A couple
1) "The Narrator". The entire game he would announce loudly every time I missed a roll "AND you die" "Boom! you can't roll! They all just got smashed in the face" "NOW THAT was a terrible roll, all of your guys melt!".
Then every time I killed something of his "Lucky roll!" "NO!! I get cover from this small 1/8" bump on the gaming table"
I mean...comeon...I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I was really to jump over thre table at the guy. Dude asked me for a game the following week, and I told him "nope, it was zero fun playing with you"
2) "The Rules Lawyer who doesn't know the rules". Playing this dude and 2nd turned I looking into my codex for something. He gets all mad "you should know your rules bro", in a real condescening way. Only problem was that the game was 3 hours long because he spent the entire game with his nose in his own codex and the rule book either because he didn't know his army or wanted to argue everything that didn't go his way.

I'm not sure if this is a case of TFG or veteran player or what.
A guy, I'd have to say mid-30's, married and everythin', was a regular over at our LGS after he moved from Ohio. One night, after seeing that he actually had an army, by friend set up a game between his Draigowing and my 1250pt Vulkan List.
He won, fair and square, but I mean he was merciless for the new guy and he didn't really hold back on the new guys (my other two friends and I) when we played another game later.
When he found out that I gave my friend my Tau army, he let him borrow at least 1000 points worth of Battlesuits and other, mechanized stuff in the middle of our 1500pt game. I still won though, with a Terminator Sergeant, Techmarine, and Vulkan drawing everyone's fire and passing each possible save. It was amazing.
But I digress. He's a nice guy and a little cocky at times.
I don't know if this is a TFG in the works or it is just me.

Yup, he just got a new dex and while he was complaining how the ruined his book, he would roll his dice then say remove that unit and then complain how sorry his book is and then roll dice and say remove that unit. It was a really bad game and by turn 3 I conceded. He also has a bad habit of putting his dice in a big bag and reaching in it all the time. If he needs to roll high the dice where one color and low another color. Put your dice on the table or don't play.

I was playing a 1000 point game against Grey Knights. The guy I was playing is really nice and I love playing with him. He wants to try a full paladin squad and Libby, so his list dosent follow force org, but Im ok with that. Im playing tau, so I outnumber him by alot. Then this other guy tells me I tailored my list against him. Hes like, your gonna shoot him to death by the end of turn one. Dont tailor man." WITH TAU? NO, I THINK I HEARD YOU WRONG. IM TAILORING WITH TAU? ALL I CAN DO IS SHOOT! I also had that exact list saved in battlescribe mobile before the game. They game went fine after he left. His paladins survived till turn three.
Same day, same guy. He wants to play a 1500 point game. Im using my Tau again. After trying to explain GW buisness strategy to me, and getting really angry that I was basically saying theres no point in trying to understand something and complain about something that will never change. (what would you do if you owned a monopoly?) He set down his economics book (for some reason he carried it around probbly for this situation) and said, whatever lets play. So I set up first, followed by him. Only thing was, he already had his army on the table, he just moved his units where he wanted them, so I had no idea what was set up and what wasnt. He goes first. But he moves his deldar bikes twice in the same turn. I ask why did you move them twice? He imediatly makes a scene, calling me a liar and a cheater. I try saying that I was wondering if he had put them on the table at X posisiton, set them up in Y posisition, and moved them Z posistion. Or if he had accidentally moved twice.Thats all I wanted to ask. But he cuts me off, says F**k you and rage quits. After I waste my time in a pointless argument with him and set up all my units.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
He also will not even consider playing 6th edition. Every time he sees my rulebook he says "Space Marine Edition!" in a very condencending tone. And even as I try to explain that Vanilla marines are not OP in any way, he cut me off with the same remark. He always tells me im tailoring a list, when I usually use what I have painted and the units I enjoy. He hasnt played one game in 6th yet, but he thinks he knows every new change, he thinks every new special rule belongs to marines, he constantly complains about AP3 power weapons (Ap3 makes sense to me) and harasses me for running 5 terminators with TH/SS in almost every game. (aparrantly they should be 60 points per model, for a one wound model...) Its my best assualt unit. Not only that, but they are my favorite unit. Im gonna take them most of the time. He bashes every marine player and every other army except for SW, IG, DE, and Eldar because he had once or still does play them. Whatever you tell him is wrong, outright, with no consideration of oposing views, and you are responded to with a arrogance that cant be matched by most people. And he gets angry enough that he shows it on his face. He really wants to like hit you or something. Its really sad.

I have found that the majority of TFGs don't realize they are TFGs. The ones that do like to troll. I tend to joke around and troll at the gaming table, but I like to think I know where to draw the line. To some people I may be TFG, to others, they adore playing me.

Some people have personal issues to the point where they lash out on others. Just put it out to be their own personal insecurities and problems and move on.

I played a guy just last night. His models looked like a kindergarten class went to work on them. He talked very loud like he wanted every one in the room to hear him. Every person that walked by we would brag about killing my hive tyrant, all game long. He rules lawyer me and was wrong ever time, (in his defense he looked up the rules and found them fast.)

Being good at the game or taking a good list does not make you TFG. Automatically Appended Next Post: Midnightdeathblade wrote:A guy at our Flgs, who thankfully rarely shows anymore, was the extreme representation of arrogance. Any opinion (even facts) that rivalled his own thinking were out of the question. In a 2v2 game, he set up all his little tank trap things in a huge line that co*k blocked our armies (I played orks, my bro played nids) he also played burna heavy orks. SO he would force us to move through narrow gaps and he'd turbo boost his burnas in a truck and flame the f**k out of our blobs of troops. Meanwhile, his comrade (and best friend) blasted us with sub munitions from three hammer heads. It was my brothers first and last game. He left his orks in a tackle box for a long period of time at the store, and when he recovered them, they had been beaten up. They were obviously moved multiple times by the owner, but he reverted to blamming me since I was the youngest of our group. Pot-bellied, big-headed, arrogant, son'of'a bitch that one.

First off i must say that i can be overtly competative with certain people. This leads me to make TFG moves when it comes to how much of a model is in cover etc. It is something i have been working on because i dont like being TFG. I only get this way with a few people, but still i always want to be the funnest opponent possible.
I have met people who tailored their list to beat mine, called dice and cheered when i did poorly, and did other less likable suff, however one fellow sticks in my mind.
I was at a tourni last year in LA. Dude sets up his army across from mine and begins to talk about how well painted they are, pointing out little details etc. The army looked like an 8 year old had painted it but i tried to humor him. He then tells me how he is going to win and he wont consider it a victory till he has tabled me. Then he begins to tell me how the sponsons of his tanks are not the hull of the vehicle so he willl move them and park them so that they are inside of buildings. Other rules lawyering and weird interpretations ensue. I have never met a more difficult person to game with. Final round of the game, the final die roll i fired a shot across the table to blow up a landraider and win the game. Time was up, we were off to lunch, yet he proceeds to try and say i should play into lunch, just one more round. HELL no.
I try not to be TFG but sometimes, things have gotten the best of me. What helps me most is to remember that i am playing with mandollies. I also make sound effects when i am loosing or feeling serious. It helps. reallly.

Once I was in a GW (I will not name as it is a nice store now) and I played my (when they just came out) TK against a Dwarf (he looked like he was a year younger than me) player as we were having a game , now he told me he knew the rules and seeming that he had a big (although it must be said unpainted) army, I believed him... Oh how I was so wrong as he didn't even how the movement phase went, so I had to teach the kid the basic rules (now this would have been fine, but it really would have been nice to know that he did not lie to me and say that he did know the rules when he didn't). we were having the game (and it was pleasant he wasn't knocking me or being a bad sport) until 3 other lads came (they were older than us, were nice people but knew the rules well) over our table and even though we were playing right and they knew the rules and were helping us, but they were trying to help the Dwarf players tactics (and at this time I just started fantasy as well but I only knew the rules because I read the rule book) it was at this time that I felt penalised as the older lads were helping him with tactics (I also had a warsphinx but I didn't know how to exactly use it on the table tactically and my opponent had a cannon and he had help with tactics where to shoot it) he then won the game and the only thing I learned out of this was that warsphinxs take crumble tests (which even if its right they did not tell me anything on how to use the monster). Then (now this was the really big point that got on my nerves) every time I tried talking to him or when he crossed me when I was in the store he would repeatedly boast about "How he beat such a noob" (the "noob" being me) I didn't complain or say anything as it is not like me to complain about a game (and since I only come into the store a few times but enough to be noticed I do not want to be known as a kid who moans when he come to the GW). what really ticked me off was that he was calling me a noob, when he didn't even know how to place his models in rank and file... needless to say I dont go to that GW too often and I will stay at games of war (my FLGS in Seaham) as it is just plain better.

Has anybody ever encountered the following?
1) The nice guy: He gives you free food (juice and crisps), he donates money to charity, in his spare time he builds orphanages. He lets you away with murder. Consequently, you feel bad about beating him, so you lose on purpose.
2) It's my store, so you'd better let me win. One guy I knew who owned a FLGS used to threaten to ban people who beat him, and would always make a move on the kids' mothers!! True story.
3) The golden demon painter. There was a guy who's army was so well painted, you spent two hours dazzled by the brilliance of his painting, and how bad your army was in comparison. While you're admiring his minis, he's winning!!
4) The speedster. He plays so fast, you're standing there scratching your head wondering what just happened.
And the one I hate the most. At tournaments, there is always somebody who finishes a game before you, and comes over to your table and does annoying things like crunching crisps when you're busy concentrating. Rant over.

I'm the same way. If you abuse the list making then your likely to abuse the rules as well. It makes it so much easier to get fun games rather than shitfest fights over rules. Granted my list of "no"s is different than his. (Teclis, fateweaver, thorek, and unpainted fotm armies. )

I must be lucky, I've... actually never really played against a TFG. I've played against a couple of kids who were pretty awful, but can kids really count as TFGs? I'm mostly remembering this one kid who must've been around 12 years old who owned one squad of Space Marines and one Rhino, so he would copy super-hard netlists and then proxy everything with a combination of store-owned models and soda cans. He was also a smug little bastard. I do not know if smugness is typical of twelve year olds. It also doesn't help that, in general, I really do not like kids, so I try to avoid playing against them when I can.
That's about it. I mean, I play Warmachine so I encounter people who take disgustingly powerful combos that I'm not familiar with, but that's not really a TFG move, that's... knowing your army (and your opponent's army) really well. And it's not even that they tailor their list, it's just that they know what my army can do to their army and what their army can do to mine, and I happen to know less about their army (especially Retribution of Scyrah, Mercs, and pretty much all the Hordes factions. I just don't know them very well off the top of my head).

Honestly did he know you were new guys? Otherwise I would say he is not a TFG, hell he sounds like TFM (The F*****g man). Loaning out a few hundred $$ worth of minis to someone the guy didnt know well sounds look a cool deed. Playing to win is not that uncommon, especially if he wants to collect several armies but wants to keep his warhammer budget down.

Being good at the game or taking a good list does not make you TFG.
Oh i have met people that have great lists and stomp me into the ground regularly(although each time i get closer to beating them)
Its coupled with the fact of how they act and how they play that makes them TFG
Like the guy i mentioned. My Legionaires here coming in. He straight up said he hopes i scatter of the board and the enitre game he said "I need a win to feel better about this day" Automatically Appended Next Post: Do_I_Not_Like_That wrote:Has anybody ever encountered the following?

.
Yes actually. He bought food for everyone at Warmahordes day.

I once had a game against TFG when I first started 40k. I had no idea of the rules at that point, as the lil' bitch wouldn't let me even glance through his rulebook. He had let me borrow the ork half of the Black Reach set for this game, to promptly Deep Strike the Dreadnought on top of my squad of Ork Boys, killing them all (he had also bought a DropPod & a Battlewagon). He then used the TL Lascannon to kill my Warboss and then assaulted the squad of Nobs with the PF on the Dread. The only things I had left were the three Deffkoptas & my Battlewagon. (I one-shotted the Dread with the BW's gun, I had no idea what it was, he said it was S10 in the previous game where I was the SM, I rolled three sixes in a row; to hit, to pen, damage). The Deffkoptas just harrassed the Termies as best they could before being Dakka'd out of the sky by the Tac squad.
Looking back, I realise that i was cheated out of this world. Assaulting after Deep Strike, assaulting after firing a heavy weapon, assaulting a different target from what he just shot, and thats just the Dreadnought.
Needless to say, I don't play him any more

I suppose I must be lucky, since I have not (yet) played against a TFG. There could be that player (a good guy actually) who just has a bunch of Space Marines, all painted black and calling them his "Grey Knights/Dark Angels/Black Templars/Blood Angels". I mean, I'm ok with proxying but, come on, buy a couple of miniatures too. It's not that I wouldn't play him, it is just that it has just gotten a bit tiresome seeing just some black minis with gleaming silver guns and a white shoulderpad.
But certainly nothing like some of the stories some of you have had thank Gork.

*awkwardly raised hand*
...yeah so, I've been this guy. Still am to some degree- maybe not to the point you're talking about but I'll buy folks food between games or offer to help out with cleanup, and I typically like to make small talk between games to see how people are doing outside of the hobby. I definitely am not friendly to people just so I can win, but I just don't have the whole 'power gamer' mentality and unfortunately that seems to rankle some of my opponents. Actually had the store owner where I used to play come over and chew me out, since he didn't feel like I was actually trying to win against a friend of mine. I never played in that store again (and consequently, haven't picked up anything Warhammer related until this past month.)
I have met TFG once or twice though. Had one guy stand there going on and on about how superior his army was to all others, would stand over you with the rulebook while you were working on a list in the store or painting a new purchase and tell you all the myriad ways he could destroy your new toy or why your list simply wouldn't beat his.
The other was an army I actually beat... the guy got so annoyed about the whole thing, started telling me that I couldn't use my army anyway since 'the whole thing was proxy.' Considering I converted my Grail Knights, rather than shelling out for all of the official GW models, I guess maybe that's true. But I like to think that even if I'd emptied my bank account the outcome of the game was due to my ability with the units, rather than the fact they were KOTR with Green Stuff helms/apparel and a special paintjob, instead of the official GW bunch. The TO had said he had no issue with the army going into it, and the guy had said he was fine with it pre-game... so apparently he was only fine with it up until the point he started losing to it? I dunno. Just really marred my first tournament experience though.
On the other hand, my very first game I got slaughtered so bad and got so fed up that I just sighed before the game was done and shoved all my stuff in a box to go home without a handshake or anything- so I guess karma evened out. Maybe we're all TFG at one time or another... it's just that some folks have the good fortune to realize how they're acting and change the behavior.
Edit- I can has spellcheck.

The only guy I'm not a fan of my at my flgs. Does the whole my outdated army is the best routine. And honestly normally I dig that underdog mentality. But he takes it to the extreme like the eldar player earlier in the thread.
