Not that I'm disagreeing with you, but i don't see how they can be unhappy about us monopolizing the kitchen. You'd think they'd welcome 20+ people placing food orders at lunch time, unless that is, they're rubbish cooks and can't handle the pressure :(

Option 2 does sound best, although how much will it cost?

I'd go with option 2 as well. Do you know if they allow you to bring snacks/etc into the game area? If we are eating later I may need to keep myself going with nibbles

Yeah, we thought this might happen - what's strange is that they regularly do tournament groups of more than 50 people???

I'd be up for ordering pizzas, no probs. I guess this sort of thing might be best done at registration - get there, say hello, £2 prize fund and what do you want for lunch...?

Buffet sounds the best idea I think. Though is gay cannot cook more than 12 meals at once, what happens when a GT is on?

yeah,
I don't thinking they are being a pain, they are just saying the kitchen isn't made for 20+ orders going through all at once!

I guess for GT's they have lots of cold buffet type stuff.

Another option is to have 12 dakkites order between game 2-3 and the next 12 order between games 3-4.

Panic...

Should have been a bit clearer on some things:

For those who have never been to WHWorld, Bugmans is next to the gaming hall and has a small kitchen. On the other side of Bugmans through a 'no entry to the public' sign is the staff canteen (I ate there a few times when I worked for GW). This place is really big and its here that they cater for GTs and the like.

Bugmans are not happy because if we order 2 dozen meals it means no public will be able to order anything for over an hour (makes no sense as we are public but hey ho)
The other tournament going on that weekend is booking the staff canteen (you can do this at the weekends because there's not many staff in the factory/design studio/admin etc.) so if we choose we can eat with them but they get to pick what food's on as they are a bigger group (about 50).
If we book pizzas/buffet food this will also be served in the canteen but will need to be ordered and paid for in advance so I will need to collect money from people fairly soon. The up-side is we can pick what we want and eat when we want.

what do we want to do?

OK, just looked at the numbers - for 16 pizzas (12" deep pan), 10x bowls of spicy potato wedges, 10x bowls of chips and 10x salad bowls (does that sound right for 25 people?) it would come to £7 each.

Should I book this if people fancy the pizza option?

Can't we just eat whenever we want? Wait, that sounds arsey.... what I mean is, are we all going to be eating at the same times? Are all the games going on simultaneously? We could just order food whenever we feel like, at different times, like the general public.

If there's going to be a lunch-break or something, option 2 sounds best - how would you collect the money?

We COULD just have a light lunch at WW, then all go for a curry when Bugman's kicks out...

Aye i just want to get pissed and then eat at the end of the night, i dont want it to look like a kids birthday party where we all sit round a big table and pass the jelly around.

Ive booked me hotel, but screw the meal, lets just play and eat at the end of the night, all the games wont be in sync anyways, so if people want to nip into bugmans for a sarnie its easier that way.

Oh and also i want have to kill anyone if they get some pizza sauce on Captain Inigo's heraldry!

Look guys, its got to be all or nothing otherwise it gets far too complicated.

Best thing to do will be to try and get through the morning games as soon as possible and have a long lunch break that people can make their own arrangements in.

I'll let WHWorld know we'll sort out our own lunches, then the only thing we need to do on the morning is get £2 off everyone for the prize fund.

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

You say that like jelly is a bad thing. I have a big bowl of jelly in front of me right now. Well... I did...

I'm fine sorting food out ourselves during the day and doing a curry/drinks in the evening. Not having been before, are we able to have snacks at the tables?

You can take drinks in to the gaming hall but food is usually a no-no (they don't want to have to vacuum crumbs out of the scenery).

Fair enough. I hope you don't think we're being ungrateful - I'm sure everyone will join me in thanking you for your efforts to sort all this out. It just seems like less work for you if we all make our own food arrangements.

Thanks again.

Not at all Albatross

At the end of the day it's no trouble for me to fire off a couple of e-mails. If people want stuff doing then I'm happy to sort it, but as it seems easier for us to make our own way then that's good too!

I do appreciate the thanks as well. I really want to give you guys a good day

What is the taxi situation like in Nottingham? Are they plentiful enough that you can usually flag one down easily, or is it pretty much phone for a minicab only?

I am yet to decide which hotel to book so if anyone can recommend a convenient, safe, well located one with comfort more important than price, then please do post some info

@Lego: I stayed in the Premier Inn when i went to the BB GT last month. It's about 15 mins walk from WW or a 3 min drive. It costs about £50 for a double room

Taxi ranks and minicab offices are the way, not flagging one down. But if you're anywhere vaguely near the centre of town you shouldn't have a problem.

When I'm working there I usually get booked into the Park Plaza, in the town centre, which is as nice as any new, decent, mid-price hotel (i.e better than a Holiday Inn), but comes in at around £90 per night. There's also a very good one in the lace market. However, since I'm paying for it myself this time, I think I'll be going down the Holiday Inn route myself....

UPDATE - Second mission details (BP refers to Battle Points):

Sieze Ground.

Now that you have secured a landing zone, you must push outwards to try and claim key locations in the surrounding country. It is important to preserve your best units for the campaign ahead, but any opportunity to rob your enemies of such units must be taken!

Primary Mission: After the players have picked their deployment zone but before any units are placed, each player, beginning with the first, must take it in turns to place 2 objective markers each in no-mans land. The markers may not be placed within 12" of a board edge or another marker. These objectives are captured as per normal rules (non-vehicle troop choices within 3")
Each objective marker is worth 4 BPs if controlled. If a marker is contested or has no units within 3", both players gain 2 BP each.
Secondary Mission: Before the game begins, you must declare which unit in your army has the highest points cost. If two or more units have the same cost, the controlling player must choose one of them. This unit is designated as being vital to the campaign/ If you destroy your opponent's vital unit you gain 2 BPs. If your vital unit survives you gain 2 BPs. The unit does not count as destroyed if any members survive, even if they are pinned or fleeing (note this means that a unit which has fled off the board before the end of the game counts as surviving).

Setup - As per Spearhead (BGB page 93).
Note that the area within 12" of the table centre counts as no-mans-land as well as the 'spare' table quarters.
Game length - standard (5-7 turns).

Note that even if you table your opponent they may still claim battle points if they have prevented you from achieving all objectives - its not an automatic 20-0!!

Well, first two missions up. another one to come next week. Any questions please let me know. See you soon C_C
