I was thinking a bit, and really, the only reason "Warhammer 40 000" has "Warhammer" in it's title, is because GWs wanted to associate WHFB and 40K. Heck, it wasn't even "Warhammer 40K" when it first started.
So I just wanted to know, if you could rename 40K, what would you call it?

"Show me a man or a woman alone and I'll show you a saint. Give me two and they'll fall in love. Give me three and they'll invent the charming thing we call 'society'. Give me four and they'll build a pyramid. Give me five and they'll make one an outcast. Give me six and they'll reinvent prejudice. Give me seven and in seven years they'll reinvent warfare. Man may have been made in the image of God, but human society was made in the image of His opposite number, and is always trying to get back home." -Glen Bateman, The Stand (C&U), 3rd paragraph of Chapter 42, by Stephen King

Wow, some really good ones early on.... what can I come up with now... hmm, well let's see. The more popular choices for the game are Melta-Spam and Assault units.... so maybe "Melta Assault," as you see that the most often.... or "Constant Repetition of Annoying Protests," or CRAP for short....
In all seriousness. I will second Darkhound's "Legacy of the Imperium," Frostreaver's "Grimdark," and Nurglich's "Dark Imperium." Those are all excellent suggestions. However I would have to more get behind "Grimdark" and Person Person's "There is Only War," as they are more secular in nature, compared to the others being directly related to the Empire of Man.
For my own, serious, suggestion, I put forth Acerbica. Which is flamboyantly latinized Acerbic, which sort of means "sarcastic," which pretty well describes 40k in my opinion.
|
Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular." |

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake. |

"Dark Millenium"
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only psykers and datafax cards.
the Dark Millenium expansion was the last update before GW started to dissasociate 40k and WHFB, so its fitting that it could have been the original title had it been their intentions all along to have 2 completely different systems.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.
