticard again.

I got some painting done on Mr. March. But I kept messing up. so I called it quits. So today I will have to fix them and get painting. I predict that I will finish painting the marine and base him...but he wont have a head.

I messed up Mr. March!!
He was all finished and looked pretty... Then I decided to try weathering on the fist. and I ruined it it looks like garbage! Im not sure how to fix it. I think i have to strip it. I took pictures but Im ashamed . I didn't bother uploading them. I also took pictures of different heads but the light was off and I guess they been sitting too long and have a bit of dust on them....they look like crap too.

No Mr. March ... I failed, I lasted over 2 months.... how many New Years resolutions last that long?

So I guess its back to my old habbits of starting things and not finishing them. I been wanting to do something new anyway.

I been Looking at terraclips and Im really considering buying a kit to two. and play some D&D.

We can't help you fix it if we can't see the problem.

Worth a shot anyway... better than stripping it & starting over.

I just want to start off by saying sorry for considering leaving the hobby. I ended up going on vacation and When I got back I wanted to game again. I had a few games, and I am going to stick with it.

So yesterday ... I think I made a mistake. While searching on Kijiji I impulse bought an army of Grey knights. I dont know why. I just sent him an offer and picked them up within a hew hours.

I got a DraigoWing Army:

2 dreadknights
20 Terminators
1 Draigo
1 Librarian
2 Dreadnoughts with forgeworld twin autocannons

As most of you know I can never finish a project. So I'm not sure what to do with this

Should I keep it...
  • Think of a way to put it in the Red Corsairs
  • Have a Grey Knights aremy
  • Create a new army with them like the Astral Claws(if possible)
  • ...or do I Just Re-sell it

So confused. I know I really dont have the time for it. But it was a great deal and they are pretty

I'll take photos when I get home

I'm going to go out on a limb and hope that you accept truth with some grace.

Why did you put a considerable amount of money into something you're not entirely sure about? From my perspective, it seems you're still a little confused about continuing with the hobby. Take a break for a few months and see if the itch is still there towards the end of the year? Keep the GK until then; decide what to do with them when you know what you'll be doing with the hobby. I say this in the hope of saving yo' mind and your wallety.

    Thanks for the hard truth.

I dont know why I bought it. I thinks its the addiction... Plastic Crack!

Most of my problems with continuing the hobby, is not money, ...It's time. between work and the 'Ol Lady, I can barely sit down.
Space is also an Issue. reciently my Sister moved in and took my office. So right now my hobby area is in the living room.

I just been frustrated and I Thought of giving up on it. ...But I love it, the painting relaxes me and gaming new players is tons of fun. But I have no idea how some people find the time.

On top of all this Im picking up Diablo 3 after work!! No idea how Im going to find time for that either lol

Having a lady and work is problematic, at least. It is entirely possible to make time though, plenty on Dakka do. You've got to find the time, organise and make it happen. Maybe speak with your lady? Suggest to her that you'd like to be free to spend an evening or so dedicated to the hobby each month//week//depending on how lenient she is. Got a local gaming club? Maybe head down on there for your free evening, play a couple of games, do some painting, a couple of beers and have some fun. Everyone is eligible for a few hours of /me/ time - irregardless of how hard or busy one's schedule is. It just ain't healthy otherwise...

As it stands, you'll be banging your head against a wall for some time to come until you make the free time happen. You'll feel much better, I reckon, if you manage to find one evening a month even for the hobby. Something to look forward to, right?

or I could quit my job and Dump the 'Ol Crow.

Kidding aside, your right. I do Make time for gaming, once or twice a month. But i havn't thought of that for the hobby part. I'll see how it goes. Maybe I can get back on the model a month thing I had going.

As for the GK Im still at a loss?

Cool beans. Then make something special of it, dude. Find some local players and have a game or two with a beer and food!

Save the GK, I guess? Come back to them later down the pipe. If you still don't dig them, sell them.

    Consider this Styro...

If money is not your problem, would you consider hiring someone else to paint your GK's? That way your red corsairs stay "your special project", but you get another nice looking army to play with. You could probably have it done unit by unit so the entire cost didn't hit you all at once... and you'd have a nice looking, competitive army to play with while you were working on your RCs.

I'm still on the fence about them, I got them because they were a good price. I could sell them and make a profit.

Or keep them. Sink more money and/or time into them. I dont have the Codex and i know nothing about them.

At first i was hoping to add them to my RCs, but i dont think thats an option.
Then I thought I could make them Astral Claws, Using the GK codex, but they look so advance and the Dread Knights wouldn't fit the fluff.

Painting scheme for grey knights is pretty simple. I could just spray them and sell or keep them.

are they a worth while army? i dont see many posts on them. is there a reason?

The DriagoWing is pretty well known and competitive to a point. I don't think it's considered a "top list", but I think it's certainly considered "competitive".

Then again I'm probably not the best person to ask...

So this is the messup that put me over and thought about quitting the hobby.

Now that i look at it after a nice vacation in Mexico and a break from the hobby for a month. It's not that bad and fixible.

I think I give it a try tonight.

Any one interested in following the Grey Knight I created a Blog with a nice poll on what to do with them here:

I don't think that's bad at all Styro. Fix the fingers on the power glove, maybe the mold line on the base of the melta muzzle... not bad at all.

So I actually got some stuff done, I did fix the fist, no weathering or damage, I alos picked a head and painted the beard and hair. I really liked out it turned out. I think all thats left is to base him.... and get that mould line!!

Oh ya, I just noticed the seal needs to be done too. What did everyone think about the green seals? or should I just make them red?

Very nice Styro. Sometimes, time away is just what you need. Really like the way the fur/tails and wreath on his p-fist turned out. Nice job on his face too!

Thanks, I agree time away was all i needed.

I'm also thinking that these Grey Knights (if I choose to keep them)might be somthing to change things up. I've been painting red for 4-5 years

Yep... it helps. My orks & my kid's Necrons and Nids are all ways I take "mental breaks" from my Mantis Warriors... as well as actual periods where I don't paint much.

Came here for the RC update, but saw the GK dilemma and am going to offer my own opinion. Then I'll rave about the new RC stuff you posted.

I've been involved in this hobby for a very long time, and I've suffered from the same "plastic crack" addiction. You can read about the horror and my eventual triumph here if you want (scroll down to my most recent update).

If you want the short version, my advice is to take a break from absolutely everything for a while. No painting, no playing, no eBay, no anywhere else, no Dakka... and then head back to your hobby table. Take a long and hard look at everything. Figure out how old you are and how much time you may have left before you die. Then figure out (based on current data) how long it would take you to paint absolutely everything you own right now, w/o ever buying another thing. If your answer is "dead for 20 years before you get 1/2 of it done" then my recommendation is to pick the things you are genuinely connected to and let the rest go.

It's a brutal thing to think about, but the truth is that even if you have an unlimted cashflow, you have a finite amount of time. Quality or quantity? And if you keep going, who is going to be responsible for cleaning up all this stuff for your estate sale? Harsh words perhaps, but a sobering way to focus on what you truly want to do.

I have a friend that has Plastic Crack addiction coupled with "Newest Codex Release" syndrome. At this rate his kids are going to have to hire a backhoe and dump truck when he kicks off. Don't do that to yourself. Less truly is more sometimes, and this is a great example of that.

    *steps off soapbox*

Fantastic job on that model! I especially like the fading on the fur, it's very well done. The flesh tones you get are amazing as well. Really enjoying this thread and glad to see you're going to keep it going.

That is the funniest yet insiteful response I have ever seen.

    Lets do the math:
  • I plan to live forever

  • My RCs should take me forever to finish

  • These GKs might take 6 months to finish with my air brush

  • Therefore
    My RCs alone: Forever=Forever
My RCs and GKs: Forever+6 months=

Maybe I shouldn't metion that I want Tau as well

Thanks for the comments on My RC, I hope that yopu live forever as well so you can continue to follow this thread.

ROTFL I dint think that could get any funnier!

Im throwing that in my sig as well

    Update:
So ever since I got those grey knights, I haven't been able to put the brush down. Not a drop of it was on the Grey Knights, but surprising on my RCs.

I started by buying paint for the GKs Vajello Model Air Gun Metal and Silver. While in the model shop "Hornet Hobbies" I picked up 5mm masking tape. (over priced and an impuse buy)

Almost as soon as I got home I started on my RCs. I masked off 2 rhino top hatches(the red ones) and started spraying them painting the black boarder. I trying to recreate the black top hatch that I did a while back which matches my Avatar photo. After the first coat dried I re masked them and painted the thin black inner box.

photos will come like i said I couldn't put the brush down.

Maybe I should wait to finish this update until after I have pictures. I have alot to write and i think pictures will save time.

I've been doing RCs for years now and I am starting to get tired of red, so I decided that I was going to start another chapter to give more variety and colour to my army. And thus began my work on a world eaters army. So now I have a dark red army and a bright red army! From what I have experienced, starting a new army when you start to lose intrest in the hobby makes you want to paint and play more.
