Have Griffintropii been opened up as add ons? If so, how much are they?

We have opened the doors up wide. 3 out f 5 army bundles made available, two more to follow (Ogres and Orcs). Plus a few new banner coming up as scheduled in the begining of the campaign; if the plastic forest goblins are to become a reality, this is their last shot.
Thank you for your consideration!

Hoping that it puts an accelerator on the campaign, but I feel like these would have been more useful had they been offered earlier, or even from the beginning. Unfortunately, there's not much for me there, as I have a ton of Shieldmaidens and Orcs already, and I'm not huge on those Ogres (though if I was, I'd have already grabbed a bunch). I'll have a closer look at the Sisters and see how the finished models appear.

Does anyone have links to the final, shipped HIPS models?

I've posted some pics of the sisters earlier in the thread. What exactly would you like to see?

Pity that we will probably not be showing off vehicles, warmachines and other goodies we had in store for this project, we did leave some teasers and the promise to follow up on this however in order to complete the range, i.e. even if we don't unlock the Drotts &Drottchins (they unlock contemporaneously), the funding of the Forest Goblins project will make us commit to make the Drotts & Drottchins our very next KS project.

Dropping these here :-)
Have a great weekend everyone, here's hoping for an awesome last 5 days of the project! :-D

Feel like the KS could have done with a lot more Stretch goals in the 5000 to 25000 range; first one kicks in at 27,000 and is nearly achieved. Also the Social Stretch goals could also be broader (4 in total) with the 400 funders one only being of use to backers claiming the wartoad cavalry (leaves a gap of 400 between the 200 backers goal (just achieved) and the 600 where every backer benefits.

Still, the KS seems to be gaining momentum now and hopefully some good progress over the next few days;

The KS doesn't fund until $25,000 is hit, normally stretch goals don't apply until after a project hits it's initial funding. Plus $25,000 is only half of whats required to make this project a reality Shieldwolf are operating on we pay half you pay half.

Even the unlocked backer goals aren't technically unlocked as they don't exist if the project doesn't fund.

$19,704 at the moment. The last 3 days have seen an upswing and have beaten the daily amounts needed to fund, today has already beaten the minimum daily total required.

I hope we make it. It's really sad to see that a lot of the more "down to earth" gaming projects struggle to fund lately, probably because people were spoiled by crazy campaigns that deliver 5kg of chinese PVC minis for $100. We had similar issues with Fireforge's HIPS Peasants/Zombies.

Sometimes it just doesn't work.

I like the project, but I frankly don't need more goblins. And I don't need to go through Kickstarter to order stuff Shieldwolf Miniature already sells on their website - especially when I will have to wait to get it.

Yeah, sure, people got spoiled with previous Kickstarters, but I don't think that's the only reason. These goblins are nice to have on the market for sure, but it's already so crowded nowadays...most backers don't have infinite money or storage to pile up loads of miniatures they will never use anyway.

Agree to a degree but in many cases these Kickstarters drag people in with lots of offers and a reward based system in seeing a steady tier of things to be unlocked; this attracts attention and watching all the locked goals unlocking is similar to the videogame psychology of unlocking stuff with each level.

From what I have read there is another big reveal on Monday so looking forward to that! One question I was wondering, what size bases are the Forest Goblin troopers on? Hard to tell if they are on 20mm

From the campaign:

All items have been placed on the same base size (20mm square) to facilitate comparison. Miniatures from this project will be supplied with ROUND bases however, with the possibility for the backers to ask during their pledge manager to SWAP all round bases with square bases instead.

Full sprue shots would be amazing, as well as a few assembled, posed figures (with and without giant shoulderpads - if you have them). I'll filter the thread in a min and see what you've already posted. Thanks!

Very much hoping that this one funds - but please take the lesson here for the Drott/chins campaign - go all in with leveraging your catalogue of the army deal offers from Day 1 to give you that large initial boost. Also bear in mind that that boost by offering older stuff from previous campaigns will become smaller each time - because, for example, I've already got Shieldmaidens and Savage Orcs - and will then also have Fantasy Sisters and Forest Goblins - so the pool of stuff that your existing backerbase doesn't already have will slowly get smaller..

Even if you guys think your offerings are the best models ever (and you will, of course), it's up to the wider market, not what you guys think - more offerings from day 1 = more of a chance to fund quickly = more people stay in and get on with the SGs = more chance of snowball success, etc.

I think "spoiled for choice" is a better term than "spoiled", as the latter has a rather nasty undertone in English - and no manufacturer is more entitled than any other to a consumer's dollars - even if there's something that you or I or anyone else personally would like to see funded. Manufacturers offer up something, and if the wider market sees it as worthwhile enough, then it gets funded. If not, then it doesn't happen.

Speaking of "piles of models", Sarouan makes an excellent point - having gone through my KoW Vanguard pledge yesterday, it looks like I'll be keeping the resins and a few of the restic models while making a friend of a friend very happy with a ton of models that I will personally never get around to doing anything with when I have (for example) Stormcast to build and paint rather than Basileans. The HATE pledge on the other hand is/was a brilliant source of very nice monopose Chaos Marauders with a recycling box full of "game". Shadow of Brimstone has a lot of middling quality models with quite a good game. Plus the pretty huge boardgame crowd bumps many of these campaigns up dramatically, and many of the BG crowd aren't at all interested in non-boardgame multipart HIPS models like these or Fireforge. I've painted a total of two of my existng Shieldwolf models to date. Not because they're bad models or anything - but I have SO MANY models, and they haven't been things I've ended up working on (especially since I cycle through projects, and don't suddenly decide to change gears when a KS shows up 10-16 months later)

So basically, YMMV dramatically across campaigns. Speaking of "spoiled", look at Vigilus and the massive GW output of late. GW stuff is not a KS (obviously), but if you don't think their stuff isn't a direct competitor and money vacuum to minis KS campaigns (especially ones like this and Fireforge) then you're missing a big part of the puzzle. I'd say it has a lot more to do with the appeal of campaigns like this than you're taking into consideration - which is why I leaned into the "cost per goblin" point earlier.

The fact that I like Shieldwolf as a company and from my interaction with Angelos and the others on the personal level is the only reason I'm willing to pay now for the models this far out when there's GW stuff I'd like to purchase on the shelf right now.

Take someone similar to myself, but who doesn't know or care either way about SW, and their money will probably just go to the Night Goblins/Moonclan Grots/Gloomspite Gitz that are new & shiny & on sale today. That's a significant direct competition to this campaign. (And the Perry's stuff for much of the Fireforge offerings - and that's without considering if those potential backers like Space Marines or Chaos Marines or whatever as well.

Even without the scifi versions being unlocked, I would have potentially been interested in these for gretchin conversion fodder, but the more I looked at them, the less keen I was on the sculpts. They're competently done and nicely detailed, but for my money the heads need to be slightly smaller, and the poses more dynamic. As is, aside from the mirrored but otherwise identical legs, the only difference between most of these models is how many feathers there are on their heads.

If they were intended as square-base, rank-and-file models, you can get away with static posing. But once you put them on round bases and skirmish with them, the models need a little more variation.

The character models are ace, though.

The heads being moulded onto the bodies is a pretty big drawback as well, to be quite honest. They look fine from the front, but the side and three-quarter views don't look good at all - again, I think this is a byproduct of being designed for WHFB-style ranked units.

I agree. I assume this was done to appease the KoW and 9th Age crowds - but honestly, how big is that market, and especially the subset of it interested in such a niche army? Is it worth compromising sculpt quality to cater to rank-and-file fantasy forest goblin players? This question isn’t rhetorical, I’m not familiar with any KoW or 9th age players so I have no idea how popular the games are, nor if they have Forest Goblin armies in them.

Otherwise I tend to agree with azazelx, the timing of this campaign right after the Gloomspite Gita release is very unfortunate. Although I’m a bit surprised they didn’t capitalise on it by offering more proxies to some of the GW models - say, the Spiderfang Spider Riders which are old, monopose and in dire need of updating. It’s also a unit that was used in old WHFB, could be used in both 9th age and KoW, and still exists in AoS. That would surely be more popular than these (imo not very good-looking nor thematic) toad riders?

Sheildwolf are also working on their own game so I presume that that is rank and file as well which is influencing their design choices

Who the hell else would they cater to? That's the only market for a hundred non-GW goblins.

I tend to buy lots of HIPS minis so that I can build enough for a skirmish force (or Brimstone threat) and then have lots of bits for kitbashing. I know others who do the same. However, it's true I tend to back at lower levels than an Oldhammer player would. I am not pledging for these goblins because they just don't interest me, and the static poses are a part of that.

The other relevant thing here is that these designs were done quite some time ago now, so things like the static poses and toads will have been sculpted and essentially finalised some time ago. The toads, as much as I dislike the actual designs, are clearly squig analogues. So while I dislike their execution, I understand why they are there.

Shadeglass Maze

That makes sense, of course, but with GW having just released a pretty incredible plastic kit for both squigs and squig riders, the toads just don't measure up, imo. They're also much too large as far as base size goes...

I do love that Steelgoth, but the centerpiece here is the gobbos, and their lack of dynamism definitely hurts...

No disagreement from me on any of those points, though I don't think they're necessarily supposed to be direct proxies for regular squig riders as much as "close enough" thematically.

No idea if there's a direct analogue for them in the WHFB8/9th Age Orc/Goblin army, myself.

Actually there isn't, this is our own design for our own game. Which we believe brings some fresh ideas to the community. :-)
