Keep up the good work man! Looking forward to seeing this done im guna have to make one!!

They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me. Like clay I shall mold them, And in the furnace of war I shall forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armor shall I clad them, and with the mightiest of guns will they be armed. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

here is the next building i will show you to make for your project

it is about 6 inches tall

but you want to draw out you plan on the foam board

then you want to cut up your foam boar into three pieces if you haven't already

then you want to cut out your door and windows

on your middle foam board you want to mark out where the corner is on your sides
(sorry no picture forgot to take it)

you then want to carve out the bricks on your walls

then on your side pieces you want to cut out your marked spots

then you want to cut out every other brick on the side wall and make it fit wtih cut out ones on the main wall

then due the same to the other side and glue everything in

and that is how you make the second building if you wish for you board

I would be inclined to leave some rubble attached to the edge of the building. Good work so far1

I would redo the rubbed edge so it isn't a gentle carved slope, knock out some bricks to give it a jagged edge. But looking good otherwise.

Probably work

How do you paint these? I can't imagine that the foam takes to kindly to spraypaint.

good question but you take a black paint and paint it on not spray
then you would paint it like normal

What he said is true, it can be done that way. I'd just like to say that it's better to apply a layer of watered down glue to the entire surface and use normal primer after it dries. It will create a more even surface for you to paint on.

@ OP - I like these buildings. My only criticism are the cutouts for the windows/doors. They look pretty raggedy and uneven. A tip you could try for cutting even lines from both sides: stick a straight pin through both sides of the foam core at every corner. Assuming your pin was straight, you can just play connect the dots with your hobby knife.

Long ago Games Workshop scratch built ALL of the terrain in their stores hills, woods, craters, buildings, and so on. IT was a friggin work of art and people can be proud of.

NOW you go to and play on a sterilized GW PLASTIC STATIC board with the the rest of the plastic sterilized scenery!!!!! Of all of the things that I hate about Games Workshop of late, the lack of creativity of their boards.

You sir are doing it in the old Skool manner. Keep it up and I look forward to more of this work.

Thank you.

"We are the Ultramodrines, And We Shall Fear No Trolls. bear this USR with pride".

Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?

You must recite every rule of Dakka Dakka. BACKWARDS.

While I can't speak for GW on their reasoning behind all the plastic terrain, I can CERTAINLY speak on the subject you've brought up. As a guy who has made hundreds of terrain pieces, it can be tedious as HECK to make yet another hill or stone outcrop or tree stand. Especially so for tournies. Back in... 2003-ish, just before 4th ed. came out in hardback (the first time the hard back book was available for sale), we ran a tourney @ GenCon. It was the first year they were in Indy. It was scheduled to allow 80 people, so we had terrain for roughly 40 or so tables. It turned out to be a 64-person RTT. You can imagine how many trees and hills I had to make. Fortunately for us (me), a couple friends at GW Chicago came in and helped out with a ton of terrain, Ork buildings and such.

So, I guess my point is, once you've made SOOOOO much terrain, being able to just knock out some drybrushing jobs and cover a table is a godsend. Add to that, the complete and utter disregard and disrespect many FLGS players have for store terrain (that, and prolonged use), making assembly line custom terrain can be a real chore.

Don't be so modest

Terrain's looking great though. The brickwork is awesome! I feel like the painted bricks would look a bit more natural with either more bright bricks, or a few different random colors. The current random bright reds seem a bit out of place. Maybe if you toned them down a bit. Overall, still looks great!

I like the idea of sharing all of your modeling and painting steps, but I'd much rather see this in the P&M Blogs than here until it's a full and finished comprehensive post (which I fully expect it will be from the great work I see so far!).

For now I'll be moving it over there. Feel free to post the full thing into a single post when it's all done!

It's good nice and siple stuff. Imressed your going with the brickwork. When I'm making scenery I usually don't bother preferring simple concrete.
