Level 2...

Simply because I don't know the rules very well.

And I've never played in a tourney or gone to any events, I'm more of a painter... I have put off social events so I can paint though.

Level 2-3 I use 40K jokes in my everyday language and use phrases from the fluff the same.

My girlfriend will learn the fluff before too long.

Im a level 2, although i do have moments at an extreme level, when I go to sleep I have usually read 40+ pages of a 40k book, so I have dreams about it, some good, some extremly terrifying.

Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I Die, You are forgiven. If I Live, I will kill you." Such is the Rule of Honor.

Try Gaunt's Ghosts (Imperial Guard) or Space Wolf (Space Wolves...obviously). I'm sure others can give you more recommendations, but my friend has been bugging me for months to get me to read GG, and Space Wolf has some really awesome moments. The into starts with Ragnar taking down a Chaos Predator by himself - on foot - using nothing more than a Krak Grenade, his own muscles, and a couple of frags. Holy .

I'm way off the chart I spent the day before I got married in GW playing a game against my best man.

Even thought about going down on the morning as I wasn't getting married till 2, but decided that turning up would be better than rolling a D6 to see if I could squeeze another turn in.

Do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband; in victory or defeat, cheese or fluff, for better or worse comp scores, as long as you both shall pass your armor saves?

Save vs. nuptuals on a 5+, or go to ground behind the cake table for 3+ cover? The second seems like a great deal, but she'll probably just assault you. Garter belts count as frag grenades in this edition.

I would say level 2.5, because i know the rules for the most party with great detail and once or twice i have quoted page numbers. But if someone has a question when we play i almost always can answer.

And while i havent done anything as manly as playing warhammer the whole day before i got married (mainly because i am 18 and hell if i wanna be married), but i have had people over to play warhammer along with my girlfriend. Then told all my friends to leave and me and my gf have rocked the night away Women who likes nerds are awesome.

And it made me wonder how much of an actual nerd I am. There are levels of nerdiness. I admit that.

Level 1 nerdiness: I can't watch the game this weekend, I'm going to go play 40k.
Level 2 nerdiness: That's incorrect, it was actually Horus who struck the mortal blow on the emperor.
Level 3 nerdiness: Look, I don't have my rulebook here, but if you make a note to turn to page 67, on the right side under the second paragraph where it says...
Level 4 nerdiness: Yes honey, that lingerie looks really nice...I just need to finish assembling this model.
Level 5 nerdiness: I know that I could make an extra mortgage payment with this money I've been saving, but I would rather fly across the country to play with little plastic men with other nerds.

Where do you fit in?

Level 1 yep do that
Level 2 hurr what are you talking bout here the emps on the throne
Level 3 Haven't memorized the rule book
Level 4 what is this Lingerie you speak of and what is a gurl?
Level 5 I won't fly with my plastic men I would take the train
Level 6 look at my avatar that is my skin nuff said

I still think Ciaphas Cain novels are the best intro to the 40k Universe :3

Alright...

Someone give me a *real* good 40k novel, and I'll order it off Amazon. It needs to be a stand-alone or a series opener - nothing in the middle of a series that I'm going to miss reference material for.

I was in Books-a-Million the other day and flipped open Titanicus. A few pages later, after reading about some TURBOLASERS on a Titan vaporizing flesh, I realized that they ripped off a Star Wars novel and only changed names and locations.

For the Emperor!

Or the Ciaphas Cain first omnibus; hero of the Imperium.

Eisenhorn Omnibus

Gaunt's Ghost ominbus (The founding)

Mostly, its all just series... but yea it really comes down to what you want to read about. Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Inquisitors etc...
