Many of the factions within the 40k universe have multiple groups which make up that faction be it Craftworld, Cabal, Chapter, Sept, Hive Fleet, Clan, Warband etc.

So what is your favorite group from each faction (if you don't have one for a certain faction that's ok) and why?

Mine are.

Eldar: Saim Hann, I love that they are still wild and slightly Feral. They're probably the only good Eldar that can be called barbaric and barbarisim is what I like plus they have a great color scheme.

Space Marines: Space Wolves followed very closely by the White Scars. Again it's the whole tribal barbarian thing, the fact that they are super advanced savages who are willing to do things differantly is what I like best.

Imperial Guard: Vostroyan Firstborn, probably the coolest looking IG in my opinion. Their fluff is cool, their nicknames are cooler and what's not to love about space Cossacks.

Chaos Space Marines: This could either be the Iron Warriors or the Word Bearers. The Iron Warriors are good with machines and have that "don't take no BS from anyone" attitude while the Word Bearers look cool and have the twisted faith.

Tyranids: Probably Hive Fleet Jormungandr, 1 because it attacked the Imperium and 2 it's named after the creature from one of my favorite Norse legends.

Orks: Da Goffs, my first greenskin army was for Fantasy and the Goffs are the closest to that mindset then any of the other clans (except for the Snake Bites who are maybe just closer on a technology level).

Space Marines - white scars, lots of bikes. Otherwise dark angels for being goth.

Elder - white and green color scheme.

CSM - thousand sons for being spooky and egyptian. Plague marines are also cool for being guerilla. Word bearers for demons.

Chaos - Tzentch, for being full of gak.

Eldar - Ulthwe, probably a doomed fate, but still they fight, and daemons at that.

Space Marines - Blood Angels because they are brutal clsoe combatants, special units

CSM - Plague Marines, i just like the whole Nurgle theme

IG - anything sneaky

Eldar: Ulthwe. I like their color scheme and the whole seer-thing with them is pretty cool.

Space Marines: Death Company, gone but still there.

Chaos Space Marines: Thousand Sons, 'cuz I love the fact that there is no flesh within their non-psyker marines.

The Dark Angels - liked the fluff and to my mind the only old chapter that made sense on a futuristic battlefield. Mind you the robes are not but dark green combat armor at least seemed more practical than stepping onto a battlefield in blue, red, yellow or any other non-natural colored armor. It may be super armor but it seems practical not to waste good superhumans by asking for a lascannon to target you by going out there like a neon sign.

Agree on the night lords - like the mentality - The soul-sucking emporer is worthless but only a moron dedicates himself to a chaos god. Obviously we are the only sensible people in the universe and so others exist only because we don't waste the time on them... yet.

Space Marines:
Imperial Fists got the best colour sceme but overall I'd go with Blood Angels, with Dark Angels comming in second, I preffer my Marines to have a flaw/secret.

Orks:
Blood Axes, cause orks in blue and pink camoflage is awesome!

Eldar:
Ulthwé, nice colours and I like their fluff

Imperial Guard:
Death Korps of Krieg, pure ace models and nukes! Just what I want for my grimdark galaxy-wide army.

Chaos Space Marines:
Black Legion or possibly World Bearers

Tau:

SM: I like them all. I seriously cannot choose just one, which is why I don't have an SM army.

Eldar: Proud, sad Iyanden -- the very pinnacle of romance (as far as it's possible) in 40k.

CSM: Word Bearers are the scariest, nastiest, meanest bastards in all of 40k. That's saying a lot.

Tyranids: Behemoth, because of their epic invasion of (and epic defeat at) Ultramar

IG: DKoK for penance and grimdark; Tallarn are pretty cool

Tau: Farsight Enclave -- the Tau without Farsight's rebellion are superbland, IMO

I prefer the following:

Eldar: the Harlequin

Space Marines: Black Templars and their Templar Knight feel followed by the Crimson Fists.

Imperial Guard: Gaunts Ghosts strictly for the fluff Abnett created for them. Praetorian Guard for their colonial English look and Space 1889 feel

Chaos Space Marines: None, cowardly, traitorous scum that they are, I can never like any of them and frankly I think the whole idea of the Chaos "gods" and their "gifts" combined with the marines falling for them is ridiculous.

Orks: the Deathskulls and their looting of technology kind of appeals to me.

Tau, Tyranids and Necrons have no good units or background that appeals to me. For the later two it is like asking which is your favorite cockroach or screwdriver, and the former just seem like a rather bland group to me.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

Dark Space elfs:

Eldar:

ImperialGuard:

Inquisition:

Orks:

Space Marines:
- Raven Guard, Salamanders, Iron Hands ( coming back from nearly fatal losses ), Black Templars ( crusader theme ), Dark Angels ( could be the shooty marines),
Blood Angels ( not to turn into a beast needs selfcontrol ), this may be in order of most fav down to like them somehow.

not coincidentally I play all of those armies, but my BA are actually a successor chapter and wear mostly black armor. I've never changed due to having all of my models one theme already. I thought that if I did it again though I'd probably do Crimson Fists (at least for the color scheme)
